I recommend checking out the IAE V2500 on the A320 family. Only the -232 and -231 have that engine tho, so it will take an extra search to find as most A320 aircraft have the CFM56-5
Such a nice sound. Reminds me of a holidayflight I made in the early 90´s from Germany to Palma de Mallorca. I was flying with Aero Lloyd (ceased operations in 2003). They used the MD 83 and it also had this amazing sound. DC 9, MD 80-90, 717 a great jet family. I miss them here in Germany.
717's are excellent aircraft that get down the runway and into the air quickly. Engine sounds at take-off are pronounced in the rear passenger cabin, but the plane is quiet up forward. AirTran's fairly-new 717 fleet is being sold off as parent SWA concentrates on only one type (737) as part of its cost containment business model.
Air tran is great. It got me to Boston from Wichita KS. The only layover was in Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia. If only I could board a 787 Dreamliner
I remember seeing a bunch of AirTran 717's at MCO back in the day. The last time I saw one, I thought about how long the aircraft would last. Sadly, AirTran was bought by Southwest. Luckily, the 717's were bought in mass by Delta and continue to fly to this day! I miss the airline though. MCO is my home airport. Since it was their HQ, I was used to seeing AirTran everywhere.
@PALLEN8112 B717s are actualy the updated glass cockpit version of the MD80. Boeing 717s like the one in this video were not developed until 1996. You are thinking of the old DC9s and MD80s.
I fly Airtran out of Sarasota on occasion and they have been pretty good so far, and I like the 717. To get to the Airtran gates you have to pass the US Air Gates, and every time I have been there - without fail - the US Air flight has been delayed or canceled due to mechanical problems. They must fly 30 year old soviet surplus jetliners or something.
Awesome Vid Man!!!!!! Im going on an Air Tran 717 later this month! CANT WAIT! I will be in row 25 on the way out and 26 on the way back, do you think that from the window seats there, I will be able to see the engine like that? Thanks :)
@interceptorcrj you know...after a four hour delay...a taxi to takeoff and than a realization that a cargo door was open 30 seconds before takeoff from the pilot in the plane behind us....I really don't agree.
This aircraft isnt old at all its probably from the 2000s they started makng 717s in 1996 and quit in 2006 and most of airtrans are from the 2000s so this plane is maybe only 5-7 years old,Great takeoff airtran just started service here in Charleston and I flew to Florida with them they are the best airline there is
I thought this one was like a G# because it was a little higher than G but not as high as A. It's funny though because I thought I was the only one that noticed :D
@interceptorcrj Airtran almost had us take off with a back cargo door open....waiting to spool up on the deck....after a four hour delay. I think I've had better
The spool-up of those Rolls-Royce BR700s is one of the best sounds in commercial aviation, in my opinion.
Music to my ears. =)

The sounds of how powerful those engines sound gave me goose bumps simply awesome!! Im doing my solo at the end of july!
Awesome video. I'll be flying in a 717 this coming September when I go to Orlando.
I love the sound of those engines!! I'm taking AirTran to Boston in the summer, can't wait!!

I love the sweet sound of two BR715's spooling up during takeoff.

They gave most of their 717s to Delta, which is why if you see a 717 in a Delta livery it most likely will have a NxxxAT registration
I think this video is new holder on the best airtran spool whine ever caught that I’ve seen so far.

great capture of the engine sounds!! one of the best vid's on youtube
Wow, those engines scream!
Something about wet planes taking off is just awesome

@X6insane6X its something about Rolls-Royce engines.. that's how i feel about both the RB211 and BR700. hell, even the IAE V2500s
@interceptorcrj

Would my 18 inch backpack with wheels fit under the seat on this plane ?
Airtran is mow a part of Southwest airlines. Will they actually use trans 717's?
Awesome
could you see the engines from your seat?
And does this airline have tv's in them?
what is that buzzing sound? is it the engines
how hard was it raining.
is that ice on the flaps?..

I HOPE WHEN A GO TO BRAZIL ON AN 8HRS FLIGHT I DON'T HAVE TO SIT BY THE ENGINES. IT SOUNDS VERY NOISY!
@deetjay1 Yeah they are. Just repainting them. :)
its not old you are mistaking it with the md8x series

717's getting retired. I understand the reason, but they were GOOD. DC-9 on steroids.
