    This was very helpful, thank you Teacher Joy 😊 My pinky is not that long, so everytime I practice my fourth finger the other fingers on the fingerboard slide foward. Is it necessary to have them all layed down when practicing?

      You're most welcome Clara. It is not necessary all fingers to be on the fingerboard, but keeping them close to the fingerboard makes playing in tune much easier. Happy violin playing!

    Thanks so much! Esp the tips about higher position. I had to admit it took me one whole year to make my pinky curved. Previously I had collapsed pinky joint in the middle. Gradually it finally could curve! But still have to consciously do it. The hand position is the most important part

    Why did you breath in like that before playing the first time though?😂😂
    This issue has disturbed me for a long time until recently (Especially when playing fast passages). But it's better now.
    Thank You Joy!

      Breathing is also an important part of relaxed violin playing. Just like a good singer, we violinists also need to breath well :) Happy violin playing Abiye!

    Joy, you just guide me into a deep forest and point to a big tree in front and tell how to climb it step by step. You pick up No 6 and go through the details to strength the weakness and then No. 7, 8. Following your method I've learnt how to deal with each single passages of the Exercises. Then you guide to the Exercises on two strings...
    Thank you so much for sharing your deep understanding of Henry Schradieck's Technics with us.

      Dear Malix, I'll try. Meanwhile, you can use the same technique for the 4th finger from these exercises as the techniques are the same. Happy practising!

    is this book racommandet for violinist who just can play Posiotion 1, 2, 3? like I haven't learned the 4. position and higher. Is it to difficult? and are their scales practice in it too?

    • @JoyLeeViolin

      Dear Rebecca, yes you can play this Schradieck book in the 1st position alone or in higher position(s) also. And you will also find scales and scale like exercise in this book too. Happy practising!

    Hi, Miss Joy! Do you think it’s possible that an adult may just need a smaller violin? Maybe 7/8 or 3/4? I am average in size, but my fingers are so short and my palms so wide that after some time of playing, it still hurts to do that part of the Schradieck that you performed. I have to stretch very much, and my pinky is still mostly flat even though my wide palms are turned toward the violin.

    • @JoyLeeViolin
      @JoyLeeViolin  3 роки тому +1

      Dear Harmony, yes there are cases that adult violinists use smaller violins like 7/8 an even 3/4. Even though I would not recommend smaller violins in general, but for some violinists with very small hands, this might be a good option. Happy music making!

      I’m going to check out some 7/8 violins once I hit my next violin goal in that case. I can’t even play in 4th or higher positions on G/D strings because I just can’t reach. Thanks, Miss Joy!! Love your vids as always. Xo

    In 7th position I can barely get my left pinky on the strings to play the c, g, d, and a notes on the 4 violin strings, no matter what my hand position is.. I’m really still on first and third, but I came to this realization when I was attacking my viola and this video came in, so I watched part of the video and said, well hey, let me see about my digits and my hand up and down the fretboard, and noticed I couldn’t play all 4 fingers beyond just fourth position!
    So then I checked on violin, and there it was.. up to 7th position only, facilitated by the violin body being smaller than the viola I am guessing. Never noticed this before because I had no business being concerned with that level of advanced playing.. I would definitely be interested in your thoughts on this.. 👨🏻
    PS) I’m gonna go out on a limb here and guess and hope that beyond 7th position violin, and the 5th position and beyond for viola, are fragmented positions and one is not expected to play all 4 fingers in those positions, because I can already imagine that it will be impossible for me to do so 🤣

    • @JoyLeeViolin
      @JoyLeeViolin  3 роки тому

      Hi Gary, in 7th position or any high positions above the 6th positions, the LH position changes a lot. LH gets turned and left thumb places under the neck which will allow the fingers to reach the strings. In extreme high positions, the left thumb is placed on the side of the fingerboard to help the finger to reach the strings. I hope this gave you some ideas. Happy music making Gary!

      @@JoyLeeViolin ..for sure Joy, that’s why I can place all 4 fingers in 7th position, but I can’t place all 4 fingers beyond that. The tones are so close together and my fingers are too big anyway. Also, fyi, seems like my pinky is much shorter than the other fingers also. Thank you Joy for your care. 👍😘👨🏻

    • @JoyLeeViolin
      @JoyLeeViolin  3 роки тому +1

      Dear Gary, Maybe I didn't understand your comments fully, my apologies. In extreme high positions, LH has to behave much more flexible such as raising the entire hand, folding fingers on top of each other , change of left thumb placement and lifting up some fingers etc. Sometimes one finger has to push other fingers in extreme high positions or place only a small edge of the finger tip. I hope you can try . Happy violin playing Gary!
