I gotta say that was one of the most informative, entertaining, and well edited videos I've seen in quite sometime. I ordered a solo and a gimbal yesterday on amazon for around 3 hundred. I have a hero 4 just sitting around that I never use since upgrading to the hero 5 cameras. For that cost I just had to get one while I wait for my mavic lol. Subscribed and looking forward to future vids!

Very nicely done! I missed all of the early Solo drama (got my first one last month, bought a second yesterday at that awesome Best Buy price) but am convinced that this quad is my best choice. Would love to see an aftermarket video regarding props, motors, etc. Keep up the great work!

Well. I have two Solo drones and one gimbal that I bought from B&H for $50 (when they had them, no more) and am anxious to update them. Bought batteries recently for $40 on Amazon.
Now about this video, well done with lots of great info. Just watched a video on a crash avoidance system that can be added. Buying this outstanding quad at these crazy prices allows us to buy the updates and stay married! Thanks, big thumbs up.

Outstanding video thank you! I also picked up the SOLO from the BB fire sale. But I wasn't that lucky that mine was free of issues. I had to open up the controller and clean out a bunch of excess glue that was carelessly applied, interfering with the connection to an antenna. And I also had to do the cardboard mod to get any satellites at all! But I enjoyed every minute of it because I'm laid out form shoulder surgery and needed something to do! Now I've got one of the meanest drones on the planet, 4 batteries, gimbal, and extra props too for only $350(ish)! This is a serious drone monster and I can't wait to do more mods. I'd also really like to see how big a camera I can loft with this baby :).

Peter, love your work. An exception video....... your very best yet! We in Australia have unfortunately never had any specials thrown our way. We've here had to pay almost 50% more than even your normal retail price! I'm now on my second solo after having sunk my first ... own fault! Excellent Video and I feel much better about my Best Buy purchase I made 30 minutes ago...before I found out my phone wasn't compatible with their update app. I'm not sure what to do yet, but I did enjoy your video.
I had the same problem. i ended up buying a refurbished LG G Pad F off ebay for about $65. Nice 8" tablet. Works great. Also found a sun shield for it on Amazon.
The ongoing work is being done on the Android system, there is no further development on the IOS platform from 3DR.
Rob Hodges ha your phone didn't work and my GoPro 3 wouldn't work! Now I'm debating about upgrading GoPro!

Great video Peter. Sadly, I have gone to the dark (or should I say the white) side. The GoPro is still a sticking point for me as a photographer. And, I must say, the out of box capability of my new aircraft is outstanding. No more mods and all that stuff. Just a phenomenal aircraft with a great camera for around what I paid for Solo originally. Oh, I did run to Best Buy and pick up a Solo off the bargain bin for the sake of nostalgia. But I have not opened it yet.

Great video, I bought 2 Solo kits at best buy for $299. When the battery's were 34.99 i bought 6 and also bought a spare gimbals for 39.99. Also bought 2 backpacks for $49.99 each, what a bargain. I guess im lucky, i never had any GPS problems, they lock in as fast as my Phantom. The gimbal does take some care to get it right but other than that the Solo is great.

Preston McCrary, Agree on that. I've been on that bandwagon for awhile. The 3DR purists say you don't need anything more that the GoPro.
We own 4 Solos and have great times using them. The reason I picked the Solo over the P3 (DJI state of the art at the time) was the possibility to upgrade the camera. Well we all know how that turmed out so I gave up and bought P4P to add to the fleet. It is a fine drone but I do miss how the Solo flies. For me though, the camera is king and Solo is stuck in the muck of the GP4 forever at this point, so I had to move on.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 but it's so d_mn small I could hardly see anything with it so I 'had' to purchase a Samsung 9.7" Tablet :-) of course I then had to modify the holder slightly so it would hold it but all is well. I'm happy with my SOLO and setup and my only frustration is with the short flight time (12 min max is all I'm getting) because by the time I figure out what I'm trying to do I have to land LOL. Tough getting Old and Slow ;-)
I had a Nexus 7 2013 model and it worked perfectly. I agree on the flight times, poor!
Nicely Done. I am one of the very early solo owners. I remember driving some distance away from my home to a best buy in another state to purchase the then elusive GoPro gimbal for 399 dollars. No regrets. In fact, I can truthfully say that my year old solo is a better bird then my new Typhoon H. The solo app is also better then the Typhoon H app and I can definitely say that My one year old solo and my new 299 dollars solo I recently bought from Best Buys is far better then that thing GoPro recently launched.

I don't care what anyone says, this is now a great bird at double the 299 price.

Yes, your old 3DR app will work, moving forward Solex will continue to add feature while 3DR will not. if you are satisfied with what you have now, it will still work.

What are your flight times running the standard bracket vs. the gimbal? I get 15min with standard bracket going to 10% battery and 12min to maybe close to 13min with gimbal going to 10% also?. I start my timer the time I hit the fly button and when it takes off from the ground.. I'm also just hovering and not taking video or pics with it, just basically using it for fpv, and no major aggressive flying.
They are wrong. I use my Solo for work and could use the better quality image. I think the Solo is better than that other brand except for the camera. I am 3DR all the way including my extra Solo, X8 and Iris, but I think the camera is the one thing missing. I see the Sony QX can be added, but I can't seem to source the gimbal and how to control it. Any way enough of my rant, you do a great job with your videos. Keep up the good work.
hello , I'm a solo fan. my first solo is operating really good. I have meany questions but the main one is can you use the same down loaded app. for 2 solo's I have the old app it's fine for all my needs at this time. great video.
When you say old app are you talking about the official app from 3DR?
How about a vid covering the Pixhawk2.1 ... there is zip/nada/nuttin out there on youtube right now. What does it add. I just ordered a solo and upfront the GPS upgrade. I'm not so worried about range yet but I'm wondering about the new Pixhawk controller relative to the stock flight control.
while I'm flying my solo 3dr it says fly manual on the display and crashes on its own and while it crashes it doesnt let me control it what so ever..... how do you fix that?
I have a problem with solo . I have a hero 4 silver. The first time I used it it's work ok now my hero 4 doesn't work in the 3rd solo even it's already connected to the gimbal. The camera doesn't show in the app so I can't see what's going on on the solo while in the air . Hope someone help me
