Exactly this (ignorance is bliss). As a average watcher I thought this episode was one of the best out of season 2. But seeing his point of view opens my eyes to things I usually would just gloss over

Normally i completely agree with you on JJK, but man not every drawing is gonna be 100% perfectly detailed and drawn like a closeup. There’s not a single anime that does that lol

I think he's saying relative to other episodes this season, the drawing quality wasn't as polished this week. Tbh tho, I didn't really care about that because most of the close ups were fine and the key action was amazing

JJK fans here are weirdly adverse to criticism of their show. There's nothing wrong with constructively criticizing the animation, as it informs people on the flaws of the show and allows the studio to receive feedback to improve their product.
It's also well-known at this point that animators were overworked and on a tight deadline due to MAPPA. The animators themselves said it wasn't as polished as it could be. Saying, "I don't care, everything is perfect!" is a disservice to this anime and the animators themselves.
And the owner of this channel is literally an animator, so even the criticism that this person doesn't know what they're talking about doesn't hold water.
Yea, that's the whole point of a review, but the general populace still struggles to comprehend that term.
Also, I wouldn't call myself an animator tbh, I try to animate every once in a while. I'm simply fascinated by this subject, which is why I pay attention to it, and try to learn. I'm far more of a fan than an animator, although animating is fun...

The animation isn't perfect, but saying that last week's episode didn't even deserve to be aired on TV was a hilariously brain-dead take.

They're also extremely over critical. Even JJK at it's worst looks better than 90% of all other anime. JJK standards are so high to some fans that this leads to a lot of unfair hate and criticism that other anime would never receive for similar quality.
@@Hoopr32 Are you stupid? there are tons of animes having better animation than JJK when its at its worse or even good, atleast a decent show has consistent animation and good fight choreography, not taking too big of a risk where stuff lose proportion and perspective (off character models) which JJK likes to do a lot of times and in many cases fails at it. Its also a lot of subjectivity when it comes to animation, its not all about pushing out frames when there is storyboarding, proper keyframing, visual style, editing, cgi, etc. Honestly if people want to see godlike animation go watch "Memories (1995) - Magnetic Rose and Stink Bomb" it will blow away all modern animation we got today.
Definitely more highlights than cracks.
I thought Sukunas entrance was great. Very menacing and had me on edge the same way the manga did

I mean it was okay enough , he was menacing once summoned , I had imagined in my head that his summoning and him appearing would be more menacing than what was shown but anyways shibuya has till been absolutely average in terms of animation till now , wasn't expecting such a fall back from jjk for one of the greatest arcs
The 2/3 of the 15th episode looked amazing for me, but when it came to Sukuna’s revival part, I was all disappointed, starting from how they animated Jogo feeling Sukuna’s presence and ending it up with completely ruining the manga panel of sukuna cleaning himself, imo this episode gets a solid 8,5/10, if they didn’t ruined Sukuna’s entrance it would’ve been 10/10 episode just like the 13th episode which is the embodiment of perfection to me, that’s all what I wanted to say guys, hope you share my opinion about this one.
Yep, as a manga reader I got CHILLS at that scene. Music and atmosphere was absolutely perfect. And I'm saying that as someone who kinda lost respect for Sukuna (babykuna) in the past chapters, lol. But this reminded me how menacing he actually is.
Its obvious we won't get every ep well animated considering the schedule and I hate the way manabu had done the things here but it still is a god level production considering how much they got.

Sukunas entrance was done great. It was just like the manga but imo Sukunas presence here was even greater and more intimidating. I don’t really see any flaws with that section. Music was perfect as well. Direction there seemed good, regardless of how you view the production imo.
Dunno but I kinda like how inconsistently they draw Jogo. Its funny seeing how his face devolves throughout the episode and for me its become more of a charm of the animation than a flaw.

It's actually not. He gave a lot of praise to the hidden inventory arc and even thinks it's better than JJK season 1. Many fans were already complaining about the animation of the hidden inventory arc. Personally, I agree with probably pretentious. The hidden inventory arc is the best animated arc of the whole JJK series so far. While mainstream audiences think the Good will event arc was the best.

The expectations are high because this show set that standard itself since season 1 even tho season 2's peak are overall Bett than anything we have seen so far in previous installations but it's just inconsistent very visibly even to normal viewers
If he didn't make vids like this, people would be calling this episode peak when it's not(it's still good in his own words).
Watanabe's cuts only look floaty whenever they try to synchronize his character animation with a CGI background but when he animates the background himself like here it looks godly.
JJK season 2 looks amazing but I can’t help but be disappointed knowing if MAPPA didn’t have such crazy deadlines and workload for its animators; how godly this season would have become. Ghosting is kinda unavoidable cus Japanese TV law or something, gotta wait for the blue ray :)
I don't care if they messed up minor details and tried to save time with things like non close up shots, because I got an animated fight that I wanted to see and I enjoyed it alot.
I definitely didn’t notice any of this while watching, aside from the incredibly basic Jogo drawing, which is why I kind of love this channel. ❤
I’ve been thinking of trying out animation some time in the future, and videos like yours are really helpful to people who want to know the animation process and how it comes together. It’s fascinating stuff. 😊
After the next ep I’m not very hopeful but I just hope the animators can get some rest. Poor from mappa, not surprised just disappointed. And that otsuka interview was so out of touch.

High priority episodes as in peaks as the majority of shibuya can be considered high priority 😅. Probably wouldn’t change that much out side if polish it would have been the in between episodes that change the most like 14 , 12 and 11 that were super limited by the schedule
I do really wanna see it all as soon as possible but not if its gonna look janky and unfinished. Since the production is a mess, I really hope they delay it for a week or more so the final episodes can look a little better.

a week delay wont do anything at this point, it would need a 3-6 month long delay and that obviously wont happen.

The Sukuna intro is basically a 1:1 manga recreation, so it's a 50/50 if you like it or not...
I appreciate the detailed breakdowns, as just an average viewer the animation team is doing a great job, yeah somethings aren't perfect, but I'm really impressed with what we are getting. If I had to guess the animation will continue to have some amazing moments with some just okay moments. It's fine with me

People, I know this is A Literal Animation Breakdown, but Please don't get completely Bothered by the Animation! If you set ur standards up on "Perfect" animation, and seek out All the imperfect and insignificant things out of an animation production will just ruin ur experience! Just telling so hopefully everyone will still like JJK as a whole, even if the animation is inconsistent. Plus, we can't blame the team for such a short deadline, shorter than my Aunt's.
I expected the same consistency season 1 had. This season has amazing highs and pretty bad lows and the blame relies solely on Mappa
@@segxvia Jujutsu Kaisen could've been A masterpiece if the Production was given more time. Go back to Heavenly Delusion. The Show was just good. It didn't really feature any "Great" animators, But They were given plenty of time for the project, and oh boy was it spectacular.

Hidden inventory showed what this team is capable of and I wish the scheduling was better for shibuya because some moments suffer . But I am more than satisfied with what we are getting right now ! Can’t wait to watch the bluray version with removed censoring
I appreciate the insight and what you are trying to say but I honestly don't think this needs to be a topic as this is literally MAPPAs fault. We know what the problem is, so why keep talking about it? And putting out depressing content like this for those animators to potentially see? For how much bullshit that MAPPA is putting them through right now, the animators are doing a fantastic job. Those guys are being worked to death. We know what the issues are and we know why they are happening. Just move on.

I disliked the entire toji sequence, Sukuna part had no problems to me tho.

@@ivanlau7262 The guy literally sees shit that you don't notice, he analyses, and he just points out some of the moments with flaws, he's not saying that overrall that this episode was bad, its in the title, "Inconsistent", there were some well made moments and badly made moments. A random redditor would probably either say "Wow this is the greatest episode of anime ever!" or "This is the worst episode of anime ever", both would not be able to understand the other side's arguments because they would both be too clouded by their own pride.
If I see someone complain about even this animation ( I am not saying that this analysis was the unwanted criticism) which is still amazing when you compare it to other anime, yeah those people are spoiled af. They probably live in their mothers basement. The deadline was as bad as the animators statement. Like ngl no one I mean no one who is normal would complain about this episode. The animation yes was rough at some points, but was still like unnoticeable when you are just invested in the heat of the moment.

Bro look at a nelow average drawing and went "thats what I expect from a broken production". Seriously season 2 so far have been a eye candy (for the msot part) imo.season 1 doesnt have as much acrion as this season and the fact they can make it look this good considering its condition,Im impressed. What make and brake this season now is Mahito vs Yuji and Jogo Vs Sukuna (and a bonus special giest anine only would be delighted to see)

Studio mappa is slaving their animators and I could honestly tell from the first arc it’s inconsistent and it’s inconsistent in the detailed animation.

Toji's "teleporting" this episode reminded me of Saitama's "fight" with Flash a few chapters ago.
Always interesting to know what people with much more knowledge about subject feel. For me - i only noticed problems with drawings during your video, in the moment of watching and rewatching it myself i didn't notice it at all.
I felt like the floatiness in toji's fight fit well because of the fact that he was literally fighting/running/floating on water
The only reason I am annoyed with the art direction of the entire season is because the first season was absolutely perfect and this had the potential to be even better.
Mappa have ruined almost every anime
Season 1 did look better for me, but the bad compositing really stuck out to me. Season 2 lacked the details but got better compositing. So both had their goods and bads, but Season one was better for me. But Season two was still good overall.
That sukuna intro was stellar

Pretty sure the backgrounds in dagon's domain looking out of place was intententional.
Wish they showed sukuna stepping toward jogo and the twin with vile melting cursed energy like they did with yuta and rika entering the class room and with the year 1 students.
So it seems like the show will go as expected, great highlights for the fights/important moments and everything in between will be arguably average. Its a shame but im fine with that. Episode 17 will be interesting especially with what its going to be adapting, god knows how they will pull that off

Even thought this season has some animation issues, I like the way it looks better than first season, like first season has incredible animations, but I think it's a bit ugly, maybe is the choice of colors, effects and animations, for example Yuji and Todo vs Hanami, the animation is incredible, but I think it looks kinda ugly, because of the effects and compositions, may be because I like the more "urban" feel of the Shibuya arc with artificial lightnings, for me Yuji vs Choso was peak Jujutsu Kaisen, not only the animation is incredible, the scenes, compositions, lightning and color are incredible, I got myself rewiding the scene over and over
Do other studios have issues like this or mainly Mappa in terms of big studios? Would love to see you make a comparison between Mappa and any other relatively big anime studio.

Why does the brightness/contrast suddenly drop during the highly animated sequence? I thought it was weird the brightness randomly goes up and down. I thought something was wrong when I first saw it.

To me this is so weird because somehow the bar is insanely high for JJK but not other shows ? Like JJK has consistently been pumping out quality animation and episodes as a whole, episode after episode, with consistently amazing art and animation. Sure some scenes arent highlight worthy but they.... shouldnt be ? Thats the very basis of a production, you gotta choose what to push forward and what to just do what needs to be done for it to work. I'd say I'm a very critical person when it comes to visuals when I watch anime and JJK easily blows out of the water 90%+ of all anime. Like the production staff has NOTHING to be ashamed about, this is amazing work. There are so many horrible looking anime out there, this is the cream of the crop.
For example I could say the same things you are nitpicking about JJK here but for the ENTIRETY of the production of something like classroom of the elite which is just.... bad, like consistently bad.

I stopped at the middle, You couldn’t feel the impact of any of the blows. Plus the inconsistency and the slowness of some of the shots. It was like a wannabe cool fight to me. It just didn’t look clean. Every fight has a scene that i like and actually rewatch it for. There wasn’t a single one here for me. But yes. my biggest problem is you cant feel the impact like you can in the choso fight or gojo vs hanami.

@@yungtux8770 it was really bad in episode 15 constantly the image going from bright sunny beach to real dark and back to sun bright again. It’s really distracting. And it’s a shame because the animation looks fine it’s completely killed by the dimming.
@@JKSmith-qs2ii it’s is definitely not completely killed by the dimming. Dimming is a standard thing in a ton of anime and all it does is tone down the colors. Hardly an episode killer.
@@yungtux8770 I don’t see it on the others shows I’m currently watching which are one piece, undead unluck, rurouni kenshin and dr stone. They have zero dimming and ghosting and they look consistent because of it. The reality is that Jujutsu Kaisen has a high amount of dimming. It’s true that dimming was actually acceptable for a little while in jjk but it was back in this most recent episode and it looked distracting. I like JJK and that’s why I’m critical. I think it deserves a better presentation without dimming at least on non tv sources such as streaming.

Management is replaceable, talent is more difficult to replace. The whole idea of management is keeping the ship sailing smoothly for the duration of the voyage. I just can't understand their decision making outside of short term greed and clout. No point in going to the gym ego lifting if you injure yourself and lose the gains. Better to train consistently at 60-80% output over a longer period of time. Basic logic

It's (allegedly) directed by Itsuki Tsuchigami and a good portion of the Hakuyu Go team of animators will work on it. It should be one of the most stacked episodes so far.

As an average watcher I thought the episode was really good, seeing this video showed me how many holes were in the animation though. Nonetheless I still enjoyed the episode.

All hail Watanabe. And that cut of Toji walking is so bad. That flaw is even evident in the OP. Great episode though. I notice the flaws during “calmer scenes” but find it acceptable as long as the scenes where characters pop off are indeed popping off. So far 2 “bad” (8,14) episodes 1 “mid” (11) episode and some flaws here and there in (7, 12, 15)
