  • This video is about the entrepreneurial journey of Saeju Jeong, the co-founder, and CEO of Noom.
    Saeju was born and raised in a small South Korean fish town called Yeosu, and he couldn't go to the medical college he wanted. He found his 1st company heavy metal music distribution company at the age of 19, but it didn't grow very well. So after his father passed away, Saeju decided to go to the world's largest market and build a great company.
    Saeju founded Noom in 2008, and for the first 8 years, he and the co-founder Artem didn't make any money, and finally, in 2016, they launched the first version of Noom, and now it has become one of the largest consumer-led healthcare brands in the United States.
    00:00 intro
    00:46 a college dropout from a fish town in South Korea
    03:15 Noom's two immigrant entrepreneurs
    07:04 keys to success in Noom's business

    I watched his other interviews where spoke Korean. I’m glad I speak both English and Korean to understand him, especially that I got to hear his experience as an immigrant in America. I’ve heard about Noom for years and never knew who was behind it. I’m so proud to see a fellow Korean making his own history which resonates with me personally too. Thanks to EO so much for producing amazing contents especially in those two languages ❤

    Sometimes I always doubted myself too. Am I right? Always asked me. After that I realized there is no right answer. Just There is making a decision and learn something from that and decision again and again... I can say this is the endless growth loop. It is the reason why I am still trying to make something to happen to be great entrepreneur beyond the good.

    Great interview, however I googled Noom right after I watched the video and I found loads of bad business practices where Noom charges customers upfront for over $100. Their renewal fee for the next year is collected 4 months before the next year even begins if you "forgot" to unsubscribe. In one case I saw that a person didn't even finish his 7-day free trial and was hit with an over $200 subscription fee with add-ons. These information are all from comments on Reddit and BBB complaints on the Internet.

    • @rosh70
      @rosh70 Рік тому +4

      That (charging customers, etc.) is more than likely driven by investors demand for revenue, revenue and more revenue. Once you go that route, it is inescapable. But, at the same time, what does an entrepreneur do? Specially, if s/he has to scale? The best businesses are built over time, brick by brick. Today, everyone's in a hurry.

    • @BIGGELATO
      @BIGGELATO Рік тому +2

      @@rosh70 investor greed is a hell of a bug bite for a business and it hurts it for a long time or until the company has another additional innovation to counter and level the hit of negative feedback from their decisions caused by investor greed. Its tough. Thing is with this business is that they are also growing extremely quick but as you can tell about this guy’s character, he looks like investors would chew him alive, dude sold his “soul”, his business, to these investors at this point. This is why he has all those negative reviews. If he grew a back bone like Elon Musk, he would gain back control over those fees and such. As you can tell from the title, this guy was working for free to build his business. Pure passion, he had a vision. But when you’re desperate for money, shit like this happens.
