I was hoping deltas would be mentioned, but I'm not sure if they're well known or not, they were my introduction to the TCG (and responsible for me being wrong about many types), and they're actually very fascinating because there was a whole lore and region surrounding them with the Holon region! I wish they'd do that in the TCG again because as a kid it was fun to piece together this little region that only existed in the card games haha
@@wnrr2696 I don't really know much about the specifics myself other than the basic premise. Was never a huge follwer in the tcg space. Square shiny Pokémon are another special shiny that people often don’t know about. In SwSh, there’s a small chance that a shiny Pokémon has “square” sparkles rather than the star shaped ones.
So when it comes to the Colosseum shinys I believe its more of a technical limitation rather then a error by the developers. When it comes to 3D graphics it's not the mesh (the actual 3D model) that has a large file size but rather the textures themselves are. I assume they couldn't justify giving every Pokemon 2 separate textures so most had a filter applied to them or otherwise had their texture changed though code for their shiny forms.
This Shelled Gastrodon sounds a lot like a throwback to the back sprites seen in the Generation 3 games, where its head seems more armoured compared to the two we got today
I think light pokemon are really similar to totem pokemon, both are coated in the light of the region, which boosts their bulkiness, hp, and doesn't change their appearance other than, well, light
For #4, Light Pokemon kinda exist in Go through purified Pokemon. They have higher base stats and possible CP, can know the powerful move Return, and take 5% less candy to evolve. For #1, they’re hue shifts just like the sprites. But hue shifting for textures is a whole other story than hue shifting pixels.
I can defintely imgaine Arceus's true form being like the Beta Version for Arceus that was found in the datamine for Diamond and Pearl since you can't distinguish it's true form as upon trying to will probably kill them
I'm sort of surprised with all the talk about the TCG he didn't touch on Delta Pokémon (gaining Steel or Electric type/moves) not to mention the original Pokémon Stadium's 'personalization' colors for nicknamed Pokémon.
My take on Arceus’ true form was always a humanlike bipedal thing. I was inspired by the old Sinnoh myth that humans and Pokemon were once one and the same, and so I think it only makes sense that Arceus would carry the essence of all life with it and be both human and Pokemon.

If Gastrodon does have an ancient alternate form then Pokemon really missed the mark by not including it in Legends Arceus. Tho I wonder if said form was mistaken by the people of Sinnoh for Goodra.
The gastrodon sounds like hisuian goodra, it goes from purple to pink and blue makes sense and it has a hard metal shell. Must have just evolved off of it.
I've played Pokemon TCG for many years and I used to collect the cards and I remember the light pokemons, the dark pokemons and the crystal pokemons. I think it would be an interesting concept for a game to have pokemon being either corrupted or purified by dark or light energy (kinda like in Gale of Darkness or Pokemon 4Ever).
Been watching these types of videos for years and still enjoy them even when I know the facts but this was all new to me! Amazing video man keep it up!
In regards to Arceus: in Arceus and the jewel of life, Arceus gives a character three of it's plates to make a jewel, the jewel of life which are pieces of arceus's life. Arceus is incomplete without them. Additionally, some dex entries speak of arceus using it's 1000 arms. This suggests that those parts that arceus gave could be like in the movie, or that the arms are the part that are unseen. I therefore don't think arceus giving 'parts' of itself means it has a different form.
1.I'm sure hisuian goodra ended up being what hisuian gastrodon could have been... 2.Dark pokemon were raised by Rocket, Light were by good people like gym leaders. It's pretty much like Shadow/Purified in pokemon GO. Edit after point 4... LIGHT IS NOT A TYPE! 3.The Arceus one is kinda lame... No form does not equal new form. 4.'Crystal pokemon' weren't a form, it's a typing/ability... the thing in SV is not what the tcg did. Keep in mind, throughout the tcg history, there are alot of cards including delta species, that don't stick to a pokemons game typings... there are way fewer types in the tcg... Edit after calling colorless normal... The White pokemon cards are generally Normal/flying type pokemon. COLORLESS energy means All/no typing. Closer to the crystal point you are trying to make. ENERGY types don't equal pokemon typings. 5.developer error does NOT equal canon... Literally 3 out of 5 points were wrong. This is a terrible video, for what the title is...
I'm disappointed that we never saw any other forms of gastrodon because the pokedex entries say they have all different colors and looks depending on the locations and regions but we only ever see the gastrodon from sinnoh...
I think a game with Light/Dark pokemon would be pretty cool. Could have another Black/White situation where both legendaries show up in the main story with your Evil Team Rival getting one. One legendary having the power to corrupt pokemon (Dark) and another that purifies them (Light) depending on which version you get.
I think with XD and colosseum, I believe the devs have never played a Pokémon game before developing those titles(can't remember if it was both or one or the other) so most likely they told the devs that Pokémon can have alternate colours, and since they've never played a Pokémon game before they just went with whatever they thought fit
Anyone else love that this exclusively pokemon channel is and has always been called "Hoops and Hiphop" but neither of those 2 topics are ever spoken of on the channel?
It’s almost like they were afraid to go all out with arceus. I would love it if there was an actual present day sinnoh sequel series set in modern day with arceus as one of the featured legendary
Also, I do not count the "wrong" Shiny forms of Pokemon from the Pokemon games set in the Orre Region as an entirely different form of Shiny Pokemon. We've seen throughout the generations of the main series games of Pokemon, where there has often had some Shiny Pokemon that are a different color than in a different game. If I recall correctly, Shiny Charizard in Gen 2, was Purple, but later Gens instead made Charizard's Shiny form black-colored. I treat the wrong color of Shiny Pokemon in Colosseum and XD Gale of Darkness, as the same sort of case of some Shinies having an inconsistent color palette throughout the generations.
I entirely forgot about Light Pokemon, thanks for reminding me. I think I've seen that Light Machamp card artwork somewhere before, but I cannot remember if I actually owned the card at some point in the past, or I saw it in a book or on the Internet and just quickly forgot about it
Are the light pokemon just rebranded to purified pokemin like the ones in Pokemon Go? When you purify a shadow (aka dark?) pokemon the stats change/lvl up and you need less candies to evolve and power up its CP.
i really wish they'd make light an actual type though tbh. most types that we have have a counterpart or are in a trio of some sorts, and it would fit so perfectly. examples being: fairy/dragon ghost/normal fighting/psychic grass/water/fire.... etc. it only makes sense to have dark/light
Dark is a counterpart to fighting. Dark is based on underhanded or dirty fighting tactics, and is actually “evil” in Japanese. So its match is the heroic fighting type
I have the answer to how the Colosseum and XD Gale of Darkness shinies came about. It was late generation 3, coming close to but not quite reaching the Era of gen 4 with the DS and Wii. At the time, shiny pokemon colors were randomly designed by an algorithm, which is why there are so many blue pokemon that turned pink. And that worked fine for the 2d games, as the algorithm could be carried over from sprite to sprite. But the algorithm didn't work on 3d models like the game cube games had. Either a new algorithm was used when making models, or the color codes on the models were different from the colors on the sprites, resulting in changes to the shiny forms of the 3d pokemon. Those forms are just the game cube versions of the shinies, which is why when they were transferred to other games, they became standard shiny pokemon. They were never meant to be different, but it would've been difficult to fix such a rare and unimportant detail, so they were left as is.
Well the first introduction of crystal pokèmon was in 1999 for me before the tcg released there’s on the crystal onix episode, so I guess people forgot bout that huh. As for the arceus form well bird keeper Toby I do believe came up with a theory on that one, aside from them good vid
1) Gastrodon (with a bigger shell) 2) "light" Pokémon from the TCG (opposed to "shadow" Pokémon like from the GameCube game) 3) Arceus (since we have only ever had a fragment of itself, plus in the pokedex it mentions Arceus and its "thousands arms") 4) "Crystal type" Pokémon from the TCG (like the Terastalization in Gen 9?) 5) second type of shiny Pokémon from the GameCube games
You missed the Pokémon Stadium 2 alternate shinies! Mewtwo has a black tail and stomach instead of green, and I wish it was the shiny form they went with! Honestly, you could probably do a whole video just on how nicknames affect the coloration of Pokémon in the Stadium games. There's spreadsheets on the Web that show how it works!
Hold up. The Arceus one is a bit of a stretch. He gave you a piece of him but that's not to say that the one you fight/catch isn't the full form. It could give you a piece of it and still be caught
@HoopsandHipHop 11:15 Okay, what is that music? I heard it on The Holon Phantom's channel, which also usually features Pokémon game music, but I assumed it was a piece of pop culture music because it featured a guy's voice. But hearing it on TWO Pokémon UA-cam channels that use Pokémon game music? It has to be from one of the games, right?
Cool video but i think arceus having a separate form is a huge reach, even more when considering origin dialga and palkia incorporate arceus current design into their forms
I think it's important to clarify: colusium and XD are main series pokemon games! Let's get down what a main series game is. A main series game is 1 that you play as a trainer catching pokemon*, filling in a pokedex, & playing through a story. *those pokemon have to be able to be moved to what is now pokemon home. Obvious exceptions for partner pikachu/eevee, scruffy pichu, and cosplay pikachu. With different types of games like sun & moon, PLA, and let's go E/P which each respectively lack gyms, an elite four & badge system at all, & wild encounter battles we need to reclarify and redefine what a main series poke on game is and pokemon colusium and XD are as much a respect to the main series as any of those other deviant games and are actually vital to completing your origional gen 3 pokedexs.
The colosseum and XD shiny difference is because the shinies were generated by a code previously. This explains why there are a lot of ugly green shinies, and why some pokémon have shinies that barely differ in color from their original counterpart. Their shiny forms are based on the colors of the place they are found if I'm correct, and they copy-pasted the code, not taking into consideration what it truly does.
It would indeed be cool if "second shinies" or alternately colored pokemon were a thing in the mainline pokemon games. One can only hope that it will actually happen in a future pokemon game! If it did happen, that would be a revolutionary pokemon game, and makes it unique in it's own way. If I had to guess where something like that would occur, my guess would be a region of Japan that hasn't been made into a traditional pokemon region yet. Or maybe it would happen on one of those Orange Island equivalents. It would be cool if they made the Orre region a mainline pokemon region. It has a lot of potential. Or if they could rerelease XD Gale of Darkness or Colluseum again on the switch, that would be great. But I guess I shouldn't get my hopes up, as per usual. I suppose as long as they make great pokemon games going forward, I'll be happy.
I have had the same thoughts, they might implement it when they run out of ideas or try to recapture player base. They kinda introduced it with square shinies.
I feel like the Light vs Dark Pokémon is more of a reflection of how the player builds the Pokémon’s move set; with the Light being more defensive and strategic and the Dark being more offensive and unga-bunga beat down.

@@cairneoleander8130 also, I'm sorry my responses are always so long, I just gotta get all my thoughts out at once or I forget them.
I was hoping deltas would be mentioned, but I'm not sure if they're well known or not, they were my introduction to the TCG (and responsible for me being wrong about many types), and they're actually very fascinating because there was a whole lore and region surrounding them with the Holon region! I wonder if that might work for an obscure regions video, Southern Islands is another obscure TCG-only region. I wish they'd do that in the TCG again because as a kid it was fun to piece together this little region that only existed in the card games haha
Was that the one with the orange archipelago and that island with pink Pokémon or the giant pokemon one?
@@wnrr2696 You're thinking of the Orange Islands in the anime! This set didn't come with any alternative forms, but the cards had connected artwork
I was wondering if Delta pokemon would have come up as well. I was always fond of delta species as a concept and thought it was really cool.
@@UnclearMotives I am unfamiliar with these
@@wnrr2696 I don't really know much about the specifics myself other than the basic premise. Was never a huge follwer in the tcg space. Though after some thought I wonder if itwas a source of inspiration for regional forms as it shares the whole "This species has a different type in this region." concept.
Light Toxtrixity getting a promo card in the 25th anniversary TCG set that's explicitly celebrating every mechanic in the games history makes total sense. We have a Dark Sylveon. An owner's Pokemon. We had a Zacian Lv X. The only thing we didn't get was a new ex, EX and GX card.
Square shiny Pokémon are another special shiny that people often don’t know about. In SwSh, there’s a small chance that a shiny Pokémon has “square” sparkles rather than the star shaped ones.
It’s a percent chance on a (slightly easier) shiny chance! It’s crazy that square shinies were introduced so nonchalantly
Except gastrodon isn't gen 3 at all
@@JustinAdamson270 beta content, check bulbapedia

@@chimuoma390 this is a Pokémon video tho so digimon doesn’t matter here
No.
I was interested in it so I searched up other Arceus True Forms.......
Turns out its a mega, still cool tho
If Light pokemon appear one day, it had BETTER be in a remake/revisit of Colosseum & XD, make it so Nintendo!
Speaking of crystal/terrestalize Pokémon, in the anime there’s a special crystal Onix that lives in the water.
In the TCG theirs also Delta pokemon that are Steel Type exclusive mostly, in others the typing do change
The form design for the Pokemon looks pretty cool, the entry does give interesting info
If Gastrodon does have an ancient alternate form then Pokemon really missed the mark by not including it in Legends Arceus. Tho I wonder if said form was mistaken by the people of Sinnoh for Goodra.
Such a missed opportunity for that Gastrodon form to not appear in Legends: Arceus. Would've added one more Hisuian form to the roster.
In the card game there are both dark and light pokemon, not types but something else entirely, I would like to see them in the games.
The gastrodon sounds like hisuian goodra, it goes from purple to pink and blue makes sense and it has a hard metal shell. Must have just evolved off of it.
I was thinking that maybe they’d forgotten Gastrodon and slapped that bit of lore into Hisuian Goodra as I watched this 😂
12:48 Your Diglett evolved into Larry the Cucumber!
Wasn't there a crystal onyx in the anime?
@@jaye4157 Yes there was. It was season 2 episode 7.
Been watching these types of videos for years and still enjoy them even when I know the facts but this was all new to me! Amazing video man keep it up!
4:07 when I was a kid I had a dark celebi card that was grass type but also counted as dark type.
Love that shelled Gastrodon. ❤
They just wanted to make Diglett a pickle.
I hope Shellos and Gastrodon get the North and South Sea form as well as the shelled form version, so who knows tbh
When you talked about the canonical shelled Gastrodon, my first thought was a _conical_ shelled Gastrodon so now that's my head canon
My friend's older brother had a huge Pokemon card collection that contained tons of light and dark Pokemon! I'm sure he had a couple Crystal ones too!
I think with XD and colosseum, I believe the devs have never played a Pokémon game before developing those titles(can't remember if it was both or one or the other) so most likely they told the devs that Pokémon can have alternate colours, and since they've never played a Pokémon game before they just went with whatever they thought fit
I think it’s safe to say that the Arceus we see is just a physical extension of its entirety.
maybe we could see gastrodon in a new legends game
Oh, the Light Pokémon might be referenced in Purified Shadow Pokémon in Go; they shine with a unique light
He said they're not in the main series
Anyone else love that this exclusively pokemon channel is and has always been called "Hoops and Hiphop" but neither of those 2 topics are ever spoken of on the channel?
What if Lumina phomonimon are light Pokemon from the new Pokemon Snap?
It’s almost like they were afraid to go all out with arceus. I would love it if there was an actual present day sinnoh sequel series set in modern day with arceus as one of the featured legendary
Lol you almost got be there towards the end! Thought you were going to say square shinies
So the Arceus we catch was actually just like a zygard core lol
Or A 10% Zygarde
The theory of Arecus being a hand makes a lot more sense after watching your videos.
The bike theme song is great. Thanks for making it.
I entirely forgot about Light Pokemon, thanks for reminding me. I think I've seen that Light Machamp card artwork somewhere before, but I cannot remember if I actually owned the card at some point in the past, or I saw it in a book or on the Internet and just quickly forgot about it
I made a “light” form in a fan made game concept I’ve been working on for a while lol
Are the light pokemon just rebranded to purified pokemin like the ones in Pokemon Go? When you purify a shadow (aka dark?) pokemon the stats change/lvl up and you need less candies to evolve and power up its CP.
Is Gastrodon related to the Goomy line at all? Hisuian Goodra has a shell
8:00 why did you not use beta aceus
i really wish they'd make light an actual type though tbh. most types that we have have a counterpart or are in a trio of some sorts, and it would fit so perfectly. examples being:
fairy/dragon
ghost/normal
fighting/psychic
grass/water/fire.... etc.
it only makes sense to have dark/light
In the games the Fairy type effectively acts as a Light type
Dark is a counterpart to fighting. Dark is based on underhanded or dirty fighting tactics, and is actually “evil” in Japanese. So its match is the heroic fighting type
Can’t wait for Legenda: Celebi and we get to see Dark Lucia and the Dark bird trio emerge 😍😍😍
The true form of arceus was probably shown as the ball of light at the beginning of the game
1) Gastrodon (with a bigger shell)
2) "light" Pokémon from the TCG (opposed to "shadow" Pokémon like from the GameCube game)
3) Arceus (since we have only ever had a fragment of itself, plus in the pokedex it mentions Arceus and its "thousands arms")
4) "Crystal type" Pokémon from the TCG (like the Terastalization in Gen 9?)
5) second type of shiny Pokémon from the GameCube games
You missed the Pokémon Stadium 2 alternate shinies! Mewtwo has a black tail and stomach instead of green, and I wish it was the shiny form they went with!
Honestly, you could probably do a whole video just on how nicknames affect the coloration of Pokémon in the Stadium games. There's spreadsheets on the Web that show how it works!
I feel like the Delta Species Pokémon from the TCG need an honorable mention here!
Hold up. The Arceus one is a bit of a stretch. He gave you a piece of him but that's not to say that the one you fight/catch isn't the full form. It could give you a piece of it and still be caught
❤I really like this video! besides only a possibility of a game giveaway. what if we already support your Spotify? either way great work
they should've brang the original crystals back into the game rather than the new tera stuff
It would be cool if we could get a 10% form or 5% form of Arceus similar to zygarde but can't go over 40%-49%
@HoopsandHipHop 11:15 Okay, what is that music? I heard it on The Holon Phantom's channel, which also usually features Pokémon game music, but I assumed it was a piece of pop culture music because it featured a guy's voice. But hearing it on TWO Pokémon UA-cam channels that use Pokémon game music? It has to be from one of the games, right?
i’m surprised that shelled gastrodon didn’t appear in legends arceus!
Dang kinda wish we had a hisuian gastrodon with a shell now
Cool video but i think arceus having a separate form is a huge reach, even more when considering origin dialga and palkia incorporate arceus current design into their forms
I still have a bunch of those light pokemon cards, they are alright
I think it's important to clarify: colusium and XD are main series pokemon games!
Let's get down what a main series game is.
A main series game is 1 that you play as a trainer catching pokemon*, filling in a pokedex, & playing through a story.
*those pokemon have to be able to be moved to what is now pokemon home. Obvious exceptions for partner pikachu/eevee, scruffy pichu, and cosplay pikachu.
With different types of games like sun & moon, PLA, and let's go E/P which each respectively lack gyms, an elite four & badge system at all, & wild encounter battles we need to reclarify and redefine what a main series poke on game is and pokemon colusium and XD are as much a respect to the main series as any of those other deviant games and are actually vital to completing your origional gen 3 pokedexs.
we have to remember that Corphish has another variant mentioned in the pokedex
A second shiny form or RANDOMISED shinys with differences would be epic.
Great content👏👏👏
“Hey we got our new Pokémon games taking place in ancient sinnoh , should we give gastrodon its shell ?”
“Nah give it to Goodra”
Missed opportunity of having a dlc with legends. We could fix the legend plate and Bring forth the true form of Arceus.
Personally Iv been a fan of the greyscale or black and white monocrhom idea thats floated around the internet.
My pokesona as a child to adulthood was a gray Sandshrew and it took me until last year to realize it was gen2 and colosseum shiny.
It was a big let down that they did not show the ancient shelldon in legends.
How come nobody ever mentions the Crystal Onyx that was in the anime?!
