I bought the Sport S 2 door 2019 for 33k . My son bought the 4 door Rubicon 2018 for 39k . The only difference to me is the repair cost if you are a " rock crawler " the Rubicon costs more for it has more " Bells and Whistles". But if you are like me a sportsman/ outdoorsman and also use it as a daily driver the Sport S is way better all around.
The differences are enormous. Dana 44s, heavier transfer case, lockers, 4.10 gears, sway bar disconnect. Far better off road and far less likely to break.
@@dr.michaelbennett8597 I have a JKU Sport upgraded with 35 inch MT’s, 17 inch wheels, and a 3 1/2 inch Teraflex lift. We had Jeep Rubicons at work. My job requires frequent off roading. I took a Jeep once just to see if I could get stuck, and try out all the Rubicon features. I stayed in 4 high the whole time. I never got stuck ot high center. I never got to see how the axle lockers really worked. The standard 4x4 on a Jeep is all you really need. The added Rubicon features just make your jeep heavier. The Rubicon badging is more of a "Road Queen" marketing strategy. The towing package upgrades are definitely legit. Enjoy.
Agree to disagree, especially depending on what kind of off-roading you're looking at. Any Jeep can handle light trails, small rocks, shallow mud and gravel. Stock Spors or Saharas will absolutely get the job done in most cases like this on on muddy construction sites, especially once you manually disconnect the front swaybar. But if you plan on adding 35s or 37s and going rock crawling often, having front and rear lockers, electronic swapbar disconnects, 4.10 gears, Dana44s front and rear, and having a lower range transfer case all from the factory will help a *lot*. Does it help with marketing? Sure. But the package definitely has a purpose for those going to wheel it. -Zach
If you are looking to do a lift past 3inches some additional mods that will maintain the same preformance are driveshaft, gear axel and. Flash cal. Tire size doesn’t depend on the mods mentioned before.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the sport s trim does also have the option to color match the fenders? I recently rented a JL and I believe it was the sport S as it had paint matched fenders, along with paint matched hard top, and lots of leather in the interior. I’d say it was pretty loaded out, but it wasn’t a Sahara.
People used to buy Jeeps because they are cheap and cool and light and reliable but JL is not cheap anymore ! Actually in my country it’s more expensive than Nissan patrol or the mighty land cruiser ( lowest trim)
Actually, all Wrangler JL models excluding the Rubicon come with 3.45 gears. The Rubicon will be the only model with something different and they come with 4.10s. -Zach
Very good clear explanation of the differences. As was the JL vs JK video. Thank you very much. Every Jeep saleperson should be mandated to know this info. They do not.
Sad to say, but when I went to purchase my JL I knew a lot more about the Jeep I was looking at then the gentleman trying to sell it to me! It happens! -Zach
Pretty close to it! You can always purchase normal swaybar disconnects to match the Rubicons electronic system, and you can install a rear locker to help out off-road if you want! Both of those components together will have the performance super similar. -Zach
I believe the Overland is only an option overseas, not in the United States. I believe its similar to the Sahara though! And I wasn't made aware of any exclusive paint options either. -Zach
@@tbaker077 There hasn't been any factory tan paint options yet available from the factory, so it's possible what you saw was something custom. Either way in the US market there's not an overland edition you can order. Not quite sure what you saw unfortunately. -Zach
I was hoping for a look under. The Sahara is supposed to have improved cooling and a couple skid plates, where the Rubicon has full set of skid plates and...?This did help allot though.TY.
When it comes to the interior of the Sport S, infotainment display, is the infotainment display of the Sport can be an option at the Sport S even though it is a dual zone climate control not like sport that is just a single zone that the climate control of the Sport S can be also controlled at the infotainment display of the Sport S? Cause i'm very inloved at the nobs, and buttons at an infotainment display of a car. Thanks!
Idk if I'll be alone in this, but I want one for off-roading and I'll be taking it to starbucks when I study too. lol. No reason you can't do both. In fact, you might have to if you can't afford multiple vehicles (like me. lol)
@@silverfox__12 sorry to burst your bubble but the wrangler doesn't go down on price very much regardless if it has many miles or a few years old. even the ones with 100000 miles on them are still holding their value. go do a Google search and prove me right..the wife bought a new wrangler sport s and liked it so much I wanted to buy a used one but the price is almost the same not worth buying used. @@jamescampbell1743 I am having tons of fun with it, it is truly a do all vehicle and delivers impressive performance on the road. It is a fun and reliable 4x4, test drive it and you will automatically know if it's for you.
@@jamescampbell1743 the rubicon already has all the mods that I am thinking of adding to mine, so if you are going to go for the classic lift kit and swaybar disconectors maybe have a look at the rubicon and save yourself the hassle.

I still have my 2013 2 door black rubicon with 2.5 in lift and 35 in tires. I thought about upgrading to a JL for about 10 seconds. Cant do it. Still love my Jeep 😀
The 2023 pricing has gone full blown crazy town. A JL 2-Door Sport is now $33,000, and that's bare bones with manual trans and manual locks/windows, 0 options, basic soft top. If you add power doors/locks and automatic transmission, the price jumps to $40,000 !!!! It's insanely out of control. For reference, my 2016 JKU 4-Door Sport S with DUAL TOP group was only $32,000.
From Victoria BC. I have a 2017 JKU Willys. First Jeep ever for me, always wanted one and now Im loving it totally. I am sure if I had any of the other models I would say the same. Thanks for the updates and vids. Ciao
Ok so I’ve found that the rubicon doesn’t have a huge performance difference from a sport a lot of it is just comfort technology. So if you’re planning to build a Jeep the sort is the one to go with if you’re gonna remove the bumper, fenders and replace wheels anyway there’s no need to spend money on fancy versions of those
Pretty much! You can always put lockers and sway-bar quick disconnects on a Sport model and have the performance be pretty similar! Rubicons do come with Dana44 axles front and rear though along with 4.10 gears from the factory, for what its worth. -Zach
Something tells me with the new Wrangler I won't be able to replace the transmission in my drive way. My transmission has no software; just gears and bearings. But I do envy power locks. Not gonna lie.
Just got my wife a 2018 sahara yesterday. Seems nice so far but still need to get used to it coming from a charger but it’s hers so I figured if that’s what she wanted 🤷♂️
Always amusing with touches of dorky, I particularly enjoyed this one. While Miatas unquestionably provide a lot of fun for the buck, they don’t fit me well. I had one of the first ones and stopped needing to visit the chiropractor three months after selling it. Wanting to give myself something fun for a milestone birthday, I purchased a CPO Audi TT Roadster, which is a comfortable Miata with all the bells and whistles, but after months of considering various trucks, (shortlisting the Raptor and Gladiator), I spontaneously picked up a new Jeep Sport, and I’m surprised by how much I like it. While virtually everything lacks the bucolic Bauhaus interface of the TT, the Jeep’s appeal is in it’s simplicity and having the luxury of not feeling a need to keep it spotless. While fuel costs may be a concern for some shoppers, the savings from not having to repair the abrasions on the Audi’s 19” wheels (whenever parking too close to a curb to maximize it’s protection) is substantial. The Jeep just crushes it, and the curb squeals. While my buddy instantly took it boulder crawling, I’m unlikely to need the additional hardware of the Rubicon. For me, the Jeep is the fun little truck no one makes anymore. I have the two-door, and with its hard top and soft top, I can throw a bike in the back without a rack, and with the roof rack, I can have a platformed tent. It’s all great for camping and a once a month cigarette.
Great Movie, you should make one that compare Sport, Sport S, Sahara and Rubicon in value loss after lets say 1year, 3 years, 5 years and 100 000 Km. Is the Rubicon going to last better in value than the Sahara and sport?
I got a 07 wrangler unlimited 62k mileages. Upgraded oem parts to it. After over 10 years the sport model is basically the same as what I have. I figure Jeep would give you an upgrade after all these years
Nicer-built interior, back up cameras, push-button start, option for a 2.0L Turbo engine with *wayyyy* more horsepower and torque than the old 3.8L V6, better ride suspension from the factory... Should I keep going? 😇 You should take a new JL Sport for a test drive! While they're still reletively bare-bones, they're pretty damn nice! I have an 18' Sport and its absolutely nicer than my fathers 13' Sport. -Zach
You should check out and test drive both! Sahara models and extremely nice on the inside with their leather trim and seats. Sport S models can be just as nice, but won't have as many luxury options as standard equipment. -Zach
You should look into a Sport S Wrangler if you want to save a little bit of money but still want options like heated seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, power windows, and LED lights now that they're optional on lower trims! If you NEED paint matched fenders and nice leather seats though - the Sahara is the way to go if you have the budget! -Zach

Leo Carrillo I just got it a week ago and I love it!
If you are looking to do a lift past 3inches some additional mods that will maintain the same preformance are driveshaft, gear axel and. Flash cal. Tire size doesn’t depend on the mods mentioned before.
The 84:1 rock crawl ratio mentioned in the video is actually the ratio when choosing the manual transmission, the auto transmission is 77.2:1
Really? 😔
I’m going to get the Rubicon in Sting Gray!
Cicada what's ur country
~$80,000 AUD here in australia
C Bonsall-Pearson god dam that crazy $80000 wtf
Land cruiser is soon to be no longer sold here. Not selling enough of them here not worth it.
Make another video and include the MOAB. Talk about the gearing. Which ones come with the 4.10 or the 3.73?
Actually, all Wrangler JL models excluding the Rubicon come with 3.45 gears. The Rubicon will be the only model with something different and they come with 4.10s. -Zach
@@extremeterrainwhy is rubicon so expensive 😩
I have the Mojito Rubi... no red dash, Silver. I wish Jeep went a little further and painted the dashes to match the exterior paint.
What do you expect for 50 grand? Lol
First time I get everything in one video to explain the trims
1:41 Trailer "Toe" and HD Electrial Group, I'm good on toes, thanks.
I bet it even has disc breaks
That Sahara cold af ❄️❄️❄️🤧🤧🤧🤧👀👀🔥
If the sport came with power windows I'd get it. I live in 2019 the age of drive thru. Miss me with that shit.
Put in a little elbow grease and crank that window down yourself. 😉 -Zach
Great video, but what's the difference between an unlimited Sahara JK & an unlimited Sahara JL
Jl is the newer jeep then jk.
Can you explain a Moab comparison to rubicon please
Robecon is missing a 360 camera or at least side and front camera, that will make it ultimate especially in blind corners and tracks
Thanks for breaking it down for us! I never knew all the differences
gad dam music in a back ground spoils everything..
Regis Sermontis I agree
no need for blasphemy. you will have to answer to God for that. no need to spread that around
@@healthyamerican well, he said gad not God soo yeah
Very good clear explanation of the differences. As was the JL vs JK video. Thank you very much. Every Jeep saleperson should be mandated to know this info. They do not.
Sad to say, but when I went to purchase my JL I knew a lot more about the Jeep I was looking at then the gentleman trying to sell it to me! It happens! -Zach
ExtremeTerrain.com Yes. Mine too. Mine didn’t know what an unlimited Wrangler was. Did not know that meant 4 door. Lol...
If I get a Sahara and buy like buy big tires and the other good stuff! Would it be good as a Rubicon?
Pretty close to it! You can always purchase normal swaybar disconnects to match the Rubicons electronic system, and you can install a rear locker to help out off-road if you want! Both of those components together will have the performance super similar. -Zach
I actually learned something! Nice explanations!
So where does the overland model fit here? Also, doesn't the Sahara, get a exclusive color option not available on the other models?
I believe the Overland is only an option overseas, not in the United States. I believe its similar to the Sahara though! And I wasn't made aware of any exclusive paint options either. -Zach
@@extremeterrain I've seen the overland model in the US. And the Sahara color I think was the sandy tan color, but that maybe no more?
@@tbaker077 There hasn't been any factory tan paint options yet available from the factory, so it's possible what you saw was something custom. Either way in the US market there's not an overland edition you can order. Not quite sure what you saw unfortunately. -Zach
I was hoping for a look under. The Sahara is supposed to have improved cooling and a couple skid plates, where the Rubicon has full set of skid plates and...?This did help allot though.TY.
I went from a 2018 sport s JL to a 2020 Sahara JL ! Best decision of my life lol
The Saharas are absolutely beautiful! Thanks for watching! -Zach
I have a sport S and love it perfect mix of form and function for a low-ish price
It's definitely a great trim level for all of your creature comforts without paying for a Sahara or Rubicon! -Zach
Thanks!
Great review! 2021 willys team here
Thanks for watching, Tori! I love the Willys edition Wranglers, hope you're enjoying yours too! -Zach
Am here for you
Cant wait to see these off road vehicles parked at every starbucks parking lot
Agree, so when they get to a point where i can buy one used, it won't already be beat to shit :)
You win
Idk if I'll be alone in this, but I want one for off-roading and I'll be taking it to starbucks when I study too. lol. No reason you can't do both. In fact, you might have to if you can't afford multiple vehicles (like me. lol)
How else is every one else gonna know they ordered a grande zucchini latte?
@@silverfox__12 sorry to burst your bubble but the wrangler doesn't go down on price very much regardless if it has many miles or a few years old. even the ones with 100000 miles on them are still holding their value. go do a Google search and prove me right..the wife bought a new wrangler sport s and liked it so much I wanted to buy a used one but the price is almost the same not worth buying used. I even looked at older year's with a lot of miles and they were still expensive..
The Sahara is only available in the 4 door. If you don't like the red dash on the Rubicon, a grey dash is standard when you order the tan leather seats or if you order certain exterior paint colors.
I have a '16 Weangler Sahara Unlimited with the body colored top and fenders. Red. And i like how mije still looks somewhat like the older ones, without being old. Its gonna be for my son when he starts driving. I use freeway alot so it has 40k miles
Rubicon with a V8 dropped in, and dual exhaust would be my dream vehicle. :-)
With enough money you can make it happen! I've seen plenty of LS, HEMI and HellCat swaps! -Zach
When are you going to update this video with the 2020 JL trims?
I don't believe we plan on refreshing this video for 2020 as not too many things have changed since 2018, honestly. We did however touch on two of the new Wrangler editions coming out for 2020 in our most recent Jeep news video! FCA is bringing back the Willys Edition, as well as the Black and Tan and Oscar Mike! The 3.0L diesel engine option will become available soon too! Check out the following link for more information! -Zach

ExtremeTerrain.com thanks for the reply!
I got a sahara, but damn that rubi looks sick
tarta exe how do you like the Sahara? How’s the road noise?
@@jamescampbell1743 I am having tons of fun with it, it is truly a do all vehicle and delivers impressive performance on the road. I got the one with the power top and road noise is bearable, but if that is a concern for you the one I test drove at the dealership had the hard top and it really tackled it. It is a fun and reliable 4x4, test drive it and you will automatically know if it's for you.
tarta exe oh nice! I’m looking at a 2018, hopefully in the fall I’ll get one 😂 Have you done any mods to yours?
@@jamescampbell1743 the rubicon already has all the mods that I am thinking of adding to mine, so if you are going to go for the classic lift kit and swaybar disconectors maybe have a look at the rubicon and save yourself the hassle.
I'm new to the jeep world. Considering one as my next vehicle. Right now I am driving a 2014 Kia Sportage. Bought it then brand new off the lot. What is the mileage like on these jeeps? And how comfortable are they of a ride?
I still have my 2013 2 door black rubicon with 2.5 in lift and 35 in tires. I thought about upgrading to a JL for about 10 seconds. Cant do it. Still love my Jeep 😀
I love my 2017 JK too. LOL! Keeping it.
Ciao
I heard that the Rubicon also comes with heavy duty upgraded brakes, which the other models don't have. Is this true?
Rubicons and Sahara model Wranglers beefier brake pads and rotors compared to Sport and Sport S models - that is right! -Zach
What about the calipers, I read elsewhere that the OEM Big Brake kit came standard on the Rubicon models.
It always makes me happy to see people enjoying Wranglers to the fullest! Super happy to hear you love the Jeep life! -Zach
Does the Sahara come standard with the hard top headliner option?
Great Movie, you should make one that compare Sport, Sport S, Sahara and Rubicon in value loss after lets say 1year, 3 years, 5 years and 100 000 Km. Is the Rubicon going to last better in value than the Sahara and sport?
Just got a SAHARA in friday, love this toy
Congrats on the new Jeep! -Zach
ExtremeTerrain.com thank you! Now i have feeling that i need 2 door rubicon though 😅
-Zach
Excellent video on the different trim packages does help me decide what trim level to buy.
I want the Sport S or Sahara but I don’t know which one
You should check out and test drive both! Sahara models and extremely nice on the inside with their leather trim and seats. Sport S models can be just as nice, but won't have as many luxury options as standard equipment. -Zach
I have a 2018 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sport.
Is it possible to turn that into a Rubicon by adding parts to it yes or no?
love Sahara's fender painted, and what type with hard top without plastic?
Painted fenders ok for mall crawlers.
Fully loaded Sahara! With upgraded wheels!
Which one comes with proper welds on the chassis?
Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you very much.
Do you know when the JL is avaiable in New Zealand?
So if all the option on the Sahara, it’ll be coming at rubicon price #?
You can absolutely option-out the Sahara to be more expensive than the Rubicon, if you really want to. -Zach
Whats the difference between jl and jk
That question can be answered in the following link! We did a video on that too! -Zach ua-cam.com/video/EbRK0kw15cI/v-deo.html
Hi. Does Sport has an option of power windows or only for sport s?
The base model Sport will *not* have options for power windows or power locks. You only have those options when you move up to a Sport S model. -Zach
40k plus and no power windows ! Ouch 🤕 that hurts . I’ll keep my 15 JK pay it off and chill .
Paint it white and slap a postal sticker and you have your ultimate postman
Can u help me choose, I like both the Sport and Sahara
You should look into a Sport S Wrangler if you want to save a little bit of money but still want options like heated seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, power windows, and LED lights now that they're optional on lower trims! If you NEED paint matched fenders and nice leather seats though - the Sahara is the way to go if you have the budget! -Zach
