    Awesome . What gps apps do you use . And how long did it take to get to the end ? Thinking of making this trail my first one . I have a ram 2500 4x4 . Any other must haves before I head out on my first trail ?

    • @JeepAdventures
      @JeepAdventures  7 місяців тому +4

      First off, you can't go wrong with making this your first trail. But heads up the rangers close the gate if the trail gets wet. So I would call in first if close to rain.
      I use TrailsOffroad which is very updated for this trail. You can also use Gaia too, but it won't have the details TrailsOffroad has. There is a app too that makes it easy to follow the trails.
      It takes about 1 1/2 to 3 hours to get to the top for the average person that is just taking their time and enjoying the drive. But could be as quick as 30 minutes.
      As for must haves, find a friend to go with in another vehicle, it is best next to go alone and if they have any experience they can share and if for some random reason smoothing goes wrong, you have a means to get out. Other things you can do but are not required on this trail are having the ability to air down and back up, this will improve your ride. Last, take camping chairs and blankets and just hang out at the top and enjoy the scenery. If you can plan it, stay for sunset as it is legendary.

    Thanks for the video Joshua. This was a trip down memory lane for me. Used to go up there when I lived in Orange. Definitely some beautiful nature & cool views in those parts. I also used to love driving past O'Neill park on the way to Holy Jim. What a bummer to lose that place. It was a fun way to scratch the off-road itch so close to home. Then grab some grub at Trabuco Oaks Steakhouse.
    P.S. Not sure what's become of him over the years but always loved stopping by Grumpy's to grab some awesome jerky when visiting Silverado.

    It’s really cool, I did it in my 4runner but it isn’t my favorite trail because I have a fear of heights and even though I didn’t get close to the edge, the fear of rolling off the cliff was so real that entire time. I prefer some of the mountains and landscape out in Mojave. Also less crowded out there. Passing other trucks coming the other way on this trail scared me as well. At one point me and a dodge ram had to fold our mirrors in so we could pass eachother. It was that close to

    • @JeepAdventures

      A 2wd can likely do this trail as long as conditions are good (Which is normal). I wouldn't recommend going to the look out at the end, or at least driving down to it. It is a short walk so just park at the top and walk down. But FYI the rangers close the gates for weather and it seems like we have a lot of weather in the forecast. So make sure you call them before going up there.

    • @JeepAdventures

      This trail has been busy for the last 10 years. Even before that, it was busy. In the 90s, the trail was busy. But there is one thing you are not thinking about, trails people don't know about get closed quickly and easily, but busy trails have a lot of people pushing back, which usually results in them staying open. This is something I have learned over the years. Even though I, too, like a quiet trail, we all are better off having them popular as countless trails have been closed due to near zero pushback due to being a best-kept secret to someone. And don't be fooled; these trails in Cleveland National Forest are no exception. There used to be a lot more trails up there from when I started wheeling in this area. In the last 20 years, almost all of them have been closed. And i have zero doubt that they would close these few trails right now if they though they could get away with it. So, I now teach vs complain. I see something happening, and I try to educate. I make these videos to teach and hope to get more people involved who would want to step up and fight the fight to keep our lands open. We all were young and dumb at one point; the people who knew taught us. Now, it is our time to do the teaching.
