He's still got it doesn't he. You can see him oozing comedy professionalism as easy as the rest of us breathe. And you can tell he enjoys and is comfortable with Conan. What a talent. Thanks Conan!
My father introduced me to Bob Newhart’s comedy, when I was a small kid, 50 years ago. He loved the skit about the captain of the submarine and the Driving Instructor. My Dad is now gone, but whenever see or hear Bob Newhart I think of my Dad and the great times we has listening to him.
The inter generational sharing of comedy between father & son is a sacred thing. For me it was the Three Stooges & Jonathan Winters that remind me of my dad....Oh, & Benny Hill as well.
Thanks for letting me know about his other skits. I just found out about him recently and on a binge. I've only seen his skit about the colonel who went to the amazon and saw dinosaurs and aliens haha. Thanks!
I used to listen to his records when I was a kid- his timing has always been perfect. There is an art to holding an audience’s attention, and his pregnant pauses work so well. I’m so glad to see him have the opportunity to practice his art.
91. This guy is 91 and his energy and timing is on point. I recently got into American Stand up and man o man.Bob Newhart is a freaking legend. Kudos, respect and long age to this gentleman.
One of the funniest men ever. The first bit I ever did in front of an audience was my take on the telephone bit and my timing, timber, and inflection were all stolen from him. I killed in the sixth grade thanks to Bob Newhart.
Yes back when we had the one big TV in our living rooms and the whole family would sit down to watch a show together. I have great memories of watching the likes OJ f the second Newhart show, Murder She Wrote, etc.
Norm was actually one of Newhart's favorite "young comics". From Bob Newhart's 2006 book I Shouldn't Even Be Doing This: Many comedians would probably agree that you start off doing someone else while your own voice evolves. You start out as an imitator because hiding behind success is easier than finding it. Richard Pryor started out doing Bill Cosby and then came into his own. For me, the models were Mike and Elaine, Bob and Ray, and, of course, [Jack] Benny. [...] There are exceptions to the imitation rule. I remember watching a show on TV from the Improv in New York one night in the eighties. One young comedian after another came onstage. I'd say to myself, "Okay, he's doing Seinfeld. He's doing Benny." Then Norm Macdonald appeared. He wasn't doing anyone. He was doing himself, which made him stand out.
There's one of the secrets to long life, folks: Simple, honest laughter. Bob is as good at laughing at life's absurdities as he is at making us laugh too. Absolute genius.
I met Bob Newhart in 1976. My good friend Katie's mom played Bob's mom on the Bob Newhart show. Bob is one of the kindest, most considerate men I've ever met. All the best Bob.
You don't know how priceless this is. So many people from my youth that brought me joy & laughter are gone. You can't understand if you are 45 or younger. Bob Newhart was, is and always be pure clean and classy comedy. I think he is the last of the original giants of my youth, and I pray God will sustain him for many years.
What a contribution he has made to innumerable families with laughter. I’m 53 & remember my parents watching him. He really made a difference to so many people’s lives. Thank you Bob!!!!!❤️
@@ili626 Hilarious! I 've been around when he had his own show and all back in the day. I remember his stand up and Don Rickles. He's so funny. His stint on the Big Bang Theory is hilarious! It's a show you watch then can't stop watching!
The amazing thing about Bob Newhart’s telephone bits was that he was making you laugh at an imaginary person saying imaginary things that you couldn’t hear. He would just be reacting to something he was hearing on the other end of the phone line and he would make you laugh with that.
Bob Newhart has such a relatable appeal that when I heard him as a child, I legitimately thought he was a family friend. It was a surprise to learn I'd never met him in person.
Awesome treat for me to see this! Love Bob Newhart. This wasn’t just an interview but a lovely visit between friends & we got to be there! God Bless you both! ❤️
I love bob Newhart. Bob you come to life on Conans show! Bob you are delightful. would love to see more of you. You are wonderful! you are delightful. Bob you bring light to our lives.
Mr. Newhart. You are a true icon. And quiet frankly have been for decades. Thank you for continuing to entertain us I’m sure you have no idea how much you mean to us normal folk. Really, Sir, Thank you. So much for making us laugh.
Oh, this interview was my VERY first VERY late exposure to Bob's talent and immediately fell in love with his comedy mind! First minute in! It felt we're in the presense of something great even without knowing who the hell the guy is! Now... Oh well... Rest in peace, Sir!
Bob was my favorite in 1960, when I was 12 and he’s still my favorite. I stole he’s entire album also, I didn’t put it under my coat, I memorized it and told his jokes in school. I’ll be in his debt forever because I was very shy and had trouble talking to girls, after telling his jokes girl’s discovered me. And you can’t put a price on that! God bless
I never got to watch the Bob Newhart Show. But my mom and dad always watched Newhart when it was on. They loved Bob Newhart. And Newhart was such a great show...he is probably the best at stating the obvious of any person out there. Great to see Mr Newhart on the Conan Obrien show.
If you can dig up the old Bob Newhart show from the 70s on hulu it's worth a watch! Some classic deadpan bits from Bob and Suzanne Pleshette (as Emily). As a midwesterner it was part of my childhood. I think Bob gave me my sense of humor as a kid.
@@avidadolares your point is well taken, but I do recall an interview with him about 20 some odd years ago and he was asked about not using off color language. His response was along the lines that he wanted the challenge, that it was harder. He felt that using language in that way was the easy way out. He loved the challenge of making you think of the word rather than him saying outright.
Grew up watching Bob Newhart show then the one with Larry, Daryl and Daryl. I thought he was old then. He's amazingly sharp. He may be more articulate now than 40 years ago.
90 years old and has a mind sharper than mine will ever be.
@@JackKincaid.. Hence the lack of brain sharpness
I think it’s because of his accountant training.
He looks 110...
Class act! He still replies if you write to him. He sent me a letter last year.
I would never reach 90 years old
Damm..."I can't get on anything else!" 😂
Bob still quick with the comebacks even at his age.
Thanks Conan. Bob is a national treasure. This felt like two talented friends hanging out instead of an interview. It was great.
He's still got it doesn't he. You can see him oozing comedy professionalism as easy as the rest of us breathe. And you can tell he enjoys and is comfortable with Conan. What a talent. Thanks Conan!
Conan O'Brien, Graham Norton and Craig Ferguson are incredible interviewers.
The fact that they've all been comedians probably helps.
He's super funny!
Bob Newhart and Betty White, still holding the fort.
betty is 99 now, real troopers
Hey don't forget my friend Larry storch is 98 this year visit him on Facebook
Heck yeah!!
And Clint Eastwood....
They have more talent in their little finger than 2000 Kevin Harts and Vince Vaughns could ever hope for.
91! God bless him. A true gent and timeless comedian, actor.
Can't believe he's 91. Still very sharp.
When you are sharp you are sharp until the end
very sharp, for sure, brings a tear to my eye. loved the newhart show on nick at nite
i find it pretty easy to believe! although yeah he is still sharp
Sharp is sharp. Mental decline only happens to 20.8% of older adults. It is a fallacy that loss of sharpness naturally comes with old age. Myth.
@Tessmage Tessera thank you, so many people misunderstand this🙏🏻
Seriously, Conan, you are an incredible interviewer! Thank you for sharing Bob with us.
He is golden! No one will ever replace him!

the body of a 91 year old man the heart of 23 year old comic genius
I love him so so much. It's like seeing my DAD....
I used to listen to his records when I was a kid- his timing has always been perfect. There is an art to holding an audience’s attention, and his pregnant pauses work so well. I’m so glad to see him have the opportunity to practice his art.
Such a joy seeing Bob Newhart still sharp as a tack. He’s one of the true comedy giants. Hope he gets to see 100 (and beyond).

The Bob Newhart episode of Conan O'Brien needs a friend podcast was an all-timer
That was really funny. Bob completely destroyed Conan there
This did my heart good. What a wonderful man.
Oh my goodness, not forty seconds in and Newhart's OWNED Conan! Hysterical.
Bob Newhart at 92 is sharper than I've ever been. What a cool guy. Edit: I mean 91. Proves my point.
The man hasn't lost a step. Look forward to hearing what he has to say at 100. Bob is the best.
One of the funniest men ever. The first bit I ever did in front of an audience was my take on the telephone bit and my timing, timber, and inflection were all stolen from him. I killed in the sixth grade thanks to Bob Newhart.
91 years old and can still go toe to toe with any of todays comics. And what's funny for me is that I automatically assumed he lives in Vermont :)
Damn, he’s still funny after all these years. My hero.
I don’t mind getting old if I’m as sharp as bob. What a legend.
Thanks Conan for this...Bob Newhart a living legend...the best shows ever
The interactions between Bob & Conan make life so much better. I absolutely love seeing them together. ❤️
Our entire family would gather around the TV for the Bob Newhart show. That was the only entertainment that everyone in our house loved.
Us too...different days
*head down, misses them all

OMG, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Bob is still amazing. Thank you, Conan.
Bob's cadence in joke telling is iconic; slow, dry, sort of timid. Reminds me kind of how Norm McDonald is

Bob Newhart is 91 and funny as hell. This was such a treat, can’t wait to listen to the podcast episode with him on it!

Ah, so good to see him! Bob Newhart is the man! LOVED watching his show! So funny... we need another Bob Newhart show!
Bob Newhart gave me his autograph in Vegas about 1968 when I was a child. He was super nice. What a great guy.
I'm literally looking at a dvd of old Newhart shows- a holiday gift- while watching this.
Bob is still freakin hilarious. I NEVER laugh out loud at comics but he had me in stitches! BRING HIM BACK!
Totally!
Bob Newhart is as funny and as sharp as ever. At one point, I laughed so hard, I scared my cat off the couch.
Oh kitty!🐾🤣💕
What a great interview--I love Bob--thank you so much.
The "Bob Newhart Show" offered some of the most delightful humor w out profanity or demeaning others.
BOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We LOVE YOU LONG TIME! Your wit is just spot on so natural. This had me laughing right along💓 💓
This was the funniest interview with anyone I've seen in a while. Newhart is still funnier than most comics today.
The amazing thing about Bob Newhart’s telephone bits was that he was making you laugh at an imaginary person saying imaginary things that you couldn’t hear. He would just be reacting to something he was hearing on the other end of the phone line and he would make you laugh with that.

So happy to see Bob being as hilarious as ever. Gold!
I love Bob Newhart so much. Conan's interviews with him are always my absolute favorite. I've listened to Bob's CONAF at least a dozen times.
I met Bob at a yogurt shop in 2012, located down the street from Cedars Sinai Hospital. He was very gracious and we chatted for a few minutes.
Awesome treat for me to see this! Love Bob Newhart. This wasn’t just an interview but a lovely visit between friends & we got to be there! God Bless you both! ❤️
