Getting kicked out of a band can feel alot like getting dumped by a GF you really like. Maybe even worse. Ive been in both situations in the far past. I think Dave's never gotten over getting tossed, and after almost 40 years, he probably never will.
The thing that’d kill me the most is them getting some other guy to come in and play MY RIFFS. That would really piss me off, definitely to the point of making my own band and making it harder and faster. Mission accomplished Dave.

@@bakerboat4572 They didn't do things like that in the 1980's and he was like 19. You realize music stuff got more involved in the 1990's this way. That is why the Beastie Boys were able to sample so much for Licensed To Ill and Paul's Botique. They used all they could squeeze into it without law and admitted they could never get away with that today in an interview like 20 years ago. Led Zep stole a lot too and was able to get away with it because it wasn't lawyered up back then.

@@cult_horror_junkie8144 I dislike almost everything Megadeth made after Countdown, the exception is Dystopia. I know people say this about every new album the big 4 release, but Dystopia really does feel like a classic Megadeth album. I think I honestly like it more than Killing and So Far though I like Mechanix more as an individual track. Anyways I wrote off their post early 90s material a decade ago after going through it all so I never would of noticed how good it was if someone didn't tell me.
You just know James thought about hiring Dave after the Download '04 festival.
It's a shame when business destroys friendships
Business didn't destroy friendships here, Dave allegedly was a heavy drinker and was violent. The other band members fired him from the band. Mustaine never got over it. Dave can't just be happy with Megadeth, he has to lay in bed at night and cry about what could have been with Metallica. He has said on camera that he would give back Megadeth and all of his success to go back to Metallica. Dave has got to get over it.

According to Chris Poland or Jeff Young (I can't remember) there literally is a chat group of former Megadeth members that keep that keep in touch to talk about their grievances with Dave.
Not crediting bass players and drummers is insane. Some drum and bass parts are more part of the song than the structure/riff/lyrics. REM did it the best. Split everything equally and kept all original members their entire career.
Well until Bill Berry retired. Then went with session guys.
Agreed! However if the drummer and bass players dont write their own parts then they should not get credit ouside of their performance! What i think is even more crazy is that so many lead guitarists dont get a writing Credit even if the solo made the song. Ride the lightning or Tornado of souls are perfect examples of songs people LOVE because of the solos yet kirk or Marty did not get any credits. Same goes for countless Maiden song etc
Damm straight man
Most bands that survive with the same lineup usually have a democratic split of songwriting. Those who don't are usually the Megadeth's of the world with revolving membership

Dave is smart, as his career shows.
He knows that this ancient conflict fuels his career. Everytime he says Metallica, fans will listen, and he'll get some new fans. I actually discovered Megadeth because of Metallica.

They did already, its called the first 4 metallica records lol. They started sucking when they ran out of the music they stole from Dave. Dave already said they stole his music after they kicked him out. James and Lars are bums. WAY overrated.
@@jeremyjames1659 James Hetfield wrote those songs too. And Dave Mustaine only had major influence on Kill em all and already less on Ride the Lighting. He wrote some of it but not all of it. Master of Puppets regarded as their greatest album ever had nothing to do with Dave. But Dave gives credit to James for the songs off Kill em all too.
It's already been done, before Megadeth Mustaine was the guitarist for Metallica, Mustaine also wrote "Jump in the fire" and a couple other songs on the "Kill Em All" album
They HAVE made songs together!! LOL. I'm 40 years old and been a fan since I was in 5th grade. I love how many newbie fans there are because it makes them even more legendary. Megadeth too. Dave was in the worst spot anyone in life could be by getting fired from MetallicA and instead he counters with a band many actually liked better than MetallicA. I love BOTH. I think his parting ways was a blessing because we get both now
Dave staying in Metallica would have held them both back. Dave would have continued making Metallica's existence a constant stream of battles and ruined opportunities. He also had way more potential than being 'just' lead guitarist, he was made to be a frontman. Getting both bands was definitely the best result for them, and the fans.

Dave Mustiane sobered up and released one of the greatest metal albums of all time....Rust in Peace.
He was high as a kite during that time. Bands put out crappy records when they first get clean.
@@scottashe984 He was out of rehab. I have a book about how the album all came together.
Could you imagine what Rust in Peace would have been like if it would have been a Metallica album? Dawn Patrol would be basically a drum solo because Lars would turn down the bass. And Holy Wars or Polaris with Lars behind the kit would be an absolute tragedy.
Bro drugs inspire people to make great music look at Hendrix and Pink Floyd
@@cult_horror_junkie8144 Drug experiences are probably as useful as any other traumatic experience - you'll take the hit song that comes from that place but you'd rather have the hit song and a perfect life. But as far as really getting things done, obviously drugs are for losers who don't get things done, and who haven't gotten over their problems. Layne Staley said he didn't write songs on heroin. And he wasn't worth a damn after 1995. He could still write cool songs with Mad Season but he wasn't much of a vital rock star or a conventionally good rock vocalist anymore. Crediting drugs as having 'given us good music' is like some guy thanking fate for having him be molested as a child, or else he wouldn't have picked up a bass that one day when he was sad. It may be true in some roundabout, indirect way, but it's immature and just stupid.
Another headline that will have Hetfield shaking his head.
His entire life has been spent living in 1981-1983. It's sad.
Megadeth could play Metallica's songs, but Metallica can not play Megadeth's songs, they are another level.
If only "harder to play" meant "better song"
As much as I love JH and think he's an absolute God, he can be an uptight SOAB at times 😆 just tell Lars to swallow his pride and get over not being credited. He's already credited on everything else anyway, a couple of songs on a reissue of an EP really doesn't matter enough to ruin such a great thing that the fans would really enjoy. I hope they can work it out in the future.
You could say the same about Dave Mustaine though, why does he care if its all about thr music and getting together for old times why make it about clout chasing before they've even wrote a single note of music
James don't need any collab, thats the thing, any other of the current members of Metallica were part of that band at least as twice as Dave, they are his REAL friends, his REAL band mates, why he have to do something that he clearly don't care, or even want, just to satisfy a guy that talk shit about his actual band? They are both great on what they do, Dave really need to get over this, is not healthy for him
James literally just wanted to talk through his reasoning, and it was Dave shutting everything down and walking off.
Lars and James don't need to get over anything - it's Dave who demands to do this. If it was about "old times", he wouldn't be making a fuss about money. Why should James be forced to do something just because Dave wants it? Metallica have better things to do. The Big 4 already happened - Mustaine is just broke, tired of opening for FFDP and wants a big audience to promote his generic new album to.
@@mdnblues I serially doubt Mustaine is broke when he wrote almost all of Kill Em All and Ride The Lightning. Those albums have sold millions and millions of copies, not to mention the money from his own band.

It's actually quite sad how obsessed Dave is with his former Metallica band mates. He can't stop mentioning them in interviews. I honestly feel like he never truly got over being kicked out of Metallica.
ya think??????
I think it has more to do with the fact that every interviewer since 1983 has brought up Metallica when talking to Mustaine. Feel free to listen to the Joe Rogan podcast with Mustaine that came out a few months ago. It was obvious that Dave didn't refuse to talk about them, but he clearly didn't want Metallica questions to dominate the interview. Rogan kept asking about it though. That's what makes headlines. Those guys talked for over 3 hours about martial arts, family, Dave's new album, Ice T, Nashville, etc. But the big highlights in all the JRE clips were the 2 things Dave didn't really want to talk about too much or at all, which were his occult experiments and his Metallica days.
Well, it IS the main reason for Megadeth's existence.
@@tuberaddict2000 No doubt there. But, at this point, Megadeth stands in it's own 2 legs. I honestly think they're better than slayer and anthrax as far as the big 4 goes.

I think James is embarrassed by the way Dave was treated in the filming of Some Kind of Monster. He was off at rehab and I feel it was planned that way. Lars was completely disconnected from Dave and Dave's feelings. I think James wants to act like Dave was never in Metallica. Again, these are my personal opinions.
As far as Dave, he was in the band for about a year, isn't on any studio albums and co wrote half a dozen songs forty years ago, but Dave acts like it was yesterday
@@MrOctober44 You're leaving some things out. Those half a dozen songs are on Metallica's first 3 major label albums, and one could argue that if nobody bought the first three albums....there wouldn't be a fourth, or fifth....making Dave at least partially responsible for Metallica's success. One could also argue Metallica MIGHT be even bigger today if Dave wasn't fired, and what Dave was fired for back then....is the SAME THING troubling James TODAY.
Or it's just Dave's personality. He's been problematic with many, many people fir decades including his former bandmates. Notice how nothing is ever Dave's fault and always everyone else's?

James seemed to shoot the James/Dave collaboration when this subject last came up around the time of the Big 4 and 30th anniversary shows.
Whatever personal issues there were, Dave was too talented to stay in the band with James.
James will never leave Lars, its actually rather sad. Its very telling who actually is in control of metallica. It would be cool to see james's stuff without Lars influence, but I don't think that work actually exists, not in a form that actually matters.
i dont think james trusts anyone else to guide his music.
From all accounts involved, it is James who actually controls Metallica. Lars often interjects because he is short and has a big mouth, but Papa James leads that show.
Interesting perspective. To call it "sad" that two LONGTIME collaborators and bandmates since their late teens want to continue making music with each other. Just because Dave can't get along with anyone long term in Megadeth (aside from Ellefson, who's also gone) doesn't mean other bands have to be the same. James genuinely loves Lars like a brother. That's not sad, that's admirable.
@@BatFan1 You can call it what you want. But was Lars always good for metallica? No. Look at what he did to the bass on 'In Justice for all." Im saying Dave represents a part of metallica we never got too much of, and would be more valuable than James making another album with Lars. Also I want to add, James and Dave were making something together without Lars, but James still wanted Lars accredited. Why, as far as we know, this wasnt a megadeth and metallica collaboration but 2 individuals coming together to make music. James's overloyalty to Lars and that this collaboration will never see the light of day now, is what makes it sad. That James couldn't do something without Lars is Sad. supposedly dave wrote jump in the fire and mechanix before he was in metallica, so it would be weird if lars got credit for it
Sure maybe but when multiple others disagree and say no he helped on this one and that one. I didn’t say all neither did the rest of Metallica. But Dave is saying no not at all wonder how much he really remembers. I’m a megadeth fan too by the way. He has been known to not be sober.
I know what that feels like and it’s 😑
In another world James Dave and Cliff are still shredding together
Its true he never got over Metallica. But virtually in every interview he is also asked Metallica questions.
Imagine an album with James, Dave and Jason Newsted each writes 2 songs. That would blow my mind. Of course they need a drummer.
They could get Jimmy DeGrasso if he's available. He did say he was still open to working with Dave
Why Jason though, Metallica has no reason to drop Rob Trujillo and actually he's alot more of an advanced bassist.Jason was always said to play it way to safe in the studio and just copy guitar parts and rely to much on root note playing, Jason was great live though, maybe as a backing vocals would be cool
@@nemesis8626 Doesn't Rob have a side project outside of Metallica
@@oswaldovalladares4001 he sometimes play here and there, even whit Kirk as a guitar player, but nothing that we can call a ''side project'', this band achieve most that every band could even dream about, they clearly are most open about some of the members could do side gigs out of the band, I'm sure that if James or Lars don't do it is simply because they don't want to
Nah, we don't need ginger. Dave Lombardo on drums tho, would be awesome.
