"Back to the Egg" would have to be one of if not my most favourite underrated album of all time. It's definitely one of my most favourite albums of all time.
I love 'Back To The Egg', highly underrated IMHO. 1. Band On The Run 2. Back To The Egg 3. Venus And Mars 4. Wings At The Speed Of Sound 5. Red Rose Speedway 6. London Town 7. Wild Life
Love this review. Wings are one of my favorite bands too. Your ranking is excellent. Melodically McCartney's songs raised my spirit and transported me to a higher place when I would hear them on the radio in the 1970s. Just wonderful. Thanks for this.
All I know is I Wish with all my might that you were my cousin, who's also called Peter Fitzpatrick. He's was a pilot during his prime but probably is retired by now. I heard he/they were last known to reside in France. I only met him once, many years ago, and I'm so sad I lost contact with him. Now that I'm not 20 anymore, my values are completely different than as that eternal 'teenager' I thought I'd always be. Getting older and losing even older loved-ones; my biggest regret is that I didn't make a diligent effort to keep All Family Members close, and not just in my heart. The fact that my lovely parents were always there to maintain relationships with all of our British Family Members (and I just latched-on when applicable) makes me feel sheepish I've done some things wrong. Stay close to those you care about; and know that feelings can change in time. Try to love All your family! Oh, yeah, Paul's not too bad lol. Actually my admiration for him grows with time. I was interested in your opinion of their albums, so I'm here. But I have to listen again because I spent too much time making a silly comment that won't amount to anything. I ❤️Wings; especially their live shows from the 70's-fantastic! I've watched and listened to them here on UA-cam in the last year more than I ever did in all my teen years put together. 'Twas because my old friend used to Only listen to Wings...for 15 years straight! As a 10 year old - till we were 25, Wings were the background noise whenever I was in Carolyn's presence. It was my great loss that I came to appreciate Wings later than I could have. The worst part of it is that my dearest friend and I never got to share that bond when you both Love Love Love the same band at the same time. She died way before her time. That's another loved-one who's left us in deep physical pain due to her vanishing from our daily lives. So, there's Wings and more Wings and other artists to help keep us alive.
It is quite good. It didn't grab me in 80s when first got some bargain bin cassette copy, but I love it now. Maybe not enough to get that super deluxe edition bix set.
I'm a huge Macca fan, i think 2 of my five favorite songs are McCartney-songs. What a voice ! Wings have some absolute fantastic songs and I really like wings over america. That bass and those horns in silly little love songs .... !!
Thank you very much for the ranking of The Wings albums. It is always a great pleasure to listen to or watch anything positive related to Macca. Your videos help us a lot to get through these difficult times. Stay safe!
I Love RAM, it is not just my personal favourite of his solo albums but one of my all-time favourites. Love this Album and have and will continue to play over and over.
I think RAM is a masterpiece but it officially is not a Wings album. However that really isn't important as you suggest it is amazing. Almost the first Indie pop album.
The original Red Rose Speedway double album was finally issued two years ago which makes it a much better album. Little Lamb Dragonfly is an incredible “lost” gem!
"Silly Love Songs" was inspired by John Lennon when he was complaining to Paul saying that all he writes is silly love songs and not songs of importance.. John usually wrote more trouble making political type songs.. "Give Peace A Chance".. Which we should.. 😎👍 Another interesting fact is that The Ramones got their name from Paul McCartney.. 😀 Dee Dee was a big Paul McCartney fan and he knew that when Paul signed into hotels he used the surname "Ramone".. 😀 Paul Ramone.. Thus the band called "The Ramones" came about! All using the surname "Ramone".. 😀👍 Dee Dee Ramone, Johnny Ramone, Tommy Ramone.. Marky Ramone.. C.J. Ramone.. Richie Ramone.. And Joey Ramone.. If you became a Ramone member at any point your surname was "Ramone" and it's all thanks to Paul McCartney who puts on one heck of a show to this day without backtracking.. Long live rOcK and Paul McCartney.. 😀👍
Great job Pete! I grew up in the 1970s and Wings was one of my favorite bands. I remember riding my bicycle several miles to the nearest town to buy "Back To The Egg" on the day it was released. I would rate BTTE as my third favorite after BOTR and V&M. I also have a fondness for Red Rose Speedway. Not a huge fan of Speed Of Sound but it does have the underrated "Beware My Love". After your video, I need to dig out my vinyl copies of Wings Over America and BTTE to play in my home office tomorrow!
London Town was the first Wings record I heard - my dad had it in the car in Stereo8 cartridge, and Band on the Run was the first record I ever bought, and is still my favourite (together with Wings Over America).
Thanks for calling attention to a band who dominated the airwaves during the 70s. A forgotten band except for beatles and McCartney fans ,but they were all over the radio back in the 1970s
My favorite is also Wings Over America witch I think is even the best live album of all time. Here's my ranking of studio albums from worst to best but I do love them all. Wild Life Red Rose Speedway London Town Wings At The Speed Of Sound Back To The Egg Band On The Run Venus And Mars
My personal unbridled minutes of pleasure for Macca and Wings. I'm tough on these works, listened to them a lot. Only choosing the best songs: 1. Band On The Run (27) - Band On The Run, Jet, Bluebird, Let Me Roll It, 1985, Helen Wheels 2. Wild Life (21) - Love Is Strange, Wild Life, Tomorrow, Dear Friend 3. At The Speed Of Sound (17.5) - Let Em In, Beware My Love, Silly Love Songs 4. Back To The Egg (16) - Getting Closer, Spin It On, Old Siam Sir, Arrow Through Me, Rockestra Theme 5. Red Rose Speedway (8) - Big Barn Bed, My Love 6. London Town (6) - With A Little Luck 7. Venus And Mars (4) - Listen To What The Man Said
Wings was my favourite band back in the day and if push comes to shove probably still is. Rarely a week goes by without putting one of these on and this last week it's been SOS all the way. V&M was the first rock album I ever bought and I guess that or BotR were the albums you'd play if someone else is round. But I love Wildlife because it's raw and has never got over-exposed and London Town for its folkiness. I'm as likely to play these as any others. But WOA is great, particularly loud in the car!
I agree with you Pete, that Wings live album is essential and for me aside from "Venus" and "Band on the run" nothing else really lights my fire. Great reviews as always sir!
Lol, I thought I was the only one who experienced the little "skip" memory when you first heard a favorite song on compact disc. I had Peter Gabriel's "So" on cassette and in the middle of "Sledgehammer" my cassette copy had a slight fade out from it getting scrunched in my walkman. When I finally bought "So" on compact disc, it was sooooo weird hearing that song in such pristine condition! (lol)
mano1971music That was the same for me when I had Helloween’s Keeper of the Seven Keys pt 2 on cassette. When the solo would go down there was a tiny fade or scrunch sound for whatever reason, then when I bought the cd and downloaded the song, I was half expecting it to happen again, but of course I know it wasn’t. But because I’ve heard that song a million times, sometimes that little part will replay in my mind that way when the solo happens
yeah the app that would be Kick-Ass just a short little run from Eve right on through ammonia avenue and then they broke up didn't they?? kind of like dire Straits the same thing not much of a discography but killer content
Great show as usual, Pete. Funny thing about Back to the Egg. I bought the album in high school back in 1979. I basically got it for the mild hit "Arrow Through Me". And of course....it's a Wings album:) Didn't care for it. For whatever reason. Played it twice and never played it again for years. But, I recently listened to it again after literally decades. And, I now love it! A truly fine album. Not sure what I was hearing and disliking as a 16 year old Wings fan. Funny how it works out that way sometimes.
I saw Wings in Chicago in 1976 - solo Paul 6 times after that. I almost have a 3 way tie for the number 1 spot - tough to choice. This is how I choose them. 1. Venus and Mars 2. Back to the Egg 3. Band on the Run 4. Red Rose speedway 5. At the Speed of Sound 6. London Town 7. Wild Life
Venus and Mars is my favorite album, but there are two deep cuts on at the speed of sound that are absolutely phenomenal and sublime musical understatements: the note you never wrote and must do something about it
Fantastic band with genious and memorable melodies. Really miss them... Wow! My top three are the same: Band on the Run, Venus and Mars, and Wings at the Speed of Sound.
"Band on the Run" was the first album (of any artist) that I really became aware of as a work in its entirety. Prior to that it had all been singles on the radio, never an album as a whole. My older brother brought it home (I was 9, he was 17) and I fell in love with it completely. That album hasn't aged for me.
I hope you have the version of "London Town" with "Girls School" as a bonus track on it...cause you never mentioned that song when going over the tracks on that album...just curious...its a killer wings track...it rocks
Venus and Mars is by far my favorite Wings album, followed by Back to the Egg and Band on the Run. I don't think those three albums have a bad song on them. The list of songs off these three albums I consider my most favorite of Paul McCartney is too long to list here. Wild Life and At the Speed of Sound are at the bottom. Even though I rank Let 'Em In, Silly Love Songs and Beware My Love among my most favorite from Paul McCartney I find the rest of the album somewhat weak. I still don't know what Paul was trying to do with Wild Life, but I do enjoy listening to Dear Friend.
Have always loved Wings. Paul’s 70s output is great in hindsight. WOA is an undeniably classic live album. Best Wings line-up and Paul in absolute top form as a singer/bassist. Brilliant.
That's my exact order of Wings albums. I too was a huge Paul McCartney and Wings fan. I still listen to those albums. They are full of melodies and nostalgia for me.
Wings will always be one of my favorite bands and London Town is my favorite release. The album is, for me, greater than the sum of its parts. Nothing stands out especially, and only one song would make my top ten Wings songs. But the album as a whole is beautiful. It flows, it is comforting, and will always bring me joy.
Love Wings. 1. Band on Run 2. Venus and Mars 3. London Town Could you do ranking of Little Feat, Zappa (60's & 70's), Hot Tuna, Spirit, Pretty Things. Thanks for your show Pete. It helps us going through this difficult times.
I think overall Wings are underrated. They produced some of the best and most well known songs from by the 70s, but yet they are barley recognized nowadays.
Thanks. My favorite tracks are Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five, and Maybe I'm Amazed (WoA). Love Back to the Egg, especially the two Rockastra tracks, and gotta shout at Beware My Love, Time to Hide, and Soily, all underrated rockers.
Good list. Would probably rate RRS a bit higher and SOS a lot lower. Agree with Wings over America.. stellar live album. Up there with Tull’s Bursting Out and Thin Lizzy’s Live and Dangerous,
Glad you did digress about the album skipping issues. My copy of Grand Funks Were An American Band my first record had a skip right at the beginning followed by a pop. You are so right about thinking that it sounded strange to hear the cd without these. Great memories Pete!
Very much enjoying your videos during the quarantine, Pete. I smiled with the "skip of the needle" story. I had the Dylan's Greatest Hits II album on vinyl. Whenever I hear the song, "Memphis Blues Again," I have come to expect a skip at "20 pounds, pounds, pounds" of headlines....So funny how it sticks in your brain!
I love Ram more than any of the wings albums..Have the anniversary edition with two discs..You are right about Wild Life ..it stinks but for a couple tracks..
Being a completist like Pete, I bought Ram in early 80's to fill the final hole in my collection. After listening a couple times I became addicted. The melodies are so infectious, so beautiful, so amazing. I was upset with myself that I waited so long to get it! I still stand by my claim that side 2 is the best album side for McCartney, maybe anyone. I'll have to look into that anniversary edition.
I have to agree! If we were talking about all of McCartney's solo efforts, RAM is a top 5 album for sure. It's shame it got so much hate from critics and even his own ex-bandmates at the time.
Nice...my ranking list matches yours....now how about a ranking of all the Paul McCartney solo albums...starting with 1970 "McCartney " album and everything after that...do you own enough to do it?.....thanks Pete...your show is always awesome...be safe my youtube friend

I was looking for such a video a while ago and thought pete might have one, was surprised when you didn’t but glad to see this is rectified, keep up the great work man, rock on.
It's so good to hear someone being positive about Back to the Egg. Everyone seems to hate this album - but I love it! "Spin It On" is McCartney's best rock out since "Helter Skelter." "Winter Rose" is a beautiful love song. "Old Siam Sir" has a killer riff. "Again and Again and Again" showed Denny Laine was no slouch at writing songs. For me, the only disappointment was the "Rockestra Theme." With that much talent in the room, it would have been nice to hear them tackle something more complex. But it's a thoroughly enjoyable album. I'm glad someone else thinks so too. Great video as always, Pete.
Re: Rockestra, with that many musicians something complex wouldn't work, it had to be a simple melody. I think it works pretty well, and is rollicking good fun. The melody *is* slight, but as Paul usually does, extracts the max out of it. The vocal "why haven't I had any dinner" always amuses me.
@@duncandavies1966 I've been listening to this album for years and I never knew those were the words! I've just listened again and it's so obvious. Thanks, Duncan.
For my 7th birthday I got the 45 of Silly Love Songs and my first record player. My first record ever. It was a huge hit then. A couple days later my uncle bought me Kiss Alive. My first two records.
You never forget the skips in a record. I had a vinyl 'Revolver' and to this day when I play the CD I'm still expecting it to repeat the lines "She says that long ago" from the song 'For No One' indefinitely. I simply can't un-remember it.
Gotta love this one. Mine: #7 Wild life #6 Back to the Egg #5 London Town #4 Red Rose Speedway #3 Wings at the Speed of Sound #2 Band on the Run #1 Venus and Mars Btw, Joe English lives in my tiny town. Great guy. My girlfriend has met him. He stays secluded. Doesn't want fame attention.

@@truckerkevthepaidtourist That is true. He attends a church in my town. He sings in the choir and does solo singing there. He no longer plays drums due to a foot injury back in the 90s. I called the church to ask for him, and altho I personally know the pastor, Joe still did not call me back. I don't blame him. He no longer wants to answer questions about Wings or Paul. He has left it all behind. God bless him. He truly is a great person. A little more info. When he and Jimmy quit Wings, Paul was a bit miffed and very disappointed. As Paul states, Joe and that lineup were the very best Wings ever had. Joe sings one of the songs on "Speed of Sound". After Joe quit, he started a Christian band here on the east coast, cut two albums, and he attempted to send Paul a copy of those albums to let Paul know how he was doing. But the records got returned undeliverable because Paul no longer had a residence at that address. The last time Joe heard from Paul, was just a few years ago. My lawyer attends the little church where Joe goes. My lawyer told me that Paul attempted to call Joe and congrajulate him for being inducted into Joe's home state Musician's Hall of Fame. Joe did not receive or return the call. He truly just wants all of that life left behind him. I've got to say, he is a Man of God now.

Hi Pete. UK fan of your reviews here. Mentioning Tony Clarke and Denny Laine here reminds me to ask you whether you do a review of the Moody Blues discography sometime. Incidentally one of the best Wings songs is Juniors Farm which I think was only a single - great Jimmy guitar..Stay safe.
Good morning Pete. You're mentioning having albums that skip in a specific place and then how odd it was to hear them on CD without the skipping. Reminds me of when I had albums on 8 track, and then to hear them later on on CD or lp without specific songs switching tracks in the middle, and to almost be expecting a break in a song at a specific point without it happening.
I've passed the whole summer of 2022 listening to Wings. Time well spent, great group. 1. Red Rose Speedway (the medley makes this album the best Wings album; such a shame it came out as a single album. The tracks on the Archive Collection are great. Who knows what a great double album could have been) 2. Band on the Run (perfect run, except for Mamunia) 3. London Town (a great LP, Morse Moose is my favourite Wings track, strangely proggy for a Macca song) 4. Venus and Mars (great numbers like Rock Show, Magneto and Titanium Man, Letting Go...) 5. Wings at the Speed of Sound (this contains my third Wings favourite song, Time to Hide, Denny Laine is on fire, what a harmonic solo) 6. Wild Life (pretty good, underrated numbers like Mumbo, Bip Bop and Some People Never Know) 7. Back to the Egg (not a good album, at least for side two, side one is solid)
Also, I remember my Mom driving me up to the Warehouse (Records) to replace my ELO , “Out Of The Blue” 3 times, on 8 track....I was 15 yrs old at the time..my 1st Album was.....Pink Floyd , WYWH, came from a large family, sooooo...TDSOTM....was already in our house. 1st Cassette was DSOTM 1st 8 track..Led Zeppelin, “ Physical Graffiti” 1st used LP was Bad Finger “ Straight Up” paid 100.00 in 1984 as it was out of print for quite sometime, you could possibly find it under the IVEY’s , however, not quite the same. Thanks for another great show!!! Gerry
Wings were the band I was obsessed with growing up in the 70s and though later my taste would broaden out to many other artists etc I still play their music reasonably regularly. I'm still a massive fan Macca to this day. Pete, I was lucky enough to see Wings live in 1979 here in the UK and it was my first gig ever at 15 years of age. 1- BACK TO THE EGG 2- LONDON TOWN 3- VENUS AND MARS 4- RED ROSE SPEEDWAY 5- BAND ON THE RUN 6- WINGS AT THE SPEED OF SOUND 7- WILD LIFE My top three come in and out of being a fav but they're the ones I play the most. Band On The Run is classic but it's just so over-familiar now that's why it's so low on my list.
Your skip story is great and relatable - it still feels weird when I am listening to high quality rips and I don’t hear the big pops on the fadeout of “Battle of Evermore “ or whatever ...
One of my first 8 Track tapes. I bought with my measly “ paper route $$$- was BAND on the RUN/. I remember being psyched walking home with the 7 or 8 of us from JR HIGH / knowing in a few minutes/ I would be playing that 8 track. I wore it out. Special memories! So/ I gotta go that as my no# 1. Nothing but positive memories of Wings. I was a little kid in 70s, and Wings was one of the first bands I listened to. They were my introduction to the Beatles, actually. I know a lot Beatles fans give them a bad rap, but honestly, I’ve never understood why. Paul wrote some unbelievably catchy songs, and I agree, look no further than Over America. I played that to death! Every song on there is great. And I can’t think of ‘76-‘77 radio without hearing Let ‘Em In. It seemed to always be on! And were the other Beatles doing anything better? They all had moments throughout the 70s, but none nearly as versatile or numerous as Paul.
Wings were utterly amazing, I don’t care what anyone says. Paul deserves all his accolades, and his solo career was my favorite of all The Beatles although I love them all.
I think you nailed this list Pete. Joe English was my favorite drummer he had but all of his groups kicked ass. Like I said I feel this list was perfectly picked.
I agree about Wings Over America- one of my favourite ever albums. I would rank the albums very similar. Don’t let it bring you down is a great track from London Town.
My list includes my two favorite tracks from the albums: 7. London Town ("I'm Carrying", "I've Had Enough") 6. Wings At The Speed of Sound ("She's My Baby", "Time To Hide" 5. Wild Life ("Wild Life", "Dear Friend") 4. Band On The Run ("Band On The Run", "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five") 3. Red Rose Speedway ("One More Kiss", "Get On The Right Thing") 2. Venus and Mars ("Rock Show", "Treat Her Gently/Lonely Old People") 1. Back To The Egg ("Old Siam, Sir", "Baby's Request")
I know what you mean about vinyl record skips! My dad used to tell me about that and how he had certain songs engrained in his mind, skips and all! He would often cite 'We Can Work it Out' by the Beatles, as one such song. Don't remember any Wings tunes but I will go listen to his vinyl copy of Back to the Egg and see if it skips like yours does! He bought it when it came out as well. I agree with your list, spot on!
Huge fan! MY very first 45 RPM single purchase? LISTEN TO WHAT THE MAN SAID, in 1974, i was 9. My uncle had all the albums , along with Beatles, which i borrowed ALL the time. Wings Over AMerica is CLASSIC....SOILY was one of the heaviest WINGS tracks ever. Especially cool on the video with lazers, smoke, lights, etc. 1) Venus and Mars 2_ Band on the Run 3) Back to the Egg 4_ London Town
Fave musician of all...got into wings before the beatles . I was born in 74 so I missed the beatle era. Obviously I went back and they eventually became my favorite band, but the initial attraction to anything beatle related was Paul during his wings era
I absolutely agree that Wings Over America was their best LP. They always sounded better live than in the studio. Having said that, their studios albums were still pretty good.
One Viewer mentioned The Alan Parsons Project..one of my top 5...leaving “ Eye In The Sky Aside” it was “ The Turn Of A Friendly Card” that tops my list...with so many more great ones to follow and a few that preceded..So many great vocalists with that band and Eric Wolfson , a beautiful voice indeed...kinda like listening to Pilot, Camel and Ambrosia all together, just to name a few:-)
Your segment about vinyl albums skipping at the same time every time rings so true. For me it was the Rush album Permanent Waves and the song The Spirit of Radio. When it got to this section: *"One likes to believe in the freedom of music* *But glittering prizes and endless compromises* *Shatter the illusion of integrity, yeah"* On my record player it always skipped the word "music". How ironic is that? So when I bought the album on CD and it didn't skip it was a bit weird. Go figure ;-)
I have Band on the Run,Venus and Mars and Back to the Egg. So Glad to See You Here is one of my most favorite Wings songs.Hard rockin and Paul's voice sounded so edgy and raspy, which was great to my ears.
Yep I agree with Band on the Run definitely. I used to have a bunch of those 45s like Jet, Band on the Run, Helen little wheels, and Junior's Farm I love that song. I think I was in seventh grade when that album came out.

I agree about Wings Over America. It's one of my favourite live albums. Band On The Run and Venus and Mars are both excellent.
London Town was the first Wings record I heard - my dad had it in the car in Stereo8 cartridge, and Band on the Run was the first record I ever bought, and is still my favourite (together with Wings Over America).
Band on the Run was also the first record I bought, in 1974 with money from my 12th birthday. Thank you for triggering that memory!
Thanks for calling attention to a band who dominated the airwaves during the 70s. A forgotten band except for beatles and McCartney fans ,but they were all over the radio back in the 1970s
Many people will know Live and Let Die but will think it is a Guns and Roses song!
Their songs are huge and they have stood the test of time, any real music knower respects them dearly.
My favorite is also Wings Over America witch I think is even the best live album of all time.
Here's my ranking of studio albums from worst to best but I do love them all.
Wild Life
Red Rose Speedway
London Town
Wings At The Speed Of Sound
Back To The Egg
Band On The Run
Venus And Mars
Wings Over America...agreed number one..everybody should have a copy...
My personal unbridled minutes of pleasure for Macca and Wings. I'm tough on these works, listened to them a lot. Only choosing the best songs:
1. Band On The Run (27) - Band On The Run, Jet, Bluebird, Let Me Roll It, 1985, Helen Wheels
2. Wild Life (21) - Love Is Strange, Wild Life, Tomorrow, Dear Friend
3. At The Speed Of Sound (17.5) - Let Em In, Beware My Love, Silly Love Songs
4. Back To The Egg (16) - Getting Closer, Spin It On, Old Siam Sir, Arrow Through Me, Rockestra Theme
5. Red Rose Speedway (8) - Big Barn Bed, My Love
6. London Town (6) - With A Little Luck
Pete, all of your recent videos have made my quarantine adventure much more tolerable!
Wings over America! Wore that album out
Since you mentioned Alan Parsons as engineer on a couple of albums, how about a ranking the studio albums of the Alan Parsons Project?
yeah the app that would be Kick-Ass just a short little run from Eve right on through ammonia avenue and then they broke up didn't they??
kind of like dire Straits the same thing not much of a discography but killer content
I’ve been asking for this for a while
Rick May is like to see that ! 👍
I’m going to guess that Pete is not a fan.
APP did 10 albums including the last unofficial one being Freudiana from 1990. One of their best.
Memory almost full, chaos and creation in the backyard... are among his best albums
I saw Wings in Chicago in 1976 - solo Paul 6 times after that. I almost have a 3 way tie for the number 1 spot - tough to choice. This is how I choose them.
1. Venus and Mars
2. Back to the Egg
3. Band on the Run
4. Red Rose speedway
5. At the Speed of Sound
6. London Town
7. Wild Life
I went to that Wings over America concert in 1976 at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. One of the best concerts I've ever been to.
Fav lp..Wings Over America..fav studio lp...Venus and Mars
Wings will always be one of my favorite bands and London Town is my favorite release. The album is, for me, greater than the sum of its parts. Nothing stands out especially, and only one song would make my top ten Wings songs. But the album as a whole is beautiful. It flows, it is comforting, and will always bring me joy.
Red Rose Speedway the very underated album from McCartney!
Good listing Pete! Love yer show. You do a great job man. All the best
I definitely agree about WINGS OVER AMERICA
BAND ON THE RUN definitely best studio
Love Wings. 1. Band on Run 2. Venus and Mars 3. London Town
Could you do ranking of Little Feat, Zappa (60's & 70's), Hot Tuna, Spirit, Pretty Things.
Thanks for your show Pete. It helps us going through this difficult times.
Thanks for this....agree with you that Wings Over America shows the band at their best
Happy to see you do this countdown Pete.
I think overall Wings are underrated. They produced some of the best and most well known songs from by the 70s, but yet they are barley recognized nowadays.
Totally agree!!
Up there with Tull’s Bursting Out and Thin Lizzy’s Live and Dangerous,
I LOVE "Wild Life". Its so crazy partially.
margus kiis Hence the title.
Growing up in the 70's I had London town, At the speed of sound and Wings over America plus various singles.
The 'All the Best!' compilation in the 80s introduced me to some of the songs.
wings over america is awesome it is my favourite live album
'Arrow Through Me' was used on the opening of the 1980 Chevy Chase (and Benji) movie 'Oh Heavenly Dog'.
Glad you did digress about the album skipping issues. My copy of Grand Funks Were An American Band my first record had a skip right at the beginning followed by a pop. You are so right about thinking that it sounded strange to hear the cd without these. Great memories Pete!
Damn my man been busy today! Love the show, keep up the great work!
Nope, I don't.
@@seaoftranquilityprog I live in Missouri...kinda wish I lived in Hudson valley....cause I could easily do that....got em all man...I'd let you borrow all my Paul McCartney solo albums on disc so you could show them all and do the show...lol
I was looking for such a video a while ago and thought pete might have one, was surprised when you didn’t but glad to see this is rectified, keep up the great work man, rock on.
Thank you Pete , now more then ever.
Oh Man i Love LITTLE LAMB/ DRAGONFLY , a song with emotion and harmonizing awesome love Wings and McCartneys solo ... Thanx PETE !!
Mine:
#7 Wild life
#6 Back to the Egg
#5 London Town
#4 Red Rose Speedway
#3 Wings at the Speed of Sound
#2 Band on the Run
#1 Venus and Mars
Btw, Joe English lives in my tiny town. Great guy. My girlfriend has met him. He stays secluded. Doesn't want fame attention.
didn't Joe do like the late Dan peek, Mark Farner for a little bit, David pack of ambrosia, John schlitt from Head East, and in a Way Kerry L from Kansas? become a born-again rocker
@@andyparton3755 cool where is he at Virginia or North Carolina. glad he's okay with himself that's the main thing
@@truckerkevthepaidtourist Spindale, NC. Btw, my gal bumped into him at our local Food Lion grocery store. She said he was very polite and gracious. She asked him no questions about Paul or Wings. She just told him she admired him and that she and I had researched him.
Good job Pete. In a world gone crazy we all need these little islands of pleasure.
Who knows what a great double album could have been)
2. Band on the Run (perfect run, except for Mamunia)
3. London Town (a great LP, Morse Moose is my favourite Wings track, strangely proggy for a Macca song)
4. Venus and Mars (great numbers like Rock Show, Magneto and Titanium Man, Letting Go...)
5. Wings at the Speed of Sound (this contains my third Wings favourite song, Time to Hide, Denny Laine is on fire, what a harmonic solo)
6. Wild Life (pretty good, underrated numbers like Mumbo, Bip Bop and Some People Never Know)
Gerry
Love the Wings. "Wings Over America" and "Greatest" = Essential.
The Wings? How about The Pink Floyd, or The Led Zeppelin?
Wings were the band I was obsessed with growing up in the 70s and though later my taste would broaden out to many other artists etc I still play their music reasonably regularly. I'm still a massive fan Macca to this day. Pete, I was lucky enough to see Wings live in 1979 here in the UK and it was my first gig ever at 15 years of age.
1- BACK TO THE EGG
2- LONDON TOWN
3- VENUS AND MARS
4- RED ROSE SPEEDWAY
5- BAND ON THE RUN
6- WINGS AT THE SPEED OF SOUND
7- WILD LIFE
My top three come in and out of being a fav but they're the ones I play the most. Band On The Run is classic but it's just so over-familiar now that's why it's so low on my list.
You got to see them up close!! I adore Wings but I was born a year after they broke up so I missed my chance 😭
Your skip story is great and relatable - it still feels weird when I am listening to high quality rips and I don’t hear the big pops on the fadeout of “Battle of Evermore “ or whatever ...
'Beware My Love' from Wings at the Speed of Sound has to be the most underrated song by Macca & Wings.
I love that song. So many songs nobody talks about anymore but really should!
Saw the wings over America tour...in Chicago...amazing...and then the triple album..
Thx PETE
Red rose speedway......fantastic......love it.
man pete on your recommendation i listened to back to the egg and i must say its my second favorite wings album. man i wish i gave it the time of day years ago. i had to buy it off amazon music. it was only 7.99 digital. thanks for turning me on to it dude!
I have London Town, Band On the Run and more.🎤🎸🎵🥁
Nothing but positive memories of Wings.
Nice shirt. The back cover art of UFO Phenomenon.
Hi Pete do you have any prog rock albums from Down Under - Australia? Especially from the 70's? Would you do a video on this possibly?
Junior's Farm may be Wings finest moment. Thanks Pete!
I love Band on the Run, Wings over America- and I think Back to the Egg is usually underrated by everyone, I really like that album. My top three.
I agree about Wings Over America- one of my favourite ever albums. I would rank the albums very similar. Don’t let it bring you down is a great track from London Town.
My list includes my two favorite tracks from the albums:
7. London Town ("I'm Carrying", "I've Had Enough")
6. Wings At The Speed of Sound ("She's My Baby", "Time To Hide"
5. Wild Life ("Wild Life", "Dear Friend")
4. Band On The Run ("Band On The Run", "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five")
3. Red Rose Speedway ("One More Kiss", "Get On The Right Thing")
2. Venus and Mars ("Rock Show", "Treat Her Gently/Lonely Old People")
Just find your channel ! Super cool !
Pete-I just sported that UFO shirt a few days ago...….and man it felt good!
1) Venus and Mars
2_ Band on the Run
3) Back to the Egg
4_ London Town
Love wings that being said..Flowers in the dirt is a return to form for Paul. And his band from 'Back in the USA' ....is amazing!
I really think you should start including the live albums in these rankings they are often the best versions.
Soily totally kills.
When it got to this section:
*"One likes to believe in the freedom of music*
*But glittering prizes and endless compromises*
*Shatter the illusion of integrity, yeah"*
On my record player it always skipped the word "music".
