I thought that we should avoid stretching the hamstring if you have retrocalcaneal bursitis, since it puts more pressure on the bursa that is already inflamed. Others have stated this and it makes total sense.
The pain in my heel and plantar diminished so much after just one day of rolling my foot on a ball! I’m doing it everyday now for about a week now and I have almost no pain! Thanks for the great info 😊 Barefoot training on elliptical machines can be a great way to strengthen your feet and improve balance. Not only does this type of training increase the efficiency of exercise, it also strengthens the muscles responsible for protecting the joints in the foot. Going barefoot on elliptical machines also helps reduce your risk of injury as you are not wearing shoes that may have poor fit, cushioning or support. Additionally, going barefoot on elliptical machines increases proprioception, which is our body’s ability to sense the amount of force placed upon our feet, and helps us adjust appropriately to different surfaces. #elliptical #cardio #fitness #treadmill #workout #gym #weights #fitfam #gymlife #personaltrainer #fitlife #fitnessaddict #cycling #fitnessmotivation #gymtime #ellipticalworkout #nopainnogain #fit #weighttraining #getstrong #homegym #getoutside #girlswholift #weightloss #getfit #sweat #running #weightlossjourney #exercise

Watching this video was great.. Exactly where my pain is. All the money in co pays, physical therapy, getting treated for tendinitis, cortisone shots and the pain keeps coming back. Now I'm feeling the same pain on my other foot ever since I got custom inserts made. Also I stand all day for work. I know that does not help.. I got my bursitis from my sim racing brake pedal. A recurring issue because of my posterior bone spur. Itself brought on by hockey skates and working standing for 2 decades.
Where I work, driving a bus, often times I'm jumping out and assisting passengers to board the bus. I wear the best boots I can get, usually Redwings or Rockies during cold weather conditions. Now my heel hurts so bad that I can't put on my boots. I've bought sketchers slip resistant working shoes, and just recently bought sketchers crocs. This pain has made me begin looking for other work. Walking is so painful. I joined a health club, trying to burn away 30 lbs or more this summer, and praying that the heel pain will go away.
I was just diagnosed with this and a small bone spur after getting X-rays by a podiatrist, but I have very little pain. What happens is that after I run or play soccer I get a dime sized swollen area on the back of my right heel. It looks like a blister but it isn’t red or sore, and within 24 hours it goes away. Hopefully I can find a way to stop it reoccurring after every run or soccer game.

I jumped out a window today cos I couldn't find my keys, only a 3 ft drop, never a problem before and now all of a sudden it's killing. Maybe it was brewing for a while with running etc. Going by your videos it seems to be bursitis. Seem to have so many injuries that become chronic. Possible bursitis in both shoulders. And osgood schlatter symdrome on knee. Hopefully not all spurs. Thanks so much for your videos
Just a quick tangent. Upon learning how much different fascia tissue is from ligament tissue, I’m doubling down on my earlier hypothesis what foot doctors have it backward. The plantar fasciitis should not be supported with arch support insoles. The fascia has blood supply and is extremely dynamic/adjustable. For one, if you continually press with arch support against the plantar fascia (on barefoot walking nothing presses against the fascia as it’s underneath the arch), you are cutting off its blood supply, by pressing it against the bones.
Over the past year I made the transition to barefoot shoes. Walking in barefoot shoes I have had no problems. However, at age 50, I decided to sign up for a softball tournament and wore barefoot shoes. During practice I was fine, but yesterday we played 4 games in about 5 1/2 hours. All that running did a number on my left heal. My right heal is a bit tender, but my left foot is what I lead of with, that and I haven’t trained myself to run without heal striking.

I played basketball up until age 25, from 25 to 53 I played hockey only. I pickked up basketball again and was having a difficult time afterwards with achilles tenderness and pulled calf muscles. over time I was getting stronger and began to play more aggressive like the old days. Now I have this sore heal where the achilles attaches to the heal bone and it hurts when I walk and it's not getting better over the last few months. I hate to get a spur!

My pain started over the pandemic. I was working from home on laptop and spent many many hours in a bed. My heels hurt when I put pressure like when I lay down...
Many months dealing with this. Worked with physical therapist but only improved some. Now my right foot is doing the same after doing calf strength exercise. Will try this.
My pain started the day after I wore training shoes. From September to April, I constantly wore boots , the weather got warmer so I got my training shoes out the cupboard. Been hurting for a week now , .
I was diagnosed with retrocalcaneal bursitis about a week ago after having pain on and off for the last two + months. I am a huge walker (4 to 5 miles) 5 to 6 times a week and I also will throw in intervals. I've been doing this for almost 3 years now but the pain started in May. It was when I would do the intervals that I would get this intense pain afterward on occasion. I am going to try your exercises and look for a better shoe in addition to doing other exercises. Thanks!

Years of body building and heavy calf exercises. I electroshock treatment few hears ago on both heels. Very painful but worked for a while. Now my right heel is inflamed to the point i am limping
I have acute inflammation on my right ankle for many years, and strangely the doctors couldn’t find any findings (after 3 biopsy, ultrasound, MRI) very tiring process & no solution/answers on what cause this problem in the first place.
We find a common scenario is that there is not a disease process, but chronic pain, heavy activity, with a slightly tighter achilles compensating for tight and tired joints at the end of a long work shift. Very common to see this when someone comes for a 2nd or 3rd opinion after extensive testing not really showing anything, because there is nothing to really show.
@@DrTomBiernacki the conditions is basically bilateral but more towards the right side. It covered the whole ankle from inner left to outer right and developing a lump in the central area of the heel (beneath Achilles Tendon) so I can’t do much with my proper work & exercise. I had surgery on my left ankle 10 years ago after I broke it. I have arthritis in that ankle but in the last 6 months I’ve developed bursitis in my right foot and now plantar fasciitis has set in also in that right ankle. It sucks
I have the same story. Had a big fracture on my left ankle 13 years ago. Never recovered full flexion amplitude on that ankle. Now I have occasional pain on my right knee, and my right plantar fascia and heel are painful. Ultrasound has revealed a retrocalcaneal bursitis. Hoping a custom insert will work.
You can also try to refrain from too much long walking . Even though some people has to work 2 jobs long hours walking. This tip seems to help. Tape 4 pieces of electric tape on both heels . The electric tape blocks friction stops inflammation. Costs about $10.00 A roll average cost. A roll lasts 6 months. Then after applying the tape put on 3 pairs socks each foot. And try to avoid high heel shoes because the Truth is high heels type shoes - is not the natural foot formation. Foot was created to be level To the ground flat . For proper balance. This electric tape and 3 pairs of socks everyday. Heel the problem 👍 (Never Forget This Tip)
I'm curious about if the way you sleep impacts your bursa as well. I've had bursitis twice now and each time it has happened after sleeping. I was fine the night before. It only happens to me on the foot I sleep with fully extended toes pointed to the bottom of the bed with my shins and top of foot and toes on the mattress. Could this stretched position negatively impact my achilles tendon and give me bursitis?

Bursitis started one day after getting a standing table. Starting pain after sitting for a while when getting up is my new „normal“ now. Getting insoles now. Hope they will get the job done 😵💫
I wear crocs, i dont even wear shoes often. its so insanely painful after you put weight on it after sleeping or resting. just ordered an iwalk,3.0 i got too muchwork to do.
I got mine from running barefooted. I started off by running off and on for a couple of miles every few days for a few weeks with shoes. Then, one day I decided to run a couple of Miles without shoes after listening to the book Born to Run (not blaming the book). It was absolutely wonderful at first. I was able to run further distances without slowing down to catch my breath and I simply enjoyed it more. My ankle started hurting after about the first mile or so, but I kept trying to run because I thought it was just regular soreness. I ran and walked the last mile home and haven't been able to run since without paying. It's been about 4 weeks now I believe. The pain is gone the majority of the time now when I'm just walking, but if I try to run it starts hurting a little bit again. So, I am trying to make myself wait a little bit longer before trying to run again.
Is it healed now? People who are used to wearing shoes and other footwear should never try running without proper conditioning. Their muscles and tendons will be extremely weak to take these loads.
So Ive had this pain on both legs for 7 years. Both basketball and soccer. It get tremendously painful when I play sports so I don't last on court or field. I have no visible swelling. If I touch it hurts a lot at the back on both legs Funny thing is I had a surgery just before covid on knee to shave a growth spur. So I hope that's not what going on on my heel. Both legs. Thanks for the info. I'll tell the padiatrist here in Vancouver. It's been so long with this pain. More only when I excercise

@@cavidqasmov5601 no the same thing. Prp didn't work. Pain came back the next time. It was just painfull. So I stopped playing or that kind of cardio and it's better because I'm not playing. It rubs on the tendon everyone we do something athletic. Let me know how this goes

The pain is from muscle cramping/tightness pulling hard on the tendon. Most people and doctors miss this and will send spiraling In debt or further damage from incorrectly making you take meds, stretching that further injuring your bursa. Massage the muscles and see what nutrients your are deficient. Exercise more after healing. Use a boot cast until your damaged bursa is healed. Then exercise slowly to regain muscle health.
My feet feel fine, feel fine during a 4-mile hike, feel good during cool down/stretching. Then an hour later I have pain at the bottom of my heel. Any suggestions?
Haglund is not a problem. I mean that visible tumor or bone is not a problem. The problem is that bursitis around Achilles tendon. It just presses and causes pain. Try to start day with icing (10-15 minutes) and rolling (massaging up and down)the calf. Do it for 2-3 weeks 4-5 times per day. After that try to raise foot effort so maybe swimming, biking, slow running and week by week it should be much better. Good luck
Thanks for the video..im a Yogi so I always thought stretching more would help. It really didn't. Im a big guy 6'3. 290. Hi there -- I have been dealing with this bursitis issue myself since about July, and hopeful to get back into soccer, but the issue is very slow to resolve itself. I saw your post here and was curious. Would you mind commenting if you have seen improvement from acupuncture already?
We find a heel lift and insole to have the highest impact as a first line treatment, sometimes this can rapidly improve the pressure, but always make sure the diagnosis is correct and you are seeing a doctor.
Stretching can be tough to do if in a lot of pain for biomechanical overuse conditions. We usually try to calm down the inflammation then start stretching!
The problem is not so much the bursa but the cause of the bursitis for example spur/pressure/ankle joint equinus causing the bursitis. The key is really getting evaluated and discussing with your surgeon if surgery is to be undertaken. We hope you can find a solution!
Awesome video - thank you. You’ve pinpointed my pain exactly that I’m fairly certain I got from golfing (actually over-golfing)! I’ll make an appointment with a podiatrist for sure.

Thank you thank you so very much for this video explanation, it was totally on point! I am most certain that this would be the diagnosis for my situation.. caused by 🚶walking, I noticed that after I changed the 4 mile course that I walk which has always been on a pretty level grade to one with long inclines (not too radical), I noticed the pain slightly, gradually, but then, within the last week it had become severe after my last walk.. I could not put any pressure on the heel at all but some ibuprofen and rest seems to have helped a bit! If I pressed on that area it was extremely painful!! Thank you so very much for the advice.
I fell down outside my house going steps last year, hurt my left leg as I hurt my heel and developed these symptoms and the pain is still there and actually even developed on my right heel too going up too !

Barefoot training on elliptical machines can be a great way to strengthen your feet and improve balance.

I've got heel bone spurs in the back of the heel bones and both my heels. I am doing my heel stretches and exercises before I go to bed daily.
I will be looking for a new foot doctor and bring this to their attention. Thanks

Have you looked into Achilles tendonitis? Eccentric calf raises helps
I would look into Insertional Achilles Tendonitis/Tendonosis. As someone else said, isometric stretches (weighted calve) lifts will help a lot.
Edit: Woops, I left this comment before making it too far into the video. Didn't realize this was mentioned.
I got my bursitis from my sim racing brake pedal. A recurring issue because of my posterior bone spur. Itself brought on by hockey skates and working standing for 2 decades.
I'm looking into altering my driving position.
I am on my feet all day. I just got Dansko shoes. When I wore them before no feet problem. They lasted about 2 years. So worth the money.

Thanks a lot this video was very helpful I got this pain due to playing badminton
I have really wondered about barefoot shoes. Did you find they helped?

I played basketball up until age 25, from 25 to 53 I played hockey only. I pickked up basketball again and was having a difficult time afterwards with achilles tenderness and pulled calf muscles. over time I was getting stronger and began to play more aggressive like the old days. Now I have this sore heal where the achilles attaches to the heal bone and it hurts when I walk and it's not getting better over the last few months. I hate to get a spur!

Doesn't calf stretching create more pressure on the bursa like you show in the foot positions at the beginning of the video?
Yeah this was a strange inclusion. You definitely dont want to stretch the calf.

Just got diagnosed today for this, got the cortisone shot. (Oops.) I have been in constant pain for 15 months, was going to physical therapy for months doing exercises for tendonitis. If only I had “Dr. Googled” myself sooner! Everything you said in this video is in line with what my doctor said today. The beginning of the video using your own foot to explain what is going on was brilliant. Thank you!

@@virtualgigi1220 I got the second one today. The first shot took care of the initial pain but then I felt different pains within the heel when walking. Today’s shot was on the medial side and I am confident that the pain level will improve. I am already able to walk farther and longer. Yay!

Thank you for the explanation, I only get pain in my right heel after doing sports. It goes away after 3 days, maybe I'll use ice now
Hello I suffer the same. Has this changed for you? Any advice?
@@Mahmooudfathi hi, I'm not doing sports now because gyms are closed due to covid 19, so no pain. If u have the same problem as me, try not to do sports for some times and see what happens.
I advise u to use ice pack if it hurts too much after doing your sports
My pain is about an inch and a half from the sole in the middle of the heel. It hurts when I put my foot down radiating up the back of heel up the leg for about 8 “. Problems started when I tore my plantar plate slightly and it has never healed. I was prescribed very expensive orthotics but they were so painful I couldn’t wear them at all. I wear off the shelf arch supports which help. It has affected my gait and made my knee on that side click and and move painfully when going up stairs
What do you think about Barefoot shoes? Some therapist suggest those for planters.
Barefoot shoes are not for everyone. However, people who can use them are very happy. The biggest change is that while walking, your body weight is moved from heel to toes, so your walking pattern and technique change significantly.

The most informative, to the point and interesting video I've come across on UA-cam. Thank you.
I'm looking for this ..I think I got pain for already a year still pain now and my knees yes the calf pain too
I tried that women's pink orthotic from Amazon you recommend. The arch was too high and not in the right place on my foot. Returned.
Thanks!

I have pain for over 40 year, because I had multiple surgeries. Does this really going to help with pain and swelling. Since you said getting shots is not going to help or could cost more injuries. Please advise
I guess you have a point right there, thank you for your reply sir.

I’m confused because I have no idea what I did?? I lift because I’m a bodybuilder, but I haven’t done cardio at all recently so I don’t know exactly what could have caused this.. but I do squats, deadlifts, etc and those were my only recent workouts since my heel began with bad pains.. do you think it’s possible through just lifting?

i have pain in both spots next to the ankle and in the low part of the heel. However, I am no athelete. I'm 67, obese, and mostly inactive. Can this condition resolve itself with rest? I think it is getting better. It is very painful. It's not helping that I'm injured before I strart my execise and diet program.
Costs about $10.00
A roll average cost.
A roll lasts 6 months.
Then after applying the tape put on 3 pairs socks each foot.
And try to avoid high heel shoes because the Truth is high heels type shoes - is not the natural foot formation. Foot was created to be level
To the ground flat . For proper balance.
This electric tape and 3 pairs of socks everyday.
Heel the problem 👍
(Never Forget This Tip)
Thank you, I'll try to use them.
Did this tape really help you? any video to show how to use them properly. And also did you train your feet?
Don't all the stretches you suggested at the end cause pressure on the bursa
Yeah, he also confused the difference between insertional and non-insertional. This is misinformation at best.
Yes. But once healed the stretches will help keep it from coming back. Only my opinion on his advise.
I went to my doctor and he said heel bursitis and sent me home so... xrays and ultrasounds you say? Sounds fun.
I have pain in the bottom of my heal....was told it's achilles tendonitis...is that true? I have a hx of plantar fasciitis, thanks.
I think so, it’s been happening to me and I’ve been thinking about it the same way you are.
Wow! So helpful. I am convinced I should at least see a podiatrist at least once now.

Any progress?
Is it healed now?
People who are used to wearing shoes and other footwear should never try running without proper conditioning.
Their muscles and tendons will be extremely weak to take these loads.
Thank you for being honest about bare foot running, which I'm convinced does more harm than good.
So Ive had this pain on both legs for 7 years. Both basketball and soccer. It get tremendously painful when I play sports so I don't last on court or field. I have no visible swelling. If I touch it hurts a lot at the back on both legs
Funny thing is I had a surgery just before covid on knee to shave a growth spur. So I hope that's not what going on on my heel. Both legs.
Thanks for the info. I'll tell the padiatrist here in Vancouver. It's been so long with this pain. More only when I excercise
How you feel now? I suffer from same thing for 2 years. My doctor said that you must go physiotherapy firstly if it doesn't work i will injection on your leg( maybe PRP). I got 10 sessions of physiotherapy but it was useless for me my pain reduced 20% but in general i feel pain on my leg.
@@cavidqasmov5601 no the same thing. Prp didn't work. Pain came back the next time. It was just painfull. So I stopped playing or that kind of cardio and it's better because I'm not playing. Only issue is my cardio is horrible now.
So you might want to check and see if it's a heel spur that's pushing on the tendon. Because we may both have the same problem. It rubs on the tendon everyone we do something athletic. Let me know how this goes
How come my issue is exactly like your video but it keeps going from left back heel to right n back again! They just keep moving from left to right right to left since June 2023

I just started running for 7 days and I got this.its really disappointing.don't know what to do
The pain is from muscle cramping/tightness pulling hard on the tendon.
Any suggestions?
this is fantastic, i've been suffering from this for a good couple of months. great to know what's happening. Doctors are useless

Hoka Bondis are THE BEST for calcaneal bursitis!
I have pain in my heel bone. how can I get the relief from pain ?
Normally I have this pain after walking or standing for a while.
I’ve had heel bursitis for a year now and I’ve had days of rest to stay off my feet but the pain and swelling still hasn’t gone down on it’s own
And I got my bursitis from over stretching my ankle and bending it towards my face too far
@@DrTomBiernacki if I go with the surgery route to remove the bursia would a new bursia grow and hold long would it take to regenerate?
The problem is not so much the bursa but the cause of the bursitis for example spur/pressure/ankle joint equinus causing the bursitis. The key is really getting evaluated and discussing with your surgeon if surgery is to be undertaken. We hope you can find a solution!
Why you think I haven't been on program because I've been in so much pain but yeah it's going to take awhile to get back on site😂😂😂😂😂
