I want to mention this video only included clues that helped get closer to solving the mystery, as i value your time and quite frankly the amount of dead ends and fake clues would of lead to this video being an hour long! So if you want to dig deeper for yourselves i welcome it and will leave links in the description!

Great Video :D

Oldroot is personally, one of my favorite minecraft themed arg’s. (next to don’t look at the moon) It’s still one of my favorite parts of arg history to this day.
I used to obsess over Oldroot videos
same bruh, also with mark101
You need to hear about the lost alpha version , it’s probably the second best arg in my opinion.
@@iiastericc6192 that’s probably my 2nd favorite too honestly
The don't look to the moon apparentely wasn't an ARG, but the man actually losing his marbles (he didn't go insane, I belive he published a final document explaining that after getting help, he recuperated from that, and also a dude explained what happened to him on the internet)
Fun fact: The creator of OldRoot also created the “DON’T FEED THE MUSE” ARG.
Alex bale?
@@marcelkirch6805 Yes
@@RainbowDan7 but Alex Bale is the creator of OldRoot
theres more on the website now!
And pizza time pizza, and promos
The fact OldRoot came from the same person that later on gave us "Don't Feed The Muse" amazes me. Congratulations to Alex Bale for making 2 AMAZING ARGs.
Hopefully once DFTM is over he'll come back to this mystery and deliver more.
I'll have to check out the other one cause in my opinion, this particular story/mystery was kinda lame. The clues were either so convoluted that only the creator would understand them, or there just isn't enough substance behind the clues for it to be a rewarding challenge.
Watch promos and pizza time pizza if you haven't already, it's worth it they're so good
He said that he wasn’t planning to add any more to Oldroot because it could already be solved without him doing anything, and constantly providing clues devalued the project.
who is Alex Bale?

There is more to this ARG that what the video showed us. As far as I know, the creator (who was later revealed to be Alex Bale) decided to abandon the project due to the convoluted story and having to keep posting clues cuz investigators couldn't solve them. This is not to say that the ARG is bad, as it did have somewhat of a story at the start. However, that story was soon lost and the ARG turned into a waiting game for the next clue. Kudos to the creator for the effort, though.
The best part about oldroot, is that he adds deception.
Unlike most ARG’s, oldroot would trick people in ways that are hard to decipher. Which is one of my favorite things about this ARG
I feel like the reason this was never solved is because they got wrong some of the hints, bringing them on another wrong path.
Nice video, you summed up the mystery well, but I think you missed something. The melon temple in the video was found on an actual Minecraft server. Several signs were found in different locations on this server, which lead to more clues
i loved this ARG, as well as the dont look at the moon and mark101. i find that these turn minecraft into no longer a sandbox block game, but a darker horror game
ah yes, dont look at the moon and mark101, some of the best minecraft ARGs, alongside oldroot.
Yea mark101.... I remember him he broke his world in an attempt to fix it all I am very familiar with this story....
Vigenere cipher!
The Vigenère cipher is a classical encryption method that uses a series of interwoven Caesar ciphers based on a keyword. It was invented by the French cryptographer Blaise de Vigenère in the 16th century and is considered one of the strongest manual encryption techniques of its time.
Here's how the Vigenère cipher works:
Keyword selection: Choose a keyword, which is a word or phrase that will be used to encrypt and decrypt the message. For example, let's use the keyword "KEY".
Key repetition: Repeat the keyword to match the length of the message or the part of the message you want to encrypt. If the message is longer than the keyword, repeat the keyword until it covers the entire length. In our example, if the message is "HELLO WORLD," the keyword "KEY" will be repeated as "KEYKEYKEYKE" to match the length of the message.
Conversion of letters to numbers: Assign each letter of the keyword and the message a numerical value based on their position in the alphabet (A=0, B=1, C=2, and so on). In our example, "H" is 7, "E" is 4, "L" is 11, "O" is 14, "W" is 22, "R" is 17, and "D" is 3.
Encryption: Add the numerical values of the corresponding letters in the message and the keyword. If the sum exceeds 25, wrap around to the beginning of the alphabet. Repeat this process for each letter. In our example, the encrypted message would be:
Message: HELLO WORLD
Keyword: KEYKEYKEYKE
Encrypted: RSTKU NIDLP
The first letter "H" is encrypted by adding 7 (H) and 10 (K) to get 17 (R). The second letter "E" is encrypted by adding 4 (E) and 4 (E) to get 8 (S), and so on.
Decryption: To decrypt the message, use the same keyword and subtract the numerical values of the corresponding letters in the encrypted message from the keyword. If the result is negative, add 26 to get the correct value. Repeat this process for each letter. Using our example, the decryption process would be:
Encrypted: RSTKU NIDLP
Keyword: KEYKEYKEYKE
Decrypted: HELLO WORLD
The first letter "R" is decrypted by subtracting 10 (K) from 17 (R) to get 7 (H). The second letter "S" is decrypted by subtracting 4 (E) from 8 (S) to get 4 (E), and so on.
The strength of the Vigenère cipher lies in the fact that it introduces variability and complexity by using different Caesar ciphers within the same message. However, with the advent of modern computers and sophisticated cryptographic methods, the Vigenère cipher is relatively easy to break using statistical techniques if the keyword is short or weak.
I cant remember this 😅

My theory:
The phrase (7:21) "He won't be able to see, hear or communicate, he'll be practically brain dead" is somehow related to the film "Johnny Got His Gun". It's about a young soldier who gets injured during WW1 and loses his sight, speech, hearing and limbs. His only way of communication was by moving the only movable part of his body, head, and hitting it against a pillow, in a Morse code pattern, begging those around him to spare him the suffering and kill him (the previously had thought he was simply brain dead). Some of you may be very familiar with this topic, because this is the film which inspired Metallica to one of their most popular songs, "One"

this is so instructing, I wonder what Old root means by become faceless. Who is behind this mask, what does the symbol mean? What is this new mystery? Is it something from the past? That's returning?
How deep does this rabbit hole go?
This is 100% something i would do, ive been into code making and breaking, i used to (and still sometimes do) hide chipers and codes in my journal ( codes like the acsension code form Ark and obscure drawings of artifacts from games)
they might be not the oldroot I mean the person who invented these characters he is acutally

I have no idea how you edit this well this fast
Faceless Steve has the scariest past by far

just a thing, caesar cipher, not ceases, but, it just amazes me, everything, about this is, I don't have words
Maybe Edgar Allan Poe's poem "The Raven" is tied to this ARG?
(Reason why I make the connecttion is because of the account called Nevermore, a character being called The Raven, and The Raven is always watching. Although this might just be a coincidence)
You could be right, Cause the title at 4:18 is saying a line from the poem (I think, I can't remember)
i watched retrogamingnow's video on oldroot, but i'm about to watch your's now because to this day, oldroot is my favorite ARG
CAPCHA watching this: You guys are hired- in fact you're taking over our company. they keys are yours!
AMAZING. UNDERRATED. ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. Nice.
Love how you have such a professionally edited video and then there is 2:21 😂
It's good to come back after ten years
Official minecraft book, The Shipwreck seems like a less dark version of Oldroot.
i feel like im having a fever dream watching this and i love it
Alex made it then made 3 more args and forgot about it 💀
"Farting" 🗿
i found one that might be more disturbing called old minecraft reuploads
These videos are truly amazing. The editing and storytelling is very nice!
What if "He is faceless" means that in some of this images you can find a lay out of a minecraft face or sum or something writen on the steves face?
this reminds me of the cicada trials.
if i recall right. the final puzzle of cicada trials was completed. but the mysterious organization never contacted the 3 (i think it was 3) people who finished it.
puzzle started all the way back in January 2012 and ended in 2017 of april
Y’all we all gotta work together to solve the last un answered clue
This could have been the biggest rickroll in internet history
7:57 I'm like 98% sure that's the final image because OldRoot was like cancelled or something.
He gave up because no one was able to really solve it, it just became "solve puzzle to read the same words about ravens watching simulator"..it wasn't being "solved". So he gave up! The answer is in there apparently just convoluted and really tricky. He went on to create another arg that is much less over-complicated.
The "Raven" Part, In Google, is a large heavy built crow with mainly black plumage, feeding chiefly on carrion, they might be saying this large heavy built crow is watching or something else named raven is watching...
Song #1 : "perched, sat, and nothing more"
Song #2: "watching waithing"
"Become faceless", what if we take that to a literal sense? What if making your character faceless the answer?
I never thought Minecraft had a dark side

Sadly not
Because his rate of video releases is low
It is not a mistery

no one thought minecraft could get that dark...

Clues leading to new clues, leading to newer clues.
The answer is : A person with an occupation of being a miner thinks of committing suicide by jumping off a bridge, after much darkness behind his life. But he also thinks of creating his end sentence a mystery.
Seriously? Is this the actual qnswer?
The defintion of: Lol yeah loool i knew all that because i was all that
I solved the mystery:
Faceless Steve is the raven
And oldroot is the Faceless Steve and he is a computer code he is just a virus he want to show the world that a new had entered into the world
If faceless Steve is just oldroot. Then who are the other virus entity and what are their real name like oldroot.
Am I the only one who laughs when the detectives are confused and one detective is just nodding their head casually
Imagine this all lead to a rickroll
What mystery exactly seems like someone just made a pointless puzzle for people to solve for fun
we can't leave a unfinished leaf pill un turned (unfinished arg)
Wait bro
I just searched it and aaw that the vigenere written with the ^3 symbol
If you just take the vigenere word and get its meaning , it is vigenere cypher
And it showed a graph on which vigenere cypher is used
So cant they just solve the vigenere cypher first and then go and figure out what the ^3 means ?
I mean you showed a graph with random letters a little behind in the vid
At like 6:24 mark
And solve the cypher and then check what the power 3 or ^3 has to do . Right ?
I love how that code at 2:22 spells farting
bro had been planning that for 8 YEARS
dont know if the morse code (i think) at 1:43 has something hiding but it translated to:
EÐENĤN
as a game theory fan...
i think someone made a friend, raven who somehow took his face off in minecraft and then irl... like... unalived him.
That oldroot guy had like 100 codes up his sleeves 💀💀💀💀
This arg seems to have references to Edgar Allen Poe’s poem the raven, an example would be the raven in the poem is called nevermore and the person nevermore said they are watching and a common theme in this mystery is the phrase “the raven is watching”

Wait, maybe it doesnt stop there, Melon Temple? Bridge? Mineshaft? Distorted Word? (In 4:01) I think it might lead to more clues, Maybe the image was hiding something, A distorted word in the image, it had to say something, But finally, i figured it out, it says "YOU", which... Leads to nothing more mysterious, but are we really being watched? Are we really in a dream? Are we really in a rabbit hole? There's only one way to find out.... (Hint in 4:01
You are deeper, False prophits hides in the darkness, The Raven will see the answer, Those who are watching will always get deeper into the rabbit hole, You will see the Raven, We are the answer.)
0:17 just for a theory
It’s just a theory a game theory

Bro the oldroot was right "if you want to know the future you must know the past"
if all of them are images, that website owner should have access of oldroot images and investigators can ask them

imagine if all of these leads to a rickroll
