This is how i had drawn for years. My art teacher in middle school always told me i move my arm and paper too much when i draw. Went back to his class a few years later while in highscho, the dude had sever wrist issues, needed a brace and now would draw like me. He made a remark saying "guess i was doing it wrong the whole time". Had a chuckle
Everybody says to draw from the shoulder, but they didn't mention about the stability of the arm -- for that reason, I kept hovering my arm because my desk is small, resulting in worse results than expected. But now I see you're gliding your arm on the table and tablet. That makes a huge difference.
Thanks man, I was having the same problem too (hovering my arm above my desk cause it's small). But your comment really helped me see what I'm supposed to do, and I appreciate it👌
Literally improved my drawing overnight. It's like when I got into guitar and learned all the tiny ergonomic things that make good players good like angling the pick, dropping the wrist for barres, fretting with your finger tips vs. pads etc. etc. Took a bit to get used to but it was an easy change with both immediate and long-term benefits
I know this is about drawing from the shoulder which did definitely help my circles but the biggest thing I grasped from this was to draw medium sized lines from the elbow, I could never get a nice consistent line but focusing on just my elbow I'm able to get a nice line, albeit inconsistently.
A true eye opener. I followed many of your cartooning 101 videos and felt the shift from the wrist to the elbow coming, now I learn that it's supposed to be that way. Amazing!
When I bought your brushes I was keep thinking, how these brushes are reacting differently than with you ... oh man thank you very much for this video I just love this and was super helpful ...
I needed to see this cause i kept drawing grom just the shoulder and hovering above my art tablet that my shoulder started to hurt so needed to see this for sure
Drawing from the wrist gave me RSI and it hurts whenever I grip my pen so now I wanna learn how to draw from the shoulder. I wish somebody would have told me about this before I got injured.
I love this video, I only learned to draw with my wrist . This looks hard and I am unsure if I could draw like this . But I want to learn. Your lines are Awesome on your designs always .
Wowza this is great. Just playing practice while you instruct made a diff. The tapers and my art was wrists based totally, now I have another technique to apply and my tapers come together and my strokes more fluid. You are awesome. Thanks for the great info. Leah FYI. I tend to,overthink and thx for,the tip. I am a perfectionist and unlearning that is difficult. I have adopted a thought process that is helping. I try to forget about the eraser or the back up option. I also get stuck in the ‘follow EXACTLY how the teacher does it, do not change or add your own to the project until the teacher is done.’ This ruined many pics and tutorials for me. So now I allow maybe 5 eraser options and force myself to complete the project without focusing on perfection. Adding yiur help of the shoulder to,draw is gonna help me a lot. .
Thank you very sir I'm beginner I have struggled a lot to learn drawing and using my wrist elbow but you tought the right way thank you very much love❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Bee Jay! Thanks again for these super how to video… I’m so sad, cause for the first time I can’t apply you advices… I’m able to draw but with my disability I can’t use all my harm just my wrist… maybe it’s why I’m a little bit frustrated because I can’t progress like I would… My line are not smooth like I’d liked too… I will have to work harder to find a way to improve my work, because I really like drawing and i don’t wont to stop ;-) (sorry for my bad English, I’m French Canadien)
This was so extremely helpful! I love your videos and have learnt so much over time and have been inspired to continue learning drawing/cartooning techniques. I have a question that is unrelated to the specific topic of technique ... I find that the nub of the apple pencil 2 does begin to wear down after sketching after a while (I don't use Paperlike, but a more affordable iCarez matte screen protector). Do you find that happening to your pencil as well? If so, do you have a cap of some sort, or do you simply replace the nub? What are your recommendations regarding this? Thanks.
Amazing videos man. What’s you Apple Pencil 2 setup? Both with iPad and with Procreate. Do you have a video that you show the setup of the Apple Pencil. Thank you 🤠
Kind of a long question but I mainly draw by looking at a picture of what I want to work on but when I try to draw from memory it doesn’t come out the same. If I’m not looking at a reference it feel like trash lol any suggestions?

Wow as an ongoing artist and watching you drawing from the shoulder and elbow, now I got some drive to do this myself!
Very helpful. I recently had to stop drawing and actually did physical therapy for my wrist. Now I know how to fix the problem!

Excellent tone, rapport and advice. Much love and thank you
God bless bro! I needed these!😭

You've once again upped my drawing game! Thanks dude

You bet!
I'll definitely try this. I bought my first draw tablet months ago and my wrist began hurting very shortly after. Thanks for the tip.
Good tips to learn!
Hope they help! Appreciate you watching!
@@BeeJayDeL yes definitely! I appreciate that you take the time to teach beginners such as myself!
great angles, thanks!
Thanks! I thought they might be helpful!
UA-cam REALLY Need more videos about that.
There isn't a lot of information so people go blindy try and can get hurt.

I’m almost 40….why didn’t anyone ever explain this to me in art school!
Art School? This is something they should be teaching in high school art class. BUT NO, we gotta learn it from the frigging internet.
Thanks BeeJay appreciate it….
Great videos! New subscriber here! My new iPad is in the mail! I've been learning lots from your videos! Thank you for the great content!

That’s awesome
Thanks! 😉
Another great tutorial! Keep up the good work.
Think I might try just the elbow and the forearm techniques. 🙂🙂
Thanks for sharing your techniques! Just sub!✊🤙

.......Dude before we even get into the meat in this vid I GOTTA acknowledge that DOPE art of Georgie and the Red Balloon framed MAN IT IS SWEET!!
.
thanks
Interesting
😉
I just want to know where I can get that "It" illustration on the wall? :)
It’s a Skottie Young limited edition print…unfortunately sold out now.
@@BeeJayDeL Of course it is! LOL
Hello Mr. @beejaydel how can i purchase your brush set? gumroad keeps declining my cards. i really wanted to buy one of your brush sets. please help.
I don’t have any control of Gumroad’s payment processing…I do have them available on Etsy too if you want to try that route.
is that a Skottie Young drawing of Georgy from IT on your wall?
It is indeed! It was a limited print run of 100 that he released last year…had to get it professionally framed because it was just so cool!
@@BeeJayDeL thats fantastic! I love his art
Thanks for the tip, although I would recommend a skinnier and shirt next time. The thick black sweater doesn't show me a lot of movement.
Sir recommend me kind of paper and pen for making cartoonig...!!
I like brush pens…my main go to is the Kuretake MANNEN MOUHITSU brush pen and converter cartridge with Speedball super black India ink. Paper varies…
@@BeeJayDeL Thank You Sir...!!

I’ve always tried to draw from my shoulder, but I seem to only be able to draw from my elbow.
Do a back to school drawing challenge?
Rotate your shoulder. Of course. It’s so simple and yet I was so focused on my wrist.
look at the 8:06
Lol I can't even draw from the wrist 😭
😂😂😂 Give this technique a go then!
But if I put my hand down on paper and move it about it's gonna scrunch the paper ;-;
Stuck pen in shoulder, and am now limited to only inking, hanging upside down from ceiling. Instructions unclear. Jk-- good stuff as always!!
😂😂😂😂
I get shoulder pain from drawing:/
i tried and i failed
Try again
@@Keef220D I can already draw with my shoulder uggo
My arm feels heavy :[
Keep practicing it'll free up :)
didnt work for me
why all internet videos are with these super expensive drawing on screen tablets
I cant afford these
You don't need a tablet to draw from the shoulder. It's actually easier to draw from the shoulder traditionally
He literally said it works for every type of art..
