      Worse would be being a failure and not even recognizing it. At least being aware of it might cause some change that could change that status. I was on autopilot for decades. Wish I had been worried about being a failure way earlier instead of just coasting with a mediocre job and playing video games and drinking every night.

      With that mindset your only going to fail. When you change it to a positive mindset and realize there’s no such thing as failure as long as you keep going forward then you’ll succeed. Other then that your searching for sympathy will only make people look at you as lesser then the infinite being you really are.

    Yes go out and build things so people like himself and other VC funds can leech their way in with crappy contracts that only benefit themselves in the end. VC funding is what has caused the silicon valley exuberance to get out of hand and as we have seen when money is no longer cheap these loss leader companies end up getting hit hard while the funds tighten the thumb screws. VC is literally a loan on top of a loan. Uber has lost money year after year since inception but the VC's got rich after IPO due to insane (by no actual book metrics, valuations). Zappos was losing money hand over fist until Amazon bought them out and Amazon only makes money off of AWS. Stripe is a payment processor - collects fees - nothing innovative but at least makes tangible money.

    I know they say focus on your strengths and build things you're curious about and that solves your problems first. But is it wise for me to start building something I'm really curious about and that solves my personal problem, if I've done my preliminary research and realized that such solution/tool already currently exists ?

    • @corail53
      @corail53 10 місяців тому +1

      Everything already exists to some degree - you just have to make a better version of it. Most of the companies this guy was in were not solving problems, most of silicon valley and tech is not solving anything - they ride the hype trains and hope they can sell their company before they have to actually make any money. If these tech companies actually had to make money instead of getting propped up by constant VC loans they would get slaughtered. So if you find you have an issue and find a solution, just find a way to make that solution easier, cheaper and better than the current solution out there and then sell it.

    Ideas matter.
    It's a bad idea to execute on bad ideas.
    Civilization is build on great, not-so-obvious ideas.
    For example, do you know what AC current is, or HOW to generate it? That was once an idea.
    Not everyone had Nikola Tesla's ideas.
    Not everyone gets to think up E=MC². You have to be a great physicist first.
    If everyone else has your idea, it just means it's probably simple and obvious; not that "Ideas don't matter."
    No amount of execution saves a terrible idea.
