My daughter was born prematurely and was 3lb11oz when we brought her home from the hospital. She had to wear doll clothing because the preemie clothes were too large. She was perfectly formed and everyone marveled over how tiny she was. Now she is a normal-sized strong, smart, and healthy 7 year old.

You can’t talk about rights and relief when you’re literally taking away a baby’s right to live. We get it people deserve rights, but no right of killing another human should be accepted. She wasn’t bashing pro choice, she was just sharing her regret for once following along side that idea. Once you being to get confrontational and immediately start explaining why pro choice is actually better, it sounds invalidating. If you or someone you know wants to get an abortion sometime in your life I hope you or that person can get one safely and you don’t regret it. Personally my grandmother was in the same situation, where she had one son and don’t want another child just yet, that child was my mother. People who step out on their relationships when caught will paint their infidelity as the result that passively happened, not active deed that led to destroying the trust of the now betrayed SO. It sounds better cause it takes the emphasis off whodunnit and shifts it to woeisme. Thus they seemingly create a new victim in the face or the one they just victimized.

The girl's logic is not flawed and Kristan does not have facts to challenge her mother's to go forward. Kristan has to drag out the old "whataboutism" to support her own specious argument. That is the tired defense of someone who has no alternate solution in hand, who is not interested in compromise and who has no interest in exploring other possible solutions. It is also a red flag for people with narrow beliefs and who want to keep the baby regardless of the mother's wishes.
You must like what Kristan has to say because she definitely has a lot to say about abortion. She really doesn't have the evidence or knowledge to argue her points successfully. She relies heavily on a few key points and will not even acknowledge that someone is confronting her with respect to her position on abortion. And Kristan herself relies on stuff she googled on the web.

Children can be a 'blessing', but they are also burdensome. Pregnancy itself takes a big toll on the body. Your post is actually contradictory, in that you mock the idea of 'women choosing'. Your argument is 'hey, the women chose to have sex, they have to expect to get pregnant." However, in the case of sexual assault and / or incest, the female hasn't 'chosen' to participate. You then gloss over the issue, implying that you think that abortion should be illegal even in cases of rape - i.e. where no actual 'choice' took place on her part at all. You are in the minority opinion in that regard. If you doubt me, just google opinion polls on the issue.

@@ALJ9000 You might be surprised. Scientists are human. And we use emotional appeals all the time, mostly in grant-proposals and lectures, although in some cases it's subtle. A sentence like "the potential activities of the enzymes are limited by the twenty canonical amino-acids of which proteins, including enzymes, are made" sounds very dry, but it's really a sentence about a hero who needs to forge anew sword in order to kill a dragon and take its treasure. Now that is an emotional story (as Wagner understood).
In any case, appeal to authority is not always a fallacy. Not when the authority you appeal to know a great deal about the subject you are discussing and your interlocutor knows very little about it.
For instance, did you know that there isn't a "moment of conception" when the sperm fuses with the egg? It's actually the beginning of a _process_ of conception which takes several hours. When someone mentions the "moment of conception" you can be pretty sure he's not an embryologist.

This was 19 years ago, I had never even heard of a baby that tiny surviving, and in my mind certainly not without major, lifelong health issues. The doctors prepared us over and over and over how much of a roller coaster ride we were in for- with brain bleeds and seizures and lung issues, and a million other things.... Abortion is a body autonomy issue, period. The fetus is a physical extension of the mother up to the point that it is officially separated from the mother, either through birth or otherwise. It is at the discretion of the mother, at any time during the pregnancy, to determine whether the fetus will be born and exist as a human being or not. All this talk about when life begins is moot since there is no specific answer from "science", despite what Kristan interprets from the things she finds online. She uses a hypothetical example of a woman whose life circumstances change drastically in the 9th month as a premise for why she might choose to have an abortion at this point in the pregnancy. This is simply fear-mongering and a gross misrepresentation of the circumstances surrounding the vast, vast majority of late-term abortions. I'm not saying this is impossible, but it is not representative of reality.

Interesting how baby can refer to an unborn very young child, and how fetus refers to a unborn baby. Almost like they can be used interchangeably. So before you start pretending to be intellectual and lecture others on how smart you are, you best learn the simple definitions of two words.
Now if you want to debate abortion I would love to hear what you believe your perfectly rational and moral argument is for abortion to be acceptable as a method of birth control?
