No need to hit the gym after work for these guys 😎👍🏻
I learned how to splice ropes with the same methods in Boy Scouts back in the '60s. I always wrapped my splices and tried to stretch them afterward to tighten up the splice. I took the wrapping off afterward. Never had a failure. I've still got my Marlinspike knife.
Thumbs up for that teamwork @5:43!
Amazing talent.
Awesome team work that only man can do. No robots here !
So apparently, the end of the video confirms that winches are produced by Jawas.

Hard work
Make the rope. Break the rope. Bend it. Twist it. Squish it. Dope.

good work minion!
I am impressed. The technique and capability of these men doing such work. And on wire rope of all things.. I have seen these in the field but never knew how it was done.
thanks for sharing 👌
I bet these guy's are good arm wrestlers
12:00 those chpmunks are very professional
This is so much higher quality than I usually see. I am baffled but impressed.

Nice thumbnail I wanted to see the big real with the 8 in. cables
Skilled strong lads.
Great Job 👍👋🇬🇧
The manufacturing process of these cables is really hard
back breaking work..respect from Denmark
Probably a lot of one eyed workers in Denmark with the lack of safety glasses
you can turn that "opinion" 180° round by stating that they work very safe , and no extra ppg is needed
THANKS YOU FOR THE VIDEO..SALUDOS FROM NEW YORK.

Those guys must be super strong.
More technique than strength 👍🏻

Looks like OSHA APPROVED Tennis shoes! lol
When I was a kid we made these slings during school recess after walking uphill in 4 foot snow both ways. 😄😄😄
A nice memory
Great video if you turn the sound off. A voice over of the process would be great but just watching what the process is also gets the idea across. Thanks for sharing this!
This is where they got the voices for the Minions

Very cool ! I'd like to see where one of those huge slings or cables is being used!
Cranes
Mammoet has lots of videos in here of them slinging sections of rigs, crackling towers etc.
bridges ??
They are very strong.. 👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
O louco é muitho trabalho 😳😳😳
Wao is so great
No matter how many machines you may have, the rope splicing, etc, still done by human hands/skills
It all came down to the cheapest labour you can buy, quality nowaday mean nothing.
or, in the case of the guys around 12:00, chipmunk hands
And it’s hard ass work, even with the machines!
Enjoyed your video and gave it a Thumbs Up
I bet Lorcet is very popular here!
These muscle💪 men's jobs can't be replaced by robotics.
There's a warning sign up in the office for visitors. "Caution: Do not shake hands with the employees"

wow hand / arm are very hard working and help muscle build up more strong healthly
The industrial revolution happened when man said, "There's got to be an easier way."
I had no idea they had color video 100 years ago!
Interesting, at 15:00 Washington State L&I in their logging standards prohibits using "flat bar" marlin spikes. Marlin spikes have to be round to avoid damaging strands of the line. I have helped make several eye splices similar to the one shown, in the 2" line. We only had a stump and railroad spikes to form the splice, along with some 6' marlin spikes for greater leverage. Our eyes had to be longer also. an eye had to be 48x the diameter of the cable. Which did make it a bit easier. Still though in 4' of snow and half rain half snow coming out of the sky, I like the conditions these guys work in. It is still a tough job and takes a lot of skill to do it fast. I also used to compete in logging shows where we spliced an eye into a piece of 1" I was the helper and we did OK, but never got close to the champions who could do it in 4-5 minutes from spiking down to cutting the tails off. It was amazing to watch them fly.
If you happen to know of any video of that logging show I would love to see a literal splicing competition to see how we compare in Alberta.
Think maybe you've been lied to too much, about half of your story is bs, which makes me question the other half as well. 6' spikes? "flat" vs round, a flat tip is what does not damage strands, 4' of snow? really bro? (then how did the trucks make it up the hill?) 48xdia? so a splice in 1" rope would need to be 4' long? and literally every splicing competition starts with the rope staked down, and stops when the last tuck is completed, no one cuts the tails in competition.
@@northmanlogging2769 Yeah, but what he said sounds so cool.
I was wondering about the flat edged spike doing damage
@@northmanlogging2769 Interesting, I just saw your reply of a year ago. . You are 30? perhaps 40? When I was logging, years before you were even born, that is what we did. Now, today, things may be different. Washington L&I in their logging standards (also Oregon's) still require the length of an eye to be a minimum of 48x the diameter of the line. So, yes, that would mean a 4' eye. Your inexperience shows, you don't "stake down a line, you spike it down. And, in those days, competition included spiking down the line and cutting the tails. Actually, watching your videos, I wonder if you ever really worked in the woods. Right now at 72 years of age, you and I share the same build and I know that if I had the same build you do now when I was your age, nobody would ever have hired me because I would have been considered too slow.
Just because you never saw it in your limited experience, does not mean it never happened.
This job would give you muscles ON your muscles!😂
A few home made tools and a lot of hard work is all it takes!!!!
Creative work
Jobs need people who have strong energy
Talk about repetitive motion injuries! Damn that's gotta be tough on your hands hopefully they are compensated well for the job they do.
Aaahh no! The large wire rope companies on the east coast don’t pay these guys crap! The heck of it is that their business is totally reliant on these guys skills!

These men are doing work that a machine cannot do and l dont think there are many young kids waiting in line to take up this work.
You are correct. Brutal hard work. In a past job I did a lot of time aboard ship working deck crew. Had to learn how to swage and splice ropes and cables. I still have my marlin spikes.

Lastima mucha publicidad, aparte está bueno el vídeo

Guys at 9:00 should be payed in gold.
Used to do that at Chain Valley mine, had a cable belt with 2inch rope.
Dunno if anyone cares but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. I've been streaming with my girlfriend for the last couple of days :)
@Camdyn Valentin Definitely, have been watching on InstaFlixxer for months myself :D

Ironic that chain valley used rope!
And I thought splicing lines for my sailboat was a bear...
Those guys splicing that wire aren’t paid enough.
Yea looks like bloody hard work that.
Im giving up my gym contract and applying for a job there! I dont think Ive seen anybody working harder than this|!
Christ slipped disc central. Those guys are monsters but they’ll be physically screwed in a few years

Ok thanks

you could save so much time by using a ratcheting box end wrench!
Hi, Ted! Do you mean the guy at 11:10 loading the winch? I think he's just using whatever's cheapest and to hand (and not worth stealing and that won't be missed when it's left behind on site or dropped somewhere inaccessible).
Otherwise, I imagine the rate of work by all the other teams in the video is carefully judged to avoid having the guys getting pooped too quickly. By working (relatively!) slowly and steadily and by hand, they can keep going all day long.
Hmm... Now where have I heard that before... 🤔
@@EleanorPeterson Yes, that was brutal wo watch. It would be so much more productive with the correct tool. And reduce physical exhaustion.
🖒
Para hacer un collares 🤣🤣
Really should be wearing their safety glasses.
These guys put the ump in crimp .
BUTTTTT How many standard issue regulation size FULL FINGERS these superhumans still rockin???
At about 13:00 I guess that's where they got the voice for minions?
Ladies, you're welcome to step in anytime you like 🤔🔧

Soooooo nicooooo
5:40 and after i don't know I you manage to get color video from the 19th century. Thankfully we have hydraulic machine to do this kind of work today. Expect maybe in some third world countries like the EU.
you are funny , not very accurate but who cares , if we can not do this without humor !
Nope! Still pretty much a manual task! Too many pieces going too many places! Damn hard work though!
im a bosun and an expert at marlinspike seamanship but not at these sizes of wire ropes..those topping lift wires arent for manual splicing.
Das sieht nach schwerer Arbeit aus, hoffentlich wird es dementsprechend entlohnt !

All to be done by machines very soon.

Is this footage sped up? they are working like angry robots on speed.
I can't even imagine what their workplace accidents would look like.
Oh, yeah it is sped up.
These guys are in serious need of some air tools and wenches to speed this whole process up and take the load off the workers. This process time could be cut at least in half if not more.
Not sure wenches would speed things up or be a distraction.
25 years experience and yet to see tools that can do this kind of work as it’s done let alone speed it up.
