I like to see when cleetus gets to see a real mechanic work not just UA-cam star paying his way.
Use a small piece of Glad press and seal. Drop filter down press it around the outside edge turn it sideways and pull it out. It’s a tight squeeze but works for me every time.

I turned my ZF6 to about 6 pieces when it blew teeth off the gears at 110ish+ on I95.
Now everytime I see somebody bagging a manual trans it makes me jelly.
I worked at a oil change place for 10yrs I wish I was there to show u how to change the filter easily without taking anything off or moving anything out the way

Why would you tighten them tighter than factory on a solid lift cam are you just wanting to take some lobes off the cam or being that tight it maybe letting a valve hang open and you'll have a burned valve
