I bought a £300 inflatable paintbooth from facebook marketplace to attempt to paint my wrecked Nissan GTR R35 that i bought from auction & rebuilt in 24hours. But it wasnt as easy i thought.

And for the record, the video ended with me being totally annoyed with a sparkling clean car being "tested" by drifting it through a dirty field?? Who tests a GTR on it's offroad worthiness??? I was annoyed, left the channel, and gave it a thumbs down.
I owne a paint spraying business and people question our prices. Matt just proved if you go out and purchase all the equipment to do it yourself going to cost an absolute fortune. We spread the costs over years. Also preparing and painting a car is a real skill built over years. Had customers try it botch it and costs them more as we have to remove the mess they did and start all over again.
Body and paint work will always be the most expensive. Even if you do all the body work it still has to be painted. Wish i would of got into it bc with insurance work you will always have a job.
The pay on the trade is shit though, I was I did something else

You’re such an entertaining UA-camr. 3 years back, I was in the hospital for a long surgery I had. It was my first surgery and I was 11 at the time. After my surgery, when I became conscious, I watched a video of you buying a body kit for your gt86 and it helped me stay calm
I love the fact that Mat doesn't hide his mistakes. Loads of UA-camrs edit the video to make everything look perfect... Keeping it real is the reason we all love Mat so much. Great video, and the car is top-notch 👌

Being able to actually rebuild a car is a wonderful thing. Something that in Portugal is impossible because of the laws. But believe me, it's something I would love to be able to do one day. I love opening the engine of my Citroen Xsara and changing the belt, changing the brakes, anything I can do, I do it even without training in the area. I'm IT.... So seeing your work and your videos is something that makes me realize a dream and makes me happier. Thank you very much. And that GTR... One of my dream cars. Thanks
Surely you're allowed to wrench on your own car, but there's strict customizing laws ?
@@appelflapdrol Yes in Portugal tunning and car alterations are not allowed, anything that change the motor chassy wings etc need to present to get a special permition and have to be approved. Of corse you can make them and not approve them, but if the police stop you and check that is not correct, your car is appreended and a lot to pay then...

The black charcoal “thing” is called a guide coat, as it guide you to where you should sand the panel.

To play devil's advocate, that's only partly true. A formal education guarantees nothing, but it does absolutely raise your ceiling.

Something to note, you should fully extend extension leads when pushing over 1Kw of power thru it (750w+350w), as the extension lead can overheat and melt the cable.
This is less of an issue with 230v power btw
There not allowed to sell extension cables like that here in the uk. They all have to be rated to handle way more than what there listed for to stop melting and fires ect from occuring.
Great build this one. It's shocking how expensive painting is but it's worth it when your car looks great with great paintwork. One thing i will say is if you are using the both again make sure the power extension is pulled fully out when there is a big load on it as it can act as a coil and melt the cable, had it happen to me before the wire was all stuck together. 👍🏻

After just recently having a go at painting parts for my M4 I can vouch for you and say it's not for the faint hearted. A lot of skill is needed to tackle a job like this, nice of the bodyshop to give you a helping hand it turned out green... I mean great😮😂😂
I love the car, but the wheels seem too plain for my taste. Japanese cars usually come with more stylish wheels. Upgrading to billet specialties or a set of weld double beadlocks could not only enhance the car's appearance but also increase its resale value. I'd like to consult a financial advisor to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of these upgrades.

I've grown up in the auto body and collision repair industry and watching the stuff at the body shop was super interesting. Especially being from the US and seeing that you guys do it almost exactly the same as we do in the states. You were right to have Chris lay down the clear because as you said its very easy to mess it up. Just a tad heavy and you'll have sags (like runs but think longer horizontally than vertically) and the orange peel it hard to get right without having done it before....loads of times lol. Came out great though!
You should do another car in the blow up booth though cuz I'm pretty curious to see what sort of results you can get in there.
Also really want to try Yfood but they don't sell in the US yet :(

We used one of those inflatable paint booths inside a barn. It was perfect but I admit, without the barn we would have been at the mercy of mother nature.

As far as the car painting goes mate:-
You can buy paint matched to the manufacturers paint code from several places in UK.
Paint suit and mask not needed (although eye protection (glasses) and a decent mask (with filters) would be ideal.
The anti static hose and the air dryer hose for paint. Not necessary at all.
Paint gun - you can get a great job with a paint gun that's worth a third of the cost (hell ive seen £80 paint guns do a decent job just take your time and set the paint gun up properly).
Sandpaper, brownpaper, painters tape etc are all cheap enough and are essentials.
The sander again you could use a cheap one or use a hand sanding block.
Not a criticism but definitely somethings worth thinking about

That rear valance is for the later model, hence why you needed to chop it. Later models had shorter diffuser at the back. Used to sell carbon parts for GTR's
The paint mixing machine (when used correctly lol!!) is a game changer in terms of colour matching.

I used to be a paint sprayer for a body shop and I loved that job. Really made me miss it wathching this. My knees can't do it anymore though sadly.
Buy a set of 5-10 cheap moving blankets to place car body and add-on parts on to prevent scuffs. Parts carts are also great to keep them off the floor.

One Pro Tip: when drilling out your spot welds, run that drill as slow as possible. This will allow the bit to grab the metal better. Cheers Mate!

Always unwind a extensions fully to prevent fires, increases amperage and voltage allowance. It gives you ratings wound vs unwound on the front :)

Great work on this car, was fun to watch. People always underestimate the cost of body work and paint. It doesn't take much to get over $1000 products are not cheap, and the skill has years behind it. We aren't changing brakes and oil lol
