"Return" Lyrics:
A rich belief that no one sees you
Your ribbon cut from all the fates and
Some hound of Hell looking for handouts
The breath between things no one says
Author of a Poor Design
No one to steady your hand
All things lost in their own time
Where have you gone to?
Return to me
Return again
Return to me
Return again, hey
Some demimonde astride the crossing
You’re reaching for a life-like face
You stumble to the cellar door and
Your fragments glitter the eyelids of a child
Author of a Poor Design
No one to steady your gaze
And the things a pound of flesh can’t buy
Where have you gone to?
To return to me?
To return again?
Return to me
Return again

She's Goin deeper and deeper.. Tnx God there's still inspired music around
I feel a bit embarrased listening/watching this; I feel like she is showing us something very intimate, something that no one else should really experience.
Thanks, Emma.
Given the interview I just read from Pitchfork, you ain't wrong.
@@fracturedfingers Given the interview I just read from Pitchfork, G_d has nothing to do with it.

My world is forever in Emma Ruth Rundle & Sargent House’s debt for every beautiful music they have released.
The vocals are so heavy. So soft and haunting. E.R.R is a precious thing forever. It’s real baby.
Definitely this is the next chapter we needed in Emma’s discography. It’s beautiful.
Exactly my thoughts. Saludos, amigo (Manucv_ por aquí).
Ive been a forever fan but somehow I feel like I’m seeing her, really, for the first time.
Same.
Honestly, beautifully said.
Same...
Exactly!
Fantasy fart football
We love you, Emma.
The art Emma has been releasing lately is both the darkest and most beautiful art I have ever witnessed. Her pain is visceral, almost unbearably so
You haven’t witnessed much than.
@@iluciferi5320 your comment was wholly unnecessary and rude as hell. Also, *then*
I agree. It’s parallel to a very dark time in my own life and gives my own pain a voice. Very surreal.
@@emilymclain4003 No it wasn’t. Just because someone acts weird & sings slow doesn’t make it “the darkest & most beautiful”
@@iluciferi5320 Trolololol. You hijacked a comment to elevate your own pain above others, as if you are the soul arbiter and purveyor of emotion, as if your experience is superior to anyone else's. All the while negating and demeaning other people for no apparemt reason whatsoever, apart from maybe attention??? You should probably have a good think and get back to yourself on that one... Solipsism will ensure you endure plenty more suffering.
This is her rebirth🖤
I will listen to this forever...
That's a remarkably brave performance. It's rare anyone is willing to give us that much of themselves.
She’s definitely been hanging out with Chelsea Wolfe 🖤🖤🖤
touching, emotional and intimate..emma is a treasure
Emma is a true artist.
emma has all the tools and the experience and it looks like she's going to reinvent herself on this next lp and i'm personally just looking forward to see her music be even more emotional and experimental🖤
This song has now been on repeat since it came out
I'm speechless. Not at all what I expected, but I wouldn't have wanted anything different
me too but she s amazing anyway a great artist
Expected an envolvement of On Dark Horses and Marked For Death. For me, this is the opposite of style development and far more disappointing than I could imagine.
You don't hear stuff like this....unreal. Song is incredible, performance is incredible, warmth and intimacy of the mix is incredible.
Music and life can be so much more than crying assisted by a boring piano play. Hope, the rest of the band will end their holidays soon to help her ending her wandering.
If Chelsea Wolf and Amanda Palmer had a baby and then got a divorce, Emma would be that baby. I like it though.
This album is going to hurt like hell, isn't it?
I'm afraid it will!
Probably. But maybe in a soothing way? Or a bake the musician pie way?
It’s chilling when something resonates so deeply. let’s me know I’m not struggling alone. I want to buy everything she produces to help support real art.
What Is the name of the album?
@@giangian2472 Engine of Hell
Welcome to The Tori Amos & Beth Gibbons selected club.
I listened to this album when I was in a very dangerous situation I was stuck in and it calmed me down tremendously
She's a true artist. She's so special that It seems she comes from another world. I'm truly, unconditionally astonished everytime something new from her comes out.
Thank you, Emma. It's an honour listening to an artist with a soul so beautiful and pure. Love from Italy.
The lyrics are already awesome, and I'm getting serious Seventh Seal vibes
I thought the same exactly. This makeup reminds me of Death.
Absolutely
Same here!
Orphic Trilogy (by J Cocteau)
That b9 in the chorus sends goosebumps all over my shoulders.
My inner metalhead may have had my fingers crossed for another Thou collab, but hard to argue with how amazing this song is
One of those songs I play again immediately after it has finished. Amazing and beautiful
Can't stop listening to this...wonderful.. goosebumps appeared every single time. Life is amazing when we have true artists like Emma...and this beautiful video, hypnotizing, atmospheric, melancholic ...have no words , it fits the song perfectly (I hope Emma will have similar high quality visual representation for the next single too as deserved).
What an interesting emotion this video/song created for me. It felt like somebody who was so deep in a hole of longing for somebody or something, that she was almost becoming manic. The way her voice subtly cracks, it's somebody who is so sad or far removed from joy that they're about to break straight into an artificial euphoria. Like a dopamine depletion rebounding suddenly
100% agreed. I didn’t have words for what I feel when I hear this song until I read your comment.
This is the second time this year an artist made me cry. First Lingua Ignota and now Emma. This hasn't happened to me in over 10 years. Magnificent! Thank you Sargent House for signing these brilliant artists
I find lingua ignota so boring...
Astounding. This is the best song I’ve heard this year. No contest.
The song and video is ‘stop you in your tracks’ beautiful.
Emma Ruth Rundle is far and away my favorite modern musician. time after time. project after project.
Why am i crying this was so touching
How beautiful can be a sad song? Dark, melancholic and heaven on earth.
I have no doubt to pre-order her new album.
Sargenthouse did it again.
Wow. Her voice is captured so beautifully. This moved me beyond. Power to you ERR.
*Watches Video* ...I don't always fight with my demons, sometimes, we just cuddle.
I love this stripped down sound. The restraint in Emma’s voice gives it more power than when she lets rip in some of her older work. The video is beautiful, but it’s slightly jarring as it feels like a separate skin or overlay on top of the music. I guess that might be the point. Spending time with ERR’s confessional art is not intended to be a comfortable experience.
Edit: The more I watch the video, the more it makes sense as a piece of poetry and it’s the saddest, most beautiful and remarkable song she has ever recorded. I want to cry every time I hear it, for her, for me and everyone. I can’t wait for the album.
Very very very well said. She has my tears too
This gives me the same feeling I had while watching the ending of "Six Feet Under" with Sia's "Breathe Me": sadness and longing but also a sense of beauty and hope for the future. While Sia's song is beautiful, I also think this might be better.
Sia's song is absolutely incredible, but this one definitely pushes further into high art territory
You are so very special. A gift. Thank you.
I just came across Emma's entrancing compositions last year and she has been my go-to artist ever since. Her music transports and has certainly provided me with comfort and inspiration during this very trying and dark year. She's darkness but sings of the light. A true magician.
emma is such a talented artist so i knew this would be great before i even saw it, but i was not emotionally ready for the boys for pele realness that i am being served today. absolutely devastating in the best possible way.
Did you just make a Tori Amos reference?? 😍😍😍
@@sreb5048 yeah! emma always gave me tori vibes, and then i read an interview with her (can't remember where) where she called herself a tori fan and expressed love for boys for pele specifically. everything suddenly made sense.
Can't stop listening to this song. Hope to see Emma in Belgium soon.
What a simple and yet haunting melody this is. 🖤
Too beautiful. Pure poetry. Thanks for sharing, Emma. 🖤
Please tell me that the "Orpheus" and "Testament of Orpheus" (Jean Cocteau) references in this video are on purpose and not just my imagination. My favorite musician of all time knows and references my favorite films, that would be the greatest thing ever 🖤
100% on purpose that very reference

I'm just in awe...
...and so excited for the album i can't wait! 🖤🖤🖤
Spot on!
Imma go watch the Orphic trilogy thank you.
@@outerentityi just ordered it. Im definitely intrigued.
I appreciate this on the deepest level.
jesus christ this is gorgeous
I am really moved... There are no words to describe what I felt.
It feels like I'm watching the birth of a classic ballad.
The Beth Gibbons influence is so tangible and i love it. Masterpiece.
I'm feeling heavy Tori Amos vibes.
Nick Cave for me.
Pj Harvey
Amanda Palmer from Dresden Dolls.
@@scara_escape_artist Me too and that's precisely why I'm here :')
This is a piece of art. Very touching.
This is stunning. Looking forward to the album.
sometimes i think nothing will inspire or move me ever again and then a piece of music hits me like a sucker punch, thank you for this.
That was haunting and beautiful... 🖤
She's brilliant. I want to sit and have a cup of tea with her...and cry. The raw emotion in her voice soothes me and stirs me up...makes me want to press record and sing out my feelings too. I love this woman. We're lucky she shares herself with us.
I've been a fan of hers when I first saw her opening for Buzz Osbourne's acoustic solo tour back in 2014 in East Atlanta Village. still loving her music ever since.
Didn't think she could be any more cool. Wow.
This is an absolute minimalstic masterpiece. There is no way you can express more with less post-production and dubbing. This is just a perfect sample of raw and pure art like the entire album is. ERR is bringing it to the point like only a true artist would be able to. 5 star record, longing to see her live.
Utterly gorgeous 🖤 this album is what I needed after this year.
Same.
Beautiful and moving...
Easily one of the coolest videos I’ve ever heard and seen.
it's perfect, thank you Emma. And thank to Sargent House for dellivering such beautiful and powerful sounds.
Thank you Emma. Thank you for being so pure and bright.
Very sad & beautiful.
Wow ... i'm as blown away as the first time i've heard a Corpo-mente song ...
This is one of the saddest pieces of art I've ever witnessed. Well done Emma for expressing yourself so purely. Everything screams emotion here.
It’s been a good week in America for women called Emma R.
I feel like I’ve watched this 300 times. I’m in love with it
thank you
Emma is evolving.
Ugh, I just died a little. Beautiful, gorgeous, amazing. Love, love, love!
How can you dislike this song?! Unbelievable…. This is a masterpiece 🖤
Strong Lingua Ignota vibes in this masterpiece
Hauntingly beautiful.
Really beautiful, and really sad. Love the classic film homages, and excellent makeup as well.
This is so fantastic, it’s so great to get to see the ways Emma branches out and blooms over the years.
simply beautiful... everything she does is pure art
can't wait for the new album!
I love her music so much. So many bands/artists out there I want to see succeed and she's at the top of the list. Want to see you thrive my precious flower.
She's pretty well known. I've only been to packed shows when she plays.
This calms my inner turmoil.
love the aesthetics.
In a world full of music that lacks true art, thank you..
I’ve revisited this song after transmuting much of my pain. It feels like I’m a child smiling in the face of death or shadow. I’m understanding it’s a part of me.
A great way to word it. I feel the same ❤
I always return to this song and every time I say to myself "Where have you gone?" Because every time I come back I have lost a part of myself and I feel sad, more than the last time, but Emma makes me feel like I haven't lost anything for at least five minutes, I will listen to this song forever, so thank you Emma.
I've been waiting and waiting for ERR to Return... And Return she has!
Thank you Emma.
Brilliant vocal performance...
Can't wait for the album - On Dark Horses is on rotation pretty much all the time!
……no words. I cried so much. This is a beautiful song - it’s been so long I wept this good
I still return to this video on a weekly basis.
I love you Emma !
absolutely gorgeous and intimate. I can't get over how good this mix is too.
so Bergman-esque, I loved it so much
so.. beautiful
This album fantastic all songs thact my soul heart mind thanks Emma for music
Bought this vinyl instantly
The most powerful thing I’ve heard or seen! Amazing and thankful for your Talent
This was so beautiful. Thank you Emma.
Song ( and album) of the year.
Ahh I love this, and the way she looks to the camera reminds me of that same intensity Aldous Harding has. Gorgeous work!
Words cannot describe how beautiful this is.
Wonderful music, wonderful cinematography. This is going to be a lovely album.
