Not a fail, dude got to cosplay as a developer for 8 yrs with wages paid
He was paying himself 250k a year out of that 8m. A very well payed cosplayer lol
@yep Star citizen at least has a playable demo tho
To be fair, his quite the smooth talker, and know how to present his product well...
@yep It wont
Honestly Vampire Survivor is probably the most honest game that asmon has featured in a long time. Shit graphics, Simple, Cheap, Unlocking features via Gameplay, Tons of fun.... Vampire Survivor Game Of The Year.
Yeah but, can it be speed run in 1:26? Check-mate.
Bought that game after watching Asmon and a few others played it and wow it’s amazing.
the best games are this way tbh. just addictive ass simple gameplay loops from $0.99 steam games on sale that are perfect for ur playstyle.
I got this game called banished... its like an indie survival/city builder game... idk why but that shit got me addicted for a minute. it was actually Totalbiscuits video on it that convinced me to get it.... god I miss that guy, he had good fucking taste in games with in depth reviews
Agreed
Finally bought it last night and the only reason I stopped playing was because I was falling asleep. Such a good game!
I worked as the senior UI designer for this game before being 'cut' in the early phases of development.. It's a bit saddening that this had to be my first foray into the game industry, considering everything that fell apart after I left. Stars in my eyes and all that, but I definitely wouldn't take back the experience. I'm wiser for it, and now have a better understanding of the red flags when scouting future employment opportunities.
I'd say the fact they hired you as a senior UI designer when you had no experience in the games industry says alot about the so called CEO
then where's my fucking money? or my fucking game?
@@michaelcooper2933 Waiting for that class action like the rest of us. You should probably be on board.
@@michaelcooper2933 lol you donated money to a shitty kickstarter game. No game or money ever.
Hiring you would be a red flag. Zero experience. There is NOTHING senior about you.
Seriously, if someone's willing to put you on salary, they don't know what they're doing. That's fucked up. Haha.
LMAO. "My favorite thing about people from Eastern Europe is that they're assholes, but they don't apologize." As an Eastern European guy, this has 100% been my experience hahahaha
And where from Eastern Europe are you ?

As someone who back Chronicles of Elyria. This still is a pain in my heart. I backed 1900$. I learned a lesson that has stayed with me and will forever be in my mind. I spent 1900$ to learn a lesson.
Bruh
even if it turned out to be a good game, why the fuck would you back $1,900??? There is no world where a game is worth that much up front.
More than a lesson. Ain't no way you blew almost 2 bands on someone else's project.
You are just retarded bro
Not everything is a lesson. Sometimes stuff just sucks.
05:53 You had to figure it out that it was a scam when the game devs recreated the fencing scene from The Princess Bride with the game assets.
I was mod on their discord and website, realized very quickly that studio and community was run like a cult. At one point they had instructions for mods to censor anyone who had legitimate questions. I refused, so was removed as moderator at that point I actually started trolling them as well because it was clear to me that it was smoke and mirrors.
Yo how was Elbereth? Heard she was a mod that got cut recently too
This is actually a very easy case to prove in court - in discovery the accounting records will have to be produced to defend the claim that reasonable work was done. FYI - Failure to produce the records will result in a summary judgement that the money was not spent on the product.
I remember my guildie in ESO who would try to convince us Elyria was going to be the best MMO ever and how he and his wife spent over 2K$ to be a duke or something when the game release...
someone must be feeling dumb now :/
RIP
crazy how people that dumb have wives
then again they probably are they same type of people to fall for dumb shit like that
LOL. Fucking idiots who do shit like that. Jesus no wonder companies charge you stupid prices for stupid shit.
@@yt_nh9347 he got duked .
When the game comes out in two weeks I think you might be feeling dumb. 🤪
Since the video didn’t talk about the game idea itself, the pull factor for this game that got people to buy-in was that there were no (or maybe minimal) NPCs. Kings of realms would be players. Peasants that farm wheat for the kingdom would be players. Raiders that ransack land would be players. Deals would be done through player-to-player contracts, etc. The idea was great, to the point where they had pre-purchase packages from $40 up to $10,000!!! And that package granted title to a kingdom, and a visit+hangout at the dev studio along with all the in-game offerings from previous packages. There was a point in 2016 where I nearly kickstarted for $100, thankfully I didn’t.
"the idea was great" no. spend ten thousand united states dollars to become an in-game king either forever (think about the logistics behind that) or with the possibilty of it being taken from you by another player (which is about as human a failure as you could imagine; 10k to be the biggest loser)
players don't want to do npc stuff. never worked out unless roleplay was a big part of it, which has happened in some mmos, one of which is A Tale in the Desert, which is basically just a 3d graphical MUD. This was undoubtedly sold as a competitive game, which means that all aspects of the game must also be competitive or become part of the competition.
however, none of this matters at all since taking one moment to look beyond the basic promised idea would have given enough context for even middling intelligence and mildly cognitively functional people to realize it was too fishy. however, people these days are DESPERATE to suck down sweet, sweet lies, so that middling intelligence rises to just above middling intelligence to skip out on susceptibility
it was blindingly obvious that it was a scam, but telling this to someone makes 0 difference since they desperately seek out the lies they need to live in fantasyland
This is the same thing as that MMO where you were supposed to care how you killed animals because they could end up extinct. When players got in, they just killed all the animals and they ended up going extinct.
5:34 asmons povs both laughed the exact same way at the exacts same time, byt both for separate reasons... simply amazing
I remember seeing this game when the kickstarter started, i was a little kid and couldnt donate even though i wanted to. Now im glad i didnt. They were very clever in the early days, it looked like a decent chunk of the game was done prior to the kickstarter and almost weekly would announce new features (i remember being really excited about the parkour system). Back then it was probably quite easy to fall for
i remember donating to this, i want my $5 back so i can give it to another failed kickstarter
Remember the days when companies made games and THEN you paid for it? Pepperidge farm remembers
5:58 looks extremely similar to that scene in Princess Bride when Inigo Montoya and Westley fence duels.
I was thinking the same thing. I looked it up a while ago. They ripped off the scene 1:1. Even the pacing. Just lol
little did we all know, we've been in Elyria this whole time. it is just so immersive, we haven't even realized it's a game yet. that's how fucking incredible this game is. fucking plebs. get good.
This is an 100% a scam, like most Kickstarters. There is no way to legally define what the promised product actually is, so they can just make anything and claim that was the best they could do.
Two more weeks guys, the early access will be ready in _two more weeks!_
Woo hoo I'm so happy about this information.
pog, my money finally came into fruition.
Scams are made to scam people, and under the right time and situation you too can be scammed. Scammers should be accountable for what they have done and they will do everything they can to get out of being blamed for it.
I remember seeing a video awhile back about a person who targets scams ended up getting scammed himself.
"It's always people's responsibility, never the scammer's" is what someone who scams people and doesn't want to face the justified consequences of their actions would say.
The only world in which that would be true, is if vigilante justice was legalized and the people who got scammed were allowed to take their fate in their own hands and punish the scammer in whatever way they saw fit. But since the legal system has taken that right away from victims of scamming, the scammers should be held accountable by that same system. Otherwise it unfairly exposes vulnerable people and robs them of the ability to fight back. I fundamentally disagree with the notion that some people are born for others to take advantage of, and anyone who truly believes different deserves absolutely no pity.
You didn't think this through, did you? The legal system already deals with scammers. The issue here is that you can't always prove that a scam took place. Legalizing vigilante justice changes absolutely nothing. If you need to prove the scam to even use vigilante justice, what's the fucking point of introducing it? The easiest thing to do is not be stupid, do research, and try to take calculated risks.
Also, vigilante is by definition outside the law, why do you need it legalized?
@@doryfishie2 you didn't think your reply through, did you? You said the legal system already deals with scammers, and then literally the next sentence you go on to describe how the legal system fails to deal with scammers. You're smarter than that. Give it another edit and try again.
27:21 as he says this there is literally a copy of the Mind shield from the Elemental Workshop II quest in the inventory
Asmon reacting to Kira reacting to Asmon reacting to Kira... I see we're stepping up our reaction game here :)
I still don't understand this logic. Okay so let's say you get 4 milions out of Kickstarter. And instead of just taking the money and not delivering the game, you could actually make the game and make ten times more money in the process from sales and shit.
Lmao look at Hollow Knight and the Forbidden City! Incredible games can be created by small teams with little to no funding. Hollow Knight’s kickstarter raised $58,893 AUD (or $43,264 USD) and Team Cherry, a small team of only a handful of people created one of the best/most polished Metroidvania’s ever made!
I understand a full fledged MMO would take more resources to created….. but they should absolutely be able to release a full fledge game for raising for 5 million dollars. That is an incredible amount of money.
I hope whoever orchestrated this giant rip-off gets what’s coming to them because that’s an awful way to treat your kickstarter backers.
It’s people like this doing underhanded stuff like this that prevent more legitimate kickstarters and potentially great games from being funded and created.
From what I've heard, making mmos are more expensive than normal game, and 8 million is not nearly enough. I know and play hollow knight and all i can say is it's of different game scale. Mmos now has AAA standard level graphics, wide open world map, not to mention class diversity and server cost. Comparing that to a 2d, non multiplayer, less than 10 hours game is not quite fair isn't it?
Not to belittle hollow knight, but mmos are made to play for hundreds of hours, content size is much complicated to make.
The reason i legit believe this is a scam is because the people who collected all this money could use it to hire actual devs. Even as contract work in order to get the investments they need for a permanent team! But I'm sure they took the money, used a little to make the thing they made then took off.
The true mmo is the friends we made along the way
4:41 "Non-Functioning Testicles".
You think 8 million is a lot? Star Citizen is at 400 MILLION. 10 years later we still have nothing but a tech demo.
most these kickstarter mmos are just rug pull scams, they take the money, bring out some dog shit game then leave. Easy money
That's blizzards plan
The only one that has a shot at being good is Ashes of Creation. It's not a sure thing but there's actually hope in a few years of a good game.
@@fireky3 it can't be, because they've had wow for 15+ years lol

There's a reason why you don't sell in game land for real money because then you're just remaking Roblox
Well, to me at least this Chroncles of Elyria game seems closer to playable than Earth2. Give them some credit for that ;)
24:30 Jeremy was watching 💀👌🏿
SavageLoaf called out. 🤣
Your evaluation of “Marketing” classes is spot on…..
Reminds of a game called Camelot Unchained.. same shit, same story, same bullshit updates, same time frames being missed.. yet, they are "still making the game".. and the kickstarter was back in 2013. They also used the kickstarter money to build a stupid shitty ass MOBA and put that out and of course it flopped harder than my dick on a coke binge.
My step dad backed this back in 2013 bought me and him pre-release copy with year sub (dunno how much it was) he also bought himself a backers package (again no idea the cost) he and I both so hyped to play it together in 2015 (beta release date) from what I remember he played some stress test demo (1000 "people" on a small map running on their "servers") at somepoint in early development and ever since end of 2014 it's just been constant updates with never any more demos or alpha's or any form of gameplay tests I even unsubbed from getting emails back in 2017 because it was just ever week more BS. I mean I never paid anything into it luckily but he did and was really looking forward to it and really invested in it early on because Dark Ages of Camelot was his favourite MMO for a while back in the days and although he wouldn't admit it I think it really bummed him out after a few years and that kinda sucks more than loosing the money tbh. For me aswell I was hyped to play a new mmo together after we quit WoW and Guild Wars 2 got boring it was at a time when there was a huge mmo drought I can see why a lot of people got scammed quite frankly.
The main thing that is working against CoE vs. Buyer Beware is that Soulbound (makers of CoE) showed years of fake assets that didn't actually exist. Those fake assets would lead someone who wouldn't have invested otherwise into investing. Basically, they made a financial decision based upon the fake image they were given. And that is where things get dicey for Soulbound. Had they not been putting out continuous fake updates for years and had just been straight forward and honest about their progress, then they would be fine right now. But years of lying and faking people out doesn't look good in the eyes of the court.
Its actually a little sad now, I just checked the Q2 update on their site since its now the 19th, the man is liquidating personal assets to keep the company afloat, and the play-test alpha isnt coming, shocker there.
I remember when I first heard about this.. sounded like it was gonna be amazing.. learned my lesson with the Firefly mmo though. Decade of fake outs on that one.
18:25 UML diagram. learned it on my second day too.
The original is private so this is all that remains
I wonder why it was made private?
"This game wouldn't even look good in 2007" ... erhm ... it wouldn't look good in 2004... Compare this to EQ2 at launch. 😀
It's always funny watching asmon, watching someone's video watching asmon
I remember CoE --- this game description looked fantastic. I bought into it and paid some money in the early stages of the kickstarter campaign. BUT nothing ever happened. Just lots of email blurb that were just wall of texts, and nothing else. Nothing was real with this game. Very disappointing. And yes I did my cash. If I had seen any of this following "game play" that came out later there is no way that I would have funded anything. What I can't believe is that some other friends of mine continued to put money into it.
I want to give Asmon a big thank you for brightening up my day. Am sick as a dog, so crap that I went for a PCR test and 24 hr test this morning, negative on first, but I will bet the 24 hr test will come up "positive, enjoy feeling like ass for a few days". But asmon had me cracking up and smiling after just a few minutes.
You are like a breath of fresh air in a fart-filled room :)
Hey man the regular flu still exists. That's probbalt what you have.

Ghey
Don't pay for games that don't exist, folks.
Funny thing is, Eastern Europeans ACTUALLY study and, back in the day, when my dad was in University, he had a teacher that would ask them questions until he would have passed them through the whole course. Also, no offense my 'murican friend, but, we know the difference betwen 'than' and 'then' . I can take jokes as Romanian, but , if you think American educational system is good, think again. It is not. I'm helping my niece with her courses from an American private school , that's how I know. They have the most idiotic requirements that doens;t help anyone developing writing skills. Anyhoo, as a fellow WoW player, currently on a break, I still enjoy your content so, keep up the good work!
I was so hyped for this game!!! I had fun playing Life is feudal. This looked like LiF on steroids at the time!
Best game that got screwed over was Vanguard Saga of Heroes. Hands down, that was an amazing game with huuuuuge potential that just fell through.
I never hear that game mentioned anymore , I never played it much and joined it a bit late but it seemed like it could have been better than any of the competition . I played a healing melee class i cant even remember the name but i liked it . But the game was a bit of a mess , they used the wrong game engine which didn't help and paid for it and always would. Shame as it could have been great.
i remember seeing this in a game informer as a young teen. im in my early 20s now.
I can not believe Asmon had not seen this yet lol
@@mattb6646 ohh you're right, I didn't realize there had been a new one made, there have already been some made up to two years ago, thought it was that since the story is pretty much the same without any further information.
" I wish they made a game like this"
I might be a bit late but there's a game called mount and blade which isn't an mmo but it's an enjoyable medieval game
I’m not defending them but 30 employees for 4 years at $40,000 a year is $4.8mill I don’t know what rents are or bills over there but over half the money would have got to payroll or am I being dumb?
Star Citizen Commercial release: 2016. (From Roberts' own presentation slide)
The funny thing is there's an old anime mmo with already all of this stuff in it's game.
I know I’m a bit late here, but is there actually an game with that stuff. And if yes, what’s the name?
with $5mil they could probably hire a good set of developers and programmers. make a game SEPARATE FROM from the scam, develop and release it (probably start from small see if it develops) WHILE faking the chronicles of elyria and try to milk some of more kickstarter scam cash.
I knew this shit was a scam before the runescape build came out, literally every trailer was different from the last, he was just throwing together a bullshit CGI trailer like big companies do at E3 everytime.
If I had 8 Million in the bank, you'd see the best goddamn Survival RTS game ever made in all of human history by the time I fuckin die.
How likely is it this will have an "engoodening" like No Man's Sky by Hello Games? Considering the behavior of the developer it is rather slim if not nonexistent.
To sum up the reason behind lawsuit: advertised to crowdfund development of game, but it was actually a crowdfund to develop advertising the game.
Edit:
To add oil to the burning scam, agreeing to the terms for downloading and playing Kingdoms of Elyria, the person legally gets disarmed for the Class Action Lawsuit.
I checked Star Citizen to see if they at least released it, apparently they did.
the in game area at 6:12 is an exact copy of the area fight scene between the man in black and Inigo in the movie The Princess Bride.
Just the thumbnail alone I already know what's up. LMFAO
with that much money i could just live the rest of my life doing nothing.
I actually paid a $15 or $30 pledge to this game. I forgot about this thing back in 2020 and still continued to forget about this til now.
„Selling virtual real estate“ … haha. Facebooks Metaverse parallels 🤣 I remember second life.
This is what we call an "mmorpg rugpull". These scammy nft projects need to take notes.
I invested about $1.5k in this thing and it was the community of those pledged to it that made (or rather would've made) it awesome.
There were several hundred people just on EU playing the game of thrones, even before there was anything close to a pre-alpha announced, harder than game of thrones did, and that's not even counting NA and its drama.
The community that had formed would've most likely made this game great, had it ever been real.
Dam. Sorry
@@treasurehunter3369 Well, happens.
It's like playing the lottery, could've been awesome or the money's gone.
Only that it was way more expensive and would've been way less awesome than actually winning the lottery :'D
This project is a totally, completely joke.😆
my supervisor is a middle aged balding man who likes fantasy and MMOS and he invested 10k into this game which is how i found out about it
I was one of those people that would always do it last minuet, but I would fucking lucris speed study. My charisma skill in fallout terms is a 1, in fallout classic dumb run possible.
>you could make a better fantasy setting with skyrim or oblivion assets
sureai literally did both lol
People should just do a little more diligence when it comes to crowdfunding games just as you would with any investment because that's what it is. A concept video and nothing else is not a good reason to invest in anything. It needs at the very least to have a playable prototype.
Seems like how star citizen could've gone, kept growing the scope without growing the capital needed for it. Or just pocketed it, I'm being generous lol
Its not like they gave him the money. They had legitimate contract and purchase documents.
It’s not true at all that they received no interest from investors. Lack of research here. Actually, there were 3 separate offers of full funding. However, all the investors wanted stuff like lootboxes and more management control, so the guy in charge refused them assuming there would be a better offer later.
Notice something. This guy also got a PPL loan. He's trying to clone Banished and claim it's proof he's fulfilling the promise of creating the MMORPG he told people he was going to make.
This game must be owned by the same people running the bank in South Park. "Aaaand it's gone!"
Basically Star Citizen but at a much smaller scale.
the one and only Kickstarter game i have invested in is Kingdom Come Deliverance.
You know a game with the word "deliver" in the name is gonna deliver on its promises.
I keep thinking this is going to happen with Pantheon Rise of the Fallen. It's been 8 years and they keep starting over. Now all of a sudden, 8 YEARS into development, they need to work in the games networking system. "the most important part of the game"... umm maybe you should have started working on that like 7 years ago .... vaporware. They keep acting like they creating the very first MMO ever and everything they do is ground breaking as if it's never been seen before
Didn't he already watched this video? I remember his reaction on this game.
Its an old scam, new kiratv vid hes reacting to. Probably forgot about the scam.
I think this is one of those projects that started well and intended to do well and eventually turned into a scam
Grading on a curve is the most stupid thing schools/teachers can do.
If your whole class sucks then you shouldn't give them good grades and if your whole class is great you shouldn't give some of the shit grades just to follow a curve
Seeing all the spread sheets really shows how much work the guys put in.........wait....why are the ALL 1kb? XD
Hey Asmon, ik you probably won't see this but thx for down to earth content that you actually enjoy making. It really shows in the videos and streams. Glad your doing well and streaming many hours which means your probably enjoying it again now.
theres a difference between buying assets and buying low hanging fruit everybody would use and spot assets lmao
It's kinda ironic that wow shadowland is tagged in this video
This will also be ashes of creation the game has been coming out forever and they made a battle royal instead.
I remember finding out about this game and waiting for it to come out I supported crowfall already so i wasn't commited to supporting another MMO but i watched it closely and waited for an Alpha test or some kind then 4 years later it fails glad i waited it out.
Check out City Of Titans and their 9 year combat update 🔥
Chronicles of Star Citizen puts this in the shade. A twelve year, 410 million dollar… tech demo.
I was excited for this game to be relesed lol im a fool for believing in this game
Asmongold is back on CoE, is this the climax of the 'Into the Abyss' story?
Did my Semesterpresentation the night before and got 13/15 points.
Bumped my grade to the best possible for my finals and landed me a job.
I did pay for it when it started, totally forgot it and now I regret it
Reminds me of Zoe Quinn with her fake game and taking $80k, yes WAY less than $8mil but still hoodwinked the backers.
This was pretty dumb bro, wasnt albion online out back then, this shit looks like worse that, and albion is pretty bad. I just be wondering where all these ppl at who give away millions for nothing so often, like its year after year this happens fam
