This is the best "how to" for Y corners I've ever seen. Thank you for taking the time to make this tutorial. I am making an Attic Window quilt, using your clever template, and every corner is turning out perfectly!
I finished an Attic Window panel quilt, thanks to this tutorial! Used YOUR mitered corner technique and it was SewVery Easy. New to quilting and intimidated by matching points, flat seam, squaring blocks, etc. The panel I had cut into windows, tried the snowball technique, but did not like the extra seam. The unfinished windows was a reminder of unsuccessfully completing a small top. Then this video came along, I mitered one window, and another and another. Perfect miters every time, cardboard template Brilliant!!! Then I ripped out the others and redid them all. 12 windows total. This is my second quilt top, finished in one afternoon. Thank you so much for making this something I can be proud off.

If you’ve never watched Donna Jordan’s videos I think you’ll love them in a different, and equally valuable way.
Donna’s videos focus on basic construction and Lara’s focus is broader and more conceptual. I stop by often when I want my brain tickled.
Jenny Doan’s videos are always fun. She’s very laidback and loves scrappy quilts.
These three women are fabulous guides for you. As you found here all three focus on the joy of quilting, are very encouraging and don’t sweat the small stuff. If you like Lara’s fabulous channel you’ll feel at home on the other two.

Laura, fantastic!!! Love all the techniques!!! Comments below of quilters digging out this attic ruler.... dig out some printed blocks for windows too! Charlie Brown and the great pumpkin, vintage Easter bunny blocks and my favorite Dr. Seuss green eggs and ham printed blocks! Family photo transfer to fabric.... this list goes on! And, so many faux wood or marble fabrics for the sills to make even more realistic!! Eeek! My brain is thinking too much!! 😂 Thank you!!!

You rock! I have been given a panel that actually has the squares bordered with black, to make an entire picture. But I wanted to do the 3D effect. I was nervous, but with your tutorial, I can even try some samples and see which way works best for me.

This is perfect for my needs, I am working on a piece which will be a cottage style window, with a vase of flowers out of EPP appliquéd onto the backing fabric, hopefully to give the affect of a vase in a window, well that’s the plan... I really love the choices of construction ...big thank you

SewVeryEasy thinking #1 has a lot of prep work, the half squares make to many seam lines but when I get into making them...I might try them all!
Great video! Showing the different ways to put them together really made it "click" for me.
Block 6 could be made in Christmas fabric and the little pockets used for lollies/Candy as an advent calendar. So many ways to make one block. I like the snowballing one the best however I enjoy making block 1 as well!

I always use the traditional method because it’s tried and true and it’s easy to be accurate. Over time I’ve always relied on the markings on my Bernina feet.
Before I got my Bernina I just used my small ruler to mark the stops. I futzed around with a variety of tools and finally just donated them because I realized that I didn’t need them.
Having said that, it’s always a joy to see such alternatives. The goal is accuracy, nu? And it’s the end product that counts!

I'm new to quilting and love the options for making the attic window. My favorite method is #6, but it should be noted that if you are using a directional pattern, cutting the larger square into the two triangles results in the subsequent two squares being mirror images.

That is really cool looking.
Your 1/4 foot most likely has a notch on the side indicating your 1/4 mark. Mine has 3 notches, one where the needle is, one a 1/4 behind the needle, and another notch 1/4 in front of the needle. So you just stop sewing when your fabric hits the 1/4 notch before the needle. If you want to leave 1/4 at the start unsewn, just line the fabric up to the first 1/4 inch notch before the needle, and start sewing. If you do want to make a mark on the fabric indicating the 1/4 that's fine too. It might be easier to see a black line than a notch on the side of a foot. But if your in a hurry just looking at the foot instead of making a mark on the fabric would be quicker.

Think I'll go with method 3. That quarter inch corner templet I'm going to study some. I might be able to utilize it in some way when I miter my binding corners (Mark the corners when get there). Maybe.

Hey, Laura, First, I want to thank you for making all of the videos for us to watch & learn from. I love your channel & have been watching it for years!!! Anyway, I was curious about the main fabric, do you know where I can find it at? I saw that you made this video in Oct, last year, but my daughters having another baby in Dec. or Jan. We're not sure what sex it is yet but this fabric could go for a boy or girl, don't you think? Thanks again for all the time you take out of your life to share these videos with us. I know you've taught me tons of things! ;)

Do you think it will work with a picture I want to make a lap quilt for my sister I printed out a large picture of our mom. We lost her a while back. Anyway I've piece those together and I've been trying to think of someway to finish it.

Could you please clarify the size of the strips you mention at 11:00? Are the strips 3" wide and 7" or 8" long?
