Jump Topspin by Michael Seemann

- Nobody would dispute that the jump spin serve can be a huge weapon in volleyball. But Portland State coach Michael Seemann makes the point here that a jump topspin serve without heat isn't much of a weapon at all.
His point: Use the floater until a player is able to bring the noise with the jump spin. And, as he explains, a fast-moving jump spin is even more effective if it cuts to the right or left.
Here, Seemann narrates as 2 of his best jump-spinners demonstrate the technique they use to get heat and cut on the ball.

I have a girl on my team that has a wicked fast top spin. We'll play with other teams serve receive by going deep end line, making them move back. Then she will go top spin middle court. Very effective! I highly recommend having different serves to keep the other team out of system. Especially with everyone serving floaters.
I'd dread to have a last name like that
My language arts teacher was Mrs. Seamen
HAHAHA
He changed his name… it’s how he found his bf.
Also another video I used to learn from for my top spin. Thx.

DID WHITNEY EVER MAKE IT PRO
There is one named Whitney playing in finnish pro league🤔
I became confuse now cause i couldn't find any differences between jump serve and jump topspin serve? Could you clear my confusion?
i’m no volleyball coach but a jump topspin is a jump serve with a topspin on the ball, and it’s a generally fast and powerful serve. a jump serve in general is pretty self explanatory and there’s different types of jump serves (eg. jump float, jump topspin)
What does he mean by "heat"?
Power and speed. There really isn't much point choosing a topspin over a float if its not super powerful
Tommy hit*
@@jollibee2896 no. He meant heat. The coach kept saying that they were bringing the heat, which it just means power and speed
This looks nothing like Haikyuu...

My teacher says that top spin is not a good jump serve because it doesn't go in a lot in the court.
It's all a matter of Risk vs Reward. A spin serve is used because you can put a lot more power behind it than you can on a float serve. The trade off to this is the higher risk. A rule of thumb for spin serving is that at the end of the night you should be able to be at least 1:1 aces to misses. Even if you are taking power off of it to have more control, a deep or well placed spin serve can still put a lot of pressure on the opposition and the goal is to force a free ball or off speed shot.
Jump Float is better when serving, it unpredictably fall, but it also had its weakness; touching it in a tossing position.
It depends, if you're going to spike it or just serve it. (There is a difference between spiking and serving :P )
@@juliexyg then why is the jump serve almost always professional Olympic players choice?
@@juliexyg jump floats are overrated and not nearly as hard to receive as jump topspin serves.
