The Puffshroom love largely comes from just how spammable it is and how strong it is for challenge runs like low seed slot or not picking up natural sun drops. It's 0 cost, decent damage in story mode and can even stall on day levels. It definitely doesn't stand up as well for Speedruns but good to see the little guy pull up into A tier and still hold those frontlines like the trooper it is.

I love how there an entire game’s worth of content and people just ignore like half of it and either speedrun or endless; but both are super fun in my opinion
15:03 I'd say Cabbagepult is slightly better than Peashooter, as it does the same damage per second plus counters zombies with shields and the snorkel zombie. I know that doesn't amount to much in the context of an Adventure mode speedrun, but when I play a second Aventure run or mini games, I always bring a cabbagepult whenever I would've otherwise picked a peashooter. Edit: I just realized Peashooter does have an advantage: Being able to work with Tourchwood. But like you said, setting that up in the first place is expensive, so I don't always use Tourchwood.
I’d say that speedrunners would probably be picking repeater instead of peashooter if they’re doing torchwood as well. So I agree, cabbage pult is better than peashooter.
It still suprises me that doomshroom is as powerful as it is. regardless of what you are doing in PVZ1 (with sunproducers) its still insanely powerful. theres not a way that a functional kill all zombies on screen is not broken. even competive vs mode has to ban it to make plants not auto win the mid game and furhter

As a casual player that has no idea what a 50% rule is, it’s really interesting to see just how different casual strats and speedrun strats are. Like for example, tallnuts are practically revered in casual play and for good reason; they block a lot of annoying zombies (poles and pogos), have tons of health, and are pretty cheap. If you’re doing survival endless you basically need tallnuts or you’re gonna get overrun In a speedrun tho those qualities aren’t nearly as valuable since you’re mostly going all-in on offense to kill everything as quickly as possible rather than learning longevity strats, so it ends up just not being used
Now, Tall-Nut in Survival: Endless is really interesting because there are many strats without it(I remember mainly the 2009 GTM builds, that stands for Gloom, Twin and Melon I think or 8-cobs or 10-cobs or Gatling Peas+Torchwood stuff), but strats with it seem to survive forever, instead of say, a few thousand flags. I especially love the variety of depth in these strats, from simple dolphin zombie shutdown to intentional ladder strats that deal with, well, everything except Gargs, where they spam instants. GTM is still my main after all the years, ever since I fell in love with the fact that it does not stall(well it does slow them) anything but Gargs. What's so interesting is the Football-Zomboni thing. In a GTM build, there's a Fume-Shroom in the inner land lane that provides just enough DPS for Footballers to fall and they bite the Fume, like once. If you Pumpkin the Fume, however, Zomboni reaches it. So, you take out the Pumpkin for Zomboni, and re-plant for Football. In a wave where they both appear, Cob them. GTM falls to Jack-in-the-box zombies, funnily enough, due to Glooms being planted in columns 7 to 9 in the pool. I think most Tall-Nut strats prevent such a thing, yeah?
You actually don't need Tallnut in endless, and I feel like that's because Cob Cannon, Gloom and Winter Melon break the game, and not to mention stalling waves with Ice Shroom and having Doom Shroom as backup with Cherry Bomb. I haven't even mentioned Pumpkin + Imitater Pumpkin yet lmao
Okay, now the utilities. I'd put Sunflower in S cause it's way more crucial than you might think, so much so that it's even used at Night sometimes Sunshroom in B cause it's a situational improvement over Sunflower but can't even assert its position as the only sun producer at Night Lilypad in B cause more planting space and it lets you defend the water lanes like normal lanes, at a cost Flowerpot in A cause it's very likely to save a good chunk of time, but can't really carry anything on its own Gravebuster in B cause it does tend to speed up final waves and streamline your dps setup for a bit of timesave Plantern in C cause while it does prove its worth even in speedruns, it's only used in part of one stage and there are acceptable alternatives even there Coffeebean in A cause Gloomshroom in particular is just better on Roof and NG+ Day than it is in Night Double sunflower I think I'd put in D. Just takes too long to pay for itself Imitator high up in A tier. Pairs extremely well with Sunflower at the start, and in Survivals you can then move on to using two of something else. Only benched if you don't have the extra seed slot, which is like... 100% maybe?
one thing that i notice about puff-shrooms that no many talk about it on the internet is that it have a higher attack speed. what i mean is that a puff-shroom would shoot more projectiles than a regular pee shooter. the difference is not noticeable at first but once you compare them you'll notice that.
Of course, lists vary depending on the kind of player you are. As a restriction challenge player myself, puff-shroom is absolutely the best plant in the game. It's pretty much the sole reason why you can beat the game without sun producers. It's free damage and free stall, and that little extra bit it provides can spiral out of control super hard. Stalling waves for free while you set up sun producers (in challenges other than no producers, obviously) without having to compromise your sun ramping is often crucial. It's also a completely brainless final seed-slot if you have the room for it (because sometimes you don't even have enough plants that are legal for the challenge you're doing, assuming puff-shroom is allowed). Its usage on roof is somewhat limited, however.
I ranked Gold Magnet and Marigold in F tier because they are actually detrimental if you pick them. They don't do anything for the speedrun, and don't do anything for any future speedruns. Taking them is as useful as taking nothing. Coffee bean should be utility yes. Umbrella Leaf is in D tier because it is used in one level, and it is optional to use. This was based on how useful plants are to the speedrun. That's why there are plants ranked that aren't usually ranked.
I love how Gloom-shroom is just the best plant for almost everyone, speedrunners, casual players, survival (endless) players, and everything in between
Actually with enough grinding for the money you can buy gasoline pee he unlocked Torchwood and then in burn down the entirety of the roof just add Torchwood on the E6 column and Gatling P on the 5th or 4th column and then you're good to go
If it was just normal PVZ It would be a completely different story. Winter melon will be a easy S tier, cattail would be A or S, chomper would be probably D or C tier, melon would be a pretty high A tier, and the iceberg would probably be B tier. All of those are pretty significant changes and even though it’s my opinion I’m sure a lot of people would agree.
@@Sasquash19 I see what you mean. I would not prefer using it in adventure mode but I play last stand endless a lot and he is super good in that mode. It’s just there are way better and more affordable insta kill plants like potato mine, cherry bomb, jalapeño, squash, and doom shroom.
I mean it’s good in adventure mode too. As long as you’re able to support the sun cost of the chomper, you can pretty easily beat one flag, two flag levels with chomper and one other plant.
I have to question what the PVZ devs were thinking when they made Doom-shroom cost only 50 sun more than Hypno-shroom. Going from killing 1 or 2 zombies to the entire screen
cabbage and repeater both do 40 damage per shot but repeater shoots at twice the speed repeater shoots 2 peas that do 20 damage every 1.5 seconds cabbage shoots 1 cabbage that does 40 damage every 3 seconds i believe these are the damage values?

I never used Plantern in my night pool, i just spammed shrooms except Scaredy Shrooom. Never even used Split Pea. I used Gloom Shroom against Miners instead
this is a really good vide, but it would have been cool to hear you talk about plants weaknesses and why they didn't get higher on the list more, specifically for the higher tier plants like B and A tier
This is literally my same list but chomper is higher than scaredy shroom considering HOW versatile chomper is, like how you say it, sun doesn't really matter because everyone places so many sunflowers (not a Speedrunner btw but i do this so much) chomper could be used at any level, does massive damage, extremely FAST recharge, reusable (as long as you stall zombies) and overall such A GOOD plant, its a little better (significantly better) than scaredy considering the fear thing is still a weakness while chomper doesn't have any of them unless its chew time, but you could easily just stall zombies with other plants and if you cant stall them then it serves to be a staller as well for a few seconds which makes its primary use even better because chomper is generally used for quick insta kills of high durability zombies and high damaging zombies I do not remember how many times ive spammed chomper in every level lmao Edit: and before somebody says that scaredys fear thing could be evaded easy by planting it at the furthest away from the field, you're placing it in a spot potentially more good for even better plants to be placed on and theres a significant amount of zombies that counter scaredy aswell
On a Casual Playthrough, Puff-Shroom is one of the best Plants, but on a Speedrun when you WANT to kill Zombies fast from range? Yeah...Not really THAT viable...I mean the most you can do is Chip Damage, but yeah you wanna use more than JUST the tiny mushroom bois for Night and Fog (still an AMAZING plant, just not one of the god tiers for Speedruns specifically)
I have been playing the pvz games my whole life and never really watched speedruning videos so i wanted to know how hard of a run is it (for whatever category you want)
None of the runs are actually that hard when you are first starting out with running. If you can just complete a run, then that works. The hard part comes with the time. Any% is usually 4hrs 30min for brand new runners, even sometimes upwards of 5hrs. There are shorter categories, like Normal Survivals which is only about an hour for new players. The runs aren't that difficult at the start, it just depends on how much time you want to spend on a run.
12:33 that’s kinda just Starfruit's use too but at least Split Pea can also shoot forward unlike Starfruit Edit: 18:04 …after that one round of Survival Night Hard, let’s just say it made me more protective when it came to people hating on her or just taking shit, meaning I wouldn’t agree with certain opinions (Hey, at least be glad it’s not Plantern of all things that I’m protective of, if anything, fuck Plantern!)
tbh the icey plants deserve better, they do not slow down the spawning of zombies but the zombies themselves, I don't think having the zombies themselves be faster (or not-slower) will help at all.
The strats we use are simply faster. Not to say that these plants are ALWAYS slow, but the alternatives are faster, like gloom shrooms, or repeaters. Both are faster alternatives to snow pea or winter melon for example. Ice shroom can freeze zombies off screen too, so that one actually can make things slower
Good video and good list though I wish you went a little more in depth with your reasoning for some plants placements like you did with the cactus. Also isn’t scaredy shroom a little high?
15:24 If you're using Cabaggepult to have a cheaper attack plant to use in the time it takes you to set up repeaters and tourchwoods, you might as well just bring Peashooter. That way you can start gaining damage output from the moment you plant the tourchwoods instead of getting nothing until you plant thenñm both.
Except you can only place the Peashooters where you'd be placing the Repeaters, as far as Roof levels go. Cabbage-Pults can be placed behind that area.

tall nut deserves better.😔 honestly on night level 2 and mostly on roof levels i used him. hes a pretty solid nothing bad but a little expensive. he deserves a b tier.
@@KhajaSodhuwell it's just wall nut but twice as expensive and in speedrunning you plant sunflowers like no tomorrow so at best like VERY low B or preferably high C

You severely underestimated golden magnet, and I have proof. You see, using gold magnet gives you more time doing other stuff then getting coins. You need coins to buy the shop plants. Even in all survival runs, who doesn’t like money? We all like money.
minor issue 1: gm is post campaign and most of the speedruns only complete campaign minor issue 2: speedrunners are fast enough to collect coins and do basically everything else minor issue 3: just grind in zen garden or money glitch if you really need money

What's next?? Ranking Zombies based by how annoying they are????? Good vid! (Iirc, Cabbage does deal the same as Repeater...)
cabbage and repeater both do 40 damage per shot but repeater shoots at twice the speed
repeater shoots 2 peas that do 20 damage every 1.5 seconds
cabbage shoots 1 cabbage that does 40 damage every 3 seconds
i believe these are the damage values?
Yeah, I believe so. I would still put it on C tier cuz of cooldown...
Actually... That video is now up
This is my marching band friends older brother and it’s kind of weird the few times I have seen him in public because I have watched his videos longer than I have actually known him Sasquatch was on drum line btw
Maybe I could do that. It would certainly clear up a lot of the rankings XD
This is literally my same list but chomper is higher than scaredy shroom considering HOW versatile chomper is, like how you say it, sun doesn't really matter because everyone places so many sunflowers (not a Speedrunner btw but i do this so much) chomper could be used at any level, does massive damage, extremely FAST recharge, reusable (as long as you stall zombies) and overall such A GOOD plant, its a little better (significantly better) than scaredy considering the fear thing is still a weakness while chomper doesn't have any of them unless its chew time, but you could easily just stall zombies with other plants and if you cant stall them then it serves to be a staller as well for a few seconds which makes its primary use even better because chomper is generally used for quick insta kills of high durability zombies and high damaging zombies
I do not remember how many times ive spammed chomper in every level lmao
Edit: and before somebody says that scaredys fear thing could be evaded easy by planting it at the furthest away from the field, you're placing it in a spot potentially more good for even better plants to be placed on and theres a significant amount of zombies that counter scaredy aswell
11:36 AND CACTUS IS STRAIGHT GARBAGE!!!!!
Bro is speaking facts
Doom Shroom has always been my best buddy in the game.
Gloom is a staple in roof speedruns, that alone shoukd also move coffee bean in A
On a Casual Playthrough, Puff-Shroom is one of the best Plants, but on a Speedrun when you WANT to kill Zombies fast from range? Yeah...Not really THAT viable...I mean the most you can do is Chip Damage, but yeah you wanna use more than JUST the tiny mushroom bois for Night and Fog (still an AMAZING plant, just not one of the god tiers for Speedruns specifically)
Fun fact:golden magnet is the only plant in pvz 1 that isn't used in pvz2 along with coffee bean, freeze shroom and doom shroom
Onot? Do you mean only or not the only?
As a garlic user on almost every level that I can in the game I'm offended. But I understand it's from a speed run perspective.
boys sasquash just uploaded
I like how using Gloom Shroom counts as "crazy fast times" then you check and the wr is like, 3+ hours
Realistically wasn’t pumpkin the first introduction to the vines because you can plant on him
Thank you for saying scaredy sroom is underrated
I always use cob cannon in endless and i love it
I have been playing the pvz games my whole life and never really watched speedruning videos so i wanted to know how hard of a run is it (for whatever category you want)
Speedrunning pvz. Never would've thought to speedrun it. Looking forward to seeing what's what
12:33 that’s kinda just Starfruit's use too but at least Split Pea can also shoot forward unlike Starfruit
Edit: 18:04 …after that one round of Survival Night Hard, let’s just say it made me more protective when it came to people hating on her or just taking shit, meaning I wouldn’t agree with certain opinions
(Hey, at least be glad it’s not Plantern of all things that I’m protective of, if anything, fuck Plantern!)
At the explosion I got a HUNDAY ad
dont kill me but chompers my favorite, he's cool
I know this is a speedrun tier-list, but you putting plants like ice shroom and cat-tail still makes my blood boil a little
tbh the icey plants deserve better, they do not slow down the spawning of zombies but the zombies themselves, I don't think having the zombies themselves be faster (or not-slower) will help at all.
Bro forgot it was a speedrun tier list at the end
I knew that Fume-Shroom is the best plant in Plants VS Zombies
wintermelon does same damage as normal melon, almanaac lies to you
Yeah, but the slowdown allows it to attack more, making the overall damage output larger than regular Melon-pult.
Good video and good list though I wish you went a little more in depth with your reasoning for some plants placements like you did with the cactus. Also isn’t scaredy shroom a little high?
Scaredy shroom isn’t high for a speedrunning list no. We use scaredy a LOT during speedruns
@@Sasquash19 I think that coffee bean should not be in the same tier as scaredy shroom. In my opinion coffee bean should be S tier
I think coffee bean should be on utility as it just is an enabler
21:51 If this wasn’t a speed running tierlist wintermelon should be very high A tier of S tier
Technically sunshroom is a choice and peashooter is requiredcuz of the first stages
4:33 dude i almost tapped on the coin 😭
15:14 Not many people know this, but cabbage-pults deals slightly more damage than peashooters.
They deal double damage as a peashooter, but they half the speed. It’s the same damage per second as peashooter
In my opinion, i think coffee bean and twin sunflower needs to be utility
Great video but squash should be a little higher
15:24 If you're using Cabaggepult to have a cheaper attack plant to use in the time it takes you to set up repeaters and tourchwoods, you might as well just bring Peashooter. That way you can start gaining damage output from the moment you plant the tourchwoods instead of getting nothing until you plant thenñm both.
Except you can only place the Peashooters where you'd be placing the Repeaters, as far as Roof levels go. Cabbage-Pults can be placed behind that area.
21:55 says the plant that could kill a buckethead without help
you should do a pvz reseeded tierlist
6:27 I was about to type a long essay
Plantern isn’t necessarily required, I did all of fog my first time without plantern
Me who is a pvz and always play All version ( in android bc IM poor af)
I enjoy my game but sometimes it's just get boring bcz it was to easy so sometime i play survival like ice only and smth and most of my fav plant is Rated low and that make me sad but is for speedrunner so IM fine bcz IM enjoying but sometimes i get bored bcz how easy those are and i deleted them but later on re download it and play it until the end again.
I’m not much of a speed runner but I do have good strats for survival
I think that iceo is op in survival infinity cuz it prevent zombies to spawn in the water on big wawes
7:37 i agree that doom shroom is a nuke
I always starfruit because it takes the job of splitpea
Casually it's probably the best
Technically, peashooters are required to beat the game
Uh, neat vid but why is ur subs 696?
I beat the fog levels without using planterns or blover, torchwood too!
Now that's blind nights
Why don't you just use a Torchwood for the Snow Pea so it doesn't slow down zombies
True
Makes even more sense for speedrunning since you need to spam alot of sun producers
Why would you pick snow pea over repeater? Why would you pick a normal pea over the equivalent of a Gatling pea with splash damage
The levelled up spikeweed can resist 9 smahes from grangtuar
11:36 got me laughing😂😂😂😂
I think plantern could've been ranked alongside other plants
Gloom-shroom is so good
Everyone may have different opinions on what the S tier plant may be but we can all agree that Cactus is doodoo shit 😭
Marigold and Gold-Magnet should be on Utility tier.
tall nut deserves better.😔
honestly on night level 2
and mostly on roof levels i used him.
hes a pretty solid nothing bad but a little expensive.
he deserves a b tier.
Walls stall the game
Its a speed running tier list
I think you can put two and two together and know why Tall but is D tier
@@KhajaSodhuwell it's just wall nut but twice as expensive and in speedrunning you plant sunflowers like no tomorrow so at best like VERY low B or preferably high C
@@FiberoeatingfiberHow much fiber'os do you have Mr fiber'os
I guess Tall nuts could be used if a wall nut is on cooldown, but wall nut's probably won't be off cooldown much and even if a wall nuts is on cooldown you could still use jalapeño instead which I think is probably better than tall nuts
@@KhajaSodhu ye tru and imitator exists for a reason anyway
Also I have 2
I use cattail for my survival endless strategy
GET RID OF THESE AUTOMATICALLY GENERATED CHAPTERS PLEASE
Lmfao, I’ll try
NO
6:38 ur making a stair
Someone that know about "bottom and top of the XY Tier" AND doesn't fill the S Tier eith 80% of the entries?!
Niiice
Should of speedruned the tier list
You severely underestimated golden magnet, and I have proof. You see, using gold magnet gives you more time doing other stuff then getting coins. You need coins to buy the shop plants. Even in all survival runs, who doesn’t like money? We all like money.
minor issue 1: gm is post campaign and most of the speedruns only complete campaign
minor issue 2: speedrunners are fast enough to collect coins and do basically everything else
minor issue 3: just grind in zen garden or money glitch if you really need money
For all those people this is a joke gold magnet sucks
i like how a lot of the people are commenting in this video disagreeing with a tier list you made with your own opinion lmao
Well, everyone is gonna have an opinion. Even some other speedrunners disagreed with some of my picks. It just happens. I might make an updated speedrun tierlist when I get a better time.
