In the US? Pretty sure it was the Scion FR-S + Subaru BRZ until Scion folded and they rebranded it as the Toyota GT86. Wouldn't be surprised if it was always the Toyota GT86 in other markets, though.

@@wwecallofduty123 that’s how it started, Toyota didn’t want to make a new engine for a new platform (money reasons I assume because they did this with the Supra with bmw in the future) So they called Subaru, told them they need an engine and said they can use their chasis too and they agreed. Then the BRZ, FRS, and GT86 was born but we didn’t get the GT86 in America until 2015 I think when Toyota killed scion off as a brand. They moved most of the scion line up to Toyota anyway. There's a slight modification to the creation of the GR86... the Scion FR-S and Subaru BR-Z along with the Toyota 86 were all released at the same time. The 86 was only in Asia if I remember correctly, and the Scion was the affordable option to Subaru being the slightly better version. They were a co-op car, no different than the 1988-1997 DSM's (Eagle Talon, Plymouth Laser, Mitsubishi Eclipse). It was a shared platform vehicle with identical powertrains, and the only differences were really in small tuning changes or interior differences. So to clarify the history of this vehicle, the GR-86 is the same platform as the FR-S and BR-Z, but Scion failed and since Toyota owned Scion, they just absorbed the FR-S into the 86 and ramped up 86 production to send it worldwide instead of Asian domestic markets. I just wanted to correct the history of this because I love co-op manufacturer builds and their stories are interesting. I don't know if they still make a BR-Z but that's also why the boxer4 under the hood is a boxer4, Subaru clearly still co-ops this build with Toyota.

Since it’s a Subaru boxer, these are great for mods. But it will take a lot of supporting mods before you can actually make good power. The oil system, cooling system, and heads(not the gaskets) will fail first under serious modifications. Good brands to fix these would probably be IAG, killer b, and CSF
