I got the bourbon burst as well. I'm used to playing Explorers so the neck profile was perfect. And the 2nd guitar I ever owned was a bourbon burst Epiphone Les Paul. I run through a DSL as well. I replaced the speaker in my DSL with a celestion creamback. This guitar through that amp is just absolutely perfect. I did put strap locks on my Les Paul. I also switched out the truss rod cover with the blank one they give you. I may change out the knobs with the standard brass colored ones because I prefer how those look. I'm not overly fond of flame tops but I like how these have a very light flame to them, or at least mine does.

Most guitar shops here in Australia have a leftie in most models, whilst they might have 4 colours in a rightie, they’ve got at least 1 leftie guitar in LP strat and Tele.
I’m a LP player and I love the neck pickup with lots of gain for leads. Roll the tone back and add lots of gain or fuzz to get a thick creamy tone that cuts without getting shrill when you are way up the neck.
I remember the day I bought my ‘19 Traditional (which essentially is the current 50’s Standard). I went to GC, plugged the LP into a Marshall DSL40 on the drive channel and played an open D chord. My jaw dropped. It was “the” tone in my head. I have a few other guitars, but the Les Paul is my favorite by a wide margin.
I have a 2018 Les Paul tribute, and it's my pride and joy,I got lucky as it's the one year they didn't chamber the body and use maple on the neck, and it plays and sounds amazing 🥰

I did the same but had remorse because I really wanted the unburst. I took the iced tea back the next morning and I’m live with my new guitar. They sound and feels so good it is impossible to put them down
I went looking for a new Les Paul this morning to replace my 2016 Standard Honey Burst. Played a 60s Bourbon Burst, along with some of the 50's models, the 60's felt better to me, now just need to decide between Bourbon Burst or Unburst now.
When I was a younger man, Gibson was the amazing guitar that every other guitar manufacture copied. As I got older, the quality of newer Gibson LPs faded while the knock-offs improved so much, I wouldn't buy a Gibson LP. I have a couple of quality knock-offs that I have been playing for years. The LPs I liked as a young player became really unaffordable. To be honest, I really soured on Gibson in general. Last week I stopped in the GCenter store in Sacramento, Ca. I was not shopping for a guitar, per se. The store had a Custom Shop model, a Slash Model, a 50's model and 3 60's versions, 2 in Iced Tea and 1 in Bourbon Burst. I played them all. It’s a beautiful guitar. I tried out that exact model and colour and a tobacco burst 50s standard and settled on the 50s model. I liked the slightly warmer Burstbucker 1 and 2 pickups and felt that it had a bit more sustain probably due to the 50s bigger neck. My 50s model is also one of the only Les Paul’s I’ve played that stays in tune. The nut is filed perfectly and not clink sound when tuning. You need to demo the Standard 50s model now.
I have a heritage Cherry burst also 1950s they're actually very stunning when you own one The colors on them are amazing pictures don't do them any justice
Hi Shane! I bought one of these a few weeks ago in Iced Tea. Honestly though, the color wasn’t the determining factor - they had 4 60’s LP Standards in stock and several other models. I tried the one I bought against 8 other Les Pauls. The 50’s, Slash, Trad Pro V, Studio, Classic. This one shone above the rest for it’s tone and playability. There are some things to check when buying a Les Paul - where are the bridge pieces set for intonation, is there room for adjustments? Sometimes the Low E won’t have much travel = nope. I was surprised at how different the other 60’s models pickups differed.
I just bought one of these. I am excited to test it next to my 2019 les paul standard (when they did all the modern additions like weight relieve and bypass pickups)
I just picked up a 2020 50’s Les Paul with the 57 classic humbuckers and it looks and sounds gorgeous!!!! (Also has that chunky neck you’d love!). Great video.
I like the classics too same pick ups as the sg 61 and this 60s standard i love the lil tip you gave in the sg video about being in the middle position and backing off the neck pick up ....I have been doing this on my guitars with these pick ups and it sounds great on all of them. First time I found that middle position on a gibson to be that good .I have a 50s standard but I want to put these pickups in it . I like the chunky necks too
Awesome sound, Shane. Very Paul Kossoff/Peter Green/Joe Bonamassa. I was a Les Paul guy for decades but the arthritis in my left shoulder prevents me from playing them anymore.
Above all, take the time to try the 50's and 60's in a guitar store! Personally, I took a 60's because the 50's has these vintage mechanics that I don't appreciate and the sound of the 60's is a notch above the other! But that’s my personal opinion of course!
I recently got a New Gibson Les Paul Classic and the fretboard was rather dry, used a little Music Nomad F-ONE oil and looks a lot better now and staying darker.😃
I really feel like Gibson’s rosewood is much brighter than the one used from the rest of the manifacturers... it just costs less to get lower rated rosewood I guess.
One thing I learned is if you Google Gibson there's a lot of hate. So it's hard to get an honest answer about the wood. I guess the best thing to do before you buy one is to make sure the fretboard color is what you want. Probably better to do it in person. Especially if you're going to spend that kind of money.
Hey Shane have you Ever thought about doing a video on blues rhythm? Your style/take on it? Lots of lead playing on UA-cam, but nothing sounds like a great blues progression with 9th and 13th chords!
I have the same guitar, but in the “unburst” finish. Was between the 50s and 60s model, but ultimately, the 60s model I played seemed to ring out a bit better, and surprisingly the smaller neck felt better (which is odd for me, since I tend to prefer thicker necks, like on my 54 CS Strat, and my 50s original tele).
Fantastic Guitar, I ended up getting a new Gibson Classic instead. Not as pricey and I love the plain tops. I like also the coil tap and out of phase option. They both have the Burstbuckers 61's and the same slim neck
Hi Shane, amazing playing, love your vids. Can you tell me if the 50s neck profile is much thicker. I love both but am in love with the Gold top 50s. TIA❤️🙏🙏
Well...it does sound great through the Marshall, which is hardly a surprise. And it looks great also. I don't own an LP, but if I wanted one it would need to be black. For whatever reason LP and black is my perfect pairing. Cheers 🎸🎸🎸
Amazing playing/video!! Am pretty set in getting one of these in bourbon as well. Any qualms with the stock pickups? I heard someone switched them out for a pair of Duncan’s (59 for the neck and JB for the bridge). They said the original pickups caused a little muddiness when playing heavier stuff/drop D.
Sounds great, love the look, much better than a common as heck cherry burst! Mind you it's not as cool as the really dark tobacco bursts in my opinion! You should try a 'Traditional' from a few years ago, the fat necks on those are just sublime! I tried a 2014 and loved it!
Unlike the 498T/R which are nevertheless great pickups, those Burstbuckers cut through very well with distortion.. When the gain is cranked up, they will keep their definition and sound clear without sounding blurry or muddy.. That could explain why J Page liked them..
I just love the look of this guitar! I currently play a Fender AmPro II strat which feels lovely. Planning on getting a dual humbucker and choice is a Gibson LP Tribute or a 2nd hand LP Standard 60s. Both from the new 2019 period. My concern is the possibility of a sticky neck, especially on the standard. Is this a concern? Or am I over thinking it?
I take your Marshall super lead on channel 1 put the gain on 8 and it handles every bit of it that's the thing about Gibson p AF pickups people don't know how to use and they can take the highest gain and still have great articulation and complete saturation
*Epiphone* has been using some *really excellent neck carves* lately. My JJN Old Glory has a neck about as good as my R8 and all it needs was a touch of DIY fret edge cleanup. I've been wanted a *chunky neck 335* for a while and maybe I'd be happy with a vintage 'inspired' Epiphone instead of a $4k Gibby. Unfortunately local dealers only cater to used boutique players, or total beginners, so I'm going to have to rely on you to do the review!
epiphone uses that horrible flat D profile. hate it. i have it on a dirty lemon epi les paul with it. i love my gibsons cause they are rounder. ofcourse you can buy a used korean epiphone les paul with the nice neck.
Would be interested if you could get a loan of the Custom Historic 58, 59 and 60 Les Pauls, and see if there is a step up in quality over the Standards.
I just bought one of these a 2020 model 60s model , I was surprised that the slim taper neck is still quite chunky , I love it though but I would not call it slim , I have a 1994 Gibson Les Paul custom and the neck on that is really slim.
Do you think it’s worth the price hike from the Tribute? I have a tribute and love the satin finish but I tried one of these and was blown away. Don’t know whether to trade up or be happy with what I have!
Hi Shane, it would be interesting to pit this guitar up against the Japanese copies like the Tokai or if you have those 80s copy just to see how different they are. Thanks!
My epiphone 60s tribute has the same slim neck. With the 12 ' radius it feels kinda off in my small hands. My tele, 60s custom, also with a slim neck feels much better with the 9 1/2 radius. If I was to buy an expensive instrument I definitely would look for something other than the slim neckshape on these 60s les pauls.
I wish I could like a les paul but for the same price I went with a Friedman vintage t with humbuckers so much easier for me to play and handle belly carves rule
You’ve done a review on the Les Paul Tribute before. Which would you say has the closest neck profile and fatness to the tribute model. Is it The LP 60’s or the 50’s?
Shane you have no idea how bad i’m gassing for a LP at the moment... this is not helping. I’m a fan of the 60’s slim taper neck and that bourbon burst is one of my favs... i might be in trouble here...

That Bourbon Burst is phenomenal.
I bought the same exact one used/mint, awesome guitar!
Sounds great, love the look, much better than a common as heck cherry burst! Mind you it's not as cool as the really dark tobacco bursts in my opinion! You should try a 'Traditional' from a few years ago, the fat necks on those are just sublime! I tried a 2014 and loved it!
Jeez, even the guitars are upside down in Australia!
@@jacobbrown1690 good to know. I hate Flat back necks.
Shane, I got one back in 2013 it was a premium tea burst in AAAA top, not one day have I ever regretted buying it come on you know you want it :-)
A nice CHUNKY Lester for sure Shane!
That would look nice on stage.
The one you buy might not have such a great matched top on it. Guitar brands like to send out the nicest flame tops for demo :P
Gibson doesn't have to worry about that. Maybe somebody like Harley Benton.
And he more than likely got that from Sky music on loan for the demo. So it wasn't sent to him. Gibson doesn't send guitars to anybody.
@@guitarocd9984 If it's from Sky then they snagged themselves a really stellar top there
Would be interested if you could get a loan of the Custom Historic 58, 59 and 60 Les Pauls, and see if there is a step up in quality over the Standards.
Bourbon burst? I think that is the color Jamal got recently
Shane -I don’t what it is but damn your playing sounds so much better on that guitar!
Man I live pretty close to Southpaw guitars. Awesome place
Looks great sounds awesome
I cant decide if should get a LP Standard or an ES335 Satin.. 😅 This video helps. :))
I wish I could like a les paul but for the same price I went with a Friedman vintage t with humbuckers so much easier for me to play and handle belly carves rule
It was helpful because it was the guitar I wanted
ネックの握りがスリムテーパーがいいので、60‘sがいい!ピックアップもパワーがあって美しい音でした。
Tried one the other month loved it just to expensive
??? how is this expensive??
Smokey Bourbon is Always Smooth !!
Im a beginner guitar .. if you do . Can't i have that 🙏😀... Thanks Shane God bless you.. im a left handed too
You’ve done a review on the Les Paul Tribute before. Which would you say has the closest neck profile and fatness to the tribute model. Is it The LP 60’s or the 50’s?
The neck on the 50’s is too thick for me. Are the pups on this model too hot for blues?
I would certainly get one if I had the kite.
sweet paul!
Damn! I’m in love! With the guitar… you’re pretty cool too. If I ever buy a Gibson Les Paul, this will be the one.
Shane you have no idea how bad i’m gassing for a LP at the moment... this is not helping. I’m a fan of the 60’s slim taper neck and that bourbon burst is one of my favs... i might be in trouble here...
