I’m a commercial Chaga harvester in northern Canada. I’ve been watching a couple conks that I left unharvested on the trees for over 20 years, they can grow very slow and the tree will tolerate them for a really long time before finally dying. My best day harvesting was 230 lbs, all in a single day and on snow shoes. The largest conk i’ve found was just over 33 lbs, but I’ve seen a picture of an even larger one.
33lbs wow. So like the size of my head?. I've got big head if that helps.
One harvest in 20 years? The producer I'm buying my plugs from says that they will produce two or three harvest, first one taking 8-10 years and following harvests 5-8 years in between.
Can you reveal the Forest in ontario with a lot it birch trees? What we only see - few birch trees here and there in between maples and other trees, but not a Birch tree forests.
@@dilldill5947 Yes, certainly can get multiple harvests. What I was referring to is some trees I left unharvested to see how long individual conks can last. Those trees are still relatively healthy, the conks slowly growing, now 20 years on.

They grow in Scandinavia too. I live in Sweden and have harvested chaga many years. You should not make any harm on the birch when harvesting chaga. You may also harvest chaga in the spring before the sprouts come. Chaga is a very sacred medicine and to harvest it is essential to do this with great care for the birch♥️

What's funny, is that it's also used as "tinder fungus" in survival situations. If you place an ember on the gold part, it will smolder slowly for a long period of time. This allows you to carry fire, rather than have to make it by primitive means. You can make a fire with it, and then make a tea to drink when you get there. Amazing stuff.

When I was near the Baïkal Lake in Siberia, I bought a lot of шага from the locals, it keeps for years. Put a small chuck in simmering water for hours, cool then and drink. You can reusage it many times until taste and colour faints away. Then dry it and make tinder of it to start a fire with a flint 😉

I have found the best way to harvest it so it grows back quicker is if u take a chisel put behind it . Then pop it off . Or start with a saw then pry it off. By sawing it or using an axe u tend to file or pound it flat. It seems definitely to grow back slower if its flattend. Also leave it a little on the tree. Some hows it works and u can get back to it sooner. Great journey to all.
Great tips. 👍
Thank you for sharing!!

The effect of Chaga is subtle, but definitely fortifies immune function and improves gut health. I would suggest that Chaga, perhaps an ethanol extraction of Chaga actually modulates immune function. I've been using 'Wildcrafted' Chaga since 2014.

Also of note is birch canker’s properties as a “true tinder fungus.” It will smolder for hours when you place a tiny ember in it. You can easily transport your campfire to your next camp.
Large enough it would act as the very earth encompassing fire.
Makes one wonder about fungus in deep space. Especially if putting to use previous metals & stones, jewels & each. Especially considering what it is to have a world all your own.

I would recommend using a saw as opposed to an axe if harvesting wild Chaga. An axe could potentially do more damage to a Birch tree, and safer too then standing on a ladder swinging an axe...bad things can happen.
They have saws that can extend up two 30 feet safer then a later bought mine at costco.
I've done it both ways. In the hands of someone experienced, an ax is OK. I'd also agree that a saw should be used by experienced people. I've never needed to use a ladder, I find all that I can use while standing on the ground. I harvest in Alaska for personal use.
I find it easily falls off when I hit it on the side with the back of an axe.
Like standing on a ladder with a saw is safe ?
This was interesting and informative. Thank you. I just started my chaga journey today and wanted to learn more. Will update.
Thank you I really learned a lot
Thanks for the info. I was taking Chaga tincture every day, it helped me get through a dark Winter.💜

I’m new to the mushroom community and have been looking for a coffee alternative for energy. Also noting the upcoming research on how histamine and inflammatory markers are now being connected to mental health illnesses and long term brain degeneration - it makes sense to look to mushrooms for their healing properties. Honestly having chaga and lions main in my coffee has made such a difference! Who knew these little spores packed such a huge punch. Another point for Mother Nature

Do you worry about addiction?
@Missdiva555 I’m sure the modulating nature of adaptogens probably prevents addictive potential
I drink chaga tea too and put chaga powder in my coffee as well. The used grounds make a nice face/skin wash as well.
I wanted to disagree. Than went into my kitchen prepared it by bewing it up. And drank it. Even its already an old harvest its still very potent.
The problem we have as a society is that we do overconsume caffeine and even energy drinks that those traditional herbs we probably used for hundreds or thousands of years dont have any noticeable effects anymore.
Luckly i quit caffeine for two moths and could feel the difference in energy clearly.

@@curiousbystander9193 Hey thanks for the question. I've been dealing with stomach issues for a while, most supplements woundn't work but there is something about this mushroom complex that gives me energy and clarity, things that I have when my stomach is working good! 95% of serotonin is in the gut, so helps a lot with depression too =) - Just a reminder: the company that sells them advise not to take them all together (which sometimes I do), so do some research before committing to a daily supplement and when you starting taking them: listen to your body.
Put black seed oil in the mix with honey. Work it into a paste . Add honey until just right . Tastes excellent. Mmmmmmmm!

Thanks for the fungi, parasite education. Love the mushroom 🍄 pillow.
Easiest way to make chaga tea is in my opinion as follows. The small pieces of fresh chaga can be dried in or besides an oven under 60 degrees celcius for a couple days. I grind the dry pieces with electric meat mill to powder. About one big spoonful of powder is mixed with one liter of boiling water in an insulated thermos bottle and left to stay for several hours. After that you can pour the tea to a cup and drink it.

I spoke with an arborist about chaga and he said that it can grow on birch and elm trees. One in about every two hundred trees will have it if you find one in an area. He suggested not to over harvest it if you want it in the future.
I've never heard of it or seen it grow on an elm. Seen them on hawthorn and beech. Usually small and or dead.
I've been drinking chaga tea daily for 4 years now. I havnt had a cold or the flu (or covid) in over 4 years now. I just harvested a year to two years worth, and found another two trees with another 3-4 years worth. Good luck to anyone on the hunt for it, it's out there.

Who decided to eat tree nubs? I swear aliens tell us about this stuff
Actually, according to Genesis 6 and the Book of Enoch, that is correct.
@@rhovey1059watt
@@buddah3418 yes, the scripts speak of fallen angelic beings that mated with human women and created a race of hybrids mostly wiped out by the flood. Extra biblical books like Enoch and maybe Jasher expound upon that. So, not the spaceship aliens most people think about, but definitely literally extra terrestrial. One of the books tells how these creatures taught forbidden knowledge about science and medicinal things.
@@rhovey1059 i knew the rest but i didnt think they told us what to eat and stuff. Thought that was our own findings but im sure most were.
@@rhovey1059 - I was about to mention the fact that our extraterrestrial aliens are in fact fallen angels. They are of extraterrestrial origin, just like we are supposed to be. It's my understanding that we were created before we were born on Earth. Devout Christian friends and family have told me this and I believe them.
God has to separate parts of our minds before we are born into flesh. Effectively retarding our minds so we won't have access to angelic abilities that we have. Humans in spiritual form are an order above the angels in God's Hierarchy, so of course we have angelic abilities. We just aren't supposed to use them while we are in physical form. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. We are too dangerous unless he does that.
"The Chaga mushroom had extremely high oxalate content" - think twice if you already have kidney stones.
Obviously if you already have kidney problems you shouldn't take it!
But most people mistakenly don't realise Chaga has similar Oxalate content to cereals, potatoes, bread, black tea, chocolate. Foods most people eat in a regular basis!
Chaga actually has much less Oxalate levels than spinach and green beets. Most people won't develop any kidney stones taking Chaga. You would have to take an extremely high unrecommended dose daily!
This needs to be pinned fr
Thanks a bunch!

Just so everyone knows that it all depends on the company producing the in house organic grain based products that dictates how beneficial they are. There are steaming techniques that make constituents bio-available as well so the product does not have to be simmered and the grain is a food source not an ingredient, on top of that the length of time, temperature and other factors play into the way they grow in an Organic environment and there for not everyone produces a crappy mycelium based Organic product!
