Yes but when we freed them we had the ability to create unlimited worlds Where we could save them again multiple times but then Steve's mind became crazy for MORE POWER and he went too crash and he become the unknown creature that we still have no proof exists.
I have two issues with this theory: 1. Timing. If Steve is resurrected from the moment he initially died, then how has the world changed so much? Presumably, it took a long time for the various structures to fall into ruin, for the builders to become the endermen, for the piglin civilization to rise up in the Nether etc... There has to have been a long, long, _long_ time between the destruction of the builders' civilization and the appearance of Steve given how pristine and untouched the world is when we first arrive. Also, if the wither was the cataclysm that started all of this, where is it? Surely it didn't just disappear. There has to be at least one wither out there still wrecking havoc. 2. If defeating the enderdragon is the key to Steve's redemption, why can we still respawn after dying, even if the enderdragon is dead? Tangentially, wouldn't it make more sense for the task of redemption to be killing the wither? Why get this completely unrelated space dragon involved? It's an interesting theory and, if nothing else, would make for a good story, but I don't think it necessarily fits Minecraft
This is an interesting idea, and I enjoyed how you approached it from a more symbolic perspective. I have been thinking about the "Steve question" for months now, and I have come to a much different conclusion (which I will eventually explain in a video of my own). Nonetheless, I always like seeing how others approach the lore of Minecraft. One of the beautiful parts of the game is how it's open to interpretation, and I'm happy I got the chance to see what you think about one of the tougher subjects in Minecraft!
but steve never repented he took hostage of every types or forms of living beings killed the wither so many times and he made everything possible so steve never repented
Yeah ngl you have a point. One time I did an experiment with them a long time ago. i trapped some in a cage full of water. i spawned some in and quickly filled the hole. and to my surprise they used a water breathing potion so yeah they might also be pretty intelligent Especially with the fact that they know how to brew potions
Actually, it has been stated there's lore in Minecraft. Ravagers were initially supposed to be scared off by bunnies in much the same way as creepers are afraid of cats, but one of the devs rejected that idea siting lore inconsistency.
It's referred to as Quasi-Lore because it's not a solid established narrative. Death of the Author theory states that if it isn't written, it's subjective and any attempts at giving further context (beyond the pages, or in this case, the screen) is no less speculative than the fans giving attempts at external context. Meaning those quotes cannot give further cannon to the lore, they can only be considered theories in the same way that any other fan has theories. Until it's officially placed into the content itself.
Players who play as green frog looking blobs, royal walking pig/blood gods, Creepers, normal looking humans who dress weird, Enderman looking things, and so much more: Are WE a joke to you?
Three issues: 1) Endermen still hate you after you free the end. 2) You can still respawn after freeing the end. 3) The gods directly say "Now, wake up" implying you're not finished. While I like this theory, I feel there are better explanations. To me, Steve is one of those gods, but inside a human body and with limited power. What are the gods? People playing in creative, people who have the true powers you can get, and as such, are bored. So, to amuse themselves, one of them got turned into a human, one got given the ability to roam this world with finite power. But there's nothing fun on seeing someone fail, the same way you can still play football after a defeat, so they made him immortal so he could try again and again. But being creatures who were used to be all powerful, most of them just gave up, they didn't wanna try anymore because there was no reason to do so if it was going to be THAT hard. And so, we get Steve. He wanted to try, he wanted to see what happens, he was new for this people and he wanted to be new for this world. The gamemode is called "Survival" for a reason. He thrived, he found new things to amuse himself. Now, as another creature of this plane, he could experience the world around him. Endermen hate you not because you're the cause of the dragon slaving them, but because you're not supposed to be here, they hate endermite precisely for the same reason. As such, even if you free the end, they'll still hate you. As such, even if you free the end, you'll still respawn because there's more things to do in order to amuse yourself. You're a god, you're just playing. You played well, and while going back to a new body, you hear your mates praise you for your efforts. They know who you are, what made you, what are you inside of. You're not in a real world, this is just something they created to amuse themselves. You're inside a machine, dreaming. And the dream was long, and the dream was beautiful. And for your dream they created the world around you, the computer in which said world is inside. The person moving you around and the people before them. Steve is you, you're Steve, you're one of those gods playing the Steve's role. You're the player. "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Unknown.
What is steves a robot and you are just controlling a gerbil in a cage? Maybe steve isnt a bieng., what if the miners and gods teamed up and created a robot that could rebuild itself when it gets killed. And when you defeat the ender dragon the gods fill your memory board and something happens to where the gods couldnt stop steve and steve is stuck in the world. The miners got transformed and when they see steve, the are trying to stop him.
and steve is one of the many robots that can play in this cage world thing, that explains why you cant escape to space or something, steve is trapped in a cage.
@armagon calamity If you have a fibreglass pen, very carefully brush around where that scrape is (bottom side of the pad) and see if there’s a bit of an off-shoot of a trace from the ground plane. Failing that, if someone has the same card, hopefully they can trace where that goes to and let you know where to do a bridge/jumper cable. Good luck!
@@the-digital-idiot that makes sense, that means that Steve doesn't die, instead, the gods rescue him in time and take care of him until he can continue his journey, hardcore mode is another reality in which Steve get severely injured and pass away before the gods can do anything
I'm shocked how everyone puts together these theories and never acknowledges the zombies. You always hear people compare Steve to the villagers but they are always missing the fact that the zombies shapes and colors are almost exactly like Steve.
There's one video he made where his hypothesis is that pillagers created a zombie virus infecting the ancient builders which made them flee to the end. If I recall correctly. That could mean that the player is infected by the zombie virus, but instead of becoming undead it turned Steve/Alex into immortals through some mutation of the virus. You'd still have to explain why the player teleports back to spawn though.
@@mustachespudMaybe hardcore is the “real” minecraft and anything less is just a simulation? Then again, we don’t know. Maybe steve is an actual god, with creative mode being his real life and he goes into survival mode out of boredom?
I don't think necessary a zombie *virus,* I think it's what happens when a living person *withers* for too long Which explains why zombies and skeletons attack you: they too are victims of your creation
I like to think that Shulker Boxes are weightless. If you think about it Shulkers can fly, and since their boxes would be really heavy because there's something in them controlling the boxes that would make it impossible to fly if they were really that heavy.
When you kill the shulkers, the shells drop to the ground, like any other loot. And you make them using a chest, and that has significant weight as well.
Don’t think so since the shulker can makes Steve fly no matter how heavy Steve gets so same logic will also applies to them, able to fly regardless of weight
They can't really fly, they just stick to walls and can teleport. If you look on the bottom of a shulker you see a spiral foot which is similar to a lot of sea life like barnacles and muscles that they're clearly based on. Shulkers are a massive mollusk that's somehow adapted to life in the End, and attaches to the walls of end cities just like how real life barnacles attach to the sides of boats and docks. Where they came from and why they're there is a whole other question.
EXACTLY! I can't stand how MatPat/Tom swap back and forth, one second it's "Villagers are clearly a different species from the player since they can't build" and the next it's "Villagers don't have arms meaning they can't wield weapons" but clearly, the villagers are meant to have built the villages, and Jeb did literally mean that as a game mechanic the villager model doesn't have usable arms, even though lore wise they just have their arms crossed.
I like this cycle theory. One of the official Minecraft books “The End” talks about a cycle, the two entities, and endermen being able to interact with each other (share stories from generation to generation which leads to them know what Steve is)
Theory: The gods manipulate Evokers to create Totems of Undying for Steve. Think about it. Evokers possess items that can cheat death, but never use them? And we know that it is possible for these Illager species to hold things like Axes and crossbows- and even Evokers spread their arms apart to summon Vexes and Fangs. I think the gods are tasking the illagers as challenges for Steve. The Illagers only perform coordinated raids on villages when they know Steve is there (somehow). They certainly have beef with the Villagers but seem to only act when Steve is around. It’s a pretty loose theory but it kinda fits the idea that these gods are setting things up in favor of Steve.
I think illagers attack villagers because they need the power of souls to use the totem of undying. However, they failed because we, as a player, stopped them. On the other hand, we can use totems because we kill mobs and collect enough soul power from them(xp orbs).
My theory is that the bad omen acts as a sort of tracking spell. When the captain is killed, the cursed gets placed on steve. When steve gets near a villager, the bad omen reacts to the villager souls and teleports a horde of raid troops around that location.
My theory is that steve is the reason the ancient builders disappeared. He didn’t kill them, they just found out some immortal guy who could basically do anything was going to appear, so they got tf outta there.
The reply about creative mode is interesting, because it makes me think that Steve in survival mode is just a weakened Steve that was once in creative mode. Maybe the ancient builders and Steve went to war or something, and both ended up losing. Steve lost his best powers, and the Builders turned into mindless zombies, making them unable to do anything else build-related again.
1. the respawn mechanic isn't necessarily canon, but bringing it up is an interesting idea. 2. it's cool to have an explanation for why Steve exists. 3. the game continues after you beat the dragon, and you continue to respawn. 4. there's definitely a time skip between the start of the game and the calamity, which the two entities would've had to do on purpose, which isn't impossible, yet seems odd.
Yeah that's what I think. Canonically we should be in hardcore mode, but that's a challenge that would be frustrating for most players. Mojang just puts in the respawn mechanic to make it fun.
I like to believe Steve’s ability to respawn is correlated with the illagers and their tests with life. I believe they found a way to make a master builder be able to respawn, and some other turn of events led to their escape to the end.
Or the original Builders researched respawning as a cure to the zombie virus, and were finally successful with Steve (and Alex). But by the time they succeeded, only Steve (and Alex) remained to receive the respawning ability. Everyone else had been turned into Zombies and Skeletons (who look more like Steve and Alex than the the Villagers and Illagers). The illagers have fragmentary research notes on the respawning research and are attempting to recreate it.
@@davestylehenry its problably just not canon i mean EVERY game has a respawn mechanic so it doesnt make for minecrafts respawn mechanic to be the only one that people think its canon
1:07 just imagine you’re an Guardian just seeing an unkillable man talking to them self while tweaking and fisting the water while on the place you’re guarding.
@mohammad khan exactly. also fun fact: In minecrafts 3 dimensions, beds explode in 2 of them. Meaning that beds are primarily bombs in the known minecraft multiverse, and sleeping is a secondary function.
I honestly feel like the pillagers, and specifically the evokers have something to do with Steve being immortal or atleast respawning. From totems that defy death, to wools that has the same exact color of Steve, it's almost impossible to never point out the relationships of both entities.
What I just realized is that we have two souls, that guy that started this, and the last builder. We are merged but not the same. Main proof “how did WE get here” that means that guy is guiding us but isn’t really us. Like a backseat driver. That is how we know crafting recipes, he knew them.
i have a small theory to fix that up. agreeing with another comment that the respawning is a "curse" because of Steve's actions, the gods realized that they made a fatal mistake, and Steve actually liked it. Because of the embarrassment, they just rolled with it, and grew attached and liked the player. The hardcore timeline however, the gods didn't have embarrassment, because it's hardcore, and they're in "hardmode", becoming less embarrassed. And thus, they fix their fatal mistake, and made things much harder for Steve, to haunt him even more.
Personally, I believe that Steve can't respawn, and that respawning in normal gameplay is simply game mechanics for the sake of a game. The reason why we respawn at beds is again, simply game mechanics rather than actual lore. I actually believe Steve himself to be a remnant of the builder race however, a smaller segment that were tasked with removing the eyes of ender from the end portal frames (With the exceedingly rare full portals being from builders who failed to do so in time) in order to close off the end from the infection. Tasked with that and that alone, with so little of their own population, they eventually fled the fortresses, fleeing into the wilderness hoping to outpace the zombies and skeletons. Steve (and Alex) being one the last surviving builders remaining, take it onto themselves to try and reclaim the world. As to why Steve's attacked on sight by the endermen, I actually believe Steve's linage gave the secrets to creating the totems of undying to the Illagers, who in turn, used what they learned to make something new: The Zombies. Commanding them to attack and kill the Ancient Builder Race, and creating a chain of actions that eventually lead the builders into the end, they gave Steve's people a punishment, to join the endless hoards while the remaining builders escaped into the last dimension: The End. Sealing them away from the overworld. In short: Respawning is simply a game mechanic to make the game easier, same with bonus chests. Steve himself isn't aware of any deities watching him till the end, or of his own immortality as in the canon of minecraft, he isn't. Steve's race are a disgraced population of the Ancient Builders who caused the zombie outbreak to begin with.
I always thought that Steve was a construct of the ancient builders. Kind of like an iron golem. Created by the ancient builders to finally free them from the dragon. But your theory is really making me rethink that. A builder who bites off more than he can chew and as a result is stuck until he can fix it makes Minecraft relate way more to real life, and I like it. Thanks for the great video!
I mean... In the end poem, it is said that the player was created by someone who absorbed the mass of the player, from the air, and on the ground. (Maybe a goddess) which created Steve. So maybe Steve was created by bits of what's left of the ancient builders.
Oh hey, you think Steve is a golem too? He is a spirit golem that can manifest a physical form. The spirit world is blocked to this unnatural creation, so instead of being pulled into the souls sands of the Nether upon death, it returns to it's last resting point. It was to be given a goal, something important to the ancients, but they all were gone before he was given purpose. So, not knowing what to do, it builds, it survives, it learns, just like how their creators did. Boom, just thought of all that. Gonna go craft some more head-canon.
@@NaisanSama Thanks, once I started hearing about all these new updates and hints towards some _deep_ lore, I just knew I had to give the game another shot. These new super deep caves are awesome!

@@madladdie7069 Might've been a mistake and Jeb remembered some part of the lore before removing it. Also some gameplay aspects of minecraft take priority over the lore sometimes like how iron golems don't attack creepers because mojang didn't want there to be world destruction without player input.
Interesting theory! Perhaps also, the achievements/goal system is a way for the ancient gods to guide the player towards defeating the dragon, encouraging the player to work forward systematically to get more prepared and closer to the end, to repent for Steve’s past mistakes…
I have been on the Minecraft lore grind, and this is the 23rd lore video I’ve seen. If we look at RGN’s breakdown of how to interpret Minecraft lore, we see that there are categories. Not to downplay your research, but this seems like more of a gameplay aspect, just like infinite water sources or milking any cow. Without the ability to respawn, it would limit the sandbox gam side of it. There is also hardcore mode…
“The nether is the most obvious correlation. A red demonic dimension that seems to be strongly based” Lads, we have another clip to send jack manifold. This one might even top “all warfare is based”
Before the release of Minecraft Story Mode, there was a little game you could play where you'd ask questions to a bot. If you asked about Steve, this is the response: "Steve has expressed that he doesn’t want us delving into his sordid past." Another bit of offical dialog from the same thing: "Minecraft: Story Mode won't be about Steve's disturbing origin story" This was back in 2014
after the end he says that the gods wont respawn him but everyone knows that you will respawn maybe hardcore is a representation of after you beat the end
maybe in hardcore you are an ancient builder who could not go to the end and got trapped in the overworld and the others think you are steve cuz you did not go to the end
This is the ONLY theory I’ve heard as to why the endermen only attack when they see your face. Good job! I think it makes the most sense out of all of them!
@@Dark-iv3gm ehhhh, game mechanics. if this is actual cannon (in other words, if you accept it as cannon for your world) then it could easily be chalked up to game mechanics, and the game's true end being the death of the dragon, and everything else being epilogue.
Its not when they see your face its when you look them in the eyes after it being so long since they saw a normal steve and there massive eye problem(as seen when you spectate them) they probably mistook you for a zomboi or skelebone
People like to connect Steve with some sort of ancient builders, but Steve kind of seems like some sort of eldritch god, able to dig and build massive things in seconds and change the landscape, and is literally immortal.

Wifies: "only when we kill the dragon, the gods are proud, and end our cycle of respawning" Me: The gods must not be proud if he still respawns after death...
Imagine this: Player: Hey god, thanks for letting me live a more risky life and not respawn! God: Yeah you’re welcome. Player: But what about you? You still respawn, do you? God: AUGH NOOOO IM A NOOOOB AND IM UGLYYY I DONT DESERVE THISSS😫😫😫😫
not sure about Steve having created the wither, but I feel like when the gods are talking about being proud of this Steve in the poem, it's maybe referring to the idea that Steve doesn't actually respawn in his actual body, but instead respawns in a completely new body, and his memories are transferred into the new body.
Despite the jokes about Steve, I’ve been confused actually about if steve has facial hair or a smile. I came to the conclusion of facial hair (goatee to be exact) since it’s the same color as is hair and plus there’s a different color of skin in the middle of the beard and nose, 2 pixels wide, the same look as lips on a Minecraft character
When Steve created the WIther, he created a life. He created one life in exchange for his infinite lives. He tried to play God which the actual 2 Gods did not like. Steve was meant to kill, not to create.
@@thebuilder3594 Your right when Steve makes the Wither and it says "The Beginning?" its signifies that this is the players first step towards becoming a mortal and/or his actual first step in his life, his destiny. And like you said the it says "The Beginning" without the question mark once you kill the wither, it means there is no turning back and Steve became a permanent mortal.
I like the idea of Steve being respawned and tested by higher, powerful god-like entities. Another thing I thought of while viewing your video and processing the theory was the kind-of resemblance with the choice of world difficulty while starting a new world and Undertale, where our actions lead to different routes (good ending, bad ending etc..). I think the world might be a crafted dimension by said superior entities to serve as kind of Limbo, where the player is given a second chance to redeem themselves and their misconduct that led to the extinction of the ancient builders in their past life. That would explain why there is a canon name for the player (Steve being part of the ancient builders) and why it is easy for us to change our "identities" (being the username, the skin..) - because it would be a "wish" of rebirth granted by higher-ups. Though, the hardcore mode would make a lot of sense being the real canon route, since based on the End Poem, we do serve as a "player" - an entity being toyed by god-like creators. However, the part "this player" in the End Poem makes me wonder if the universe might multidimensional, given that we are designated and there might be another one like the player and MC and variations of the game such as MC Dungeons are connected altogether.. Then, would that mean that Steve isn't the only one at fault for destroying the race of ancient builders.. Another thing that would confirm this thought would be the interactive Minecraft game where the player has the purpose to beat the Wither Storm that they spawned "on accident" and is accompagnied by other people.
What if, when the dragon is slain, we absorb it’s incredibly powerful soul and ascend, allowing us to read the thoughts of the gods and respawn without their help. This explains why we still respawn after killing the dragon, and why the dragon drops an incredible amount of XP.
"one thing seems so much more advanced and intelligent, you, the player" how dare you assume I can put a staircase down at the right orientation on the first try
Steve was in a safe state of suspended animation. When he awakens after the apocalypse he/you have no memory of anything that happened before being frozen.
Holy moly I love this theory, I started forming stories in my head from it, snippets of the character of steve at different points... Realising he can't die and at first confused and shocked, then somewhat happy because he can't die and he can do anything, and then slipping into a realisation that there is no escape and no end for him. Steve finding out about 'the end' and setting out on a journey to reach there, hoping it will finally bring an end. Finally going through the portal to discover the dragon, standing in his way. The small internal hesitations over whether to kill the dragon. The final hit, freeing the end, and a new portal forming. Seeing a gateway appear too, deciding to explore that first - he might as well. Finding an end city and an elytra, further piecing together the history of the world. Returning to the main island, finally ready to go through the portal of no return wearing wings. He doesn't die, but the experience has brought a form of peace within himself and the world. He had contact with the two gods too. He can now fly through the world and carry more on him. He's realised he could do so much more in and for this world so he decides to stay. However, having learnt about the history of the world made him curious - if it is true that he could be capable of creating life, maybe he can use it to hatch the last dragon egg. So he begins to experiment....
Well, you respawn it yourself, it can't press a button and it's back, you have to specifically create it. Just like Wifies said, you can kill Jerry the villager, and yes a new villager will spawn but it won't be Jerry.

One line in the end poem: “That is how it chooses to imagine many things, when it is deep in a *dream* of a game.” Maybe the player is just dreaming all this, that’s why he can respawn. Because it’s a dream, you waking up from the bed is you still in the dream. The poem tells you to wake up
I wrote this in a comment on another Wifiories video, and it discusses that exact idea: The Mojangians created End Portal frames out of Warden bones, and placed them within a 5-block circle. They placed within the twelve eyes they had gotten from the two Withers, and a portal opened up to the Void dimension they had longed to find. They went through, and found a bedrock one inside. They were greeted by dragons, much like the nether ones previous, but black and not red. The ground was yellow, and spread out between millions of islands... They built pillars of obsidian to mark the island leading home, before they went out to colonize this new world. They found plants, and used them to make purpur to build the cities with, and same with the ships they used to get around. However, the Dragons disliked their land being taken, and begun attacking. Thousands were killed, as the Mojangians tried to combat the Dragons. The dragons they killed, they used the wings to form some for themselves, calling them elytra. The wings allowed them to fight easier, and extra elytra were put into storage on the ships. The dragons used their radioactive breath to attach, which sped evolution. This also turned some purpur blocks into shulkers. The humans tried escaping to the overworld, but were followed by the dragons (although the last one broke the return portal, and was left). They terrorized the landscape, creating the Mooshrooms, Creepers, and even turned some humans into the Endermen. The remaining humans fled to the Nether, and built fortresses to protect themselves. It was barely enough. The fortresses got destroyed mostly, and millions more humans were killed. They travelled back to the Void Dimension, and discovered the broken portal. They were trapped, and as they could not relight it, they were slowly killed. Until none remained. However, one was left in the overworld. His name: Notch. As he was sleeping one night, he had a dream. He dreamed of sunlight and trees. Of fire and water. He dreamed he created, he dreamed he destroyed. He dreamed he hunted, and was hunted. He dreamed of shelter. He dreamed of the original interface, Minecraft. He dreamed of Steve, one where death was not the end, but rather a temporary inconvenience. And while the same things existed, he dreamed they hadn't been destroyed by war, but rather were still alive, beaming. But of course, that was just a dream. And when he awoke, he found himself staring up at himself, looking at reality beyond the screen. He rose up, into a dimension of the sky, and was greeted with a simple message: "I see the player you mean."
I always figured that Steve was something created by the ancient builders. Something that coudn't die, and their first successful experiment for immortality. Then, confident in their abilities, they made the wither, and it's all history. Or maybe Steve was taking a long time to complete the process of being brought to life and they got impatient, and that's why we spawn to long after the events take place, because we just finished gaining life. I dunno, with the 1.19 update and the echo shards and the recovery compass, it gets all wierd and complicated.
I like this theory... it fits with one thing the Endermen all seem to say to me: "Its the Creator" At first, I thought they were telling each other "Its the creator, the player, of this game world..." Only now, it fits nicely in your theory, "Its the Creator. Of the Wither."

One thing that can really prove this theory right is the book that contains all the recipe for you to advance, it's not an actual book but more of a memory where steve stock recipes, but recipe can be optain with only one object even for more complex items/blocks, so maybe steve lost memory from his first death and slowly remembers recipe that he did with fellow builders, given this idea the advancements could totally come from the same thing, the first advancement is just commun sense that every builders would have but the more he does it the more he remember what he gotta do, and also what he did explaining "the beggening" achivement name

@@l0s3rsclub87I mean, the intentional omission of a specific thing is as much lore being mechanically represented as adding something new in is.

Three issues:
1) Endermen still hate you after you free the end.

Holy moly this is great.
Fun fact: When Steve dies in hardcore he takes existence with him
when the dies in hardcore the gods just delete the world, if hes dead can't free the end...

Shulkers cannot fly

Wow! This is too much for my two brain cells to process. Good theorys though.
If Minecraft were an Anime, the Pillagers would be that antagonist from the first episode that becomes a friend
Basically, the Illager flag (Banner?) Has some kind of tracking spell on it that tracks down whoever kills the bearer, and sends troops

According to the nether update trailer, respawning is indeed canon.
@@therealshugon1353it's just a skit and it's not cannon I think
@Cool_Patato it's from the official minecraft account. And besides, respawning is neccessary in minecraft in order to learn from mistakes.
@@StraightSkittle unless stated otherwise, the respawning in the video confirms it is canon.
The illagers have fragmentary research notes on the respawning research and are attempting to recreate it.

i thought of hardcore when i heard that
What I just realized is that we have two souls, that guy that started this, and the last builder. We are merged but not the same. Main proof “how did WE get here” that means that guy is guiding us but isn’t really us. Like a backseat driver. That is how we know crafting recipes, he knew them.
“We respawn.”
Me, a hardcore player: well yes, but actually no
There is another version of Steve and that is Craterof that is the Dead version of Steve but he is giving power
U mean he destroys the universe were he can only live once and create another world?
i have a small theory to fix that up. agreeing with another comment that the respawning is a "curse" because of Steve's actions, the gods realized that they made a fatal mistake, and Steve actually liked it.
What if hardcore is prequel? Like you play as ancient builder although it doesn't explain the endermen and such
I always thought that Steve was a construct of the ancient builders.
Gonna go craft some more head-canon.

not sure about Steve having created the wither, but I feel like when the gods are talking about being proud of this Steve in the poem, it's maybe referring to the idea that Steve doesn't actually respawn in his actual body, but instead respawns in a completely new body, and his memories are transferred into the new body.

Steve: Dovahkiin.
May also explain why we can revive the dragon, meaning it has infinite lives also, but it’s we took the majority of its energy
Our quest is to kill the dragon and so we respawn infinitely until the quest is done. But when we kill the dragon we obtain its energy.

The body cant live without the mind
--the matrix
I wrote this in a comment on another Wifiories video, and it discusses that exact idea:
The Mojangians created End Portal frames out of Warden bones, and placed them within a 5-block circle.
Inception vibes: the diamond never fell
I always figured that Steve was something created by the ancient builders. Something that coudn't die, and their first successful experiment for immortality. Then, confident in their abilities, they made the wither, and it's all history. Or maybe Steve was taking a long time to complete the process of being brought to life and they got impatient, and that's why we spawn to long after the events take place, because we just finished gaining life.
I dunno, with the 1.19 update and the echo shards and the recovery compass, it gets all wierd and complicated.
