Not only did I make this with Vanessa's fabric just as Laura did, but I won first prize in a quilt competition at our local community fair. (And it was my very first quilt competition!) Laura, you were my inspiration to make this beautiful quilt!
Laura very nice Christmas quilt, I like the color choices The poinsettia print is beautiful. The other Prints added into it give it a non-traditional look. But it works with the poinsettia print. Thank you for this tutorial the way you explained it was perfect. I so can see this made up in so many other fabric choices.
Love the log cabin design and its variations. Your tutorials are always so clear and concise, no faffing around and this method is brilliant ! Being so orderly makes quick work of putting the blocks together and love having a plain section. Thank you, I am learning such a lot from you and really appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos xx
What an absolutely delightful quilt. I'll be making this one for sure. This is the first time I've ever seen half a log cabin. Thank you for sharing the directions.
I love the final quilt, that is how I would do it. I love being able to showcase a beautiful large print. I have some nice large prints that I have been reluctant to cut, but this would be perfect
I LOVE THIS VARIATION ON THE LOG CABIN!!!! I am a quilt artist, formerly a painter. My medium now is fabric, and I am loving it! Your tutorials ARE outstanding. I will be making this quilt with artistic license. Can't wait! I've got 3 quilts on my Design walls; as soon as I clear out one quilt top, this one goes on my design table; once I've semi worked out my design, up on the wall it goes. This has exciting potential for me! Many thanks. Lindsay, Sacramento, CA
I love that idea of stacking and then moving the top row to the bottom, etc. What a great idea to add variety and a scrappy look to your log cabin. Brilliant and fun as always! :)
There are lots of reasons why I find your tutes superior to most others, but one of my FAVES is that you do not waste time having us watch you cut and sew fabric!!! I have Never understood why most quilt instructors are persuaded that there is educational or entertainment value in demonstrating those activities. Thank you for your careful instructional design.
Some of us are very visual learners and I for one like to see how each step is done exactly! I find it confusing if I can't see what is being done in each step along the way and I am more apt to make mistakes as I make the pattern!
Bonnie Brannon when I started quilting, the only thing I knew was how to use a sewing machine. Those instructors who showed the use of the rotary cuter, what a 1/4 inch seam looked like, how they arranged pieces on the machine helped a lot. I could see what I was supposed to be doing. Even now it helps to see that sometimes cuts and seams aren't perfect, and how they correct them.
Bonnie Brannon I totally agree. How clear and concise without us watching the cutting and sewing when not needed. Laura, I look forward to your tutorials--thanks so much!
Bonnie Brannon I could not agree more with you! For those that are just starting or are "visual learners" there are tons and tons of tutes out there showing every single little detail. For those of us who are more advanced, it becomes so tedious to have to skip through all the cutting and step by step stitching and pressing to see a pattern to fruition. There's always a video out there to explain the steps she's using. Keep doing things the way you're doing them. Some of us are thankful for your efficiency.
I also like not having to watch the cutting and stitching. This way we can learn a really new and interesting design without investing an hour or so. I think she includes all the measurements and instructions that are necessary to be able to put this quilt together. If you listen at the beginning I believe she also includes the amount of each fabric necessary to make her quilt. I'm a fan of this style.
This is just STUNNING!! That. Large print is perfect. That red just frames it and the other colors give a place for you eyes to rest..... Really ,really nice.blessed holiday weekend
I was just thinking the same thing! I have some large print poinsettia fabric that will really set off the 1/2 log cabins. . . think I need to get busy now!!
Quick & easy, Laura?, as long as one is able to sew accurately. (Not me!.) But, i keep on doing it anyway bc i love the process. I think it's the math (the one part of quilting w wh i am confident!) and the fun of putting pieces together to make pictures. As always, thank you for teaching us. You are the best!
Laura, that is a beautiful quilt. I love the idea of making a half log cabin square coupled with the other half of the square with a single fabric. The secondary pattern is quite striking. Thank you!
Stunning Ms. Laura! Love to see the interplay and overlay of radiating floral and stripy log cabins. I'd make sure the center has red flowers in all 4 corners tho. My eye slides up to the two blocks above center that has 2 red flowers coming close to each other. Cheery, crisp, modern ...just lovely. Thanks.
Don't know how I missed this one until now, but so glad I stumbled upon it. May be one of your best videos ever. Great quilt. Thank you so very much for this one! You are so talented and so easy to follow. What an excellent teacher.
I love your instructional and informative videos, along with the great tips. I have gained more skills and confidence in my own quilts. Thanks you for taking the time to make these videos, I have subscribed and love every video.
I'd love this video more if you cut and sew'd on your Bernina. I loved your half log cabin quilt top. Needed some encouragement to get back into sewing. Thanks again Laura, for your video tutorials.
I love this ❤️ I just received a nice sampling of Fat quarter bundles. I’m limited for space. So I was thinking of doing quilt as you go. Which would mean the blocks would be broken up. It’s going to have to do until I get a long arm sewing machine. Thank you for sharing this though. ❤️

Congrats! What a nice story to share. Enjoy your moment!
