- It is made very clear in the Warrior Cats books that Yellowfang lived a harsh life. Could it be possible that her tragedies were caused by more than just bad luck?

Technically speaking, Bluestar decided to take in Rusty because ThunderClan lost a fight to RiverClan for the first time in seasons and Spottedlleaf had a vision about fire that will save ThunderClan so Firestar's existence cannot be pinned on Brokenstar.

700th like--this is the first Warriors theory I've seen.
But I think Mapleshade targeted Crookedstar because he was one of Appledusk's descendants. Think about it; Crookedstar was Appledusk's great-grandson. Mapleshade also helped Tigerclaw in his novella, and Tigerclaw was Oakstar's grandson.
Based on the text in Yellowfang's Secret, it seems like Brokenstar was born corrupted.
"Pulling herself out of her grief, Yellowfang turned her attention to her only surviving kit, and saw the expression on his small, flat face. He was new to the world--couldn't see, could barely crawl to her belly to feed. And yet his face was already twisted with strong emotion...
_Rage? Hatred? I've never seen such a look on any cat, let alone a newborn kit._
Fear flooded through Yellowfang, making her shiver with cold. _Maybe this kit wasn't meant to survive either,_ she thought. A kit born with so much anger in him could only mean trouble for the Clan."
In fact, if you trace Thistleclaw's lineage, you can connect him to Oakstar. They're not directly related--but it is possible. Thistleclaw's great-aunt was Oakstar's mate. I'm not saying this is a world-changing discovery (it's loose at best), but it is something. It seems like every cat Mapleshade attacked was somehow connected to the two cats who caused her the most suffering: Appledusk and Oakstar.
I don't think that Mapleshade helped Brokenstar down the path to evil. I think he was there all along.
But I agree with everything else you said here--it is a great theory.

Rotten Legacy he could have been raised Better, and maybe changed, good parents have always and important part of warriors, Firestar was probably the missing father figure to Brambleclaw, and Goldenflower was also a good mother, even though he was the son of Tigerstar, he had other people who does care about him, and ended up being a loyal addition to his clan, we can see something similar to Violetshine, very few Shadowclan warrior cared about her, so her only friend was Needletail, she got no affection from her current home, so she decided to join a cat that actually cared about her, she even gets kind of mulipilated by Darktail in Shattered Sky, into thinking the Clans were the evil ones, the difference at the begaining of her life, she had cats who cared about her Needletail, and Twigbranch, at the begaining of Brokenstar life, he had a mother who was a medicine cat, who stayed absent through his life, and a foster mother who was cruel to him.
But if you think about it, there are other cats in the Dark Forest other than Mapleshade. I mean, look at Silverhawk. One-eye is another. Brokenstar was born corrupt yes, and that could be part of the curse, but perhaps there was a little nudge?
That is definitely possible; I'm just saying it was probably not Mapleshade.
(As he didn't believe in StarClan, I don't think One Eye was sent to the Dark Forest)

There's the novella "Cloudstar's Journey" (which I think should have been called "Cloudstar's Regret") and the super edition "Hawkwing's Journey", so I think it's possible to have both.
I'd like to point out that since Brokenstar was the Clans punishment for exiling Sky Clan, the Clans that were the most vocal for them to leave (Wind and Shadow) suffered the most under Brokenstar. River Clan was meh so they didn't suffer much until later. But a Sky Clan Queen (Birdflight) and her kits stayed behind, and were taken in by Thunder Clan. Which Clan took Brokenstar in when he went blind? Thunder Clan... History repeated itself there
If tigerstar was not in warriors, cinderpelt would not have that leg, which means she would be a warrior

to shorten this. Yellowfang's curse was that her two good kits were chosen to die and her evil killer for a son was chosen to live. This only happened because she was a medicine cat, who was not allowed to mate. This was starclan's punishment. It said in the books that she thought her punishment was losing her kits, but really it was that "HE survived".
Her being a medicine cat with kits wasn’t against the rules as I think she got pregnant BEFORE she became one (she was a warrior first with a mate but gave that up for her job).

@Teal Splash But who knows? If he was raised by a Yelliwfang who was a warrior (and never became a medicinecat), his personality would have likely been way different, meaning Faithkit may have actually been an accurate name in an alternate timeline.

I think Firestar would have still been taken into ThunderClan due to the prophecy. ThunderClan just didn’t have many kits as stated in the books. It was never mentioned that Brokenstar’s threat made ThunderClan desperate enough to do that. Plus they didn’t even know of Brokenstar’s entire threat till a gathering later where they notice the young cats who claim to be six moons of age and Yellowfang’s account which are both after his recruitment.
But without Brokenstar, Tigerclaw wouldn’t have been able to do the stuff he did, meaning that the prophecy wouldn’t be nesscary.

I thought up an alternate reality where Brokenkit was more interested in what Yellowfang did and didn't let other cats taunt him out of hanging around with Yellowfang, a cat who he enjoyed hanging out with. He broke through fate itself and became Shadowclan's next Medicine Cat, to Raggedstar's displeasure. He still has to fight the darkness inside of him, but Yellowfang helps. I can't really think of a good medicine cat name other than his canon name.

Well at that young age where Tigerstar lost his father, Scourge was tormented by his siblings and left out of their games constantly, Brokenstar was given away to an "ambitious queen like lizardstripe", in humans anyway, any sort of trauma is extremely damaging because their brains are still developing.
I'm not saying every cat that suffered trauma at that young age turned out evil - Crookedstar and Whitestorm come to mind - but I think you're understating the role that trauma at a young age can really play in shaping someone's mind

but mapleshade was training cats there way before he died and joined their ranks. so as far as we know, she was the one to establish it. or the dark forest had always been doing it. it's just more recently that a lot of cats have been having troubles that they can exploit.
I'd say that's a good theory! I've always thought about that, but was never able to link it up. When Brokenstar was born, he was always quite violent or tempered, but not enough to build evil up on. So mabye, the dark forest decided to send Mapleshade to teach him and give him hope as he grew, while preparing him to take over the clan. He also seemed to know that Yelllowfang was his mother, so mabye they provided him that info so that he could get her out of the picture. It's possible that Starclan didn't know Rusty would be able to help, so instead Skyclan's ancestors sent the prophecy, since they knew it was time for Skyclan to return, even if Starclan didn't.

Also when Yellowfang had to give away Brokenkit (at that time) he had a horrible foster mother, Lizardfang (that's what I think she's called) he was neglected by Lizardfang. That's what I think.

Hmm an interesting theory, but Brokenkit's suffering wouldn't have been as great as it was, even for being adopted, if Lizardstripe hadn't brutalized him. It is mentioned numerous times that she constantly nipped and starved the kit during his entire kithood. It was this brutality that laid the foundation of his future personality; that only the strong deserve to survive. He experienced no love during his most formative years, and by the time Yellowfang tried to help him, he was already well on his way to being evil. The possibility of Mapleshade training him is a good one, but she would have come when he was a little older, and the foundations would have already been laid. I'd lay a good deal of the blame on Lizardstripe for beginning his misery.

Can you check more on mapleshade, and maybe think of a theory for her, to me she is one of the most influential cats ever, and if she did train brokenstar and a whole bunch of other cats that also were very influential, she might have something to her.

Mapleshade is honestly overrated... I mean, she’s basically a successful ashfur, which is to say she succeeded in achieving vengeance for her broken heart. Yellowfang made excuses for ashfur, but Mapleshade... Well yeah. And honestly, mapleshade really didn’t do too much. In life she killed 3 cats out of revenge for her lost kits. This is (relatively) not much. After all, Ashfur tried to kill a trio as well. In death, she did some horrible things, but it has been said that the dark forest has the power to corrupt the hearts of cats. I am in no way saying that Mapleshade should be pardoned for the things she had done, but slags is certainly not as badass as some say. Who knows? If ashfur was sent to the dark forest, maybe he would be as angry and vengeful as Mapleshade. Perhaps it is because she is the only female villain in the series. This is just my opinion though, and I do not expect you to agree with me, as I respect yours.

@@troops3293 yea you have a point, and honestly you're kind of right (in my case). maple shade is definitely my favorite cat in the warrior series but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't mainly because she was a female villaness. I'm not sure for everyone else but I guess I have a thing for female villans which made me really fond of Mapleshade

*SPOILERS FOR THE NEWER BOOKS*
The "theory" (which is basically fact as stated by Akira) that Brokenstar, all the destruction he caused, and the destruction and utter devastation he basically set up to happen later, was a punishment for the clans driving out and forgetting about Skyclan, actually makes so much sence to me at least looking at the chaos of the newer books. Firestar was a necessity in restoring and bringing back Skyclan. In A Vision Of Shadows and also The Broken Code, Skyclan returned to the other clans and finally found a place beside the lake. This was obviously after the events of Omen Of The Stars and the books leading up to it. So now that Skyclan has returned, everyone can rest easy, right? Well, not exactly. You see, I think over the course of destruction that Brokenstar caused, the Clans lost some of there traditions and uniqueness that made them separate from the other clans. If you read the later books, and then go back and read the first few books, you (or at least i) realised that many things have cchanged. I suppose you could blame it on perhaps writing style changed, but if you notice, the cats hardly ever share tonges every evening anymore, or at least its not mentioned hardly ever. This isnt the only tradition that they have seemingly forgotten about either. My point is, the Clans are not the same, as well as the warrior code is basically just like a rule your mom tells you over and over but you dont really care or follow it. Maybe the events of the broken code isnt necessarily punishing the cats for the code breakers, but simply trying to restore the clans to how they were before Brokenstar now that Skyclan is back and there punishment for driving them out is over
Obviously there is many conflicting things with this such as ghost bramblestar and possessed bramblestar and a silent starclan, but I dont know.
My main point im trying to make is that the destruction during and after brokenstar changed alot about the clans and kinda made them seem like there's nothing unique about them and like they have forgotten the traditions they used to have, at least that's what it seems like to me going back and reading the first book and seeing how things used to be.

(But, of course it's unfinished--there's only one book out so far)

Honestly I doubt the Erins' had thought things out *this* well, but this makes Yellowfang's Secret sound way better in general since the fact that Yellowfang had powers made it seem like she just had them for the Super Addition alone and was a dumb idea as well as many other concepts in the book that people bashed at, but nope, your video makes it sound great. More theories please!!!

While I love the idea of Mapleshade training Brokenkit (I love her), I do think YS tried to portray Brokenkit as evil from the start. As soon as Brokenkit was born, Yellowfang noticed her son's face being "contorted with rage" (paraphrasing probably, but I definitely remember he was some sort of angry). This was before Lizardstripe's mistreatment of him (as Yellowfang hadn't given him up yet) and before Mapleshade could've trained him, of course. I also get the impression that, in YS, Brokenstar's rise was written as an inevitable tragedy due to the actions before him. Yellowfang's breaking of the warrior code, Raggedstar's... cockiness? Assholery? Lizardstripe's abuse, the list goes on. Of course, you might say that it's not inevitable if Raggedstar's favouritism or Lizardstripe's abuse caused it, but what I mean is that every action led onto the next; kind of that Raggedstar favouring his son was inevitable, for instance.
I hope that made sense.
*SPOILERS (KINDA)* I actually found some information in firestar's quest, the clans were planning on driving out skyclan at the gathering.. ITS IN THE PROLOUGE BTW

Um.... Maple was from Thunderclan and her mate was from Riverclan. Maple's clan chased her and her kits to the river. Maple tried to escape with kits only to be washed way. Her mate pushed her way and choosed another cat to be his mate.

yes!! three cats watched kits drown and did nothing! THATS AGAINST THE WARRIOR CODE! besides, all clanborn cats arent quite pure clan. all cats are half clan at some point if they were born in clan. whitestorm was basicly one eighth windclan
Plus most of them came from The Tribe of Rushing Water and then some bred with rogue's/loner's that were already in the territory. Let's not forget that Moth Flight's four kits went to the other four clans and at least one of them had kits. They've got to share so many of the same ancestors.

I’ve been watching your videos for a few weeks now, and I’ve got to say that you are one of, if not the best warriors analysts (?? Did I seriously spell that correctly first try or did I just turn autocorrect off??) out there! (In my opinion, at least). I love the detail in these and how you assess everything so well; editing is amazing as well! One tip though, well not really even a tip; I’ve noticed that when you’re voiceacting/doing the voiceover for these you seem to drag out the last letter of most words in an exasperated way and it’s very distracting from the actual analysis and is really starting to bug me. That is most likely just my opinion though, since I haven’t seen any other comments addressing this. Thanks for putting together these amazing reviews! Keep it up and have a nice day! ^^
Thank you! Also, it is interesting that you point out those sounds because I don't think anyone else has. However, since I spend a lot of time editing the audio for my videos, I am well aware of them. I try to edit them to make them end sooner or be quieter, but sometimes it can be really hard. "S" sounds are probably the worst. For example, when I say the word, "books," the "k" sound and the "s" sound demand to be slightly separated, which produces an exaggerated "s" sound at the end. I have found that these sounds annoy me much more while editing them than they do in the actual video. So, my best advice at the moment would be to not pay too much attention to them. However, I am always trying to improve the quality of my speech, so I hope that I can make future videos sound better.

Yes, Brokenstar would have became evil and Hopepaw, now Hopeheart, is his deputy after Raggedstar’s death, which was not only caused by Brokenstar, but also by Hopeheart. Wishpaw, on the other hand, got her medicine cat name: Wishcloud after so much training with Yellowfang. At this point, kits are apprenticed at less than six moons and to make it worse, Hopeheart adjusted a new rule that the apprentices will not get any medical treatment from the medicine cats to keep them hunting and fighting for ShadowClan. Because of the new rule, Yellowfang and Wishcloud was exiled, and Wishcloud’s apprentice, Runningnose, was forced to train as a warrior.
Yellowfang and Wishcloud wandered for days, and Yellowfang told Wishcloud the truth: she was her mother. Wishcloud was upset at first, but after realizing that Yellowfang had helped her a lot, made amends. The two were taken as prisoners of ThunderClan, but were accepted by Bluestar after some drama. Wishcloud became Cinderpelt’s mentor.
Yellowfang died after inhaling smoke when the old forest was being deforested, but Wishcloud survived and mourned her mother for many moons. In the lake territories, Leafpaw would have chosen Sorreltail and Wishcloud as her companions when Spottedleaf guided them to the Moonpool
Meanwhile with Hopeheart, as the clan lost many cats because of her cruel rules, she was stripped of her position as a deputy and was exiled. She walked alone for a long time before she accidentally wandered into RiverClan territory. Leopardstar took her in and told Mistyfoot to give her some food before telling her to go away. Next, she stumbled into WindClan territory, where Onestar accepted her as a warrior, as long as she does not use ShadowClan battle methods. ShadowClan, still without a medicine cat, was still suffering from sickness before ThunderClan offered Wishcloud to be Runningnose’s mentor and temporary medicine cat.
Wishcloud died of greencough because of trying to care for her clanmates when they were suffering greencough. Littlecloud got his name in honor of her.
Hopeheart died from trying to help ThunderClan fight against the badgers.

1:39 um no, thunderclan didn't let firestar in because of the threat of brokenstar. they state in the chapter of into the wild where they find out windclan has been driven out that brokenstar din't pose any threat at the last gathering, at that time firestar was already in the clan. brokenstar didn't pose any threat until firestar came to the clan. the reason why bluestar let firestar in us because the clan wasn't doing so hot in general at the time (pun unintended) and also because of the prophecy.
Okay, I agree that Brokenstar didn't pose an immediate threat to ThunderClan. However, the eventual trouble he caused was the reason the prophecy existed, so I still think Brokenstar is responsible for Firestar joining ThunderClan.

If they simply wanted to recruit kitty pets they could have talked to Smudge as well. Not as hard to convince someone to join you if your adversary will possibly have house cats venturing outside executed in the future, which Brokentail was crazy enough to consider.

the maple'shade traing broken'kit might be cannon in the 2nd series tiger'star trys traing hawk'frost and bramble'star. also sense they are kin w/ an evil cat they maybe suffered. but the training only worked on hawk'frost. so this maple'shade training is maybe cannon.
Yeah, the Erin Hunter really like their details. I have another example - before Lionblaze, Hollyleaf and Jayfeather are born, Brambleclaw (I think it was him) looks at the clan and sees Leafpool. He thinks that the season is good for all the cats as even the slim she-cat Leafpool gained some weight. The next season we find out why.

this makes actually want to take a look at the series. but finding all the books is a bit of a challenge.
I have a medicine cat OC who adopted a kit and proceeded to quote the warrior code when confronted about it. The kit did need help, and Nightmist (or Skymist, depending on the roleplay) was there collecting herbs. He had a good opportunity to train a secret apprentice. And so he did, even whilst he had his own apprentice, and the kit (forgot the name) who had a home out of the camp would travel the territories to get catmint and other herbs while Nightmist trained his known apprentice. This ended up being a success for the Clans.
And also, that kit was told to leave, but Nightmist made a home for them to hide in.
I never thought about Mapleshade training Brokenkit in the Dark Forest. I haven’t fully read Yellowfang's Secret yet, but thank you for theorizing that.

Yellowfang kind of caused the whole events of Broken Code (Ashfur in Starclan) Prophecies begin (Brokenstar) And led into New prophecy through Vision of Shadows with Leafpool, Squirrelflight, Cloudtail and Brightheart.
Ashfur is assumed to be Shadowpaw's version of Spottedleaf and Leafpool, Squirrelflight and Cloudtail would have never come to the clans if it weren't for Dorito boi.

Hmm. I know this video was made 5 yrs ago but I wanna put my opinion. I agree. Firestar was probably brought in by StarClan and that’s why Spottedleaf and Bluestar got the sign. I’ve only read the first 4 books but I know he caused a lotta destruction and like you said, the SkyClan suffered to be sent away, now the tables turn and the Clans have to suffer to bring SkyClan back.

here's a little thing I thought of, what if Starclan gave the whoever named broken kit, the Idea of calling him broken kit because they knew he would break the warrior code? Or it's just because he has a broken tail... Does he have a broken tail?
