The fact OldRoot came from the same person that later on gave us "Don't Feed The Muse" amazes me. Congratulations to Alex Bale for making 2 AMAZING ARGs. Hopefully once DFTM is over he'll come back to this mystery and deliver more.
I'll have to check out the other one cause in my opinion, this particular story/mystery was kinda lame. The clues were either so convoluted that only the creator would understand them, or there just isn't enough substance behind the clues for it to be a rewarding challenge.
He said that he wasn’t planning to add any more to Oldroot because it could already be solved without him doing anything, and constantly providing clues devalued the project.
There is more to this ARG that what the video showed us. As far as I know, the creator (who was later revealed to be Alex Bale) decided to abandon the project due to the convoluted story and having to keep posting clues cuz investigators couldn't solve them. This is not to say that the ARG is bad, as it did have somewhat of a story at the start. However, that story was soon lost and the ARG turned into a waiting game for the next clue. Kudos to the creator for the effort, though.
The best part about oldroot, is that he adds deception. Unlike most ARG’s, oldroot would trick people in ways that are hard to decipher. Which is one of my favorite things about this ARG

Vigenere cipher! The Vigenère cipher is a classical encryption method that uses a series of interwoven Caesar ciphers based on a keyword. It was invented by the French cryptographer Blaise de Vigenère in the 16th century and is considered one of the strongest manual encryption techniques of its time. Here's how the Vigenère cipher works: Keyword selection: Choose a keyword, which is a word or phrase that will be used to encrypt and decrypt the message. For example, let's use the keyword "KEY". Key repetition: Repeat the keyword to match the length of the message or the part of the message you want to encrypt. If the message is longer than the keyword, repeat the keyword until it covers the entire length. In our example, if the message is "HELLO WORLD," the keyword "KEY" will be repeated as "KEYKEYKEYKE" to match the length of the message. Conversion of letters to numbers: Assign each letter of the keyword and the message a numerical value based on their position in the alphabet (A=0, B=1, C=2, and so on). In our example, "H" is 7, "E" is 4, "L" is 11, "O" is 14, "W" is 22, "R" is 17, and "D" is 3. Encryption: Add the numerical values of the corresponding letters in the message and the keyword. If the sum exceeds 25, wrap around to the beginning of the alphabet. Repeat this process for each letter. In our example, the encrypted message would be: Message: HELLO WORLD Keyword: KEYKEYKEYKE Encrypted: RSTKU NIDLP The first letter "H" is encrypted by adding 7 (H) and 10 (K) to get 17 (R). The second letter "E" is encrypted by adding 4 (E) and 4 (E) to get 8 (S), and so on. Decryption: To decrypt the message, use the same keyword and subtract the numerical values of the corresponding letters in the encrypted message from the keyword. If the result is negative, add 26 to get the correct value. Repeat this process for each letter. Using our example, the decryption process would be: Encrypted: RSTKU NIDLP Keyword: KEYKEYKEYKE Decrypted: HELLO WORLD The first letter "R" is decrypted by subtracting 10 (K) from 17 (R) to get 7 (H). The second letter "S" is decrypted by subtracting 4 (E) from 8 (S) to get 4 (E), and so on. The strength of the Vigenère cipher lies in the fact that it introduces variability and complexity by using different Caesar ciphers within the same message. However, with the advent of modern computers and sophisticated cryptographic methods, the Vigenère cipher is relatively easy to break using statistical techniques if the keyword is short or weak.

My theory: The phrase (7:21) "He won't be able to see, hear or communicate, he'll be practically brain dead" is somehow related to the film "Johnny Got His Gun". It's about a young soldier who gets injured during WW1 and loses his sight, speech, hearing and limbs. His only way of communication was by moving the only movable part of his body, head, and hitting it against a pillow, in a Morse code pattern, begging those around him to spare him the suffering and kill him (the previously had thought he was simply brain dead). Some of you may be very familiar with this topic, because this is the film which inspired Metallica to one of their most popular songs, "One"

I recently watched a different video about Oldroot’s puzzles, and I thought of you, wishing you would make a video about it. I didn’t have to wait long, apparently xd
Wait bro I just searched it and aaw that the vigenere written with the ^3 symbol If you just take the vigenere word and get its meaning , it is vigenere cypher And it showed a graph on which vigenere cypher is used So cant they just solve the vigenere cypher first and then go and figure out what the ^3 means ? He gave up because no one was able to really solve it, it just became "solve puzzle to read the same words about ravens watching simulator"..it wasn't being "solved". So he gave up! The answer is in there apparently just convoluted and really tricky. He went on to create another arg that is much less over-complicated.

The "Raven" Part, In Google, is a large heavy built crow with mainly black plumage, feeding chiefly on carrion, they might be saying this large heavy built crow is watching or something else named raven is watching...
The answer is : A person with an occupation of being a miner thinks of committing suicide by jumping off a bridge, after much darkness behind his life. But he also thinks of creating his end sentence a mystery.

I solved the mystery: Faceless Steve is the raven And oldroot is the Faceless Steve and he is a computer code he is just a virus he want to show the world that a new had entered into the world
Judging by all the clues and how they like to have hidden words and meanings. I think there is one answer. That man in the picture of the real boy with " Hello Friend " was likely him meeting someone in an unknown location. The last clue, that means the boy in that picture must have gotten his face ripped off by something. From the context I think that strange steve did that because he had blood on his face and it looks just unnatural. Could it he that boys face ? Possibly. Is it ? Probably not. Altought what The Raven is, is unknown, something ripped his face off, something was strong enough to do that. The first clue, the strange steve in the forest. Meaning that, that boy in the real life picture was possibly in front of that forest waiting to meet someone. And then the raven ripped his face off. Or did it ? " We are the answer " could there be multiple steves ? My conclusion to this puzzle : The Raven is a higher being and the steves are the answer to this whole mystery.
Wait, maybe it doesnt stop there, Melon Temple? Bridge? Mineshaft? Distorted Word? (In 4:01) I think it might lead to more clues, Maybe the image was hiding something, A distorted word in the image, it had to say something, But finally, i figured it out, it says "YOU", which... Leads to nothing more mysterious, but are we really being watched? Are we really in a dream? Are we really in a rabbit hole? There's only one way to find out.... (Hint in 4:01 You are deeper, False prophits hides in the darkness, The Raven will see the answer, Those who are watching will always get deeper into the rabbit hole, You will see the Raven, We are the answer.)

Encryption: Add the numerical values of the corresponding letters in the message and the keyword. If the sum exceeds 25, wrap around to the beginning of the alphabet. Repeat this process for each letter. In our example, the encrypted message would be:
Message: HELLO WORLD
Keyword: KEYKEYKEYKE
Encrypted: RSTKU NIDLP
The first letter "H" is encrypted by adding 7 (H) and 10 (K) to get 17 (R). The second letter "E" is encrypted by adding 4 (E) and 4 (E) to get 8 (S), and so on.
