  • All Christians believe that Mary conceived Jesus as a virgin, but only some Christians believe that she remained a virgin her entire life. Why do Catholics maintain her perpetual virginity, and where does the belief come from?

As i know and hear from other preachers Mary remained a virgin even after the birth of Jesus, but she had born 4 more children to St,Joseph and it change her nature of being a virgin,i had read it in the bible too.

For the supremacy of Jesus as God,Mary in personal connection to God remained a virgin,it is hard to accept that she no longer virgin after the birth of his children to StJoseph,it might become also a contradiction for Jesus as God, reason muslims do not accept Jesus as God only Jesus is prophet to Islams.

Even as a Protestant, I believed in Mary's perpetual virginity. I just can't imagine Joseph would approach her in that way. Sure, he had rights to her as her husband, but she had been the vessel that brought for the flesh and blood child of the living God.

Think about this: it is necessary that Mary was a virgin to conceived Christ (to prove he was the son of God), but there was no necessity afterwards, but the prophesy of Isaiah mentions before + After. Does not make sense to concede the virginity after giving birth if she was going to lose it latter. Secondly if Christ is the only begotten Son of God the father does make sense that his human part is also the only son of Mary. Finally, Christ is the definitive son of Israel why there will be another? If Mary had another sons they would have been a sort of celebrities and surely we would have some strong evidence of them; but we do not have. I hope this helps.

@@RicardoGarcia-ib8ro I appreciate your reply. I don't know why you think I need help understanding what I have always believed as a simple fact, that Mary was simply a virgin before and after the conception and birth of Christ. I had the same idea about St. Joseph. There was a reason why God chose him to be Mary's husband and the "earthly" father to His Son. In reading the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, you can get a sense of St. Joseph's character. I feel the God saw him as the right man for the job, so to speak.

@@albertchin1050 I definitely feel that way because first, Joseph would have to accept the situation, that Mary was pregnant and the baby wasn't his. And he would have the awesome responsibility of coparenting the Son of God. They would have to be both extraordinary people.

Romans 3:4 Let God be true, and every human being a liar.
Galatians 1:8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, the virgin shall conceive, and bear a son and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isa. 7:14).
She was a virgin when the Holy Ghost overshadowed her. A virgin is clean and untouched.
“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was in this way: When as his mother, Mary, was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit” (Mt. 1:18).
Joseph was so disappointed that he wanted to leave her. We can imagine the feelings he had. “Then Joseph, her promised husband, being a just man, not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privately.” He wanted no scandal but was aggravated and therefore decided to leave her quietly. “But while he thought on these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary, thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit” (Mt. 1:19-20).
Here we find the first statement that Mary who was espoused to Joseph later became his wife. Those who read the context will find out that Joseph acted precisely according to the instruction given unto him. “… did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife, and knew her not till she had brought forth her first-born son; and he called his name Jesus” (vs. 24-25). This is a very clear statement. Only after the birth of Jesus Christ had they family relations. From this marriage, four sons and daughters whose number is not given came forth. “Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And his brethren James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us?” (Mt. 13:55-56). This is the scriptural truth. All other ideas which are meant to honour Mary are purposely formulated and invented.

When Jesus saw HIS MOTHER there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, 'WOMAN, here is your son,' 27 and to the disciple, 'Here is your mother.' From that time on, this disciple took her into his home." (John 19:25-27)
Jesus called His mother, Mary "WOMAN": Nothing is impossible for a great Savior as God:" Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy," Jude 14.
"But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible." Mat. 19:26
Scipture tells us the angel said to the chosen WOMAN : "rejoice, full of grace, the Lord is with thee".

@@Alfredo8059 The person that stops the serpent's head is Jesus. Mary only carries Him to birth. There is nothing anywhere that says God made her sin-free in her mother's womb. There is nothing saying God ever made her sin-free. The Holy Spirit kept Jesus sin-free while Mary was carrying her. So He would not be stained by her sin nature. Rev. 12 is not talking about Mary at all. It is talking about Jesus being a Jew from Israel. Catholics fail to read the whole Chapter. They get hung up on the first couple of verses. Gal. 4:4 is about Mary but there is nothing suggesting she was anything special. There is no capital w in the verse.

Matthew 1:25 says that Joseph didn’t “know” his wife until after Jesus was born. To say that a man “knew” his wife and then she conceived was used a few times in Genesis.

    • @briansardinas1359
      @briansardinas1359 3 роки тому +10

@@sailorarwen6101 that verse is merely emphasizing the virgin birth of Jesus. The word "until" as used many times in the Bible does not imply a future action. For example:
Genesis 6-7 we see: "At the end of forty days Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made, and sent forth a raven; and it went to and fro UNTIL the waters were dried up from the earth." But we see that Raven stopped returning well before that. That's why Noah then sends out a dove to do the scouting.
1 Corinthians 15:25: ”For he (Christ) must reign UNTIL he has put all his enemies under his feet.” Does this mean that Jesus' reign will end? Of course not.
The commentary of the Church Fathers further supports this interpretation:
St. Jerome AD 420: "So here the Evangelist informs us, in that wherein there might have been room for error, that she was not known by her husband until the birth of her Son, that we might thence infer that much less was she known afterwards. Lastly, I would ask, Why then did Joseph abstain at all up to the day of birth? He will surely answer, Because of the Angel’s words, “That which is born in her” He then who gave so much heed to a vision as not to dare to touch his wife, would he, after he had heard the shepherds, seen the Magi, and known so many miracles, dare to approach the temple of God, the seat of the Holy Spirit, the Mother of his Lord?"
Just imagine you were in Joseph's position. Would you touch the Mother of God?

    • @sailorarwen6101

Brian Sardinas you’re stating the obvious. I’m not questioning the virgin birth. It wouldn’t fulfill prophesy if Mary didn’t stay a virgin throughout her pregnancy. I’m pointing out that the verse says he didn’t KNOW her until after the baby was born. Which certainly means they continued on as a married couple once Christ was born. As evident in Genesis. “Knew” implies intimacy between husband and wife.

Hebrews 1:13 and 1 Timothy 4:13 are similar examples. When we interpret any passage, we must consider what the author was trying to say. Quite honestly, does it really matter if Mary was or wasn't a virgin for life? The main thing is that she was a virgin when she conceived Jesus. It was a spiritual conception. She was/is the mother of God. I don't know for sure if she was a virgin for ever. I don't think it matters.

It's more a question of sacredness: she was consecrated by carrying Jesus in her womb (He's God!) so another pregnancy would be like me using a sacred coup for drinking whiskey, like using the sancta sanctorum of the Temple for a secular party. So, if someone questions it, it feels like a desecration.

I believe its relevant in the sense that if you understand sacredness.
Mary was consecrated yo God for the specific sacred purpose of bringing Jesus into the world.
In scripture once someone or something is consecrated or set apart for God's use that person or thing cannot be used for anything else.

I agree. The Bible doesn't say if Mary's cousin Elizabeth had any more children after she gave birth to John The Baptist and it doesn't matter so why not the same about Jesus? In the Old Testament women who couldn't conceive because they were"barren" or past child baring age became pregnant when God made it possible. The Bible is silent on weither some of these women had further children. Also not EVERYTHING is known about all the people in the Bible. For example we don't know of the family situation of all the prophets ie did they have wives/children/ biological brothers and sisters or the name of their parents? Did any of these facts affect the way they served God? No. In my view the fact weither Mary remained a perpetual Virgin didn't make any difference in Jesus' ministry and sacrifice for our sins. I'm a Protestant(Church Of Ireland) and in our Apostle and Nicene Creed we say that Jesus was "Born of the Virgin Mary" and that's it,no statement of weither Mary remained a virgin or not and therefore does it have any bearing on Jesus dieing for our salvation. Again no..

It does matter because it a supposed prophecy. Though some suggest the error of the whole story is greater. I understand this is a sincere and passionate issue for many people, so I do not take the issue lightly or disrespectfully. However, I do not understand the necessity or drive to believe she remained a virgin after the birth of Jesus. I understand why she needed to be a virgin prior to his birth, but why afterwards? Is there a prophetical or biblical reason necessitating it?
I understand the drive to believe this today may be driven in large part due to tradition and statements by the Church. However, was the earlier thought driven more by cultural values that virginity is a better, or more pure, way for a woman to live and thus Mary would be more pure because of remaining a virgin? If so, I would say the Bible tells us she was married. Having children during marriage is by no means less pure to God than virginity during marriage.

Well one could easily argue that Jesus didn't always follow Jewish custom, see Matthew 15, and Mark 7. Why did Jesus entrust Mary to John? Simple!
      Matthew 12:46-50
While He was still talking to the multitudes, behold, His mother and brothers stood outside, seeking to speak with Him. Then one said to Him, “Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You.”
But He answered and said to the one who told Him, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers! FOR WHOEVER DOES THE WILL OF MY FATHER IN HEAVEN IS MY BROTHER AND SISTER AND MOTHER.” NKJV
      John 7:1-5
After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; for He did not want to walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill Him. Now the Jews’ Feast of Tabernacles was at hand. His brothers therefore said to Him, “Depart from here and go into Judea, that Your disciples also may see the works that You are doing. For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.” FOR EVEN HIS BROTHERS DID NOT BELIEVE IN HIM. NKJV
Why would Jesus entrust His mother to his unbelieving brothers when His true brethren are those who do the will of God?
      Matthew 10:37
He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. NKJV
Jesus clearly put brothers and sisters in the faith above those of biological family.
      Mark 10:28-30
Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.” So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time-HOUSES AND BROTHERS AND SISTERS AND MOTHERS AND CHILDREN AND LANDS, with persecutions-and in the age to come, eternal life. It is related to her being pure of sin, just as she was pure of virginity.
You may say "Why does any of this matter"
It's important to have a knowledge on things. Christ said that you need the FAITH of a child to enter Heaven. Not knowledge.
That being said, you cannot have a faith, with little truth, you need the truth and facts to support it. There's a reason Christ taught when He was on Earth, then gave his teaching authority to the Apostles, then the Apostles to their successors and so on. Learning is important. If it didn't matter, Christ wouldn't have given teaching power to the Apostles.

      1. She was never immaculately conceived (born sinless)
      2. She never ascended bodily into heaven.
      3. There is no biblical title of Queen of heaven except for a demonic idol in Jeremiah or other pagan godesses.

What he has contributed to the modern world, along with other reformers, is that they risked their lives to ensure that I have a bible in my hands and in my language so that I can study it to show myself approved unto God according to PAUL'S Instruction.
Well I can see post reformation that the catholic church also realised that Jesus no longer had a problem with the Bible being in the people's language.
Jesus probably realised that Martin luther, et. al, were correct and conveyed it to the Vicar of Christ a little late. But as they say, better late than never.

We agree Mary needed a saviour. Inmaculate Conception dogma says she was preserved of sin by God's power and grace, Who reconciled her with Himself from the sin of Adam. If He hadn't, she would have need his forgiveness after sinning, and if refused, she would have ended in hell. We all desesperatelly need the Doctor: we simply believe one of us got the vaccine and the rest get the medicine.
This said, virginity doesn't have anything to do with the Inmaculate Conception. I'm a virgin and still a sinner.

Whenever the Lord requires something to be dedicated to Him, it must always be something completely unblemished, unused previously and be put to no other purpose but for the Lord. Bernard Bernstein - It certainly matters. Mary (being an innocent 13/14 year old girl), is said to have been a virgin to the day she died - even though she conceived by the Holy Spirit (remote artificial insemination) & she was chosen as a surrogate mother - to make it more understandable. Having other biological children is not acceptable even if she was married to Joseph because he was old & chosen by God to father and give stability to Mary & her baby - Jesus. Procreation between Joseph & Mary wasn't part of the divine plan, hence Mary did not at any time have sexual relations with an earthly being - therefore the children had to have been Joseph's from previous marriages or a previous partnership.

2)with a fertilised egg from another male & female

Many are making all sorts of arguments that sound reasonable but the bible speaks for itself. Sorry Friar but your whole video has been annulled by this one piece of scripture.

That's not what Scripture says. It says: He had no relations with her until she bore a son,* and he named him Jesus.
It means only that Mary was the virgin prophesized to be the mother of the Messiah. She had not relations right up until she bore Jesus. That's ALL. And that is the way that Scripture often uses the word "until". Take for example:
2 Samuel 6:23: And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to (until) the day of her death. (Does this mean she had children after she died?)
1 Timothy 4:13: Until I come, attend to the public reading of scripture, to preaching, to teaching. (Does this mean Timothy should stop teaching after Paul comes?)
1 Corinthians 15:25: For he (Christ) must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. (Does this mean Christ’s reign will end? By no means! Luke 1:33 says, “he will reign over the house of Jacob forever and of his kingdom there shall be no end.”)

John Calvin: "Helvidius has shown himself too ignorant, in saying that Mary had several sons, because mention is made in some passages of the brothers of Christ."8 Calvin translated "brothers" in this context to mean cousins or relatives.
Ulrich Zwingli: "I firmly believe that Mary, according to the words of the gospel as a pure Virgin brought forth for us the Son of God and in childbirth and after childbirth forever remained a pure, intact Virgin."12 Zwingli used Exodus 4:22 to defend the doctrine of Mary's perpetual virginity.
When Protestantism began it affirmed Mary's perpetual virginity. But you changed your doctrine. Since God does not change his mind that means either that you are wrong now or that the foundation of Protestantism is sand.

When Jesus returned from the Wedding at Cana, it says he returned to Capernaum with his Mother and brothers, and his disciples. This means they likely lived together in the same household. If they were cousins, there would have been nothing significant about his cousins being there, since it was so close to Nazareth.

@@nabululeuria1891 Exactly. I also have the greatest admiration for Mary. I don't even mind calling her the Virgin Mary, because she was a virgin and gave birth to Messiah. However, scripture says nothing at all about her having any perpetual virginity. Matthew 1.25 in every version of the New Testament that I can find, including the Douay-Rheims Bible (translated from the Latin) states that Joseph did not have marital/sexual relationships with Mary until after Jesus was born. If they didn't have any sexual relationship post Jesus,, why would it be mentioned at all? Sexual relationships bring children and that fits with the Gospels account of Jesus' brotherrs and sisters. There is just no way around it unless you ignore scripture and decide that Church Fathers 400+ years later knew more than the apostles. Mary's perpetual virginity is first promoted by Jerome (a Church Father) some 400 years after Jesus ascended to heaven. There is no mention of perpetual virginity anywhere prior to Jerome. The Gospels were all well and truly written by the time of Jerome, so one would think that such an important doctrine would have been in the New Testament.

@@sunflowerrayne6026 The reasoning that the Catholic Church gives for Mary being "Queen of Heaven" is because of the claim that it follows Davidic Tradition of the "Queen Mother" which was the original form of a queen in Israelite Culture. The Problem with that is it doesn't hold up in Scripture at all, and one would think that, with all 11 Apostles (after Judas obviously), the Gospels being written, Paul's Letters, and even Jesus Himself, there would've been some mention of her position had this been the case. Rather, Jesus took a moment in
Luke 11:27 (As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and blessed are the breasts that nursed You!” 28But He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”)
Jesus had a PERFECT opportunity here to exalt Mary, or rather, reveal to others the position of "Queen of Heaven" as the Catholic Church has supposed. Jesus could've simply said "Yes" and that would've been it, but He didn't.
Also, the "Queen of Heaven" in Jeremiah was referring to the false goddess Ishtar of Babylon, the supposed wife of the false god Ba'al. I'm happy to see that someone did their research and I'm happy that I'm doing mine. I was raised Catholic and for the longest time I held to these beliefs but then something happened. I opened my Bible, lol. I felt convicted by the Holy Spirit before that when trying to say the Hail Mary and so I stopped for a time, and then I started reading Scripture more and more and found nothing to support the claim, but rather found Scripture that pointed elsewhere (that is, Mary having not been a virgin perpetually).
It is an ongoing journey and I'm open to discussion on either "side" so to speak, but the lack of understanding of Scripture on the Catholic "side" is extremely disheartening, but not surprising. But what truly disturbs me is that Mary has been referred to as a "mediator" by some, and as we know, Christ Jesus is our only Mediator between Man and God. So, as time goes on, and I see some people present biblical evidence to the contrary, it seems that many Catholics in their responses seem to only double down without any defense. Not all, but too many. Again, I am a Catholic and it disturbs me. In many cases it seems irrational, or at least it likens to when people just shake their heads when hearing something they don't like, but they cannot prove is untrue. So, again they double down. As someone who is a Catholic, but is re-examining doctrine, that is not a good representation of someone who knows what they believe. Again, I'm not judging or saying that ALL do this, but too many. I think people need to open their bibles like I did and THEN relate theological interpretation to Scripture and judge for themselves. Mary's constant virginity, or lack thereof, does not inhibit one's salvation in Christ Jesus in the slightest. God sent Jesus to save the world, not Mary. Thank you and I hope to hear, or read lol, what you have to say. I'm pleased to see someone in this thread that has a similar opinion/view as I do. Peace be with you and may God bless you in the Name of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Well, let’s say she stayed virgin or she didn’t. What would be the significance of these all in our salvation? I am catholic but just like to focus on Jesus alone. The virginity of Mary when she conceived was significant in order to know that Jesus was conceived through Holy Spirit. After that, if she got married and had children, it doesn’t make her less of mother of Jesus. So why do we need to argue about all that? As long as the Bible doesn’t say clearly, it is all about interpreting it in two different ways.

The perpetual Virginity and the Immaculate Conception are Critical dogmas for salvation.
Mary had to be a Virgin to fulfill the Prophesy of Isaiah.
Mary had to be conceived without original sin so that Jesus' human nature would be also conceived without original sin.
Mary was Created just as God created Eve, without sin.
And the Seed of the woman will crush Satan's head.
If Mary wasn't a perpetual virgin conceived without original sin, the prophesies of the Old Testament would have not been fulfilled. And we now that they were so understanding the Marian dogmas is critical for salvation.

I believe its relevant in the sense that if you understand sacredness.
Mary was consecrated yo God for the specific sacred purpose of bringing Jesus into the world.
In scripture once someone or something is consecrated or set apart for God's use that person or thing cannot be used for anything else.
In the Bible wether you are speaking of the temple, the ark of the covenant, priests, and more in the old testament or of consecrated celibacy, the eucharist marriage or more in the new testament once someone or something is consecrated for God's purpose, to use it for another purpose would be a sin or worst a sacrilege.

If Jesus's "brothers" were actually cousins, and Joseph didn't have more than one wife, wouldn't he be the Virgin Joseph as well? I've never seen this anywhere in my (admittedly limited) studies, and never heard anyone refer to him as such. I think the idea that Joseph was married before or had more than one wife makes more sense. On the other hand, I don't think Mary's virginity after Jesus' birth is that big a deal. If she did have other children with Joseph, it would have been completely natural and not have been a sin.

We know little about St. Joseph, other that he was a just man
There has always been speculation that he was widowed and had other children but nobody has ever been able to come up with documentation.
An unmarried woman with a child would have been unacceptable in that society, in fact, she would have been stoned to death, so how could the Messiah survive?
Mary had to have a husband.
One who knew the whole story and who would be her protector.
It is Catholic belief that St. Joseph was also virgin.
"We believe that just as the Mother of Jesus was a virgin, so was Joseph, because He placed the Virgin in the care of a virgin, and just as He did this at the close of His earthly life, so He did do it at the beginning( of His earthly life ). If the Lord was unwilling to commend His Virgin Mother to the care of anyone except a virgin, how could He have borne the fact that her husband had not been a virgin and remained as such "
      ( St. Thomas Aquinas )
This refers to Jesus, from the cross, entrusting Our Lady to the care of St. John, as He had no brothers or sisters to care for His widowed mother.

Ill sum up my understanding for you...
Fr did however mention the state of Imacculate being present in early councils. This is truly the dogma of the Imaculate Conception combined with Revelation on the ark/woman and the transfer of the ark by David in Samuel. To be Immaculate is to be without sin. Without Christian baptism how does this come about considering the dogma of sin?
Therefore Mary had to be sinless from birth and as Angel Gabriel states "Full of Grace" (not just granted grace, but completely wholly full of grace). So she was gifted this privilege from God, which when you think about it is less of a leap than a virgin birth. She necessarily had to be completely sinless as she was to be the New Ark. If she wasn't then she would have died on contact with the Divine. See Samuel.
This is also why it had to be a virgin birth as the OT makes it clear that while good and proper intercourse makes one unclean and the act of marriage requires Intercourse for completion both then and now. So she had to be a virgin and she had to be Immaculate.
      Regards Dogma...
I understand that the "infalability" dogma/power has only be applied twice and it was for the Assumption of Mary and the Immaculate Conception. I understand that it is only applied under strict rules and that confirms long held beliefs that should be recognised based on long theologic tradition.

      "The Affirmative Argument
Now let’s look at some reasons to believe in Mary’s perpetual virginity. Among the many we could examine, we will briefly consider three:
      1. In Luke 1:34, when Mary was told by the angel Gabriel that she was chosen to be the Mother of the Messiah, she asked the question, literally translated from the Greek, “How shall this be since I know not man?” This question makes no sense unless Mary had a vow of virginity.
When we consider that Mary and Joseph were already “espoused,” according to verse 27 of this same chapter, we understand Mary and Joseph already have what would be akin to a ratified marriage in the New Covenant. They were married. That would mean Joseph would have had the right to the marriage bed. Normally, after the espousal the husband would go off and prepare a home for his new bride and then come and receive her into his home where the union would be consummated. This is precisely why Joseph intended to “divorce her quietly” (Mt 1:19) when he later discovered she was pregnant.
This background is significant because a newly married woman would not ask the question “How shall this be?” She would know-unless, of course, that woman had taken a vow of virginity. Mary believed the message, but wanted to know how this was going to be accomplished. This indicates she was not planning on the normal course of events for her future with Joseph.
      2. In John 19:26, Jesus gave his Mother to the care of John even though by law the next eldest sibling would have the responsibility to care for her. It is unthinkable that Jesus would take his Mother away from his family in disobedience to the law.
Some claim Jesus did this because his brothers and sisters were not there. They had left him. Thus, Jesus committed his Mother to John, who was faithful and present at the foot of the cross. This claim betrays a very low and unbiblical Christology. As John tells us, Jesus “knew all men” (cf. Jn 2:25). If James were his uterine brother, Jesus would have known he would be faithful along with his “brother” Jude. The fact is Jesus had no brothers and sisters, so he had the responsibility, on a human level, to take care of his Mother.
      3. Mary is depicted as the spouse of the Holy Spirit in Scripture. In Luke 1:34, when Mary asks the angel how she will conceive a child, the angel responds: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.”
This is nuptial language hearkening back to Ruth 3:8, where Ruth said to Boaz “spread your skirt over me” when she revealed to him his duty to marry her according to the law of Deuteronomy 25. When Mary became pregnant, Joseph would have been required to divorce her because she would then belong to another (see Dt 24:1-4; Jer 3:1). But when Joseph found out that “the other” was the Holy Spirit, the idea of his having conjugal relations with Mary was not a consideration." -- Tim Staples, Catholic Answers, "The Case for Mary's Perpetual Virginity."

@@marcusmoore5191 apparently. Nor does it say that Mary was the new Ark of the Covenant. Would Christ not have been the "New Ark" so to speak since He is literally God in the flesh? Would Christ not be the Arc that saved His people from the judgment? Aka the flood?

Matthew 13:55-56 is pretty clear, "Is this not the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren James, Joses, Simon and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us?" The simple and correct understanding of the text is that the nuclear family is being referred to: the father, mother and children are all being referenced. It is the natural reading of the text.

Jesus, was often referred to as the Light of the world. Light, by it's nature does not break things, but passes through things without breakage.

And we know by the Holy Scriptures that Our Lord revealed to 3 of his apostles his DIVINE and TRUE NATURE (Pure Light) during the TRANSFIGURATION.
