    I have taken deer at 100 yards easily with my .45 caliber 909 and my .357 Recluse. Both guns were tuned by Will Piatt of Saddle Mountain Gunsmith in Ennice, NC. I use Mr.Hollowpoint lead hollowppoint bullets and they are great soft lead. They expand easily to transfer the energy to the impact location on the game you are hunting. I harvested a large doe last season at 90 yards with the .357 Recluse and the 115 grain hollowpoint it her right behind the shoulder and took out the heart and passed completely through her. Anyone who tell s you that these air rifles cant do the job...dont know squat about air powered big bores!!!

      Rich, I'm looking to step up from a MROD .25 PCP, do you suggest the 9mm/357 Recluse or the .45 caliber 909? I will be using it mostly for pig and recreational shooting.

    • @richkrebs1420
      @richkrebs1420 8 років тому

      It really depends on how good you are with shot placement and if you have the gun tuned. I had both my 909 and Recluse tuned by Will Platt in North Carolina and he really did a great job on the triggers as well as getting me much better performance out of both rifles. The Recluse is awesome with either 115 grain hollowpoints from Mr. Hollowpoint...Bob Vogel, or Hornady 140 grain solid .357 pistol reloads. If you want to talk more about the performance of both rifles you can text me and then we can set up a time to talk on the phone. My number is 706-973-9630

      would the 357 or 45 barrels be able to handle copper slugs if the copper were annealed first? also is there any footage of tin damaged big bore rifle barrels?

    I know you probably get air venturi ammo for free for testing, but I use the Hornady swaged .457 round balls and they are very accurate even at 50 yards about like your hi power group at 30 yards. I have the older single tube and it gets 200 fpe with with the 143 gr RBs and around 230 fpe with 200 gr ammo.

      Hey there. I got some ammo for use with the review. Funny you should mention the Honady ammo as I just ordered a mess of it! I also ordered some sabot rounds for it. I'm very curious to see how it is going to perform over time!

    i have a Samyang 909 .45 since 2010 its great power gun im shooting 455" cast bullets of 254 grain at 600/610 fps that 210lb foot energy very nice for hogs at 30 yards

    • @blackdiesel
      @blackdiesel 9 років тому

      Believe me it's not quiet. I have a LDC for mine so it's tolerable shooting it outside without hearing protection. These big bore guns are powerful, I shot some water filled gallon paint cans at 80 yards and when the bullets hit it, it seems like some kick the can about 10 feet.

    I'm late here like molasses in winter mabe worse lol. Anyway, I'm just now getting into big bores. I've been shooting air guns since I was 7. Probably before most of you were even thought of yet lol. Anyway I have a whole collection and recently just purchased this monster! If a 22 cal gas piston takes down medium size small hogs, with 30fpe or little more...geez! The possibilities this thing has with a low of 143gr and 125fpe! On low settings. Anyways, I tried mine on low power and near bout blew my ears out! Holy crap this is loud like a 2 1/2 in 410 light shell shotgun. I wasn't prepared for that. Its deffinately got power Lol it blew thru a fresh 2 in board at 18yrds and seated itself 1in. Into a cherry log! Holy cow batman! I used a .457 146gr round ball low first click power level. Jesus! It's Nasty. At 25 yards a big deer is smoked! Poor things don't have a chance with this at 50 or 60 yards high power. I couldn't imagine.Oh did I mention it sights in super easy with superb accuracy. Only took me 2 shots open sights! Stay safe have fun, keep em fly in. Ed the backyard sniper man😂✌

    I'm casting a 120gr and a 105 gr .326 for my .357 Bulldog, and just ordered a 70gr .257 in my .25 mrod (single shot trey). Hopefully I'll be able to test for accuracy next weekend. The 70gr .257 is made by arsenal bullet molds and supposed to be highly accurate, the others are Lee's. Accuracy ??? Both the 326's fit in the bulldog's mag BTW.

    I'm not the biggest fan of the metal finish used on the receivers of the Sam Yang guns I've seen, something about it just reminds me of cheap cast metal toys.
    Putting out some serious power though, with what sounds like the muzzle report to go along with it!

  • @AirGunWeb

    Mario - It all depends on the shot placement and the size of the deer. I has plenty of power out to maybe 100 yards.. but accuracy and the skill of the hunter is the real key. If the accuracy can get down to a reliable 2" at 50 yards, then I'd say that would be a safe range. Generally big bore airguns are NOT long range guns.. they are close range sledge hammers.

      I have the Recluse single tube. Itd an excellent deer rifle and will do the job extremely well. Use a 115 gr. HP from Mr. Hollowpoint and you will knock 'em dead. Shot placement...right behing the shoulder or neck shot and drop em' in their tracks. I do it every season!!

    Excellent video as usual. I like this rifle a lot but I do have a question. The 8 - 10 rd effective shooting capacity on high power sounds good but was that with the 500cc air capacity? It's awesome that some of the Sam Yangs offer the double reservoir but is that because they need the extra air storage to get the same shot capacity that other brands are getting with less air? That's one thing that has had me holding back from buying the beautiful beast of a rifle. Please let me know the answer to that question. Thanks so much and once again, great video. God bless.

    Hey Rick, good video. I wish you luck on a group at 50 yds, I had two 909s' and neither would group at 50 yds, Sent the first one back and had my second one for 2 years and shot probably 15 different rounds through it, hundreds of them and could not get it to group well at 50, best was about 3-4" and just wayyyyy to loud for me. From a customer service standpoint they were great! Both of the 909s' were tuned and were shooting around 900fps avg over 3 shots with 150gn (270 FPE). I know there are a bunch of guys who say "mine shoots great" good for you, mine did not, perhaps with my tune I just did not find the right round.. I am not dogging the gun just sharing what I witnessed and hope yours does better Rick!

    • @AirGunWeb
      @AirGunWeb  9 років тому +1

      Hey there.. I'm hopeful that I'll find something that will give me hunting accuracy at 50 yards. Given the kill zone on a small deer is 4' to 5", if I can keep all my shots to 3" or 4" ctc I'll be pretty happy with it. Obviously I want better than that, but 50 yards is along way to shoot these big heavy bullets out of an airgun. As for tuning.. I'm not sure that turning things up is always the best option. I bet it's maybe 50/50 that it works out improving the accuracy AND power.

    I noticed the Dragon's Claw .50 cal has 600+ fps and the Venturi Air Shotgun is used with buckshot, it is also .50 cal, but it's quoted at 1130 fps. There's no way it can be that far in difference? The Venturi can shoot "slugs" as well as buckshot, so if the Dragon's Claw .50 shoots at 600+ with "slugs", would the Venturi shoot around the same if it's not buckshot? I've noticed .45 and .357 rifles shoot at about 1200fps and in my opinion, you compromise slight bullet size for a lot more speed and penetration. For hunting deer and larger animals, wouldn't we want a .357 that shoots at about 1200fps compared to a .50 that puts out 600+ fps?

    I would also not get the dual air tube in either gun. The single tube is the better choice for performance and lighter weight in the field. Hornady round balls are the best way to go for long range accuracy but they lack the kinetic energy of the heavier lead hollowpoints. The Air Venturi are expensive and are no where near as good as the Hornady. Plus Bob Vogel AKA...Mr. Hollowpoint has a great Selection of slugs for the Sam Yang rifles. You can check out his website and reviews of a lot of other big bore air rifles on his website...www.mrhollowpoint.com
    In addition, these rifles are known to have poor triggers. Having the gun tuned by Will I also had him polish the sear and get the trigger pull significantly lighter as compared to the stock trigger. Once that is accomplished the accuracy will be even better. Although your shooting form plays a major role in ANY type of shooting, to get the accuracy you need for successful harvesting of wild game it is critical to make sure your form is developed to ensure a quick, clean harvest. You owe it to the game you are hunting to do this. I have a motto...Practice does not make perfect..PERFECT practice makes perfect!!!
    You need to do the same thing each time you make a shot and that is a developed skill. It does not come overnight and it takes time to perfect it. But it takes dedication and time. Good Luck...and get one of these rifles. You will not be disappointed.

    How much FPS did you get?

    • @AirGunWeb
      @AirGunWeb  9 років тому +1

      As I mentioned in the video.. FPS is not a good measure because the weight of the projectiles varies dramatically. But, if you need it for your own reference: low power with 143 grain round ball was +/- 630, high power was +/- 730.

      I enjoy your videos and information is great. It seems the speed is better than I thought.
      I just bought the 22. Benjamin Varmint power pack and have been testing it with some videos. I dont have a chrony, but I can tell you it has plenty of power. The heavy Pellets like the JSP Jumbo Monster 26 grain is accurate, but dropped a lot at 25 yards. Can you do a review on the Benjamin Varmint Power Pack .22cal.?

      bkr360 I'd need to get Crosman or one of my sponsors to cover the production time, but if they were open to it, I'd be happy to!

    doesn't this gun have rifling? if so why in the world are you using round ball? doesn't that wear out your rifling?

    • @AirGunWeb
      @AirGunWeb  8 років тому +1

      +brandon wilkes (frazdoesmc) - lead is lead.. round ball is usually soft lead so no.. it does not wear out the rifling. I've found the lower velocity favors round ball over most cast rounds.

    I always considered that rifles were long range instruments while my pistols were for close range. To have a rifle that cannot get consistent bulls-eyes at only 30 yards would be a waste of my money in my opinion. And to think that a ball is the most accurate ammo is to take the rifle back to musket days and pre-Minnie Ball losing most, if not all, of the rifling effect. I dunno. I've spent some time looking at air rifles today in a desire to keep muzzle blast down and from what I've seen so far on this channel I'm not impressed with them. But then I'm totally unfamiliar with having to have a rifle "tuned" after sighting it in and all.

    Again the Air Venturi ammo are letting the rifle down. I know you probably have to use that ammo because of the sponsor but if you really want to not do a "fluff" review change your ammo.

      robinsonmac Hey there Rob. Please give me the benefit of the doubt here would you? At the end of the video I clearly said that I was not done with this gun. I've ordered about $250 (out of my own pocket) worth of various ammo choices to continue my work with the 909. Being new to big bore airguns, I wanted to test what the normal individual would probably pick up so they would understand the out of the box, readily available, performance potential. There will be more to come.CheersAGW

    I love your videos usually,
    So iv still given this video a thumbs up/like.
    But i have to say it look horrible.
    The stock looks like its poor quality, in fact it looks like the wood is joined in the middle.
    On screen it looks two different colors???

      Thanks for you input.. I'm not sure what to tell you.. it looks great on this end...? Maybe there's an issue with youtube processing things? Not sure. I've got 1080p here with crystal clear video and images. That's very strange.
      Thanks for letting me know. I'll keep an eye on it.
