This is the best exhaust video I've ever watched. So easy to compare and not dig through handfuls of videos trying to find sound clips over all their talking. Thank you for making it.
I was considering the racing beat as well. Reputable name, lightweight, reasonably priced and not crazy loud...but then I realized im a cheap a-hole lol
Back in the early 1970's, I was told by a racing mechanic that the best sounding and best performing exhaust for my college boy budget Jaguar sedan was cheap glasspack mufflers. It sounded amazing. I put cheap glasspacks on most of my fun cars ever since. 1957 Thunderbird, 1960 Buick LeSabre, 1966 Jaguar 4.2 XKE, 1970 Fiat 850 sedan, even a '67 Caddy convertible. My current 1991 Miata has a $45 Cherry Bomb muffler with 2 motorcycle baffles stuffed in the tailpipe to tune the sound down a bit. It sounds like a little race car and my wife doesn't complain about it. I always check the spark plugs after a few weeks after installing the exhaust, and they burn a nice chocolate powder tan. It's the sound that makes it cool, and the low price. I just couldn't see spending the big bucks on any exhaust system that doesn't sound any better than a cheap glasspack . I've always thought these expensive systems were a scam.
I got the Yonaka and the sound is imho perfect, - a nice growl and baritone without being too obnoxiously loud. The bad, - my first one lasted about five years and then something inside the muffler got loose and began rattling. Maybe that's a normal lifespan for a AF muffler. The second one fitted very close to the differential and would vibrate against it. I pulled it away using some non stretch tent guy outline.
thanks Frank! Glad you enjoyed the video. Consider subscribing if you haven't already for more videos including the project track car Miata build I currently am building.
I have a straight pipe kinda now that sounds alright with my built motor which is why im gonna go for the more refined out the back fully isr exhaust i like the deep note makes it really sound like a good car rather than a high pitched squealer like the others
@@HazardGarage I look forward to receiving it. Cost was $449 when I ordered it. Went on sale for $339, so I canceled and reordered at the cheaper price.
I like the sound of the Magnaflow cat-back (not listed here), Manzo, and what I purchased & installed on my 1990 NA: the $1000 🙃 Apexi N1 Evolution cat-back (also not listed here). ISR (insert ISIS music here) sounds pretty good too. I like a deep growl, with the burble, and pleasant rasp (someone help me use a better word). Not the type of rasp like when I had an exhaust leak from my catalytic converter 🤢 None of them sounded bad, though, besides the ebay special. 😬😵💫🤮 Idk how something that is shaped so similarly to the other exhaust systems can sound so horrid.🤯 Materials, internal design? Lol
Yes! would be much nicer if some people got on it a bit more. Unfortunately a lot of these exhaust hang lower than stock and on a Miata thats already so low, it can be tricky. OEM designed looking ones are your best bet for fitment probably. I have the Manzo personally, and it fits well but is just ever so slightly lower than stock so I lose some ground clearance and can't use the OEM rear chassis under brace. =(
Updated the links! It looks like the "Manzo" branded one does not exist anymore but follow the links and you will see similar ones being sold. Honestly they are most likely the same and just rebranded. Hope this helps!
it should as your transmission still switches gears just automatically instead of you doing it, if anything you will hear the switch through gears even better with the exhaust because i hear mine so clearly in my auto
The manzo exhaust is made for the model years that only have 1 O2 Sensor. For models with a 2nd rear O2 sensor (its for monitoring emissions only), you will need to add a bung and maybe cut off a hanger. I have a 97 and had to add an 02 sensor bung and chop off an extra hanger on the midpipe. You can easily modify/add a bung without having to weld using these: O2 Sensor Clamp: amzn.to/3qDF7f0
@@HazardGarage same. I was hoping to use this video for shopping advice, but it seems like every one of these I’m interested in are for NA only…and I’ve got a vvt NB
Hey Brian the Manzo design might be rebranded. Even mine is not an actual Manzo (as it is discontinued from them) but looking at photos and videos it seems to be the same exhaust.
you know what, I might have bunk'd up and put in the wrong photo. Original video does state a borla catback so its most likely the one youre seeing on their website. Sorry about that!
Just bought an NA Miata with an isr installed and it's just too loud for my daily commute especially since I work nights and live in a suburb. Any suggestions for something quieter without going back to OEM?
yeah the ISR is definitely a loud one. You can try welding on another muffler or replacing the resonator that came with it. Remember a muffler is what makes an exhaust quiet. A resonator is really just to help with drone (although it does quiet an exhaust a bit, another muffler will have the greatest impact on sound).
exhausts like the yonaka or megan linked above would work. basically that type of oval design will give you something not too loud over stock but still a good tone.
Those exhausts aren't too readily available and special orders tend to put them out of the reach of many Miata owners but the JDM exhausts look like amazing quality. Thanks for letting me know!
let these people know that permatex should be used if you have exhaust leaks. the exhausts don’t sound as they should, because they’re not put on correctly smhhh

Even worse than straight pipe somehow 🤷♂️

@Don’sReaperMotives ISR and Manzo are the deeper louder ones. sliiiight burble.
Do you have a rough estimate or measurement of decibels for the RB? Do you think it exceeds 96db?
I got the yonaka with isr test pipe and raceland header on my 94 na8. Sounds amazing but once in a while it touches the heat shield for the muffler.
Sounds like a great balanced set up! Maybe a little convincing with a hammer on that heat shield is in order?
try stiffer hangers for the exhaust and then bend the heat shield in place a bit more so that it has more clearence

I like Fujitsubo, staight pipe, and then Manzo. the rest i don't really care for.
I see you like it loud and throaty. (nothing sexual).
If you want it loud and throaty I suggest cobalt muffler with CX racing headers and a cat delete

Hi Cole! Yup these are cat-back exhausts. From the catalytic converter all the way back to the muffler.

The manzo exhaust you put in the link will it fit for a 95 na Miata as well ?
The manzo exhaust is made for the model years that only have 1 O2 Sensor. For models with a 2nd rear O2 sensor (its for monitoring emissions only), you will need to add a bung and maybe cut off a hanger.
