It's been almost 5 years now and I can't express how happy I am with the recent videos it's been amazing watching what you have done with this house and seeing it come into fruition is just amazing she's almost there buddy!!! Can't wait to see it all done!!!!

I remember the other house, you called it the farmhouse and I was wondering about this house because I love it and wondered what happened to it.
I can't imagine getting to live in one of your houses where you know everything is done to the best of your abilities and knowledge.
My wife has done cat rescue for 20 years. Domesticated cats were simply not made to live on their own in the wild. They get diseases and suffer. The kittens have a low survival rate. The best thing you can do is find a cat rescue and trap, fix, return the cats. The reason you want to return them is because it will help prevent other cats from moving in to the area that aren't fixed. There really isn't a practical way to tame a feral adult cat. If I were in your position, I would contact a local cat rescue and have them come and rescue the kittens (they can still be tamed and put into good homes) and fix the adult cats so that you can nip the population in the bud with time. Most cat rescues have volunteers that will do this for free.

I agree with you wholeheartedly! I hope and pray that he is providing food and water for the mother cat! And, yes, she will need be trapped/spayed/released (and she will need to be spayed in the very near future) and released back into her habitat or he will have a HUGE feral cat problem on his hands. And anyone that has worked with that knows that it multiplies fast. Thank you for commenting on the cats/kittens. Kittens are so helpless.

While you were on hiatus from the $9,000 home reno, I bought a acreage homestead two years ago and finished the reno on it five months ago. Good to see progress on this house once more.

I truly LOVE that old door to the kitchen you repaired. Probably old-growth tree wood, and such a nice old-fashioned touch to an otherwise modern kitchen.
Recommend removing caulk behind the toilet so you know if the wax ring is leaking
Some folks would dedicate an entire 20 minute video to restoring that old door. Our guy throws it into the end of this video as a footnote.

Great progress, nice clean little half bath. The other big house looks interesting.
tip for setting the toilet, don't run the bead of silicone all the way around the back. If for some reason there is a leak you want to know about it asap and the silicone could trap water in there for longer. The house is looking nice!
I can't explain it but watching you completely repair that door and glass pane was very interesting.
Since I just mounted a new one in our bathroom, I instantly noticed the missing toilet roll holder. :)

Beautiful job on the baseboard and caulking. I'm such an expert DIY'er that every time a light bulb goes out my wife asks if she should call an electrician.😏
The thin spacers under the baseboard trim during install seem a clever idea, especially when working on uneven floors.
I did it to ease replacement of the linoleum and carpet in the future

It is really coming together now. I can't wait to see you working on the other one either. You are preserving for your children and all our children a memory of what the world was like before cookie cutter McMansions, when a man built his house with his own two hard working hands, and preserving it as a working family home and not a museum. I'm really proud of you for what you are doing, and I'm glad it will soon be an income earner, instead of just a yearly property tax bill. When you have the other one livable, you will have raised that entire neighborhood up. I love the sites of both of these houses. I would be very tempted to live in them, just because they are such lovely places. Those yards need kids running in them.

Little tip. When working with caulk, have a small bucket of warm soapy water handy to smooth the finish with your wet fingers, and a handy spot to rinse your hands! Thanks!

It’s a beautiful loom, it’s a Norwood. It’s my wife’s in the house temporarily.
Can you talk about how you keep all these projects straight in your head? I don’t have a 1/4 of the work on my plate and the anxiety induced from trying to stay on top of what needs done is horrible.
Suggestion for the house next door: make the downstairs room an in-law suite apartment for multigenerational families.
i always remember that joke you made on one of your vids saying how much do you tighten the bolts on the toilet and you said you wanna tighten it until it cracks then lay off a quarter turn

Trap-neuter-return (TNR) !! I'm sure you can find a rescue place near to you to slow down the population of cats where you live, I hope you can contact someone, I love cats too!
When setting the toilet I was taught to not do a 360 degree seal. Leave tje back open so you spot a leak if it happens and head off subfloor damage.
I was wondering if you still owned the farmhouse and look! There it is! When my youngest was a toddler he would throw items in the toilet and flush. I learned how to get the item out of the trap and reseal pretty darn quick. Being a single mom taught me how to fix plumbing, washers and dryers and work on my car. It really helped to be able to teach the boys how to do men's work. Thank you for posting more and I can hardly wait to see the next episode.

Love your videos! 2 things that I found in my trim work journey that are both pretty cheap but extremely helpful are 2p10 thick Glue / accelerator and a bora Miterix tool.

I've been told not to Caulk the full area because if there ends up being a leak you wont see it untill its already tolate and the floors messed up.. so to keep the back part open a few inches

We always enjoy viewing your craftsmanship. The end product always looks perfect or near-perfect. Question: why didn't you seal around the vanity drain pipe at the wall? Seems like an invitation to air leak or entrance into the living area for bugs and critters which could find their way into the home.
BTW...I always enjoy the music, too.

You should use the reusable wax ring. I've used them and love them. The wax is only used to seal the flange to the ring. The toilet sits on rubber. So if you have to take the toilet off for any reason you can just set it back in again. Makes life so easy installing toilets

I know it's just a rental but I hate seeing the water inlets coming thru the base of the sink, my plumber tried to do that I said No, I want it in the wall I like the cabinet to be for storage. But the house is looking so nice, I've been watching awhile now.
I like your idea of having a small apartment off the back of that next project. It would work well if you are thinking you will sell that house when you’re done renovating it. Nowadays, families are caring for elderly parents, or have grown children who need a place to live. Also, if the family living there has kids, it could be rented to someone willing to do babysitting fora rent reduction.
Definitely progress when the plumbing fixtures are going in.

the wax ring your using is not the best the plastic guide does not have enough wax on one side and can cause you problems down the road. that being said nice work. PS cold wax = cracks in it and a poor seal. mine go in the windshield while i drive to the job

Looks like you are on the home stretch. Great idea on caulking the toilet base. Plumber friend said to always leave a 1" opening on the back of the base in case of leak.

This video is like many of our lives and the projects that we take on. Too many and too little time. It'd be cool to see this as a project that is followed through, or you can do a paranormal video, because this house @ 11:10 gives me the royal creeps!
