Not only that, she also won the Golden Globe and Grammy for song written for a motion picture, and she was the first solo artist to compose, perform, and win these 3 awards. And all these years later, it holds up. No matter how many accolades Carly Simon receives, I will never believe she has gotten her dues for how good she is.
This soundtrack, combined with the AMAZING film its attached to, made Working Girl one of the BEST films of the ENTIRE decade of the 80's. Mike Nichols is an auteur of a director. It's one of the BEST films about the average American worker EVER made. I ❤ it. It's one of my ALL-TIME favorites. EVERYONE in the ENTIRE cast, (including Joan Cusack who I actually felt should have not just been nominated along with Sigourney Weaver for Best Supporting Actress opposite Griffith but SHOULD have won), Nora Dunn, Alec Baldwin, Kevin Spacey & Oliver Platt with their bit parts) ALL delivered INCREDIBLE performances.
The problem is I've worked many years like Tess and never got anything (my female boss got everything, money, reward...) and, of course, Harrison Ford... so I love and hate this picture!
Yes, I'd forgotten how amazing the soundtrack to "Working Girl" was - I really don't know how "Let the Rivers Run" came to be on my UA-cam but I'm glad it was.🌹
Most overrated city in the world. Exciting if you're into getting robbed, harassed by homeless, drug-addicted edps, or startled by mega rats. Sincerely, ex-NYC resident.
riding the SI Ferry everyday to work gets old really fast, lol, trust me on that, the excitement fades. One of the greatest movies, and I so relate to it being an office worker and New Yorker myself, I really appreciated this.
would I like this movie?????!!!...I've never seen it but I have the soundtrack on audio cassette...guess it's good since Let the River Run won best original song at the Oscars huh?????????????!!!!!!!
Yes, it's amazing, about a woman coming into her own, believing in herself, recognising, valuing and respecting her own talents and abilities - which is what more women need to do rather than questioning them and finding the strength from within to push herself and go for the "big brass ring" that so often they think is out of reach or they are not worthy of. The theme song " Let The Rivers Run" by Carly Simon encapsulates all this.
I am known as "EVE". I used to be a secretary in the Clerical field. I rose to the top executive eschellons and became the Executive Office Manager. I always wanted to be a 'shot caller", and I earned that position through over 10 years of hands-on experience with other executives in the fields of medical transcription, law, CPS, CA State Farmers' Bureau, and Plumbing. I typed 123 wpm without error. I was fastest at data entry with over 7,000 kpm. This movie is a great depiction of my rise in the corporate world, as well as my rise and descent into the world of drugs. My #1 drug of choice is crystal methamphetamine,, or more commonly known in Sacramento as 'werk". Dealers always ask, "Ya need werk?". Through the use of "werk", I have been able to transcend the boundaries of the laws of nature and hold hot glass without the consequence of burning my fingers. Only ME and MINE have this ability. I have also come up with the theory that the blue sky above us is not sky, but is water. I have witnessed an "alien" fold himself from 30 feet into 6' 4 ". I have also witnessed photos of women in porn magazines come up out of the pages into human form. I would love to hear from others who have climbed the ranks of normalcy into the supernatural. Joan Cusack did receive an Academy Award nomination for this movie, along with Sigourney Weaver (who should have won, imo).

Love the modulation at 1:17. Carly Simon seems to like unusual key changes.-
