Really like this long tutorial. So many "tutorials" don't actually show you what they're doing. I learned a lot from this video. Please keep making them!
i worried that it was gonna be too long but i was so entertained that i even forgot i spent 50 minutes watching this. it literally felt like 20 minutes!! great tutorial and im definitely gonna try some of this techniques in the future!!
Thanks for the tutorial, this was the first video tutorial I've watched on Procreate. I bought myself a tablet for Christmas and wasn't sure which app to use. I hadn't intended to watch the full tutorial but here I am an hour later, after skimming back a touch. I feel inspired to draw now.
Hi am from Kenya Africa, and am trying to learn how to do digital art. This tutorial was amazing and really detailed. Please make more long videos because they are really beneficial.
I’m not an artist at all, but I watched your entire tutorial with the utmost interest and concentration. It was wonderful to see how a real illustrator works. This wasn’t “too long” at all.
Very much appreciate the fact that you took your time and showed us your entire process from beginning to end. Even if some steps may seem a bit repetitive, it actually helps to make it stick better when watching it more than once. Was more than happy to sit through this tutorial and learned a lot! Thank you for YOUR time and effort! It means a lot to those of us who truly value the lessons you provide. Take care, my friend.
Please keep them coming! People don,t like long videos when they talk and never get to the point. You explain well, fast and to the point, yet allow us to follow along. Very nice!
We appreciate your free tutorials even if it's long. I can always watch it later when I save it, but this one I watched until the end because it's Sunday & pretend I'm in my art class.
I’ll donate here. Short works for a few tips. But longer here because you taught so much. Principles of roughing in; lasso; masking; alpha lock; lighting and shadow differentiation; dynamic facial tells the story; need to learn a little of the creature in real or of one’s own design; wrong way not permanent because we can discover solutions; when we need to add another layer for mask or alpha locks, et cetera
Your pronunciation is so refined, it's reminiscent of a pilot introducing himself to the passengers over the intercom and explaining the flight. I subscribed just because of that
I’ve always enjoyed the longer videos when it comes to tutorials. I love that people take the time to help others grow within their passions. Plus, you’re dedicating this time for free. Grateful for that.
Dude I am beyond grateful for this. I love long tutorials like this that don’t hold back and don’t wanna show you nada because it’s “their secret”. Whatever that is. I love this. I learned a lot. Simple and to the point. I don’t have procreate yet but I have CSP and can apply it when I have sketch ideas like this. This helps me when I am not so much focused on the sketch and then ink and then this and that. I like this better. I’m a person who has ideas to draw but cannot seem to get them on paper fully. I hope after this that stops.❤
Thank you so much! I really dislike UA-cam videos that are in full time-lapse mode as the artist is spouting a foreign language to me. You took the time to explain and demonstrate the process. Thank you!
This is exactly the tutorial I've been looking for. I lived that you went through your process, explained what you were doing and then showed us how to do it on Procreate. Please do more like this and you definitely got a new subscriber.
I like that it’s free, I love it. In my opinion there are so few things left in life for the people that can’t afford it and it’s not fair towards them. So I salute you sir! Well done 👍🏻
I have a short attention span but I enjoy detailed videos of art processes/techniques. I think you would do well on Skillshare, you’re a natural teacher.
I just got an iPad, don’t have procreate or a pencil or anything, yet I still watched the whole video. Why does it matter if the video is long? If you are trying to learn how to do this stuff, and don’t have the time or patience to watch a full tutorial, how will you have the time/patience to learn and do it yourself? Awesome video man, can’t wait to get my pencil and paper like screen protector, so I can learn better how to do the things I’ve watched on your channel.
Only had Procreate a few days, I’m a total beginner. So loved this...lt was fun, interesting and learned so much. You made it look so easy. Thank you. Yes, please do more like this. For me it was just what I need. Thank you plus your voice is so calming 😜
Just got an iPad, and found your channel ... I am trying to make a carrier switch from basically nothing ... or at least a side hustle, and turn a childhood dream into reality. You are truly amazing. Thank you.
I learned a lot from this tutorial, I enjoyed watching it real-time. I see a lot of digital artists either make their shorter tutorials simple art, or do a lot of time lapse, that I have to pause often to wait. This one, you add a lot of little tips like, you’re doing very light touch and the camera can be deceiving. The only tip I have is you can be a little repetitive with saying, “I know this is so long, but…”, or “I don’t want to take too much time…”. Just do you!! If people don’t want to watch long videos, they can just scroll by. Have a long video once a month or something. I love learning from you!
New subscriber. I have only had Procreate a week, I am new to digital art and do not have an arty background. I am 61 and want to learn this skill. I have decided to spend at least an hour each day to learn it (youTube taught)…. I just discovered your channel today and I really like your manner of teaching and your lessons. The length of the videos is perfect for me as I’m at the beginning of the learning curve so need repetition and basics. Thank you very much.
I like the longer, detailed tutorials. Please take your time and know that my attention span appreciates all the extra learning that I get. Your art is fun. !
I think it's awesome that you offer tutorials for those who have older iPads that don't have the abilities and functions the newer ones have, and I noticed you don't charge much for your brush sets either...have seen others charge a lot more for theirs. I actually don't even have an iPad or Procreate, so I can't buy your brushes, but I like to watch some of these Procreate videos to get tips for other programs I can use on my older Surface Pro I just acquired, and then try to figure out how to do it similarly. ;) So, much appreciation for the tut, and you got a new sub! Love your crab too by the way!
I appreciate a mix of short skills and longer full projects putting the different skills and techniques together to get more acquainted with where the selections are and the order or work flow. Very beginner here, unemployed disabled (no cash for lessons). A mix let’s me learn the max depending on how much time or pain I have each day. Both are important. I also appreciate the basic art tips and concepts you drop here and there. Not teaching strictly just program tools and assuming everyone is already a pro or accomplished artist. Thanks for keeping it free and accessible. A lot of people talk and click way too fast or don’t show you where they’re clicking on the menus and it’s frustrating when they assume you already know the basic program and start off at an intermediate or higher level. Thanks for the opportunity to learn.
The longer videos give the opportunity to see what you are actually doing where I watched a couple of tutorials before this on other channels which were a waste of time as they were too condensed so couldn't see the the process and how to use the various tools. This was the right pace for learning in my opinion. Thanks for the effort.
I want to add my voice to all those that love the in-depth videos. You are a great teacher and I love working through an entire project with you “holding my hand”. I’m so appreciative that you provide these tutorials on you tube for free. If you will record, I will watch.
I cannot tell you how many times I used the lasso tool to shade rather than using the alpha lock, never even knew what it was for, thank you for this video. I definitely learned alot
This was an amazing tutorial! Laid off from my job of 24 years and bought an iPad and pencil so am totally a beginner! I want to be able to work on my creative side and this type of tutorial was very educational. Thank you for taking the time and effort to share your talent with those of us who are either looking to learn or wanting to perfect their art! Again, thanks!
I am new to this whole process. I have a degree in Graphic Design; However, I have spent the past 34 years as a Firefighter for LACity Fire. I start doing oil painting 4 years ago and now I want to add the iPad Pro and Procreate to my Skill Set. Your instruction video has been a tremendous help!! Thank you. I will continue to subscribe and learn.
This is a great tutorial! I like the deep dive videos and prefer being able to learn for free versus paying. Please keep up the good work! I learn a lot and the way you explain is perfect as far as I’m concerned. Thank you!
Thank you for this video!!! I wish more artist would make videos like this. No skipping (just raw footage! Please make more! And could you explain how to choose your colors of you want to make something different!
Super fantastic video. So much info, I'm two weeks into procreate and your video thought me just about everything I wanted to know. This was the fastest 50 minutes I've spent watching a video. Once again thank you for the information.
Hi, I definitely believe that there has been an enormous improvement in your UA-cam tutorials recently. Including, the incredible recolour tutorial and this much longer appreciated tutorial. So many excellent tutors will skip over or through areas that make the difference between an excellent finished product and a polished professional finished product. And, many tutors will deliver paced tutorials and when it comes to the part that as I say are the difference between excellent and truly professional their pace picks up and it becomes impossible to fully appreciate what the tutor is doing. However, your recent tutorial are a welcome breath of fresh air and I do hope that you continue to provide a mix of specific shorts i.e. recolour tutorials and much longer fully completed tutorials. I would continue to sit through this tutorial further as I believe that you would continue to polish this further and I would like to see what more you might do to make this award worthy. Sincere thanks from the UK. Stay safe and keep creating...
Great video. Greatly appreciated. The length of the video was fine, and it was good to see the whole thing from start to finish. People can always skip parts if they get bored, as some of the technique you show repeats
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!!! we don't really care about how long the video is because we can see you how you use the tools and how you switch between them... I am a fashion / Costume designer thinking about migrating from paper and pencil to full digital, and tutorials like this are priceless! once again YOU ROCK! you won another subscriber.
Didn't even feel like I just watched a 50 min video. This is the first video I watched of yours and I subscribed. Very informative, and you didn't rush it. Great job! Love the crab.
as you were starting to talk about layers I immediately discounted myself from trying this tutorial due to having the most base model ipad possible... "we're going to do this in 5 layers today" oh snap! now we brushin' with colgate my friend!!! stellar walkthrough, I didn't find it lengthy at all. you walked us through the simple steps multiple times and put in the time lapse exactly where they needed to be. i got every bit of information dropped on me in this video. thank you!
oh and if it helps you make the decision on whether or not to continue doing longer format videos like this. I subscribed based on how much this video helped me out.
Hi, I'm brand new to procreate...seriously, on three days into it, but this video answered a lot of questions on how to work in the program. Thank you. I stuck to the end and very much enjoyed your tutorial. Great breakdown, and now I'm a follower. Thank you.
Bro even though this video is 2years old you have no idea how much you’ve help me with this technique I’ve been trying to figure this out for years thank you so much definitely subbed
just got that new 2022 ipad pro and bought it just for procreate (and possibly for acoustic nights guitar stuff). been watching some tutorials youtubers. yours is perfect. u have no ego and ur genuine. thanks for your time.
Update - I just purchased your brush set and pencil set (using your links) and found the process much easier than your “How To Download” showed. It was really easy. Thank you.
i love this tutorial. It doesn't feel rushed. I paused several times to take it slowly and catch up. You are very clear about how to use the tools. thank you!!!
BEST TUTORIAL EVER. I prefer the deep dive videos for sure and yours are reallllly good! Don’t listen to the lazy people who say videos are too long. They’re perfect at this length. Please keep them coming. Liked and subscribed 🙏
This tutorial was amazing! I’m a beginner and wanted to try something start to finish and you did that! If I missed something or didn’t quite understand I just backed up and you were always explaining it clearly. I’m still not sure how to make invert work the way you did but I’ll just rewind again! You don’t talk too fast and your hands don’t move too fast and that is a huge help! You have a new subscriber and I’m heading to your website once I master this!
I'm a fine artist 'tradional' I'm learning procreate just for fun. This is the best tutorial I've come across. Explained the program very well and you're right.. it's free . thank you ;)
Saw this twice. First time I was just starting with Procreate...came back a week later and understood it so much better. Bought Skillshare for one month and was very disappointed. You’re right! I get so much more from UA-cam, like your instructions. I guess I bought the hype. Great class...simple and straightforward but with so many possibilities knowing the tools and various techniques. Thank you:)
I put your videos on while I’m working my real job (engineering, ugh) and always pick up tips to use in my art. I appreciate the longer form stuff and love all the detail and tips you include. Some of them actually stick in my old brain after I watch a few times. Hehe
Wow, I like this long tutorial! It was really great to see all your steps!! Please, please, please do more in this style!! Yes, and I do also Skillshare!!
There’s long and there’s lllooonnnggg. Your tutorial was filled with tips, examples, information so the time flew by and was interesting entire time. Wonderful - thank you!
I’m currently waiting on my pencil being delivered but as a preemptive nose around UA-cam I’ve found your video super helpful and very user friendly. I use the free trials on skillshare, but don’t really pay for it. I also have free LinkedIn learning through my uni so use that instead. All in all very grateful to find your channel, with your tutorials having that same user friendly vibe Jazza has in his!
I just got my iPad Pro and downloaded procreate. After two days of looking for a tutorial that explains things into details. He made everything so easy for me. Thank you and I’m subscribing.
I loved it!! The longer the video the better for me. I love how you show it one step at a time. Easy to follow! And really, when I get tired I pause the video and get back to it later.
I’d watch more of these, length is totally fine! I for one appreciate the in depth explanations, and I’m glad I can find such an awesome resource for free. Thank you!
Thanks BJD. Yeah, 50 minutes is long, but it accurately shows the work involved in creating art. Talent & know how are really important, but don’t produce anything without investing time. Having said that,...I watched this video at 1.75 speed! (Totally pumped). Great content...always a way to get the result you want even with limited technology. At one time 5 layers was a lot...
I don't care about the length of the video, when I am learning so much! Thanks a lot for your effort. (for me 1 hour is about 3 hours as I set on pause, and I try to experiment myself - I am using Photoshop, so the brushes are different and it always good to do learn form error)
26:30 this is where the add and remove on the selection comes in handy, you can fix up the selected bit instead of having to try and to it right all in one go. I like following along with these tutorials, you learn a lot about what you can do in this app.
Hi. I just drew along with you and I was amazed by what I was able to create. It looks quite a bit like yours. I actually stopped and started the video multiple times so it took me longer than the 50 minutes. I have watched other tutorials that are step by step, but still too fast. I was able to understand what you were doing and apply it myself. Thank you so much.
If you willing to make them longer, I’m willing to watch. I enjoyed this video because it show me a great use of alpha lock in a full complete project. Thanks.
I don’t even use procreat yet, but I learned 3 massive helpful tips that work on the app I am using. The lasso tool and how to use it, the image lock button to stop shading the background too, and how to create drawings without lines! Love this!
Wow, just wow incredible video. You are one of the best instructors with Procreate. I have a GREAT idea. We need to have some type of spring Easter tutorial. In all honesty, you are really a fabulous teacher. You instruct with the perfect pace.
I personally do learn EVERYTHING from UA-cam and you have no idea how much I do appreciate such a long video. Especially these last and finals steps / touch ups make the big difference about a good or a stunning piece of art and being part of that journey is just amazing! I‘ve finally through your video found out how the alpha lock and selection tool can help me to create these effects as I have seen it in sooooooooo many videos without ANYONE explaining how they do it. Thank you so much for this amazing piece of content!
Just got an ipad pro and procreate. Everything about starting out seemed daunting until i watched this tutorial. Great content and I appreciate the step by step. I just watched the video on my phone and i’m excited to watch it and follow along later on this week 👍🏽 Thanks!
Love the long tutorial!!! Thank you so much for your time and training. I’m learning how to draw and I’m learning how to color in procreate. This was very helpful.
I just found your channel today, and Thank God, and thank you for doing a normal video tutorial step by step and not just a time lapsed which is what I usually find. I am subscribed to Skillshare , and I preferred your video, is just straight to the point, step by step, and I am a procreate beginner. Thank you, please make more like this video.
Thank you for the tutor on coloring. I’m going to go to quick colouring because I think it’s very important. Plus your instructions are well paced and easy to follow.
Very good. I recently started on Procreate and while I love it, when I start trying to mask areas it's the one time I miss Photoshop and its selection tools.
Your voice is so calming and neutral to teach with and you don't rush through and really take your time to explain not just how to do it but why you use such and such tool and function so thank you man you're a breath of fresh air in the procreate world lol!
I really want to thank you for your very detaıled and well explained tutorial.. It was not long.. in fact I did not feel the time.. and I found myself at the end of it smiling for the beautiful and cute outcome of your amazing tutorial..
I really enjoy your longer videos that go into greater detail of what you are doing. If someone is actually trying to learn how to do something, then the more information the better in my opinion. Thanks for the tutorials! I really enjoy your channel
I’m new to procreate, and i absolutely love your video! It’s one of the easiest to follow along with that I’ve found, my results turned out great!!!! (Wish people could post their results here!!!)
Absolutely great job. I have dreamt about being able to draw for 55 years. Knew I had no artistic ability. This type of instruction gives even someone with no ability, like me, to get some enjoyment of a slight creative outlet. Thanks.
I’ve used photoshop/illustrator my entire career (15+ years now) recently made the switch from my old gen Cintiq to my iPad Pro and procreate. This video definitely has helped me learn a few hacks that makes the switch even better! Thanks for sharing!!
👏 I appreciate you for this tutorial, I’ve been trying to learn Procreate slowly cause I Love to draw it’s where I find tranquil repose! I Learned a lot from your tutorial. Trying to figure out the tools and the shadowing is a challenge for me using the app. When you started shadowing the legs I thought Alrighty game changer, now I get it lol. You showed the whole process and didn’t rush through it. Thank you!
this is better than most of the SKillshare Procreate tutorials that i have been watching
Really like this long tutorial. So many "tutorials" don't actually show you what they're doing. I learned a lot from this video. Please keep making them!
Skillshare or Udemy is like these tutorials
i worried that it was gonna be too long but i was so entertained that i even forgot i spent 50 minutes watching this. it literally felt like 20 minutes!! great tutorial and im definitely gonna try some of this techniques in the future!!
SAME
Oh my god I read your comment after watching this and had no idea it was 50 minutes long 😂 I thought it was 20!!
Seriously, you don’t need to go anywhere else for the best Procreate tutorials, and the kicker, they’re free!!
Glad I could help! Enjoy the new purchase!
Nice long one! Personally as a noobie I prefer tutorials from zero to 100 whatever time it takes! Thx so much

Great tutorial thanks. Just purchased an iPad and this is the first tutorial I’ve done. Learnt heaps. Thank you.
Glad to hear! Appreciate you watching!
I'm a beginner who can't learn from speed up tutorials so an hour long video is perfect 😍 Thank you for teaching us 😊

From someone who is just starting to learn how to draw this is truly inspiring - I love how you break this down into manageable pieces and explain it!

stellar walkthrough, I didn't find it lengthy at all. you walked us through the simple steps multiple times and put in the time lapse exactly where they needed to be. i got every bit of information dropped on me in this video. thank you!
oh and if it helps you make the decision on whether or not to continue doing longer format videos like this.
This tutorial was amazing. I would’ve kept watching if it was an hour long. So informative. It’s been incredibly helpful. Many thanks!!
just got that new 2022 ipad pro and bought it just for procreate (and possibly for acoustic nights guitar stuff). been watching some tutorials youtubers. yours is perfect. u have no ego and ur genuine. thanks for your time.
Thank you for the thorough explanations for using Procreate! It really helps to watch you as you explain the steps so well.
Thank you:)
It was worth the time when the outcome is what you produce! That was well worth the time fam! 💯
Thank you!
Haven’t done any artwork for years and brand new to procreate . Really enjoyed the tutorial thank you for this. Will be watching more 👍🏻👏🏻
Beautiful deepdive, really helps a total noob to get started on Procreate. Love it much man, and hope you come up with more of such content!
Very informative. I enjoyed the whole process and was not turned off by the length... Appreciate you sharing this for free on UA-cam!
I like that you describe very thoroughly everything you are doing. This video was on the long side but necessary and on target for me.
Thanks Domingo! (That was my name in HS Spanish classes too, lol!)
I don't care about the length of the video, when I am learning so much! Thanks a lot for your effort. (for me 1 hour is about 3 hours as I set on pause, and I try to experiment myself - I am using Photoshop, so the brushes are different and it always good to do learn form error)
I loved this tutorial, not too long at all. It helped me understand better how to apply highlights and make perfect use of gradients.
26:30 this is where the add and remove on the selection comes in handy, you can fix up the selected bit instead of having to try and to it right all in one go.
I like following along with these tutorials, you learn a lot about what you can do in this app.
Great video!! Don’t care about length, the INSTRUCTIONS are great!!
Great video! I'm new to digital drawing with Procreate and I really appreciate you sharing your talent and skills.
Thanks.
Your tutorials are absolutely great. Got myself Ipad pro fr my 60th Birthday and you are my hero😊
I watched every minute without skipping the ads. I love your video so much....
What I love in your tutorials is that they are simple, easy and effective. Thanks for this one!!!
Thank you for the long tutorial…it makes me feel better to know that it’s okay to keep going until you feel happy
I'm new to the iPad pro. I've learned so much from this Tutorial, you are the man thank you.
Love the longer format- I really think that the last 10% of the image is what I need help with! I learned A Lot watching this! Ty!!! ♥️
Great tutorial. I really enjoy these in-depth tutorials. It wasn't too long.
Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate you watching! 👍👍👍
Thank you!
