One thing someone with chronic illnesses might have a problem with, with that planner, is the size and weight of it. If you are chronically fatigued, you don't want to deal with carrying around a big ol book. I'm only half way through your video, so not sure if you mention that later or not. I'll have to see.
I like that you point out that while the sentiment is nice it’s not necessarily an appropriate sentiment to say to people that are sick on a large scale. My cousin is in renal failure and has been on dialysis for 7 years something like that said to her would piss her off. It’s just not something she needs to hear because that part isn’t in her control. Which is almost counter productive rather than inclusive and motivating. But this would be a great aid to her so I feel like they should take note of how their messages could be received in different ways by different people.
Pretty sure the person who started this has lupus and having lupus myself, I have looked into it. But while it may work for others, it didn’t fit my life. However, Jess at Pinecone Papers tracks her lupus in a bullet journal. She has great ideas that help her track her symptoms, meds, doctor appointments, etc as well as life in general. I even downsized my bujo for next year so it will be easier to carry with me.
So this is the same conversation I have with a lot of people; imagine your body is a boat and your life is a river, we will never be able to change the course of the river, but we can adjust the sails by doing what we can. Sure, you will never be stereo-typically 'healthy', but you can be YOUR definition of healthy, which you are working SO hard to be. And of course, you know me... Your feet matter too! I don't know if your blood supply or sensation is still perfect, but checking feet every day, after a long walk, after wearing new shoes, will help prevent any problems arising- this is more important when you are on dialysis but its good to get into the habit. With blood supply, if you can feel a pulse, generally, I'd say you're fine. Many thanks for doing this review, this will be really useful to recommend to my patients.
Holy crap this is so good. As someone with multiple (3) permanent/chronic medical issues, I can totally get behind changing my planning style to this one. As to the long to do list, some of my days are so bad that having a list that says things like “brush my teeth” or “fill ice bucket” are all I can do, so having those mini milestone goals would also be good for me. I really think that I might need to get this.
I was coming to the comments to say exactly this. I have SEVEN seperate yet inter-complicated illnesses to manage, each with their own medications, each with their own side effects, each of which have other things that I need top manage to just keep this train on a track to nowhere. And when I'm going through a rough patch, it's a big deal to have a shower. Or just change into fresh pjs. Bonus points for checking my planner. This is coming home to me.
This is fascinating. I’ve found that with my brain (I’m autistic) that bullet journalling is pretty much the only system that works for me, with daily planners coming in second, as they tend to be to-do focused. I also have quite a few mental health diagnoses, and tracking specialist appts as well as therapy and medication would be really easy with this one. But honestly, it’s the medical diary that intrigues me the most, not just for me, but for my partner as well, who has ankylosing spondylitis. So it’s one of those things I’d consider getting us both.
This looks really interesting. I would love something like this, but geared toward mental health. I struggle with ADHD and an anxiety disorder, so I have to adjust to how I'm feeling mentally each day. I don't use spoons either. I say I don't have enough RAM. :p
I would want a med tracker, symptom tracker, etc. in the actual planner. I would also need a monthly spread to keep track of all my appointments. I have 9 doctors that I see on the regular and I need to be able to see the appointments all laid out. An overall good start, but I would need to customize it a lot to work for me.
It's a shame that this isn't for standard rings. Rings would allow you to update it without having to rewrite everything and would allow you to buy extras of what would need to be updated more frequently, like with more current test results
I think it's an awesome concept. Maybe they could offer customization options for specific types of illnesses, including mental. Personally, this just makes me want to grab a journal and set up something similar that's tailored to my specific needs. Or maybe just set up something in my current planning system--I use traveler's notebooks and incorporate journaling into my daily planning, so maybe I could set up a few pages dedicated to mental health tracking. Thanks for sharing this!
I have a medical planner in development that is completely custom.izeable and can be eithernspiral bound, disc bound, or in a binder. I will update when I am ready to go to production!
I have had debilitating fibromyalgia for 20 years. I'm familiar with the "spoonie line". I went to a symposium for fibromyalgia after being diagnosed, and this was the first I'd heard of the spoon theory. I have my own take on the theory, as I believe it's quite a bit more complicated. When I was diagnosed, there was NOTHING or online about my "syndrome". It's nice that it's becoming more common to see information for the chronically ill. No stickers???? Pbbbllttt!!☹
Love the Blush Pink. Took notes on what I could implement. The Diary is useless. I carry a very detailed Multi-paged Medical Resume! As for your reliability of your phone.. do you have a number someone can call for you, if needed and your phone breaks, swims, or the battery dies? This happens to me. I even had it backed up, factory reset, and the backup wasn't there. I couldn't even call my mother, back in Cali. I needed a stranger to call a place for me to see if they had my lost phone, one time. I'm sure we all have the same stories in 1 fashion or another. I need some dailies but that book looks heavy to take to the doctor, especially when so many of my days would be blank. I'm a combo Disc and TN. ♡~Heidi
It's a really interesting planner! It may have helped a couple people I know, if the planner had existed then. ;^.^ For me, it likely wouldn't work too well, because while I do have low-level chronic pain the BIGGEST thing in my life is ADD and anxiety... which... this wouldn't work for, I think? As far as the spoonie thing goes, I break it up into HP and MP (and since you're a gamer, this might make a little sense?). HP is for how I'm doing physically, and MP is for how I'm doing mentally. Which these two things are often linked with each other, but both aren't necessarily at the same level at the same time.
With my chronic illnesses, I would never use this as I have a setup that works for me. I have a health binder that has everything I need in it. But I do agree it needs a tracker for info like pain flares and such.
All these years I thought I was the only person who couldn't stand those rings! So nice to know I'm not alone. I'm a little surprised too, that there aren't trackers in either planner. I agree those would be the most helpful additions to them. And yes to customization!
Oh this would be perfect, especially the medical dairy. I feel I have so many drs sometimes it’s hard to keep up and who said what or questions I need to ask to what doctor. I have been chronically ill since birth and just recently celebrated my 34 birthday but these past yrs it’s been getting worse and this would help out so much with everything!! I do agree about the trackers for flare ups and to see how many times it happens in a month. I will definitely be giving this a try!! Thank you for reviewing it!!
I like the idea and the amount of space for each day, however I’d need to draw up trackers every day to track meds as I have a memory like a sieve! As for the medical book, most of it would be redundant to me in the UK as our medical system is so totally different! I think a pared down version would be better for me, more like the EC one. But as all sufferers of chronic illnesses, no two of us are alike therefore one planner couldn’t be right for everyone! I think I’d like to find my own way of tracking my needs. Thanks so much for the review Cindy xxx💕
I've been wanting a planner like this. I'm on chemo for life and want to track my symptoms, side effects, medications, refills etc. Thank you for sharing. Definitely going to get both and see how I like it.
the quote seems odd when the planner is geared toward those with chronic illness. Chronic illnesses are not curable so we will never be what most consider "healthy" I like the planner but agree symptom tracker would be extremely helpful. Especially useful for doctor appointments and prepping notes for those appointments. I think it is a little high priced for me but not unreasonable. I went on disability so spending that type of money on a planner it not really an option. I agree the space for TO DO is a little large for "spoonies" However for things I actually need to do, I might want to include details rather than just a list. I always enjoy your reviews!!
Seems to be missing space for meal planning and tracking food. My illnesses are usually managed through diet, I only take 3 meds, so tracking what I'm eating takes precedent over tracking my medications
Thanks for the video. Do you know any other planners for chronic illness people? Thanks. I have mast cell activation syndrome and I am a patient advocate. Would love to meet you.
Interesting tools. I have PKD and am on dialysis. I've been trying to organize my medical stuff. It's all kind of overwhelming. Some is electronic, some is printed, some is written down in notebooks. I like having my labs electronically so I can see the trends over time. But now the dialysis center is giving me paper with my lap results. My calendar is electronic. I have so many appointments to keep up with. Now I'm trying to keep track of the testing I'm having done to get on the transplant list.I guess I need a big binder. Or I could scan everything. I need more energy just to keep on top of everything!
Thanks for showing this info...I know this is an old video but I agree with some of the comments ... while this "Planner" is great for planning your day ect, It does not do anything for actual tracking ect... I do like the diary information so I might try and create my own with the things my life needs ... of course no one can possibly do a ton of planners with all the illnesses as that would be an impossible task but things like heart rate tracking or oxygen tracking and weight ect should be included or at least I think so. Again thank you for sharing this with all of us.
I know you like to shop at Michael's. I was just there recently and discovered that the Artist's Loft brand had come out with a new dot grid journal. It says that it's 120 gsm. I'd be curious to see what your thoughts are on that.
The lack of a monthly would make this a no-go for me, even the medical diary is too big for my purse, and that coil is just the nail in the coffin. While I've got multiple chronic conditions (including one I was just diagnosed with today, yay, although that one at least can eventually be fixed) there's not a whole lot of tracking that needs to be done for any of them. I count out my meds into the dispensers once a week, the only things I really track are ibuprofen (to make sure I don't take too much of it), Norco, physical therapy, and pain level on the right side vs. the left. If I have questions, I just write them on the next page in my bullet journal. I'd love to see a review of the HB90 writing planner (Heart Breathings/Sarra Cannon).
Some unlabeled trackers would be nice. I want to start tracking how often I am using my contact pain meds- both prescription and nonprescription, and there's no spot to add that in my current planner, and I don't see one in this planner either. I also want to try tracking habit building things, like doing something creative every day, and I think a lot of people have things like that. (Also, I like the long list areas. Some days, I've got a lot of very small things that I want to accomplish, and some days I have a couple of larger energy things. Some days I like to break chores up into smaller steps in my planner, because it helps motivate me and feel like I don't need to do that task in one big step, and the progress still counts.)
A little bit unrelated - I just got a jibun techo and it has habit trackers galore! My issue is I don't know how to use it or what to track on these pages... Also, I'm a little bit thankful that my chronic illness has reached a point where I don't need all of the pages the little notebook comes with. Yay?!
How cool is it that this is undated!?! That means that you can keep it until your health is at a point that you need it. For some of us with deteriorating health how wonderful to have something we can keep as a back up resource to move into when things take a turn!!
Totally agree with the changes you would make. As far as what other planners to review I would love to see more daily/productivity style planners but with binding that isn’t annoying (we have the same preferences) and decent paper quality. Feeling lost on what planned to get for next year since EC won’t work for me anymore.
This is a really interesting planner, thank you for reviewing it! I see what you mean about the to-do list being too long, I guess it all depends on whether you feel constrained by the idea that each line should contain one to-do. I'm the kind of person who will write a long sentence, in big handwriting, and take up like 4 lines writing one thing. So it wouldn't bother me
I think this is a great start! I definitely agree that trackers would be helpful. My husband deals with chronic illness and using a large tracker was key for him. I do like that the daily has a lot of space, as I can see people using it to journal/write down how the day went with timestamps for pain/medication/etc.
Thsnks for posting this, I like the medical diary and I will probably set up my own in my happy planner. Unfortunately the planner just missed the mark for me. I don't like a single thing about it. Since I have 3 kids with Autism i think that i will find a way to make a medical diary for each of them too.
This would not work for me, but I has some solid ideas. I would personally need a monthly spread, the 4 week thing would throw me off when I reference between my journals.
Thank you so much for reviewing this Cindy! I have been looking for something to track mental and physical health stuff I've been dealing with. Also med schedules are a lot to keep up with 😂 so I might be picking up this pair of planners. Also hallelujah for weekends on two pages! Lol
Debra Baker I have had planners before where I used washi at the margins then repunched into an A5 and some I put on discs. You can do it, but it does take a while.
I dont have enough bandwidth I love that! Thank u for this review ❤ I think I'd use this planner as health is front n centre...worried my pen of choice (fountain pens im obsessed with them) might bleed thru 💔
I looked into it, seems like they don't ship outside of US sadly, or at least not to EU mainland. Also yes that healthy quote would bother me since I will never be healthy and that stings a bit from a spoonie planner that's supposed all about chronic health management imho.
Froo froo shit and chronic illness. Sign me up! I lke the planner idea but it is too pricey for me and would prefer something where I could insert my own scribbled note pages.
I’m not in love with it. The hints of toxic positivity are a big turn off for me. Having to write a daily list of things to do with extra spoons would be really emotionally hard for me. It’d be like “Hey! Look at all the things you can’t do today!”
I really wanted to like this but I hate it. Not helpful at all for me, just a boring planner with some extra stuff that just happens not to apply to my disability. I also just don’t like the term spooning (sounds stupid and childish imo) and spoon theory is just a really long winded way of saying “sometimes disabled people just don’t have the fucking energy”
One thing someone with chronic illnesses might have a problem with, with that planner, is the size and weight of it. If you are chronically fatigued, you don't want to deal with carrying around a big ol book. I'm only half way through your video, so not sure if you mention that later or not. I'll have to see.

This would be perfect if it had a small section for food diary as well as symptom trackers.

💜💜💜tfs💜💜💜 I hate medical planners that assume you will get well at some point, with a passion! We don't all get "well" ffs....

Same for me! I think food is a big one to miss, since it affects most of us dramatically
You could turn the medication part into a weekly meal planner
Agreed

Totally agree with the changes you would make. PLease review Golden Coil planners! I think you would love them as they are super neutral and allow for a ton of customization.
Thsnks for posting this, I like the medical diary and I will probably set up my own in my happy planner. Unfortunately the planner just missed the mark for me. I don't like a single thing about it.
Since I have 3 kids with Autism i think that i will find a way to make a medical diary for each of them too.
Would you have a go at a hobonichi? I got a cousin for next year and am currently watching everything I can get my hands on 😁
I prefer spell slots to spoons 😊
Caroline Jones I hope to one day have a level 9 spell slot
I need to remember that one! :)
Lol
these are great! I wish they would've been out a couple years ago when I was going thru my hip dysplasia surgeries!
I really like these. I wonder if this could be converted to discs? I can see this as being really useful for me.
Debra Baker I have had planners before where I used washi at the margins then repunched into an A5 and some I put on discs. You can do it, but it does take a while.
@@alaskancat so, if I had a few hours free...lol
Debra Baker it took me a whole weekend to get one done...
Please review the 2020 Start Planners!
Will give it a try! Have so many things wrong with me and hard to keep track of it all. Thanks!
I dont have enough bandwidth I love that!
Thank u for this review ❤
I think I'd use this planner as health is front n centre...worried my pen of choice (fountain pens im obsessed with them) might bleed thru 💔
its not covered in hella frufru shit...omg you killed me I was not prepared for that kmsl
I looked into it, seems like they don't ship outside of US sadly, or at least not to EU mainland. Also yes that healthy quote would bother me since I will never be healthy and that stings a bit from a spoonie planner that's supposed all about chronic health management imho.
“It’s not hella froofroo” made me laugh so hard I had to pause the video
Love the review! Thank you for sharing.
Please help, I need a medical journal/diary with those allergy pages, does anyone do this as well as this one?
No way would I have the energy to fill this in every day.
Are they the only daily planner with the weekend separate? 🤭
