For 3 years I was afraid to leave home because of ibs. Unknowingly I stopped whole grain / multi grain bread and sugary fruits. That relieved me of the suffering.
This was great, thank you! IBS is no fun. NOTE: Make sure everyone is also aware that tofu is made from soybeans, a legume. Also, if you see "edimame", that is just a fancy name for simple soybeans. Always read the labels completely friends. 😊
I agree right now my doctor is trying to figure out what’s going on with my stomach … i have so much bloat and diarrhea it’s affecting my daily activities 😕
@@chococatvega1865 that’s horrible. Try having properly made, gently warmed chicken bone broth 2 or 3 times a day with a little salt if the bone broth doesn’t have any. Keep your diet really simple, eat fish, eggs, little cheese and meat with very little fodmap veg.
Oh my God! It worked. I was very strict with this including quitting alcohol since April 1, 2022. It took eight weeks, I lost 8 pounds and I’m digesting perfectly now and I don’t feel like I’m missing out on any thing. YOU SAVED ME!!! This is after going to two different doctors that did not help me at all. I’m even off my supplements that were helping me with my arthritis. I had only just started getting arthritis in my fingers but this is an anti-inflammatory diet so I have no inflammation my rings fit better I feel fantastic thank you thank you thank you
Congrats! I am happy for you and your results. So frustrating to only get meds, no guidance, and no hope but then you find a new answer because you kept looking and trying. Enjoy! Your success will inspire others to try.
In India we are doing marma therapy and vagus nerve activation by special technic and result are amazing ,ibs is not a disease, this is unbalance of gut brain axis and when we fix it symptom disappear,it take some time but curable.
I am now negative free from my Infection naturally after I did a Test, it was like a miracle, Beign recommend to Dr igho channel on UA-cam, was a great impact in my life, because he cured me with his super herbs, May God bless you Handsomely for saving my life
I'm struggling with my ibs now, and i just wanna say thank you to all the people like you, Michelle, that gives such as vitals information about this syndrome, free for everyone..the world should have more people like you just to be better. Really thank you a lot❤
Michelle, you are such a brilliant, well spoken, thoughtful physical therapista/educator. Agni you so much for all you share. You are low key helping thousands of women, I have no doubt. ❤️
@Jenny Lewis you're amazing ❤️ thanks for the beautiful words, much appreciated. ❤️ So glad to read this Jenny, thank you for taking the time to comment. Happy holidays🙏
This is one of the best FODMAP education videos I’ve seen. I’m starting my second round of the low FODMAP protocol & this is exactly the refresher course that I needed to see. Thank you.
I’ve been letting my IBS symptoms creep up on me since before Christmas. General discomfort, but putting it down to hectic family catch up season, extra travel, eating out etc. Warning sign a few days ago, sharp lower abdomen pain shortly after a ‘full Scottish’ breakfast. Stools varying between hard and soft. Gas (we say farts 😮) not noxious, but almost inadvertent. Still nothing clicked. And then …. now mid January … last night, just before bedtime. Holy Feck ! Absolutely doubled up. Left side, mid to lower abdomen. Really, really acute pain. Spasms. Crawled into bed. Crawled out again 3 times during a sleepless night to pass water. So here I am, stomach groaning and rumbling, but acute pain subsiding, seeking UA-cam assistance. Hit the jackpot first time with you, Michelle. Thank you for putting me back on the straight and narrow. Watched both your clips on emergency pain control and dietary recommendations. Extremely helpful, easy to understand and relate to, - and above all presented in a knowledgeable and compassionate manner. So, Thank You from the bottom of my … er bottom 👏👏👏
This has been life changing In 2 days it's made a massive difference after yrs of digestion problems and ibs symptons I'm so happy to find the fodmap diet. 👍❤️
@user-nc5xb4rq3z I'm so glad to hear that the FODMAP diet has made such a positive impact on your life and helped with your digestion and IBS symptoms. It's amazing how the right dietary choices can lead to such positive changes. Wish you all the best!🙏 💖
Dear Michelle, thank you so much for this video, I can’t tell you how helpful it is, I have had IBS for years and this is just wonderful, I feel at last I will be able to get some control, I just keep cutting things out and my diet has become so narrow, you are an absolute lifesaver. Warm Regards Carol
@Carol Bates My pleasure Carol , thank you so much for commenting - I'm so glad the information is helping you. Wishing you all the best for your recovery! 🙏
I found your channel last night. I was looking for help because I couldn’t sleep because of my IBS pain. One of your suggestions was a heat bag. I warmed my heat bag up and placed it on my tummy and then my back and pain eased almost straight away. Thank you. I will be trying your food suggestions, I am just making my shopping list now. 👍😀
Thank you so much for making the connection between pelvic floor dysfunction and IBS/constipation. I told providers for years that I thought my severe PFD pain was related to chronic constipation, but no one took me seriously. I finally have had successful PT, and found the FODMAP diet on my own after the only suggestion was Miralax. Miralax works, but creates other problems (multiple bowel movements) as you know. Also, I believe my fairly moderate case of joint hypermobility is a major factor with gut issues, but again no one can address.
@LR LR I couldn't agree more, every time you strain with constipation the pelvic floor nerves and muscles are stretched. If they are already tight this worsens the condition and is extremely painful. I'm so glad to read that you've found the solution, it can take a long time can't it. Have you tried the paediatric version of Movicol? It's an osmotic laxative like Miralax but might be less aggressive on your pelvic floor perhaps? Just a thought and all the best for your future management 🙏 ❤️
Yes joint hypermobility definitely has something to do with gut issues because joint hypermobility suggests a connective tissue issue and your gut is made of connective tissue so yes it's connected

I make a mixture of chia, flax, and hemp seeds and blend them to a fine powder and add that mixture to smoothies, eggs, or anything else I find I can add them too. Great way of adding some extra fiber and omega 3s and healthy fats.
If you're diabetic, the best thing I ever did for my IBS-D was start on Ozempic. It slows your bowels down and I have not had any problems since. I feel normal for the first time in 30 years.
What a wonderfull helpfull video. She is spot on. Thank you so much i just hope ibs sufferers will take note. I suffered for years im 70+ and did not know about ibs. So i went to a dr and was told to research and change my diet. So i did just that. With my research i learnt to cut out lots of veg fruit and other foods that made me suffer. I had enough of the bloating gas and pain in the gut. After watching what i eat, and making notes of what foods i can eat im now so happy that i took the time out for doing the research for me. You have to listen to your body you will you know each time you have eaten the wrong food. Read on the labels before you buy. Write down what works for you or not. ❤
@vivienehalford you're most welcome & thank you so much for your detailed and insightful comment! It's wonderful to hear how you've taken proactive steps to manage your IBS through diet and research. I'm glad the video resonated with your experience and offered helpful information. Your advice to listen to your body and keep track of what works is invaluable for anyone dealing with IBS. Thank you for sharing your journey and helping to raise awareness. Wishing you continued health and comfort! 🙏 ❤️
I stumbled on this video and just want to say, "thank you!" My pelvic floor thanks you as well and I hope that once I come up with a 6-week meal plan then I can begin my elimination diet. I really hope that garlic and onion can go back into my diet once I'm done.
Baby rice cereal saved my life in 2018. I tsp a day because even water made me have diarrhea for a good 4 months. I was then seen by a Gastrointerologist and she recommended a colonoscopy and the result was a diagnosis of microscopic colitis
I have suffered with constipation, bloating, pain, embarrassment since I was a child. Alternating with diarrhea. Drs blew me off and told me to increase fiber which made me feel worse. Prunes, grains. FODMAPS changed my life. My mom says I'm like a different person, more energy, initiative, animated. No more looking like I'm pregnant with triplets. No lactose, fructose and no gluten is easy compared to what I went through. Just wish it wasn't as expensive. My mom bakes my bread for me, gluten free.
I was on Fodmap diet two years ago avoiding to eat a lot of this food, it helped me to lose about 25 pounds which it was great. I agree that some of this fruits, vegetables and other things triggers GERD, but some of the food that are allowed to eat also triggers my GERD symptoms. So I think we have to try and see which foods are okay to eat and not. I did eliminate from my diet tomatoes, whole milk, cheddar cheese, corn, chilis, carbonated water and drinks, limes and lemons, black beans, but curiously I can tolerate Pinto beans, and almond milk. I can't tolerate chocolate, strawberries, and anything that has gluten, monosodium glutamate or soy.
@@dailyelatifa9593 ...Hello! At the beginning yes, some periods of diarrhea or watery stool and sometime some constipation, but this can be improve if you eat a balanced diet that also contains fiber like apples. Good luck.
@jhenneeyde-la-fuente7193 great info - agreed, some of the low FODMAP foods can still trigger GERD. Some options that can be tolerated by some with GERD include orange or yellow mini tomatoes and the golden kiwi for lower acid but very much an individual thing and it's often trial and error for many. Thank you for great comment!
A very resourceful information I have been waiting for this video . No wonder the use of garlic, onion, wheat products during IBS condition worsened the pain. Thank you Michelle for this Video. Your videos are always useful
@ Shripad Dhole yes and many of these items are difficult to avoid aren't they, hidden in so many foods we love to eat. I now read every label closely so that I know exactly what I'm having. I'm so glad to read that this information is useful. I'd love to hear how you go now moving forward if you ever have time to message. All the best 🙏
@@michellephysio Indeed I followed the diet plan & food items suggested in this Video for a week and believe me I came out off the IBS problem. Having said that it's better to include these foods in daily diet to avoid stomach bloating. thank you once again for sharing such a vital information🙏
I know everyone's body is different. I was diagnosed with IBS and am trying to figure out my triggers. Cucumbers and salad are bad for IBS. Both give me constipation. Cold food is harder on your body than room temperature or warm foods. Fish and Chicken breast are good. Tougher meats give me issues. I disagree with soy milk being a IBS trigger. It is not for me. Dairy is a trigger for me though. Cow milk, cheese give me stomach pains and bloating. I have no issues with nuts. I can eat them all without issues. Chia seeds give me stomach pains. I also have no issues with honey. Hopefully this helps someone else with similar issues. Gluten is a trigger for me too.
Dear Michelle, thank you. I started the FODMAP diet since 5 days, already symptoms disappeared, I feel very good. Big issue no pain anymore but super constipation that now I have to solve adjusting the foods I consume
VALUABLE HEALTH TIPS WHICH I HAVE LEARNED BY TRYING TO KEEP TO A CARNIVORE DIET FOR MOST OF THE TIME OVER THE LAST FOUR YEARS WHILE ON A TIGHT BUDGET. I have been on a carnivore diet most of the time for approximately four years. I have learned a lot about it because of the mistakes I have made with my carnivore diet strategies during that time. I am on a tight budget and I can still easily keep within my budget while maintaining a carnivore diet. If I continue to eat cheese and natural yogurt while on the carnivore diet I will never lose any weight and furthermore cheese is known to stimulate the human appetite to a large degree. To achieve weight loss and good health on a carnivore diet one must abstain from eating any sugar whatsoever. One must abstain from eating any food which contains fructose, glucose, lactose, maltose, dextrose, or sucrose and if there is any other type of sugar that I have not listed here one must abstain from that also. The human body converts fuel obtained from the carnivore diet into any sugar it might need by a process of gluconeogenesis so there is no nutritional or health requirement for any human being to ever eat any type of sugar whatsoever. Eskimoos which are also known as Inuits and also many other tribes throughout the world who live in cold climates have no access to plants because their climate is too cold to grow plants so therefore they have no access to sugar of any kind and yet they have lived and thrived for thousands of generations without any type of sugar. I am now modifying my carnivore diet by eliminating all yogurt, cheese and butter from now on. I plan to eat six eggs either hard boiled or fried in goose fat for my breakfast and my evening meal and I plan to eat meat for my lunch on a daily basis. The twelve eggs will cost me approximately four Euros and the meat will cost me approximately five Euros and the goose fat and coffee will cost me approximately one Euro which comes to ten Euros per day. I should not be drinking coffee as coffee is a plant and has no part to play on a carnivore diet but I am not willing to give it up at this time. As all of the food I will be eating is non-addictive food I am assured by many other carnivores that my false appetite for food will disappear after one month of keeping to this diet and I will then easily be able to reduce down to two meals per day. While on a carnivore diet it is absolutely essential to intermittent fast which means that one must never snack outside meal time and one must avoid eating food from six p.m. each evening until the following morning. If you continue snacking you will not succeed in your endeavours to improve your health and to lose weight. Intermittent facting by abstaining from food for at least fourteen hours or more during the night while drinking water whenever you feel hungry is an essential part of the health regime and if you skip it you will not succeed in your endeavours. If you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome you must give up all plant fibre because humans have a very difficult time digesting plant fibre. You will then notice an improvement in your digestive health but however your irritable bowel syndrome symptoms will not completely disappear until you also intermittent fast by fasting on water for at least fourteen hours per day. Snacking between meals and at night must be entirely eliminated if you wish for vibrant health. My name is Gretta Fahey from Newbrook, Claremorris, Co. Mayo, Eircode F12 Y560, Republic of Ireland.
Thank you great information. I had celiac disease , Crónicas constipation and GERD. This information is exactly my Ginecologo urologist surgeon tell me about the connection to the pelvic floor. I had a recently my third pelvic floor surgery . I need to avoid any constipation. I took Senokot and milk of magnesium that is doctor prescribe me but I need to go gluten free and the sugestión you give me today . Thank you.
Michelle I am SO glad I found your channel! I’ve had gut issues for decades which have been progressively getting worse with lots of constipation. But it’s funny I keep reading how garlic and onions are great prebiotics that help to feed your friendly gut bacteria, so I’ve been having that with my water kefir and sauerkraut all to no avail, and lately I said to myself having just bought a load of them “I don’t think these agree with you”. But it’s funny when you mentioned honey I was flabbergasted! I buy raw honey and always end up with an oral thrush white thick coated tongue, but surprisingly I’m ok with maple syrup. So I’m definitely gonna look into the amo aah diet, because most of my trigger foods are the ones you said to avoid, particularly cashews and pistachios 😳😱. Thank you ever so much for sharing, and here’s to my good health 😊.
@BeaunaturelleFeb11 yes I hear you - unfortunately not all prebiotic foods agree with everyone (myself included). Garlic, onions and sauerkraut are all classic triggers for IBS and yes maple syrup (pure) is fodmap friendly. See if you can work with a dietitian who understands FODMAPS otherwise I can highly recommend the Monash Uni App as it gives quantities etc and is very user friendly. I’ve learnt the hard way that just because a food is a prebiotic doesn’t mean it’s going to be well tolerated. You may find that some prebiotic foods such as cooked and cooked potato and rice work well. I can tolerate tinned asparagus too and small quantities if some tinned legumes but it’s a very individual thing. All the best to you! 🙏
I didn’t have these symptoms until after I got Covid. Long Haulers for 20 Months. Doc says the spike proteins love the ACE-1 receptors and your GI tract is lined with them. It’s excruciating when it flares !
:O every food she said not to eat, that can be triggers is what I eat most often. Apples, watermelon, garlic and onions, mushrooms, beans, hummus, ice cream, caffeine, etc. Ooof. Alright. This is going to be a big change for me and hopefully for the intestinal better. Low Fodmap here I come. I'm headed to the grocery tmrw and rearranging the pantry and fridge. But first I'm checking out the emergency ibs video referenced towards the beginning. Thanks for the information.
@Wings Physio I agree with you in that that pelvic floor requires a holistic approach - there’s just so much to good management isn’t there! Thx so much for commenting 🙏❤️
Going to make my progress report in this thread! My Symtoms: (Trigger Warning: very descriptive) • Constipation (not the one where u dont poop, but more like poop is too hard to pass - it happens once in a week) • Very frequent bowel movements (not diarrhea though, like last 2 days i pooped 6 times and every time only a little comes out) • Excessive Gas (this is the main and embarrassing issue, im farting like 30 times a day for last 1 year) • Bloating (swollen belly, where i feel there is gas in it which is not getting out. it causes pressure on my bladder and i feel like i have to pee, and it also causes pressure on my pelvic floor) • Feeling of not getting emptied after bowel movement (like 20-30% of the times). But i think its because of either gas putting pressure or because of tight rectal muscles • Weird noises coming from my intestines/stomach My doctors, everytime i went to her, said: just exercise which i did and it didn't help! Things that im feeling could be the problem: - issue with liver/gallbladder (not producing bile or something) - sibo - bad bacteria in gut - very tight rectal muscles - extreme stress I'm gonna address each one - by one to see what the issue is, starting with: - Quitting Alcohol/Coffee (which is the hardest part) - Going low-fodmap diet - 18-20hr Fasting 3x a week - Daily walk for 30min - Proper sleep routine to reduce stress
1 week done! Bloating comes and gos. Yesterday was so good. I felt so light weight and free. Tonight was bad, woke up feeling bloated. 5 more weeks to go.
I have had IBS-D for 15 years. My triggers are raw veggies, all eggs but hard boiled, artificial sugars, wheat and other high fiber foods. Garlic and onions are fine for me as long as they are cooked in moderation. Soluble fiber is better than Insoluble.
Thank you for the video. For me I kind of knew immediately what food was the issue as the reaction would be quick. But I also discovered depending on how the food is cooked would have enormous difference on my gut ie raw onions a culprit but sauted onions ok.Mushrooms are fine and delicious eaten raw.I can eaten bread therefore its different for everyone.Tofu is a big no within minutes was in pain.My ibs has messed with my pelvic floor muscles I can't do kegals as I'm too tense so at moment nurse told me to focus on relaxing.
Well I give up. I watched this after doing extensive research into the foods for heart health and cancer prevention and she eliminated most of them. I guess I have to choose to be regular up until I die of heart disease or cancer
Took me a few years of added weight (yes, the body thinks it's starting and may hold on to carbs and sugars) and lost hair for me to figure out my triggers are flavor enhancers. MSG and all of its relatives like anything autolyzed or hydrolyzed, as well as cartagenan, soy derivatives and other emulsifiers. Hard in the US as soo many foods have flavor enhancers. If the label says spices or flavorings, I avoid. We need to clean up our foods. I get stomach cramps just walking down the condiment isle.
Could you do a "Day in your life" video where you show your breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks as well as a typical day for you? Or a video with your go to recipe ideas! I am so overwhelmed with what I can and cannot eat now whoops
@Claudia Goodwin great idea! Yes I'm more than happy to do a video on how i manage a day in my life. It's a little repetitive because I tend to stick with what works for me but most happy to share. I've jotted this down on my video list. Claudia have you downloaded the Monash FODMAP App - its really so helpful, all the best MK
This is good. I have a shortened colon and have to have small meals. I have diarrhea often so this is helpful for me. I do feel good eating mash potatoes and sweet potatoes and also rice milk organic helps too with the diarrhea.
Thank you so much for this great video! I've been eating Keto for over a year trying to manage my carbohydrate sensitivity. I found the super high fat diet was a gut killer for me. Lot of low carb veggies like the cruciferous ones are great on Keto, but gave me horrible pain 😫
In India we are doing marma therapy and vagus nerve activation by special technic and result are amazing ,ibs is not a disease, this is unbalance of gut brain axis and when we fix it symptom disappear,it take some time but curable.
Taking the soft fiber glucosamine with water before meals seems to be a great buffer. We take our milk with Lactaid during outbreaks and avoid all tannins, wine, caffeine, thick gravy, sticky foods like peanut butter and esp alcoholic sugars in Adkin Keto products.
@farakh alemdar thank you for your lovely comment. I'm really so glad that I've been able to help and I really do appreciate you taking the time to let me know, I'm most grateful indeed Farakh . Wishing you all the best for your future health and happiness 🙏
Peanuts are legumes & very difficult to digest. Its off limits to those with Leaky Gut, IBS, etc. All nuts & seed, all grains are toxic to Leaky Gut, IBS, SIBO, etc.
@LIL BNB-Nucamp Tag you're most welcome! It's my pleasure to help. Thank you so much for your amazing feedback and support. Very much appreciated indeed! ❤️🌺
I avoid all grains and sugar and my go to salad is cucumber and cherry tomatoes with vinaigrette dressing. I found years ago that low carb and hflc works as well as low Fodmap and I have done these for almost 20 years.. I also do intermittent fasting,so eat once or twice a day and no food on Sat.
Your videos are so helpful and straightforward. You are an Angel! I’ve suffered for years with chronic constipation , IBS~ and a bought with sepsis from a hemorrhoid banding two years ago which has wreaked havoc with my digestive system. I lost my gallbladder and I’ve been diagnosed with severe hypertonic PVD~ my rectum itself was so traumatized, I now must have a colostomy with stoma ( Hartman procedure ) literally to save my life as I’ve lost 55 pounds and I’m now 108. I’m so very nervous for the surgery and how I’m going to eat. I’ve been supplementing with Kate farms nutrient dense drinks… any suggestions you might have would be so very much appreciated ❤️🙏🏼
@lisamontag5475 my pleasure and thank you very much for your kind words! I'm so glad to hear that you found the video on low FODMAP diets to be one of the most helpful video. Your appreciation motivates me to continue providing valuable information. Wishing you all the best on your path to better well-being! 😊🍏🥕
A great video, very interesting to follow. Got some good info as im just going for first appointment with specialist after very high calprotectin reading!

Great info thanks. From my research prunes help every person on the planet, but makes my BM trips very irregular. Didn't wanne believe it, tested many times though.

Thanks a lot, the information is great. I have been reducing acid reflux issues also might have IBS too. I have used your previous video on diet and constipation too which really helped me.
IBS is easily curable through ayurveda(ancient methods for treating various disease in India) If you want to cure ibs you have to take following medicine for aprox 4-6 month with strict diet and yoga poses but have no idea these medicine is available in your country but you can get these medicine from India if you have any friend or relative - Bilvadi churan Or belgiri churan (1tabkespoon after meal morning and after dinner) -kutajghanvati(2-2 tablets after meal) -chitrakadi vati( " " " ") -kurtajharista syrup ( 4 tablespoon with equal amount of water two time after meal) it's good to cure loose motion and you can take ishabol instant of this if you have constipation. I was also suffer from IBS and now iam totally fine Thank you 😊
The big concern I've always had with the FODMAPS diet is that it includes so many high-glycemic choices, so maybe you'll solve your IBS and get diabetes while you're at it. You also included some foods very high in oxalates (e.g. kiwi, spinach) which could potentially cause more problems over time than the IBS problem you started with.
That’s why it’s better that start adding IF (intermittent fasting) to your lifestyle. Will help keep insulin down and when it comes to spinach, cooking it will actually help break down and reduce the oxalates making it easier for you to digest.
@Malcolm Achtman yes agreed the FODMAP diet does include some high-gylcemic choices however there are also numerous low-glycemic options too, do you have the Monash FODMAP app? I'm interested in your comment on high oxalate foods worsening IBS, why do you think that this is the case. IBS is really about poorly digested sugars in foods rather than oxalates. Spinach can be readily substituted for plain iceberg lettuce, I personally tend to choose spinach for its iron content as my meat intake is minimal. I'm keen to hear your thoughts on this Malcolm, cheers MK
@@michellephysio I don't have the Monash FODMAP app itself but I've checked it out online. And I have a book (The Complete Low-FODMAP Diet) co-authored by Dr. Peter Gibson of Monash University. My comment on high oxalate foods worsening IBS is something that came up in some UA-cam videos featuring the "oxalate expert" Sally Norton. Here's a link to one of her videos where I believe she mentioned oxalates and IBS: ua-cam.com/video/OBcm4uVuPsY/v-deo.html -Sally Norton would tell you eat lettuce, not spinach, because spinach is a very high oxalate food. I don't eat spinach or lettuce anymore and my diet has become more animal based. Spinach (and lettuce) have made news headlines regarding E.coli contamination from time to time - another reason why I'm happy to avoid it.
@@spoopsmagoops1911 Chicken and meats in general do not contain any fermentable carbohydrates and hence are fine. Lots of people who go on a "carnivore" or "meat only" diet describe huge improvements in their gut symptoms.
Thank you. Great information. I badly suffer from constipation and have had augury for pelvic floor prolapse. It’s a constant battle. On the segment which vegetables to avoid pictures showed avocados also peas. Those are up to it almost day! Yikes. Do both cause constipation issues?
@ Laurie Swanson peas more likely to cause gas & bloating I would think, avo is fat which may slow down gastric motility in some people but everyone is different in their response - simple test is to eliminate them reintroduce one at a time and note the effect. All the best! 🙏🌸

After many years I can now recognise the amount o certain FODMAP foods I can tolerateand the ones I need to steer clear of completely but it takes time. Thank you very much 🙏💗.. can you please show some light on ..What kind of fruits a 12 year old suffering from ibs ( diarrhea) can eat? Also, what are the sources of protein for vegetarian people with ibs. Thanks once again for the very helpful video .. stay blessed 🙏❤️
@s m great questions thank you. Re the child if you can access kiwi fruits this is a great fruit high in vitamin c and can be blended into smoothies along with blueberries and bananas not too ripe. Citrus is also great - mandarins and oranges. Papaya is usually well tolerated (again can sneak into smoothies). As for vegetarian protein sources - firm Tofu, nuts (walnuts are great), seeds (IBS friendly), low FODMAP nut butters and for lactoovo vegetarians low lactose yogurt and milk, eggs, hard cheese. Tinned lentils and chickpeas (not soaked) may be tolerated in small quantities ie 1/4 to 1/2 cup per meal and start slowly reintroducing these. Hope this helps!🙏

Hey so I’m quite little and only 12years old and it’s the middle of the night I whoke up and my stomach was hurting badly I tried getting warmer but it didn’t help how it usually did for me so im just wondering about some easy snacks that are good for bloating for if this happens to me agen.
Thanks a lot for the valuable information! Just regarding the Yogurt info I'm confused, At : 8:07 you said we should avoid all milk based products like Yogurts. Then 12:51 you said you include Yogurt in your IBS smoothie. Other doctor in UA-cam said Greek yogurt is actually good for IBS diet.
@Adam My apologies for the confusion. Some individuals are intolerant to lactose in regular (and Greek) yogurt. With the elimination diet, regular yogurt can be substituted with lactose-free yogurt or there is an enzyme called lactase (pharmacy or online) that can be taken orally with regular yogurt. Some individuals with lactose intolerance can still tolerate small amounts of lactose eaten through the course of the day too but it’s a matter of finding out how much lactose your body can actually tolerate, first by elimination and then reintroduction of small amounts of regular yogurt. Meanwhile, lactose-free yogurt can be a good option. I hope this helps🙏

So glad I found you...I've been to the ER 3 times since August 15th...had both upper GI and a Colonoscopy ...my old Dr of 8 years retired, my new Dr Put me on a Low FodMap diet but I'm still confused...your channel has made it much more helpful..thank you so much...💕💕💕
Could you do a video for IBS-C specifically? In this video you mentioned coffee and artificial sweeteners which may have laxative effects, but that's more of a problem for IBS-D...I'd welcome some soft stools 😅
Carol here again, I bought some of the grain biscuits you recommended and I thought I had the correct ones, they contain Pumpkin seed kernels sesame seeds, linseeds and psyllium Husk, I don’t recall you talking about the last ingredient, is that ok? Many thanks again Michelle, Warm regards Carol
@Carol Bates those ingredients are FODMAP friendly but start with caution having a small amount only even if it’s 1/4 biscuit and test how it goes. Psyllium can cause gas in some people. I hope this helps!
Hi Michelle An excellent video packed with such good information. FODmap has always been a bit difficult for me to understand and you just demystified the meaning of this for me by explaining it so well. Some excellent suggestions which I will start putting into practice today! Thanks so much. 🤗
I can’t believe you also have IBS. I was researching the link between Pelvic floor and IBS as I have just been diagnosed with IBS after 7 or so years of symptoms. I wonder if you know is it common to get pelvic ‘ bloat’ or ‘bulging out’ even when not actually having an IBS flare? I’ve noticed over the last 6-12 months my lower abdo pokes out even when not bloated. Is it genetic or something I can fix?
@Kelsie Linnell yes the bloating can occur without a flare-up. It can happen just because of the increased fluid in the belly when the sugars aren’t well digested in the small intestine. This usually happens towards the end of the day. For me the only way to fix is to keep to lower FODMAP foods. I will also mention the importance of speaking with your doctor about abdominal bloating rather than self-diagnosing too. I hope this info helps!🙏
@ Irma Nogaideli I'm really glad to read that you've found this helpful. Irma what aspects of IBS would you like to see covered in another video on this topic?
Hi! What a complete and useful video. Question: Why is it allowed to eat firm tofu, but no other soy products, like soy milk or soy sauce? Also, what about condiments?
youre def right about the chilli peppers, i ate alot of them yesterday and today and had to go number 2 on three occasions.. so much pain near the stomach area..
@tinkerbell4679 Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad to hear that the video was helpful and provided you with the information you were looking for. All the best to you! 🙏 💖
Very interesting video thank you very much. I didn’t know coffe was a bad drink for IBS I don’t have caffeine but I have caffeine free coffee. Most of what you showed on the video I follow but I have learnt a lot thank you.
I am going to leave the coffee alone and see if that makes a difference, I am due a celiacs blood test next week so I am having to eat gluten at the moment, my GP realised I have never been tested for it even tho I have had IBS over 30 years, I also told her I had never been sent to a dietitian either. One thing I can’t have is tap water, where I live in England the tap water has a very high content of fluoride in it so I avoid that even tho my GP don’t agree with me, if I drink it within seconds my stomach starts to bubble then I will be sick followed by terrible pain in the upper right side of colon? Your video have been a great help to me and I can’t thank you enough, when I found your video on soluble and insoluble fibre it made a massive difference to my life, I don’t know why GP’s don’t tell us about it I really don’t.
@@lewisgardner1660 interesting to read about your reaction to your tap water. I wonder what the cause is? Do you have old water pipes in your house or is it the same reaction to all tap water from your region? Re the coeliac blood test, you probably know that it will only tell you whether or not you carry the gene for coeliac disease. The only way to really then know if the blood test is positive is to eat a certain amount of gluten daily and then have a colonoscopy. Lewis I'm so gad to read that video helped your life, makes it all worthwhile indeed. Stay in touch if/when you have time with an update and all the best!
When I was in hospital earlier this year a nurse told me it’s very common for people to have issues with tap water, when I first found it to be an issue I was at work and my Forman said have you noticed each time you drink tap water you are sick. It took me a while to find a bottled water that suited me, when I finally found a spring water I contacted the company in Yorkshire and they said a lot of people are the same, they told me they own another spring water company in a different location and people who can tolerate water from one site can’t tolerate it from the other, it all depends what it has naturally been filtered through, ie rock, sand, chalk ect ect I know here in England they put a lot of fluoride in the water to kill off the bugs. If we filter our tap water after a month the filter is black and nasty and they recommend the filter to be changed every three months. I think water is a big player in IBS issues to be honest as it is for me, I wonder if it is years of drinking contaminated water that caused the IBS in the first place, when you look back in history at our gran parents they didn’t suffer with all the gut issues we suffer with today and they lived on a lot of veg they grew themselves back then there were not so many chemicals added to our waters and foods like there is today. Sorry for long message. I can send message via Instagram if you prefer
Thank you for your videos, you are very human, you help me restore self-esteem by talking simply and straight-forwardly about embarassing issues. Bless you !! 💖
I have bad IBS and can not have any bread, also sauer bread and gluzrnfree bread. They give me bad flareups. So I eliminate it. I also can not eat oranges. Get stomach pain from them, actually from all citrus fruit,
Thank you for the information. I wish you were going over fruits and vegetables A little more and it was hard to see the video so list would’ve been important helpful. I don’t see why the watermelon would be bad I think it would be good for you or why mushrooms are bad or garlic and onions? I don’t understand why they are hard to digest if they are cooked? Also peanuts are not nuts And have always given me a stomach ache even before IBS. So strawberries kiwi oranges what other fruits? And what other vegetables?
@Christine Verzi the problem with watermelon is that it is high in fructose sugar, it's a wonderful fruit to eat (and drink) and there’s no reason to restrict it unless you are someone that reacts to fruits high in fructose sugars. Garlic and onions also contain sugars that are difficult for some people to digest even when they are cooked but not everyone that’s for sure. FODMAP friendly low fructose fruits include bananas, blueberries, avocados, fresh dates, raspberry, papaya, cantaloupe, grapefruit, honeydew, kiwi, lemon, lime, oranges, and strawberries. Low FODMAP vegetables include bean sprouts, mushrooms, lettuce, corn, bok choy, carrots, chives, spinach, zucchini, celery, cucumbers, eggplant, cabbage, aubergine, olives, Japanese pumpkin parsnips, potatoes, spring onions, and turnips.
thank you. went to the doctor and they said i got to go on a diet, since my acid reflex is acting up.. my mom said we'll go to the market on saturday to find the foods right for me and my stomach. i have ibs - m and would have constipation / diarhea for months... it didnt help that i was stressed from school which is weird since i wasnt stressed in my freshman year ( had no bowel problems either )

No bloating, cramps or constipation. I have awful soft poos. In the morning I can't go anywhere as I go to toilet 2-3 times. For 3 years I was afraid to leave home because of ibs. Unknowingly I stopped whole grain / multi grain bread and sugary fruits. That relieved me of the suffering.
Foods to eat _ melon, strawberry, oranges, kiwi X2 daily , aubergine, peppers, tomato, carrot, tahini, sweet potato, green beans, white potato meats, eggs, fish, tofu, lactose free milk, hard cheese , feta, camembert, bree, sourdough, smoothie with oats, baby rice cereal, boiled white rice, rice crackers, rice cakes, walnuts, peanuts , chia seeds, flax seed, grain crackers, maple syrup, rice syrup, white sugar, dark chocolate
This was great, thank you! IBS is no fun. NOTE: Make sure everyone is also aware that tofu is made from soybeans, a legume. Also, if you see "edimame", that is just a fancy name for simple soybeans. Always read the labels completely friends. 😊

Dear Michelle, thank you so much for this video, I can’t tell you how helpful it is, I have had IBS for years and this is just wonderful, I feel at last I will be able to get some control, I just keep cutting things out and my diet has become so narrow, you are an absolute lifesaver.

@Jan Margaret thank you for taking the time to comment. I hope you benefit from this video information. Warmest wishes for a speedy recovery 🙏💖
Just a thought and all the best for your future management 🙏
❤️
Yes joint hypermobility definitely has something to do with gut issues because joint hypermobility suggests a connective tissue issue and your gut is made of connective tissue so yes it's connected

I cannot eat macadamia nuts without severe bloating, stomach pain and nausea.

I can't tolerate chocolate, strawberries, and anything that has gluten, monosodium glutamate or soy.
oh hi I'm from Indonesia. I also suffer from gerd. and may I ask ?? if your IBS tends to have diarrhea or constipation?
@@dailyelatifa9593 ...Hello! At the beginning yes, some periods of diarrhea or watery stool and sometime some constipation, but this can be improve if you eat a balanced diet that also contains fiber like apples. Good luck.
@jhenneeyde-la-fuente7193 great info - agreed, some of the low FODMAP foods can still trigger GERD. Some options that can be tolerated by some with GERD include orange or yellow mini tomatoes and the golden kiwi for lower acid but very much an individual thing and it's often trial and error for many. Thank you for great comment!

I agree with her. Garlic and Onions worsen my condition, once after having crisps with Onions, I even had to be hospitalized.((

Going to make my progress report in this thread!
My Symtoms: (Trigger Warning: very descriptive)
• Constipation (not the one where u dont poop, but more like poop is too hard to pass - it happens once in a week)
• Very frequent bowel movements (not diarrhea though, like last 2 days i pooped 6 times and every time only a little comes out)
• Excessive Gas (this is the main and embarrassing issue, im farting like 30 times a day for last 1 year)
• Bloating (swollen belly, where i feel there is gas in it which is not getting out. it causes pressure on my bladder and i feel like i have to pee, and it also causes pressure on my pelvic floor)
• Feeling of not getting emptied after bowel movement (like 20-30% of the times). But i think its because of either gas putting pressure or because of tight rectal muscles
• Weird noises coming from my intestines/stomach
My doctors, everytime i went to her, said: just exercise
which i did and it didn't help!
Things that im feeling could be the problem:
- issue with liver/gallbladder (not producing bile or something)
- sibo
- bad bacteria in gut
- very tight rectal muscles
- extreme stress
I'm gonna address each one - by one to see what the issue is, starting with:
- Quitting Alcohol/Coffee (which is the hardest part)
- Going low-fodmap diet
- 18-20hr Fasting 3x a week
- Daily walk for 30min
- Proper sleep routine to reduce stress

@@michellephysio I wouldn't mind it being repetitive at all! Just some go to meal and snack ideas is so helpful!
Me, too! Please do a day in your food life!

I cook low FODMAP menu every single day. Fortunately I have good recipes!
Dr. Danielle’s Gut Assist works miracles. UC suffers should definitely try it.
thank you for uploading i have ibs had it for years toke me years cope with it now heard about fodmap diet has really help

I was suffering from ibs-c for 7 years. Avoiding dairy, processed food and gluten for 3 months almost completely cured my ibs.
@revathy6194 thx so much for sharing what worked for you! 🙏
What did you eat? I wish I could find a guide to weekly meal planning based on eliminating those foods you mentioned.
Michelle your videos are so incredibly helpful. Your tips have changed my life.
@farakh alemdar thank you for your lovely comment. I'm really so glad that I've been able to help and I really do appreciate you taking the time to let me know, I'm most grateful indeed Farakh . Wishing you all the best for your future health and happiness 🙏

Thanks a lot, the information is great. I have been reducing acid reflux issues also might have IBS too. I have used your previous video on diet and constipation too which really helped me.
all thanks to DR. Osaka on UA-cam channel for curing me from IBS with his natural diet......
IBS is easily curable through ayurveda(ancient methods for treating various disease in India)
If you want to cure ibs you have to take following medicine for aprox 4-6 month with strict diet and yoga poses but have no idea these medicine is available in your country but you can get these medicine from India if you have any friend or relative
- Bilvadi churan Or belgiri churan (1tabkespoon after meal morning and after dinner)
-kutajghanvati(2-2 tablets after meal)
-chitrakadi vati( " " " ")
-kurtajharista syrup ( 4 tablespoon with equal amount of water two time after meal) it's good to cure loose motion and you can take ishabol instant of this if you have constipation.
I was also suffer from IBS and now iam totally fine
Thank you 😊
The big concern I've always had with the FODMAPS diet is that it includes so many high-glycemic choices, so maybe you'll solve your IBS and get diabetes while you're at it.
@@Malcolm-Achtman is chicken ok?

Louise Schultz, I'm so glad to read this helps demystify FODMAPS for you. Yes I recall being overwhelmed with it when I first faced it too. After many years I can now recognise the amount o certain FODMAP foods I can tolerateand the ones I need to steer clear of completely but it takes time. Thanks so much for following and commenting Loise, it's great to have you along. I hope the product info was clear to you being in the US too, best wishes! 🙏

Thank you very much 🙏💗.. can you please show some light on ..What kind of fruits
a 12 year old suffering from ibs ( diarrhea) can eat?

Just regarding the Yogurt info I'm confused,
At : 8:07 you said we should avoid all milk based products like Yogurts.

Can u share your smoothie recipe with kiwi fruit please? Jo xxoo
Woops and each day i take Miralax it really helps!
@Dragon43ish Great tip thanks so much for sharing! 🌺

It’s a lovely video and very informative…. What exactly I was looking for

Very interesting video thank you very much. I didn’t know coffe was a bad drink for IBS I don’t have caffeine but I have caffeine free coffee. Most of what you showed on the video I follow but I have learnt a lot thank you.
@Lewise Gardner I'm so glad you learnt some info from the video, I hope it helps you moving forward, all the best Lewis 🙏
Sorry for second message but I think dark chocolate also contains caffeine so could it act in the same way as coffee
Get stomach pain from them, actually from all citrus fruit,
Your video helped me a lot. Thank you. ❤️
@ JILLY so glad to read this! Thx for letting me know & all the best! 🙏🥰
