Isn’t this the same guy who said middle America would be terrified of Prince if MTV played his videos?

    • @jiovanna4136

Yes it was him...but at the time there was a lot of racism still in middle America in 1984, you still had very sheltered closed minded people, and racist still, and MTV was going through Golden Era, MTV was exploding and had this huge boom period that lasted up until 2000, two decades of Golden Era of music videos.
They were playing and airing the Big Hair bands Rock N Roll bands, the British New Wave artist, pop music artist, white Boy & Girl groups bands, because during the invent of music videos they were so popular and huge and something new, nobody has ever seen at the time.
The MTV higher ups at the time feared losing that core audience and those white artist were making huge waves and them being so ignorant and uneducated thought they would lose that core audience if they showed and aired some black artist like Micheal Jackson, Prince because prince...unfortunately they felt it will take there momentum away, if they scared off white middle America.
Prince was so androgynous and eccentric they feared they would get backlash from homophobic/Racist closed minded middle America.
      🙄
the hypocrisy right!?...it's okay to degrade women and show their bodies off, in them Rock N Roll music videos, and talk about having sexual relations with their bestfriends girl and teachers, and showcase females like objects...but one guy wearing what he wants and expressing himself, being his own individuality, just like David Bowie and Prince was way more talented then any of them other artists...they feared the upper class white suburbans and the southern racist backlash 🙄SMDH....they had the power to ignore that and play black artist and go with it and not cater to the most small minded, racist parts of America and cater to all demographics...plus the young generation then wanted to showcase all those extraordinary black artist and they demanded it.
Eventually....Thank God they caved in and listened to the loudest majority, which were young youths of the time, after protesting and people complaining, like Artist David Bowie and Little Richard, Elton John, speaking out, and they eventually went with it and aired Michael Jackson's music videos...and look at the out come...he broke world records that will never be topped and he legitimized and put MTV on the map.
Prince and Micheal Jackson revolutionized Music videos and pop-culture and helped break MtV ratings records and turned MTV into a iconic juggernaut pop-culture phenomenon.

A few years ago prior to this opening. That same moderator Mark Goodman told David Bowie after he asked him, Why there isn't any Black Artists on the MTV program. He had the nerve to tell him that there is an audience that they cater to ,and that someone like Prince would scare the kids in the mid-west. Basically saying they are narrow minded. Then Michael changed that in 83 and then here we are he is presenting a major movie form the same man Prince. So glad Prince didn't grant them any interviews back then on his big night. Life is so funny how it can turn around when you put in the work. All the kids from the mid-west I guess are still scared ⁷,because they all grew up and voted for Barack Obama. Lets keep scaring them. Shame on them back then. David Bowie knew their was some narrow minded thinking going on back in 1981

Yeah I know me too, but he was the most popular at the time and the only one more well known who hosted and aired music videos that were extremely popular and this was during the height of the Golden Era of MTV...The Golden Era for MtV lasted from (1981-2001)
Two decades of icons...but this man was so blinded and closed minded so I really understood what you felt like.
Unfortunately he was very popular to the Big Hair band Rock "N" Roll, and British New wave fans...during the invent of music videos.
