Few notes: - The first comparison cutscene is not the same as the one from the beginning of the game. Elma retells the story and it gains a few extra filters. In DE they went more sepia while the OG had a gray tone. - A few OG cutscenes were actually shorter than the footage from DE. I had to awkwardly loop it, so if there is a framerate difference it's just from the clips and does not represent the final version. This is supposed to be a graphics comparison. - Shoutouts to @Helsionium for making this possible. I had to fill the gaps with some of his video captures. Also don't forget that UA-cam compression is a thing.
@@Polmo1997 Full RGB only works if your TV supports it. Otherwise you just get black and white crunch. So the higher color saturation has nothing to do with it, it's just a difference in colorization is all.
That fresh coat of HD paint makes everything POP. Just the fact that they broke the level cap is enough to change all the old strategies of 2015 and with the sprinkles of new content spread over the basic story ( not to mention the actual new endgame zone ) it's a new game ready for new players to explore and veterans to play it for the 1st time again 🎮💙
I really wonder how the new content will look compared to the og content. Like with everything being designed based on the Switch, I can only imagine that the new content will look amazing.
Wow it really does look worlds different in some scenes. I can spot details that are just a blur on the WiiU and then there is the depth of colour. I can wait to play this again.
Reminds me of that thing where trees actually move in Xenoblade 1, but don't in DE despite there being a cutscene shot very early on that is supposed to highlight the movement.
Between the improvements in graphical fidelity and the greater environmental detail, i really can't wait! These next 2 months need to fly by! Thanks for creating this comparison!
What I’m seeing from this is better texture detail, less aliasing on edges, better lighting and a more consistent frame rate. Given how stunning XCX was to begin with, we’re in for something special here
The Switch version looks amazing. A lot more detail. The Wii U version even though was already amazing looks like it has a filter on it. I’m still not sold on Elma’s new look though as she looks like a completely different character. I think they changed it way too much and you see that from the side by side comparisons.
Am I the only one to actually prefer Elma's old face? Idk why but I feel like it had more personnality. Oh well, I guess I know now how some XC1 fans felt with XCDE. I'm stoked to play this anyway, thanks for the vid!
Definitly going the Xenoblade DE Route of increasing the color saturation and going for brighter shades. I am still not entirely sure how to feel about it. On the one hand, I still actually prefer the "more dull" colors, but the color direction of X in execution really wasn't as solid as it was in Xenoblade 1, it lacks proper contrast between elements and kinda blends into a grey mush sometimes. Otherwise, the change is less subjective and more of an objective jump. Model diffrences are generally for the better, image quality is noticably improved, textures (that actually were adjusted, some seem to be the same) look generally better, etc.
Black and white levels are better. Pre-rendered cutscene are at a higher resolution and/or uses Anti-aliasing. Facial expressions seem to look better. No cel shading, looks like an upgrade of what they were doing with the OG.
The Wii U version really looking irrelevant now that the Definitive Switch Version is gonna be released in matter of months we finally broke free from Wii U prison!
This is not a good comparison. The Wii U footage should be black-level adjusted. Wii U outputs black (0,0,0) as a dark grey (16,16,16). Wii U captured footage has to have its black levels lifted to 16.
Minor X Spoilers: Subtle detail with Elma's eyes, they changed the actual style of her iris (the colored part of the eye). In X there are multiple options for iris styles (maybe we'll get an Ouroboros iris in DE). In the original her iris has those black lines, which is one of the options in the character creator. But in DE she has what I used to call the, "Overdrive / Mim," eyes. That was a separate option that was a available in the character creator, so they intentionally changed her iris style from one type of iris to a different one. The one she has in DE always reminded me of overdrive and mims, and her having that style as opposed to a normal iris style is fitting.
i appreciate that they made the models look less realistic, but it still gives me a kinda uncanny feel. wish it looked more like the other xenoblades or pokemon or zelda
@mattgezockt2596 I mean, I'm not even talking about the model redesigns but the shaders/colours. The Wii U game looks more organic and stylized than the Switch one on matters like, the grass, clouds, hair, clothes, etc. All xenoblade games has an anime style so thats not the reason anyway
@@nowi2250 I can't agree with you on colours. Everything looks so de-saturated and washed out on the wiiU that nothing pops. The scene where NLA is being attacked looks extremely muddy and messy in comparison that it's hard to tell what's going on.

GJ.
The switch version makes the wii u game look like it's in monochrome
The saturation was really bad in the Wii U version. Glad we are getting a more colorful version.
The power of Switch Full-RGB vs the Wii U limited-RGB

It still looked phenomenal on Wii U though. What an amazing game X is.
Noctilum is going to look absolutely GORGEOUS with the vastly improved saturated colors and contrast of Definitive Edition! 🤩

The original was already HD, being 720p...
It was already in HD, but the colors are looking more saturated now
It does definitely run above 720p now, outside of colors, it looks significantly clearer, may be 1080p
Thank you for posting this, was surprised no one had put this together yet!
The only thing I miss is Elma’s hair moving with the breeze
All the hair clipping that came with it though, not good
It's like that spiderman meme where he takes of his glasses and it's 2 different pictures
haha yeah

thanks, great job🤩
I dunno if I'm going crazy but it looks like they overhauled the mouth movements on some of the characters for the DE version.
They build a system for XB3 that automatically synchs mouth movement with the language so it is definitely possible
@@SuperSavajin It wasn't perfect but was definitely better than what they did with Xenoblade 2.
It's incredible how they took an already gorgeous game and somehow made it leagues better. Very nice!
We have colors now! :D
Brighter colors, deeper blacks, everything is sharper. Can't wait!
Can't wait for this, definitely looking better on the switch!
The announcement trailer for DE , Elma had no physics with her hair so I’m glad they fixed that, also what is the song used in this video it’s fire
This is Noctilum day. You are gonna hear it a lot and it's a banger indeed.
She had physics hair, but on the back part. They decreased it on the front to reduce hair clipping, which og X suffered a lot. They did a wise choice.
Reminds me of that thing where trees actually move in Xenoblade 1, but don't in DE despite there being a cutscene shot very early on that is supposed to highlight the movement.
Huh Elma’s new hair style is now ‘Hime cut’ didnt notice that in the new render

They havent got any good 3D model for Elma since the original, XC2 is fairly worst than this new one but XCXDE isnt better than the original
Same, I feel like she's a different character.
There’s a 7:32 gameplay video on Perfectly Nintendo if you’d be willing to compare a longer video
For me, the pop-in of NPCs in Xenoblade Chronicles X on the Wii U was the issue. I hope that has been fixed.
Going to end up being one of the best looking Switch games. Nice to see Monolith end this Nintendo generation off with a bang!

How much do you think Elma's lifting cost? She looks 10 years younger.

There's a very good reason for that.

I actually prefer tho look of the characters on the Wii U.
Elma's hair looks horrible.
Ok but why does the Wii U version looks better 😅
Probably because you dont like the anime design. It don5t look better, its just a different style (its a "you"-problem)
