Vans Shoes: People often ask me about shoes. In most of my videos you will see me wearing my Vans shoes, usually in various colors. These shoes have no heel rise or stacking. There is also no manipulation in the arch. This allows me to walk in the most natural way possible while still wearing shoes. You can find the link to the vans in the video.
    Hollyland Lark 1 Lapel Mic:
After shooting videos for 8 years, I have finally found a mic that is simple to use and very effective for outdoor filming. In this video, I am on Coronado Island, home to North Island Naval Air Station (remember Top Gun Maverick). It is also right across the Bay from the San Diego International Airport and the Coast Guard Station. In other words, it is really loud, and I am consistently impressed with how well the sound comes out in these settings. If you need a mic, this one is easy to use, easy to set up, and there are no cords. You can find the link in the video.

Why aren't the glutes being used?

On level ground, the glutes (maximus) are used only to decelerate hip flexion after the heel is placed up until the time the foot hits the flat position. Then we use the hip flexors to pull. When walking uphill, we do need the glutes to push forward after using the hip flexors to pull up into a standing position on one leg. A good way to feel the difference between the pull from the hip flexors and the push from the glutes is walking up stairs. On the final step, you will push with the glutes until you reach a full standing position on one leg, then you need to step forward. That requires going from the glute push to the hip flexor pull. I describe this in multiple videos you can find on the channel. Of course, we also need the glutes to run or jump.
