Best explanation I have seen. So many beginning students make their lives harder because they mistakenly believe all their fingers need to be on the string when playing 4th finger. Thank you, Professor Bushkova!

I was never told about this in the late 1950’s when I started and suffered from tendon problems my whole life forcing the fourth finger down. You are such a treasure to us for sharing your wonderful pedagogy 😊

Just a suggestion, It also would be super coordinated if you manage to find the time to structure a 'playlist' of your videos in order of pre-requisite. Then have that playlist link in each video that is related.
This way, if a new new student find your videos, they can have like a 'suzuki' book type of thing, but like video versions. and they can work their way through the information more effectively.
In manner of new information learning, the coordination of foundation information would be embellish with further information in a structural overall set of information.
Big fan of your videos of course. Love your channel. I know I can just go read many great books from many great violinist to learn instead. With the internet and everything though, I think videos are easier to learn from, at least for me.

I've been playing the violin for about 10 years. I have never had a curved pinky. I'm going to keep trying using these tips.

So I've been practicing trying to keep my pinky curved for about a month now. I've made a lot of progress! My one bit of advice for others is WARM UP FIRST. I literally sprained my hand when I attempted this for the first time lol. Stretch your hands and fingers if you have never had a curved pinky!!

No, there are no general rules. Everything is determined by the context and musical characters.

Fun physic, regarding our fingers being 'roman arch', that support structure. The pressure is efficiently distributed to the base.
Reminds me of that architecture/engineer success of our builders, also applies here, cause physic!
If unfamiliar with 'roman arches', a quick google search will do.
Ya, it's difficult, or rather it requires patience. I thought my bow hand was the difficult one. But the left hand requires so much more coordination for me as I learn more and more.
I heavily agree with unnecessary movements, only moving each finger as they are needed.
I think we just move our fingers in unison so much in our natural life outside of violin that it takes time to practice moving them individually without tensing any other.

I cannot turn my wrist that far. It simply will not turn that much. Also, my 4th finger will not move away from the 3rd finger. The joint on my 4th finger makes it point to and lie against the side of the 3rd finger. So now what do I do? I cannot reach 4th finger notes.

You need to have a good teacher to look at you in person and possibly adjust your hand. If you are an adult trying to play violin you may have more of adjustability problems.

Dear Julia! Thank you so much for this Video and your nice, free content! I tried this, but when I turn my hand to the strings, my pinky does reach the string in a nice, round, proper form, but doesnt reach the tone anymore. The tone would be to low for the fourth finger. What to do?
    Best wishes :)

Dear professor, You showed preparation on descending scales, but what about ascending? Passing from 4th to 1st finger is very tricky for me. I feel uncomfortable tension. The arriving finger tends to be waning, the pinky tilts slightly forward sharp. Thanks a lot.

    • @ViolinClassUSA
      @ViolinClassUSA  4 роки тому +1

I do not recommend using the 4th finger going up the scale (= ascending) for any beginner/intermediate player unless you are in some difficult flat key (like A-flat Major and such). Also, we do not need to prepare fingers all the time. If it is uncomfortable/gets out-of-tun, just place the 1st finger together with the bow.
