What's really funny is that even tho the situation you describe at around 21:00 or so is very rare, something that isn't super rare is that in 4 HP rounds, if the dealer is at either 1 or 2 HP, he will often use or steal cigarettes, and then, now being at 2 or 3 hp out of 4, will then use pills if he has them and go right back down to where he started lmao I've done a few attempts at speedrunning the game for All Steam Achievements and I've seen this many times, and it never failes to crack me up
Using pills is usually a pretty good play on endless mode for the dealer. Endless mode is all about you, the player, lasting as long as you can. High variance plays favor the dealer getting lucky enough to break your streak; it needs lots of luck to go its way to beat a skilled player. To the point that the AI would probably be tougher if it was willing to use bad medicine even at 1 life out of 3 (only as a desperation play after checking all other items though). It's ofc smarter at 2/4 life to do medicine then potentially cigs if needed in that order as well. A play like cigs + bad medicine at one life remaining is a 50% chance to give the dealer a 1 to 4 life swing, which if you spent considerable resources to take 3 life off can put you 1-2 life down with little to no items, giving him a nearly-insurmountable lead. Whereas just +1 life every once in a while usually isn't enough to make the dealer lose when you get first turn advantage every round.
@@HeyItzMeDawg This does help put it into perspective. You're definitely right. He can eat shit and die as many times as he wants, but you only get one life. So occasionally playing like a moron to swing a low precent chance to fuck you over is kind of always worth it for him. I still like to leave pills to him though, I feel like him gaining two is still less of a big deal than you taking extra damage, when you tend to have more round control to claw back a deficit
It's not really code, it's more. That's just how the order of evaluation ends up happening. By the time the dealer gets to your items to figure out if you have cigarettes, he's already used the expired medicine.

Wait no hat's not how it works he just throws shit around.. but I suppose you could always make them put items in a fixed order so that it can be read as such? doesn´t the dealer drink beer when he knows the next shell is blank just to free up space? maybe while playtesting the dealer didn´t use it enough and got no items in the next round or something like that
I expected that he'd have an x/n chance to shoot you and y/n chance to shoot himself, where x, y, and n are the number of lives, blanks, and all shells respectively I don't know whether the way he actually works is smarter or dumber. theoretically it'd average out to be the same, in practice it might be a bit different.
For the "weird edge case" thing Isn't this already covered by how you said the dealer uses adrenaline? Didn't you say, (adrenaline is only used after the dealer has deemed he won't be using any other items) Expired medicine had the conditions to be used, so it is used before using adrenaline
have you considered covering D&D dice math? it would be interesting to experiment with running situations 1000's of times to see how things really shake out with stuff like advantage and different dc's and ac's
Yeah, would love to know how large the flat increase to a roll would have to be to be better than advantage on the same roll. Would you be better off with a +5 to hit sword, or a sword that always gives you advantage to hit?
Great work! However, there are a few edge cases i wanna comment on: 8:42 The bug isn't actually entirely fixed, it's just not as abusable any more. While the dealerKnowsShell and knownShell variables get reset properly when the new dealer uses a beer, it still doesn't reset the dealerTarget variable. The only part in his code where dealerTarget matters is when he makes the decision to shoot when he doesn't know the next shell. So basically, if these conditions happen: 1. Dealer knows the next shell is blank 2. Dealer uses a beer 3. Dealer does not know the next shell Then he will always shoot himself because the dealerTarget variable is still set to himself due to knowing the previous blank shell, and he will skip the logic for deciding who to shoot. Yes, he will shoot himself even if there's more lives left thank blanks. 13:06 The dealer also can't use expired medicine more than once between shots (usingMedicine variable) 19:39 In this specific case, you're describing an example where the dealer thinks he doesn't have access to cigarettes even if he does. This bug can also work the other way around, he thinks he has access to cigs even if he doesn't. What this means is that sometimes he will skip using his expired medicine because the hasCigs variable is still set to true even though he doesn't actually have access to any cigarettes. I'm not sure if all of this is 100% correct, I tested it half a year ago and its quite complicated. But here's my best explanation to knowing if the dealer THINKS he has cigarettes or not, which will determine if he will use his expired medicine: Dealer thinks he has cigarettes if either of these conditions are true: 1. He has cigarettes among his own items. 2. It’s his first action of his turn and you stole his cigarettes during your previous turn 3. If all of these conditions are true: a. It’s not his first action after items were cleared b. He had adrenaline during his previous action c. You had cigarettes during his previous action d. His previous action wasn’t spent stealing your last cigarette pack (Shooting or using an item is considered an action in this context.) So in the example you gave it would make sense that he doesn't think he has access to cigarettes. Condition 1 is false, condition 2 is presumably false, and its the first action since he got adrenaline (because dealer checks expired meds first), thus he didn't have adrenaline during his previous action so condition 3a or at least 3b are false.
Hey, thanks for the extra edge-cases! Looking again at the code, looks like at least the first 2 examples you gave are correct; interesting that the bug wasn't fixed lol. Will have to try and wrap my head around the last point you brought up after I get home from work haha, but I'm guessing you're right here.
As much as Id love to see the 21 trill run, that is 40k x 2^29. So you would need to watch 30*3 rounds of the game. Given that it takes nearly 10 minutes to play through one best of 3 a couple times in this video, you would spend 5 hours doing commentary on this single run. So I highly suggest you maybe just play it on auto or something or just give us some way to look through the run on our own
Yeah lol, realized that as I was validating the seed playback. Will probably have a recording with no commentary for ppl who are curious to skip thru, then do a separate vid where I go over highlights

@@delightfulkissboy8926 My bad bossman, should've never doubted you
have you considered covering D&D dice math? it would be interesting to experiment with running situations 1000's of times to see how things really shake out with stuff like advantage and different dc's and ac's
Yeah, would love to know how large the flat increase to a roll would have to be to be better than advantage on the same roll. Would you be better off with a +5 to hit sword, or a sword that always gives you advantage to hit?
This would be a fun vid! I'll keep this in mind, thanks!
@@nibs7252there's a channel called "Joseph Newton" on here that has a video on exactly this question if you're interested
I just realized that you sound a lot like Sal Kahn
Hooray
Great work! However, there are a few edge cases i wanna comment on:

The bug isn't actually entirely fixed, it's just not as abusable any more. While the dealerKnowsShell and knownShell variables get reset properly when the new dealer uses a beer, it still doesn't reset the dealerTarget variable. The only part in his code where dealerTarget matters is when he makes the decision to shoot when he doesn't know the next shell. So basically, if these conditions happen:
1. Dealer knows the next shell is blank
2. Dealer uses a beer
3. Dealer does not know the next shell
Then he will always shoot himself because the dealerTarget variable is still set to himself due to knowing the previous blank shell, and he will skip the logic for deciding who to shoot. Yes, he will shoot himself even if there's more lives left thank blanks.

The dealer also can't use expired medicine more than once between shots (usingMedicine variable)

In this specific case, you're describing an example where the dealer thinks he doesn't have access to cigarettes even if he does.
But here's my best explanation to knowing if the dealer THINKS he has cigarettes or not, which will determine if he will use his expired medicine:
Dealer thinks he has cigarettes if either of these conditions are true:
1. He has cigarettes among his own items.
2. It’s his first action of his turn and you stole his cigarettes during your previous turn
3. If all of these conditions are true:
a. It’s not his first action after items were cleared
b. He had adrenaline during his previous action
c. You had cigarettes during his previous action
d. His previous action wasn’t spent stealing your last cigarette pack
(Shooting or using an item is considered an action in this context.)
So in the example you gave it would make sense that he doesn't think he has access to cigarettes.
Amazing, I am like #1000
Hell naw, he for real made 300k guys play buckshot roulette and die just for maths 😭😭😭
I want the seed for $21 trillion, but You play it. Then again maybe that will change the rng and it won’t work
I got 40.6 million against this guy the other day
(In reference to the dealer)
As much as Id love to see the 21 trill run, that is 40k x 2^29. So you would need to watch 30*3 rounds of the game. Given that it takes nearly 10 minutes to play through one best of 3 a couple times in this video, you would spend 5 hours doing commentary on this single run. So I highly suggest you maybe just play it on auto or something or just give us some way to look through the run on our own
Yeah lol, realized that as I was validating the seed playback. Will probably have a recording with no commentary for ppl who are curious to skip thru, then do a separate vid where I go over highlights
According to Forbes, the richest person alive is Elon Musk with approximately $415.8 billion. 21 Trillion is a stupid comparison and absolutely ridiculous
So it's pretty much just rigged now
My first game ever was a win lol. AI in the game is so bad.
