I’ve really grown to love this guy. The Lord of Dad Rock! We don’t always share the same taste in music, but he always gets me spending an hour on Spotify after each video. Infectious
Yeah man. I'm 52 and Pete got me into a lot of bands that were around and pretty big in my day but just never went deep into their catalogs. Jethro Tull, UFO, Thin Lizzy are just 3 of many I never went hard on before. I've gone to cover to cover of every album on tull and thin lizzy and I'm a freak with them now. So many others and new stuff too.
MrAitraining I’m 53 but have never been into Dad Rock with the exception of Sabbath. (They began about five miles from where I live). Probably everything else but Dad Rock. But Pete has got me now owning all of the Whitesnake, most of Purple, some Tull, and some Queen. Am quite happy about that
@@zugnam Its first side of the cd is white side and the other is dark side. Both sides have songs that create atmosphere and theme which correspond to colour they are on.
I rank Innuendo at the top spot. It’s simply pure genius. A direct return to queens roots type of kick ass rock’n roll. Every single song on it is great, there’s rockers, some proggish and epic ballads, basically every facet of music style that represents queen is on Innuendo. Also it is without a doubt the best farewell album going out on top by any band. Considering Freddie’s failing health props to him struggling during the 2 years that it took to get the album finished he literally was starring death in the eye and vowed to work till he dropped. Listening to this masterpiece you would never know that he was so seriously ill and close to death he was a sheer professional to the end.
@@antonbarkland2194 I’m so torn about the Show Must go on. Love the song and it’s great as a closer. But personally I’d like These Are the Days Of our Lives better as the closer. It would be a more subtle, beautiful exit to Freddie.
Not a fan of the first 2 albums...don't hate them just prefer their more hummable stuff...otherwise largely agree (though would've placed the works higher)🎩
I would say definitely should own deluxe first album great alternative versions. The rest of deluxe series don't have much to offer at best a couple non album b.sides.
Father to son is great and leads perfectly to white Queen. Some day one day and loser in the end are good side dishes to diversify the genres and vibes of the album. But Freddie’s half is on another level from top to bottom. Black Queen, master stroke, ogre battle. God this record is great
Very good. I'd put Night At The Opera at 4 (Sweet Lady and Prophet's Song, among others) and News Of The World at 5 (It's Late being the best song of all time). Your top three are spot on. But can you imagine doing this in 30 years with Justin Beiber albums?
despite the fact that I can truly enjoy "Innuendo" album, since it is definitely one of those better 80's albums from the band, I truly doubt it is their second best...... infact, any 70's is better in my opinion, cause back in the 70's, they were spitting out one masterpiece after another....... on the other hand, I strongly agree "Queen II" being their very best...... not only their best album, but certainly one of the greatest albums of all time in general...... pretty much a flawless record...... and the first album was also a hell of a debut
Sheer Heart Attack is so cool. Such artistry. Near the end the ballad "She Makes Me" really stands out and how the finale goes out with a heavy breathing inhale. Gets you every time.
This is one of my favorite UA-cam series. I’ve got so many albums, but for the ones I’m missing, this is the best guide to what’s good (and what sucks). Great critical commentary!
Same here! I use Pete´s videos, along with similar uploads by other UA-camrs, as buying guides. It comes in especially handy when my own imagination is running low.
I can't pick a best but Innuendo is up at the top with some of the other greats for me too. I believe if someone doesn't like All God's People they have no soul :) Truly inspired.
A top five all time favorite band.. 1- Queen II one of the greatest albums ever made. 2- Queen 1 what a debut 3- Sheer Heart Attack 4- Night at the Opera 5- Day at the Races- very underrated 6- All the rest except Hot Space🥺
100% agree with your list.......after this it felt like they were chasing anthems......when Killer Queen is your first intro to this band, everything after your number 5 is a drop off
It surprises me that Night at the Opera isn’t everyone’s favourite. People on this channel sure like 1 and 2 ... I’ll give them another listen but Day at the races always seemed like their other perfect album
Excellent overview. What often gets forgotten is all four of them were writers and each of them wrote hits. Very rare, but good for each of them to have a future royalty stream!
Sometimes it's the obvious one: A Night at the Opera. I may be prejudiced because I got my copy signed by the band in early '76 when they appeared at Strawberries in Boston before their show at the Music Hall. It's my most prized possession.
me too ... then it is hard to decide ... maybe 2. Queen 2, 3. A night at the opera ... and very hard to decide later. I dont like that much only Hot space and Miracle, but both contains great songs ...
When Freddie hit that high "Shoooooooow" at the end of The Show Must Go On (Brian was worried he might not even be able to sing it), it was the end of the album and for all intents and purposes the end of Freddie and the end of Queen. To end on possibly the greatest single note ever sung in rock is one hell of a way to go.
A friend of my mum (a Mr. Harding) lived in the same road as Roger Taylor and his mum. When Queen had recorded 'Queen I' he came to his house to tell Mr. Harding that he was in a new band and they were releasing their first album. He knocked on Mr. Harding's door, who opened it to see Roger, John Deacon and Brian May on his doorstep. True story, and when Mr. Harding told me my mouth was open and I'm convinced my jaw was on the floor.
Firstly I just want to say I absolutely love Hot Space.i got into it when I was in my early twenties. The song, Staying Power, the driving bass and the pace of it just made me feel really happy and I just love the difference of it all.i love music that moves me and feeds my soul that's why I love this channel.anyway my albums in an interchangeable list are A night at the opera Queen 2 Queen Sheer Heart Attack A Day At the Races The Game News of the World Jazz The Works A kind of Magic The Miracle Innuendo Cosmos Rocks Hot Space Made in Heaven Love them all, some I play more than others.i just think Queen was,are pure music and Magic 👍🌹
I need to listen to some more Queen albums soon, I love the first 4 but only heard a few songs from the rest. I really don't know if I could pick a favourite between Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack and A Night at the Opera!
1- Queen II - absolute genius, various unknown gems in it 2- Sheer Heart Attack 3- Innuendo 4- A Day at the Races 5- Queen 6- A Night at the Opera 7- News of the World 8- The Game 9- Jazz 10- A Kind of Magic
I love the guitar on "It's Late" so much that I tried to get a band I was in to cover it. We got the arrangement OK, but couldn't get anyone who could sing it.
It's Late is a killer track, and so very underrated. It has the highest note on a Queen studio album E6. I love that guitar riff, there are some great drumming moment, and Freddie's voice is absolutely amazing on that song. Have you seen this cover? It is quite good, but James Labrie is not quite Freddie Mercury. (James Labrie did skip over the E6 note) ua-cam.com/video/g3uXs6KOspY/v-deo.html
I have a friend (who was a singer) who used to dismiss Queen... until he tried to sing "It's Late". He put the respect in it's rightful place very quickly after that... :D
This channel has introduced me to so much music that I have missed in my life. I have an Amazon music playlist called Sea of Tranquillity where I continue to add suggestions from Pete. My favorite “discoveries” are Gabriel era Genesis, pre 80’s Yes and King Crimson. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us Pete!
Another good one , Pardo! Just this morning , i decided to grab something, i havent listened to in awhile, on the way to work, and i grabbed the SHEER HEART ATTACK cd. TURNED UP LOUD, i forgot how good it was, NOW, IM HERE! BRIGHTON ROCK!
I think the 1st 5 Queen Albums are the essential Queen Albums. Especially the 1st 3 Albums. Queen 1, Queen 2 & Sheer Heart Attack are absolute killer. Represents Queen at their best.
Almost fully in agreement except for Q2 which is my favorite since I first heard it back in the early 80's. And "The March of The Black Queen" is also my favorite Queen track. Thanks for the great reviews!
Great list again Pete. Provs once more that you have excellent taste. ........ My top 5: 1. Queen 2. Queen II 3. A Day At The Races 4. A Night At The Opera 5. Sheer Heart Attack
Sheer Heart Attack is my favorite Queen album. However, overall I agree with your top four. They are all right up there as masterpieces and on any given day interchangeable.
During one of my Nephew's visits, I asked him if he liked Queen. He said he did and mentioned he had their greatest hits album. So, I proceeded to blow his mind by playing all of Queen for him. He didn't realize there were other singers in the band besides Freddy. Now, he's a REAL Queen fan!
Table of Content (Cause I'm Lazy): 15. Hot Space - 00:01:35 14. Made In Heaven - 00:02:42 13. The Cosmos Rocks - 00:03:47 12. The Miracle - 00:05:13 11. A Kind Of Magic - 00:06:38 10. The Works - 00:07:45 9. Innuendo - 00:08:47 8. The Game - 00:10:52 7. News Of The World - 00:12:38 6. Jazz - 00:14:32 5. A Day At The Races - 00:16:41 4. Queen 2 - 00:17:47 3. Sheer Heart Attack - 00:19:50 2. Queen - 00:21:01 1. A Night At The Opera - 00:21:55
Everybody has their blind spots, bands or artist that one should like but cannot connect to for reasons unknown. I heard Killer Queen back in 1974 and went out to buy Sheer Heart Attack. I played it for a while but soon forgot about it. Then came Bohemian Rhapsody and of course I loved it and some other songs on the album were good as well. All the other records I listened to but never cared much about. The hits that came on the radio, they never meant anything to me. It is not that I hate them or never tried to find out why they are so great, I did many times. The magic spark never hit me. Tragic, but since there is so many other good music around I survived to this day. My list is short. 1. A Night at the Opera (the only Queen album I still listen to from time to time) 2. Sheer Heart Attack 3. Queen (First) PS - Paul Rodgers is one of my favourite singers since the days of Free in the early 70s. His Free, Bad Co, Firm and solo stuff is great but the Queen album was one big disappointment, I have no idea why he did it.
Omg I forgot how bad Cosmic Rocks is....gone are all the best aspects of Queen to be replaced by forgettable pub rock blues...thankfully John Deacon knee better than get involved with that nonsense
Queen is one my favorite rock bands ever. Luckly in my country (Brazil), every record was released. Queen II is just insane. I love the deep cut Father to son and The Lose In The End, by Roger Taylor. Fantastic.
Innuendo is one of my fave albums of all time. What a badass album from start to finish. My Top 10 of Queen are: 1- Innuendo, 2- The Miracle, 3- The Game, 4- A Kind of Magic, 5- A Day At The Races, 6- Sheer Heart Attack, 7- Queen 2, 8- A Night At The Opera, 9- Debut, 10- News Of The World
@@GrahamS67 I think Delilah, as a slow but uplifting song, makes a good bridge between the melancholic atmosphere of These Are The Days of Our Lives and the Heavy Rock of The Hitman.
@@LuchaLibertaria it honestly pleases me that someone gets something out of the song. That's what I love about music, that it has a varied appeal. For me it's a bit of a joke, but that's just me.
Totally agree that this is a difficult task: ranking the albums. I loved this band growing up, still listen to those 70s albums, especially Queen I - Liar is an amazing song. Your ranking reminded me how uniquely diverse this band was - News of the World is a great example of the various tastes and styles of music they could create and play flawlessly - all within one album. They are in a league of their own.
Great list. I can understand the problem with first ranks. My list would be: 1. Sheer Heart Attack A total work of art. Tenement Funster, Flick of the wrist and lily of the valley with the seamless transitions would be sufficient for first rank. Not a single bad track on the album. 2. A Night at the Opera Close second. 39 and Prophet's song are genius, but I hate sweet lady and You're my best friend is kind of boring. So 2nd. 3. Queen II White queen, Ogre Battle, The March of the black queen. Need I say more? 4. Jazz The last really great album until Innuendo. Mustapha is so much fun. 5. Innuendo I'm going slightly mad, These are the days of our lives, The show must go on and the corresponding videos are just heartbreaking. 6. Made in Heaven Yes, it is slower and not as extrovert as the others. But Freddie knew, he was slowly diyng and still recorded great songs like Mother love or Made in Heaven. Maybe musically not up there with the others, but a very decent goodbye and Freddies voice still gives me chills. „I long for peace before I die“
Hi Pete, I remember in the 80’s a buddy and mine would have an album of the year! And we would go up into the Mountains of L.A. get wasted with Johnny Walker Red.....from 1980 to 89’ The Alan Parsons Project took 3 of those years, I guess I was a bit partial..lol. Thanks for your GREAT SHOWs ....Rock on:-)
Fantastic review! Love the band. Saw them at knebworth in 86. Will see them again in June . My favourite album is probably the debut. It’s just so raw !
“The works” is my absolute favorite album. Second place is either “innuendo” or “a day at the races”. Third is “a kind of magic”. Then all the other ones. I love them all
1) A Day At The Races (1976) 2) News Of The World (1977) 3) A Night At The Opera (1975) 4) Jazz (1980) 5) Sheer Heart Attack (1974) 6) The Game (1980) 7) Queen II (1974) 8) Queen (1973)
I love this band so much, that pretty much every album position except my last two are bound to change. The only albums I'm ambivalent on are my last two ranked, even though they're fun as a novelty for me. I'm also not counting the Paul Rodgers one, just because I've never listened to it. My list: 1. News of the World 2. Sheer Heart Attack 3. The Game 4. Queen 5. Jazz 6. Queen II 7. Innuendo 8. A Night At The Opera 9. The Works 10. A Day At The Races 11. Hot Space 12. Miracle 13. Some Kind Of Magic 14. Flash Gordon 15. Made In Heaven
The links between the Sex Pistols and Queen were incredible! Apparently,Sid Vicious and Freddie became friends (I think Fred wanted a bit more!...) I grew up with both bands, which is quite ironic in itself! Glad you done a review of the band who are so beloved over here in England... A review of The Faces/Small Faces,or,The Who would be amazing (hint!) Great video as always! Best regards Pete! S
Fantastic job, Pete. This IS just like talking to friends about our favorite bands. Queen provided the soundtrack of my teen years, and I have had the pleasure of seeing them live supporting the Night at the Opera album. They are a true original.
Ok Pete, Queen are one of my favourite bands and I've been into them since the 70s. So here goes.... 1. Sheer heart attack 2. News of the world 3. Jazz 4. Queen II 5. Night at the opera 6. Queen (debut) 7. The game 8. Day at the races 9. Innuendo 10. The works 11. The miracle 12. A kind of magic 13. Cosmic rocks 14. Made in heaven 15. Flash 16. Hot space 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
1. A Night at the Opera 2. Queen II 3. Queen 4. Sheer Heart Attack 5. Innuendo 6. Jazz 7. A Day at the Races 8. News of the World 9. The Game These are the albums I bought, so I know them well enough. I never bought The Game although I know the whole record. Live at the Rainbow is a great live album. The Sheer Heart Attack tour. Man, they were a helluva band. Great job Pete. As usual ! I do like some of the songs they did in the 80's. Innuendo was special. I agree 100% that it was a great album for Freddie to go out on. Inspiring and essential in my book.
I'm so glad that you mentioned "that Leroy Brown song". One of my favorites. The live version from "Live at the Rainbow" (1974) is a "sort but sweet" true gem.
"Hot Space, a Hot mess" lol! I actually like several songs on it. Easily one of my favorite bands. Great king rat probably my favorite song off the first album. Brian May one of my favorite guitarist and Probably has my favorite guitar tone. Favorite Queen album is probably a night at the Opera. Although a couple of others are a close second.
I have always been a huge Prog lover but I never been a big fan of Queen. They just never clicked for me. I dig their diversity and the musicianship, and Mercury's range but except for the second album and 'News' I have never really give them much thought. That said 'Innuendo' is a brilliant album. What a Swan Song by Mercury, saying his farewells knowing he wasn't long for the world. I love this album... excellent Prog.
@@EastmanD Eastman D I beg to differ, they are very Prog and you are wrong that they were never considered to be a Progressive Rock band. This isn't 'genre mish-mash' unless you don't understand what Progressive Music is in which case I can understand the error. They incorporated Classical, Jazz, Gospel and Opera to a Rock sensibility which is exactly the variations that make them Prog. You don't think 'Bohemian Rhapsody' isn't Prog? Just Like Eric Burdon's War on 'Declares War' and War's 'World is a Ghetto'. Eric Burdon created the band as a vehicle to combine rock, funk, classical, jazz and country into a musical form...which I exactly what Progressive music is. I could even cite Marshall Tucker Band to be Prog, combining Country, Western (yes there is a difference) Rock, and Jazz. But then I have only been listening to Prog since the late 60's so maybe I am mistaken.
@@awickedtribe Yes you're mistaken. You confusing the terms. My use of mish-mash was spot on, considering your mish-mash of an answer. If you want to believe that most of the music you listen to, is progressive (note the small "P") that's fine. Many bands can be considered "progressive" by blending different styles of music. But the use of the term "a Prog Rock band" was not used for bands like Queen, Led Zeppelin, the Who and on and on. War ? Marshall Tucker ?? Man, please.... go to your browser and type... Is Queen Prog a prog rock band ? Queen definitely had many characteristics of progressive rock and certainly sounded the part in some of their songs. However, their themes were pop-oriented with influences of gospel, blues, and symphonic rock also forming a part of their style. ... Ultimately they were a hard rock and pop band. That by the way is from Quora.com...take it up with them...
Hi Pete, I'm addicted to your show. I just discovered it about 2 weeks ago and it's all I watch. A music junkie myself I'm glad I found it. I've watched dozens of your videos and I agree with so many of your top ten lists it's uncanny. However, I feel you're missing a lot of bands that deserve some mention. I would love if you did a show on Stratovarius, Masterplan, At Vance, Heavenly, Angra, Derdian, Sonata Arctica, Excalion, Blind Guardian, Twilightning and Royal Hunt. These bands sound like Iron Maiden, Yngwie Malmsteen, Queen, Uriah Heep and Black Sabbath all rolled into one. If you haven't listened to them check them out and in the meantime I'll still be watching your channel and enjoying every minute. Peace! RJ
Queen has always been one of my favourite Rock bands and Freddie Mercury was the ultimate artist, equally great as a singer, songwriter and performer. You really can't beat A Night At The Opera and is my favourite Queen album but virtually all the others are good also! The quirky Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy may be my favourite cut.
being a huge QUEEN fan since the 70s your top picks of the BEST QUEEN albums were pretty spot on!! I absolutely LOVED this Episode about a band that is very near & dear to my heart....and a very unique band as well (as you so eloquently pointed out)...I feel very fortunate to have seen QUEEN a couple of times in their heyday here is Detroit at the most famous COBO ARENA...I enjoy your channel very much !!!
@@maelperez1567 unfortunately no ...back in those days it was very difficult to bring or sneak a camera or any kind of recording device in with you because everyone was searched ......you were just lucky you were there!! had crappy seats anyway ..
I've watched several of your ranking videos of the bands I really dig and our picks are identical. When I was in AIT back in the early 90's I made a bunch of guys in my platoon Queen fans by playing them A Night at the Opera. AMAZING album from Queen. Thank you so much for doing these Pete!
My 6 Favourite Albums: 6- A Day At The Races. 5- News Of The World. 4- Jazz (Super Underrated). 3- A Night At The Opera. 2- The Miracle (Jazz, Hold My Beer). 1- Innuendo!!!!!
I enjoyed your review, Pete, especially when you single out some of the really good songs. Most have to be in agreement with them because they simply standout. As to my list, I cannot do it. I feel so inar, inar, inar, inar, inarticulate.
Great ranking Pete I would have a hard time listing my top 5 but I would have to include News of the World in that top 5 as it's one of my all time favorite Queen albums although We will Rock You/Champions are probably the most overplayed Queen songs. NATO is also a musical masterpiece never tire of listening to that LP.
My favorite álbum from them is also "A Night at the Opera", and you did mention "Seaside Rendezvous", which is one of my three favorites. But you forgot to mention "Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon", which has my favorite Brian May solo of all time (at the end of the song), and one of my favorite Queen songs of all time: "Good Company".
Another great vlog. Hitting 6 of my all time favorite bands in one month! King Crimson, Genesis, Sabbath, Yes Grand Funk and Queen! Man you have quite the discography. Keep em coming.
Your ranking nearly matches mine. Glad you go into detail album-by-album. Don't know if they are up your alley, but I'd like to see a ranking of Def Leppard albums.
Lord, Pete, I LOVE that you do NOT edit your shows. PLEASE don't EVER start "polishing". The rawness makes you great, just like a Tele straight into a Fender Deluxe Reverb (or Princeton!) or an LP plugged into a Marshall of any sort (or a Matchless!), just keepin' it real!
yeah there's plenty of dog and pony shows and Glitz and glamour all around UA-cam... they have to include because there's not much substance.. in fact some are so so fucking vapid and vague when they talk about something they talk about something at the 10 other people have talked about it's like they get together what's the topic of the day for UA-cam chat music and then next thing you know there they are...keep doing like you're doing Buck the trend if people don't want Glitz and glamour tell 'em go to another channel if you want to watch cartoons. Many channels don't even reply to your any kind of fucking comments or questions cuz all they are mememe that's really aggravating too. you got all these subscribers to your channels on these other places not even one fucking comment from the uploader. at the subscriber's and those kind of people are what keep your channel going show me these other UA-cam channels don't seem to understand that. ..we know you're busy you're bust your ass for 11 you got a family you have a job that cause you to travel a lot but you do this for your enjoyment and time allows and you do comment when applicable and worthwhile.
First two albums I ever bought were A Night At The Opera and Aerosmith Rocks.... my first few spins of ANATO I hated it and just couldn't get into it but I kept with it and gradually it grew on me and I came to love the band....I can understand why people hate them...their styles are so diverse and if you didn't like variety you certainly wouldn't like Queen...I would put Sheer Heart Attack as my favorite and lately I've been listening to Jazz .....another good video Pete! All their 70s records are great and 80s/90s not so much but I still enjoy them...I'm a fan.
Another great review Pete. One of the best bands in the world. 1. Sheer Heart Attack 2. Innuendo 3. News Of The World 4. Jazz 5. A Day At The Races 6. A Night At The Opera 7. The Works 8. The Game 9. Queen 10. Queen II 11. Flash Gordon (Yes including this one instead of Cosmos) 12. A Kind Of Magic 13. The Miracle 14. Hot Space 15. Made In Heaven
Another killer vid Pete ! Queen to me are like Led Zep as a right of passage band that take me back the 70’ and my you, so damn good ! The 80s stuff while solid, was hot or miss for me up, but completely agree Innuendo was such an amazing swan song (or should have been !) 1 Queen II 2 Queen 3 A Night at the Opera 4 A Day at the Races 5 News of the World 7 Innuendo 8 Sheer Heart Attack 9 Jazz 10 The Game 11The Works 12 Made In Heaven 13 The Miracle 12 Made In Heaven 13 Hot Space (except Under Pressure which is brilliant !!! Don’t own those few other titles but should probably grab A Kind Or Magic
Wow I agree with your rating of the albums, I think the Heaven album is more a work of love, a ending spot for the band. Queen is my favorite band since 1974 no other band could do such a wide range of music, nor would any other band have the courage to try to. Queen band members were inivators, theatrical and powerful, all members were great musicians. I like your video.😊
Queen were truly extremely varied, and that makes them unique too ! Have you had the chance to see them live back in the day ? I'd love to know, have a nice day !
@@maelperez1567 unfortunately no, I live in a small town in the high Sierra of California, all Queen's concerts were hundreds of miles away. No way would my father drive me to San Francisco to see a concert lol. But I own many of their concerts, and love watching them.
The video for I Want To Break Free was Roger Taylor's idea, not Freddie's. He, and his girlfriend at the time, thought a pastiche of British soap opera Coronation Street with the band in drag would be funny.
Jazz has always held a special place in my heart. It was while looking for the band who did Bicycle that I first realized that this band had done so many songs that I loved from the previous five years. Suddenly it just clicked and they became my favorite band of all time.
I have all their studio albums on vinyl, except "Made in Heaven" and, of course, the one with Rodgers, but the truth is that "A Night at the Opera" is their only album without a weak track
Tie between sheer heart attack and night at the opera for me....my favorite songs are killer queen, your my best friend, and I'm in love with my car...highly respect all the extraordinary musicianship by all in this band, especially Brian May, who uses his platform to spread awareness on environmental issues, and animal activism, he is genuinely a very caring and empathic human.
For me the top five would be (most of the time): 1) Night at the Opera (Love every track and it just covers so much territory musically and lyrically) 2) Day at the Races (Love this almost as much as the previous one for the same reasons) 3) Innuendo (This album is such an underrated masterpiece. It's so moving and deep) 4) Sheer Heart Attack (I think this is the album that really set them off to stardom. Brilliant work) 5) Queen 2 (The prelude to brilliance but it really holds its own. Queen 1 is close to this one for me) The list could change a little for the last two LPs for the number 4 and 5 spots but the top three would remain the same for me. For me Flash Gordon is basically crap. The title track is classic Queen but the rest is forgetful for me.
My top five 1.Sheer Heart Attack 2. A Night At The Opera 3.Queen 2 4. Jazz 5.Queen I think i've mentioned before i do covers albums with other friends.I think my fav cover ever, and easily the longest and hardest to put together was our version of Queen's The Prophet Song. It took the best part of three days to do, our main singer and i did all the music. Most are just a matter of hours, and we've covered stacks of seventies tunes. My computer was over heating, i think we had over twenty five layers of vocals. I nearly gave up on the idea as i couldn't work the guitar part out until i suddenly found it was in drop D. Great fun, glad we made the attempt.

1-Queen 2-Sheer heart attack 3-Queen 2 4-A night at the opera 5-Jazz 6-A day at the races 7-The game 8-Innuendo 9-News of the world 10-Hot space 11-A kind of magic 12-The works 13-The miracle 14-Made in heaven 15-Cosmos. First band along with Stones I got into Hot Space I listen to more these days as I know the others inside out so it's for me a change, made in heaven just as Pete said in video feels odd. First album(s) I got were live magic(awesome live a kind of magic!) And Stones dirty work so I have fondness for them which transcends their actual merits, nostalgia. Even dog most of Roger Taylor solo albums.
Hi Pete, Im new on your channel, and Im glad I've found you! I spend almost all of my weekend watching your vids. Not all of them yet of course, but im on to it in the future! We share almost the same taste in music. I really like what you did here with Queen (btw its my first band that brought me into music). March of the Black Queen is a killer. Much love from Poland
Do you have any memories of that night? I'm a Queen bootleg fanatic and I would love to hear some info about that show, as no recording of it is currently known to exist.
My first concert was Queen on the "News Of The World" tour in Dec '77 in Dallas. A friend of the family had some connections and got me and my girlfriend 6th row tickets (which we didn't fully understand how great that was until we got there!). I can't tell you what a thrill it was for a 14 year old kid to see Queen up that close in their prime - I was mesmerized for most of the show. I had taken up guitar a couple of years before and Brian May became such an inspiration to me - he is SO brilliant! The highlight of the show was an acoustic version of "Love Of My Life" that Brian did on a 12-string Ovation with Freddie wearing his 70s trademark black/white squares leotard. I got to see Queen again in '82 and they were just as great - what a band! I thought your ranking was spot on!
Queen II is my favorite. Captures them at their most original. A few years before they became a hit machine in the late 1970s and all throughout 80s.
Mine too!
see above
It’s my favorite too followed by Shear Heart Attack then Queen I
Early Queen stuff is my favorite by far
Am quite happy about that
@@mkndrwd I think a more accurate term is "Grandpa Rock"! I'm going to be 57 this December. Hahahaha
True, queen had hits. But sabbath didnt have radio hits...and i consider them way more important and influential than queen
You can’t really date their music. It’s absolutely classic. I hate the expression dad rock. 😡
QUEEN II - the most darkest, hardest, most badass album EVER!!!
Wdym by ‘darkest’?

Queen II is my favourite album, very progressive rock. And The March of the Black Queen is amazing!
My favourite album too. Then Innuendo, A Kind of magik and The Works. The march of the black queen is better than Bohemian Rhapsody imo.
@savanaviolenta 1000 TIMES BETTER
John Benard i agree. What you said here is the reason why it’s my favourite from them and one of my favourites of all time!
I listened through Innuendo yesterday... It sure was great! And the last song... Must be one of the best closing tracks ever :-)
@@antonbarkland2194 I’m so torn about the Show Must go on. Love the song and it’s great as a closer. But personally I’d like These Are the Days Of our Lives better as the closer. It would be a more subtle, beautiful exit to Freddie.
Its good but there are a few stinkers on there!!
Lyrically Innuendo is dense with Innuendo, especially upon moment of release. Powerful record.
Ever rock fan MUST HAVE Queen 1 and 2. Simple. .....
I'd actually say ALL of their 1970's albums are worth owning and that includes Live Killers.
I would say Queen I and II, Sheer Heart Attack, A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races.
I'd add Sheer Heart Attack.
Queen 2 is by far their best work in my opinion. so heavy and raw.
Filled with amazing melodies all over, too
Father to son is great and leads perfectly to white Queen. Some day one day and loser in the end are good side dishes to diversify the genres and vibes of the album. But Freddie’s half is on another level from top to bottom. Black Queen, master stroke, ogre battle. God this record is great
Black side is the GOAT
I love Queen II, it’s easily my favorite and it’s a lot heavier than most people might think. It’s great from beginning to end.
My Top 5:
1.) Queen II
2.) Innuendo
3.) A Day At The Races
4.) Queen
5.) Sheer Heart Attack
Very good. I'd put Night At The Opera at 4 (Sweet Lady and Prophet's Song, among others) and News Of The World at 5 (It's Late being the best song of all time). Your top three are spot on. But can you imagine doing this in 30 years with Justin Beiber albums?
i didnt see your comment till i after i typed mine.ha
The second album is.no 1
despite the fact that I can truly enjoy "Innuendo" album, since it is definitely one of those better 80's albums from the band, I truly doubt it is their second best...... infact, any 70's is better in my opinion, cause back in the 70's, they were spitting out one masterpiece after another....... on the other hand, I strongly agree "Queen II" being their very best...... not only their best album, but certainly one of the greatest albums of all time in general...... pretty much a flawless record...... and the first album was also a hell of a debut
@@itkojecockot - There's a difference between best and favorite.
“Save Me “was Absolutley phenomenal .
Innuendo’s my favourite, they saved the best for last.
I can't pick a best but Innuendo is up at the top with some of the other greats for me too. I believe if someone doesn't like All God's People they have no soul :) Truly inspired.
@blue zylon I agree the first album rules! To me, the last four Freddie albums SUCKED! After that doesn't count.
Just like Vanessa Williams...
Innuendo is TOP 3 Queen album for me.
Show must go on is their best song, for me.
A top five all time favorite band..
1- Queen II one of the greatest albums ever made.
2- Queen 1 what a debut
3- Sheer Heart Attack
4- Night at the Opera
5- Day at the Races- very underrated
6- All the rest except Hot Space🥺
100% agree with your list.......after this it felt like they were chasing anthems......when Killer Queen is your first intro to this band, everything after your number 5 is a drop off
100% agree......
A Day At The Races is not Underrated.
Hot Space is a guilty pleasure of mine
My No1 is "Sheer Heart Attack", my first Queen album.
My favorite too.
me too ... then it is hard to decide ... maybe 2. Queen 2, 3. A night at the opera ... and very hard to decide later. I dont like that much only Hot space and Miracle, but both contains great songs ...
Amazing album all the way through
Mine too. Bought it in 1974 because of killer queen and found out this band was blowing my mind away.
The song, Staying Power, the driving bass and the pace of it just made me feel really happy and I just love the difference of it all.i love music that moves me and feeds my soul that's why I love this channel.anyway my albums in an interchangeable list are
A night at the opera
Queen 2
Queen
Sheer Heart Attack
A Day At the Races
The Game
News of the World
Jazz
The Works
A kind of Magic
The Miracle
Innuendo
Cosmos Rocks
Hot Space
Made in Heaven
Love them all, some I play more than others.i just think Queen was,are pure music and Magic 👍🌹
I LOVE Staying Power, too!
I agree. Hot Space is a real grower. Love the guitar on ‘Dancer’.
I need to listen to some more Queen albums soon, I love the first 4 but only heard a few songs from the rest. I really don't know if I could pick a favourite between Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack and A Night at the Opera!
1- Queen II - absolute genius, various unknown gems in it
2- Sheer Heart Attack
3- Innuendo
4- A Day at the Races
5- Queen
6- A Night at the Opera
7- News of the World
8- The Game
9- Jazz
10- A Kind of Magic
Queen ll is their best and probably the best rock/metal album of all time. No one has ever come close to having an album that great
I love the guitar on "It's Late" so much that I tried to get a band I was in to cover it.
(James Labrie did skip over the E6 note)
ua-cam.com/video/g3uXs6KOspY/v-deo.html
I have a friend (who was a singer) who used to dismiss Queen... until he tried to sing "It's Late". He put the respect in it's rightful place very quickly after that... :D
I'd argue It's Late is his best vocal performance of his entire career. Man, he sounds otherworldly from beginning to end.
It’s Late is one of my all time favorites
Love Queen
Love Paul Rogers
Never dug them together.
I can see that!
Best performance of any Queen song was done by George Michael at the tribute in my opinion.
After Freddie off course
@@jake6887 I agree with you. Not into George Michael but he did a phenomenal job at that show.
A Night At The Opera probably is the favorite album by most Queen fans. great ranking.
Provs once more that you have excellent taste. ........
My top 5:
1. Queen
2. Queen II
3. A Day At The Races
4. A Night At The Opera
5. Sheer Heart Attack
Sheer Heart Attack is my favorite Queen album. However, overall I agree with your top four. They are all right up there as masterpieces and on any given day interchangeable.
Innuendo was a huge return to form for the band. It combined their 70's and 80's styles while adding something new to the mix as well. Great album!
Ogre Battle and Dead on Time are the most brutal riffs Queen ever recorded. They fucking rock like hell.
Queen II so underrated love that album, but SHA my fV 🤘🏻👍

1. A Night at the Opera (the only Queen album I still listen to from time to time)
2. Sheer Heart Attack
3. Queen (First)
PS - Paul Rodgers is one of my favourite singers since the days of Free in the early 70s. His Free, Bad Co, Firm and solo stuff is great but the Queen album was one big disappointment, I have no idea why he did it.
That's how I feel about the Rolling Stones. I totally understand what you mean there.
Bohemian Rhapsody? You've got to be kidding me? Talk about flamers on vinyl! I could just see their limp wrists flailing in the air!
Omg I forgot how bad Cosmic Rocks is....gone are all the best aspects of Queen to be replaced by forgettable pub rock blues...thankfully John Deacon knee better than get involved with that nonsense
Queen II is my all time favorite album period. I love me some fantasy rock.
My Top 10 of Queen are: 1- Innuendo, 2- The Miracle, 3- The Game, 4- A Kind of Magic, 5- A Day At The Races, 6- Sheer Heart Attack, 7- Queen 2, 8- A Night At The Opera, 9- Debut, 10- News Of The World
"Delilah" though? Come on! the all time worst Queen song ever.
Delilah is great! Best song dedicated to a cat ever.
@@addedood3 😂😂
From A Kind of Magic I always liked One Year of Love... good album overall.
After revisting it I was surprised how much I actually liked it as a whole. Maybe not "great", but pretty good.
It is horrible
Oh no, I LOVE Made in Heaven :) It has such a nostalgic, sombre, very sad vibe. Quite distinct from all other Queen's albums.
Yea, I said the same thing..Great list but I would put Made In Heaven higher. A Winter's Tale is great.
I took some great pictures in Montreux Switzerland with Freddie's satue overlooking lake Geneva.."Made in Heaven" was recorded in Montreux
Great list. I can understand the problem with first ranks.
My list would be:
1. Sheer Heart Attack
A total work of art. Tenement Funster, Flick of the wrist and lily of the valley with the seamless transitions would be sufficient for first rank. Not a single bad track on the album.
2. A Night at the Opera
Close second. 39 and Prophet's song are genius, but I hate sweet lady and You're my best friend is kind of boring. So 2nd.
3. Queen II
White queen, Ogre Battle, The March of the black queen. Need I say more?
4. Jazz
The last really great album until Innuendo. Mustapha is so much fun.
5. Innuendo
I'm going slightly mad, These are the days of our lives, The show must go on and the corresponding videos are just heartbreaking.
6. Made in Heaven
Yes, it is slower and not as extrovert as the others. But Freddie knew, he was slowly diyng and still recorded great songs like Mother love or Made in Heaven. Maybe musically not up there with the others, but a very decent goodbye and Freddies voice still gives me chills. „I long for peace before I die“

Queen ll . The musicianship and creativity of that album propelled them on to the same level as the legendary prog-rock band YES. A masterpiece.
Queen isn't prog and were never considered prog back in the day...must be a 21st century "genre mish-mash".
Hi Pete,
I'm addicted to your show.

Freddie’s songs from Queen I and Queen II remind me of Syd Barret (lyrically and thematically)

There isn't a musical genre that Queen hasn't done.
They never did jazz, despite naming one of their albums after that particular genre.
Don't remember a gergorian chant song or any rap
@MythsQueue That's not jazz. Know what it is? That's right. It's blues...
Anthony Blackmore , fancy seeing you here 😁
They never did any Lituanian Goat Herder music.
Thanks! This is the way we roll here!
absolutely! keep em comin dude.
Given the topic of the video, perhaps the correct analogy would be "just like the Red Special plugged into a Vox AC30"!
@@chrisjamesr77 AC30 (treble boosted!)...i like it!
"LIVE KILLERS" 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Another killer vid Pete ! Queen to me are like Led Zep as a right of passage band that take me back the 70’ and my you, so damn good ! The 80s stuff while solid, was hot or miss for me up, but completely agree Innuendo was such an amazing swan song (or should have been !)

@@deboraclark5791 Oh that's a shame... They were so good !
@@maelperez1567 did you get to see them ? Everyone who did, are so blessed.
@@deboraclark5791 Sadly no, I wish I could !
i think we agree totally on your list for queen
Hey Pete!!!! You NAILED it !!!! I called it the same....different reasons, but the same order up and down
Tie between sheer heart attack and night at the opera for me....my favorite songs are killer queen, your my best friend, and I'm in love with my car...highly respect all the extraordinary musicianship by all in this band, especially Brian May, who uses his platform to spread awareness on environmental issues, and animal activism, he is genuinely a very caring and empathic human.
Like your videos, nice to know i am not the only music/albumfreak, agree alot also this one, cheers bro !! 😎
For me the top five would be (most of the time):
1) Night at the Opera (Love every track and it just covers so much territory musically and lyrically)
2) Day at the Races (Love this almost as much as the previous one for the same reasons)
3) Innuendo (This album is such an underrated masterpiece. It's so moving and deep)
4) Sheer Heart Attack (I think this is the album that really set them off to stardom. Brilliant work)
5) Queen 2 (The prelude to brilliance but it really holds its own. Queen 1 is close to this one for me)
The list could change a little for the last two LPs for the number 4 and 5 spots but the top three would remain the same for me.
For me Flash Gordon is basically crap. The title track is classic Queen but the rest is forgetful for me.
My top five
1.Sheer Heart Attack
2. A Night At The Opera
3.Queen 2
4. Jazz
5.Queen
I think i've mentioned before i do covers albums with other friends.I think my fav cover ever, and easily the longest and hardest to put together was our version of Queen's The Prophet Song.

Hot Space is one of my fav Queen albums. It’s so funky!
1st concert was jazz tour Boston garden and queen 2 is NUMBER 1
👑
