@3:59 You see the hotel Cecil behind them.... What is creepy about that is more than likely Richard Ramirez aka Night Stalker was staying in that hotel before and after the time of filming this movie!. That was a scary f*cking time to be living in Southern California. Even though I was only a few years old at the time the killer was on the loose, I have a strong memory and those years are clear as today🤘🏽. 🙏✌🏽
Your strolling down the stairs like Morris was hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha thank you
I love Purple Rain, 💜. Wow that silver star in First Avenue is dated 7-27-84, I was 15 days old.
This movie is sacred for us Prince fans. I didn't know this was filmed in LA too!
Thanks for sharing memorial site(s).
I miss him so much, his music was of my generation.
Thank you for watching.
Prince 4 ever!
I didn’t know it was film in la either. I thought all of it was in Minnesota
@@80sLife May U always see the light!
OMG!! All this time I always though that the whole movie was filmed in Minneapolis. I love this movie! In 1984 I was 13yo and in junior high school living in La Puente California. I was introduced to Prince then by a buddy who by the way ended up doing a lip sync at a talent show at our junior high school along with other class mates. I was Bobby Z (The drummer) and we won a for best performance and best costume! We performed the songs, "Let's Go Crazy! "The Beautiful Ones" and "Baby I'm A Star" forward a few months later we were asked to perform at a teachers parents night conference. I will never forget those nights!!
I lived in La Puente, first heard Prince with a tape that was sent to a friend from Minneapolis. As soon as I heard I was hooked. Stichman Ave.
Being A LA Native, I Knew That Some Of Those Scenes Were Filmed Out Here. So; Thank You So Much On Proving My Point.
My pleasure. Thanks for watching
@@80sLife Welcome Bro!
Thanks for doing this. BOTH the movie and soundtrack epitomized the 1980's. And when it comes to the soundtrack, the title song will ALWAYS beat out ''MY HEART WILL GO ON''.
Wow great video , "Purple Rain is pushing 40 years ago.
Thank you for watching!
WOW!!! I never knew any of this about a movie that shaped my musical idenity as a young man and still has an impact on me as an adult. Rest In Power Prince!
You have to purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka is one of my favorite lines ever!
Absolutely!!
Mine was....."get on" .....when he was in the alley with his goldwing!!!....I often find myself on my road glide with one leg extended out ....saying GET ON!!!!
I grew up in Minnesota…. And this vid blew my mind! I was actually in bands and played 1st Ave in the 90’s … I would always look for the alleys and other locations (like Huntington Hotel) -- and The Taste.. but now it makes sense. Bonus points…I now live in LA…so I can connect the dots! thanks for a great/informative vid
Makes me want to watch the movie.
I drove to a few spots Henderson, MN where they filmed some of the Lake M scene and some motorcycle scenes....too...

I knew from back in the day that some scenes were shot in LA, but after all these years I had no idea just how MUCH -- I always totally recognized the bridges from the When Doves Cry montage, but WOW over half the flick was shot in LA...Lotsa trickeration used to give the illusion of MPLS
Well done! I've seen PR about 30 times, and i could not recognize my own city (L.A.)..RIP Prince 💜

Very thorough & well done! 👍💜
Bravo! 👏🏾💯👏🏾💯👏🏾💯 ANOTHER "I've been driving around those same streets an didn't know" Bro i find your UA-cam channel Magnificent!. I myself in 1993 went to Prince's Night Club in DTLA at 333 S Boylston st. I wanted SO bad to be a Dj there an at another place in Hollywood called The Roxbury on Sunset. Would got to both Clubs an leave my Mix Tap, well at Prince's spot i was standing outside talking to the security guy an manager. They got a call that Prince was on his way in an there he was. Long story but i made it short, got to see the man himself. His Club was just like him all decked out in Purple. THANK'S AGAIN for the Knowledge of my Second home the City i Love!
Awesome. Being a DJ at Glam Slam and The Roxbury would have been amazing. It always felt crazy to be in Princes presence. Thank you so much for watching.
@@80sLife I would've probably done it for FREE because i could say i was a Dj at Prince's night Club or at the Legendary Roxbury!. But i was a part time Dj at the Hollywood Tropicana Haha..
Now this was cool 😎 to see, “Prince” the Legend wow never new some of the Purple Rain was filmed here in LA very RAD...... Keep them videos coming buddy love it .....

That's awesome! Seeing these spots will be much more rewarding. Thank you so much for watching!
This is So Cool
Thank you
You do such an amazing job with these videos!
Thank you! I really appreciate that
Movie magic, it's incredible how films are made, and 99.9987% of the audience has no idea the effort it takes to look authentic.
Thank you so much for this! I’m sure this took time, money and effort to research.
Thank you for watching
That was awesome and fascinating!
Thank you!
Great video! I’ve lived in LA for 25 years and I knew some of it was shot here, but had no idea this much location shooting happened here in LA!
About 2:50, you also see the r in Hotel Senator on the side of the brick bldg.... great work!
Yes, I noticed that while down there filming.. pretty cool. Thank you!
@@80sLife I just recently noticed ur channel. I'm going thru every vid.. I too LOVE the 80s.. keep up the GREAT WORK!
Very cool. Great work! I also did not know a lot of it was shot in LA. I just always assumed it was all filmed in Minneapolis. I saw the Purple Rain at my local theater in New Jersey that summer in '84. I didn't know exactly what to expect but i was intrigued so I walked around the corner to the theater by myself and watched it. Needless to say I was blown away, I couldn't believe how incredibly good it was. It really took me by surprise. Unbelievable. I became a big Prince fan instantly after that as was just about everybody else who listened to music. The movie was a huge hit. Turns out the Purple Rain album is possibly the best album of the '80's and certainly up there as being one of the greatest albums of all-time. Those were the days!
Thank you so much for watching
Wow! I thought as many of us did, that this was all filmed in Minneapolis,Minnesota! 🎸🎤🎶
I was 14 when this came out, my friend and I went to see a different movie, and laid in wait until Purple Rain started, then we snuck in to see it, great video, this movie and his music brings back a lot of great memories, he was taken much too soon
Thank you so much for watching
Not sure how to feel right now. Im a massive Prince fan that lives and grew up in LA and until this, I assumed Purple Rain was shot entirely in Minneapolis... whats crazier is Ive been to many of these locations lots of times.. This is awesome! thanks for sharing
Sorry to make you feel like everything has been a lie. Ha. Thank you for watching.
you had to recognize those LA River scene tho, right?
Great work!!! I've had a lot of fun tracking down filming locations on various holidays to the US but never even thought to check where Purple Rain was filmed, assuming it to be mostly in Minneapolis.
Thank you for watching
I love that movie. I went to the movie theater went I was a kid.
Great video. I was born and raised in Minnesota, and live in Minneapolis. My wife is a huge Prince fan, and pointed out to me one day when we were dropping our youngest daughter off at school, the house Prince bought for his mom which is in Golden Valley. Another fun fact, our oldest daughter has a friend who lives in the house where Prince lived with Andre Cymone when he was growing up. Again, excellent work.
That's awesome. All the amazing history you must pass everyday. Thank you for watching
LMFAO someone needs to create a "Prince getting angry at a bus" meme or GIF
I knew it. Because I was like I know Downtown Minneapolis is not that big yo! Lol
Dang I wish I was a teenager in the 80s. That was probably the best time of your young life to grow up and reminisce. Prince was a genius! I saw the house in Minneapolis as well. It was amazing that he never forgot his roots and show hometown mad love
I absolutely agree. He's the best
AMAZING!!!!! THANKS BRO!!!!
Thank you
Well done sir! I love the movie and i'm also a Prince fan.
Thank you for watching
AWESOME!!!😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉
Thank you
Awesome job my sfv brotha! Lol
Thank you so much, I appreciate that.
One of my all time favorite movies! It's great how they were able to edit and cut scenes to appear as if they were all shot at the same location! I got to see The Revolution perform recently at The Wiltern Theater on June 23rd, 2017 or 18 I think. I originally saw Prince and The Revolution live during the Purple Rain Tour at The Forum back in 1985! What an excellent show!!
I was at that Revolution show... they were also one of the last bands I saw before everything shut down. Never got to see them with Prince though 😥
I really enjoy your channel and you have excellent description skills. Somewhere on UA-cam is a clip of Prince as a child being interviewed outside his grade school, a then classmate of his verified it was him. I thought I'd tell you about it , since you are a Prince fan. Anyway congrats on 40k subs, you deserve it and many more!
Awesome
Thank you
wow this was amazing thank you i am now a subscriber :-) thanks:-)

Thank you
@@80sLife anytime my dear friend 👍
Great video and mouth outfit!!
Ha thank you. Belive it or not the outfit wasn't intentional.. my son pointed it out to me while I was filming. Thank you for watching
@@80sLife next do the location of Michael Jackson Thriller.. I love being an 80s kid, with music, movies and television shows!!
Wow. Did not realize that a lot of it was shot in LA. The magic of movie making.
I always wondered why in the movie when Prince pulled up on the bike to his mom; there was a palm tree in the background?? Now it makes sense, because there are no Palm Trees in Minnesota... Lol
Great locations...and album and movie cover too???Subscribed!!!!
Thank you!
@@80sLife No prob bro.
Thank you so much for sharing this. This is so awesome. Have you thought about doing a filming location video for The original Footloose?
Filmed in LA too? Had no idea, thanks for this great video.
