This video, created by Nucleus Medical Media, shows labor and delivery followed by vaginal birth. It includes the three stages of labor: early and active labor when your baby pushes lower into your pelvis, delivery when your baby exits the birth canal, and finally delivery of the placenta when your placenta separates from the uterine wall.

I can't imagine how my grandmother delivered my mom by herself. She was all alone when she went through the entire process. Massive respect to all mothers' out there.
I love you for that.
Exactly. RIght on point.
my grandmother pushed my mum out on a chair and my mum fell to the floor (the ambulance was a bit slow)
Which makes me wonder why modern medicine prefer to increase the vagina by cutting 🤔 why cant thy let it stretch on its own ..

Fun Fact: A Minecraft player who accidentally killed their in-game pet [e.g: Dog] can feel loads of emotional pain with numbers similar to the physical pain of childbirth
when she said the doctor will make a cut I squeezed my legs felt the pain :(
@Ichika- the strawberry duck Anesthetized....shouldn't feel pain.
@@wholeNwon no epidural mentioned. So pain is felt. The thing is recovery time. Episiotomy need stitches. Natural strech not. Natural tear is usually better
Episiotomies are usually cut with local infiltration anesthesia to limit or eliminate pain. Believe me, torn tissues can be much more difficult to repair properly so that healing produces minimal deformity. Episiotomies are directed in such a way as to avoid tearing vaginal and perineal tissues into the rectum (sphincter muscles).
@@wholeNwon episiotomy is useful when needed. But not ecvery woman needs it.

i got nervous when she said that the doctor will make a cut to enlarge that area..oh my god,i'm nervous for the whole process now
Don't be entirely nervous. It's called a episiotomy. The doctor/midwife will only make the cut if he or she feels you're at a greater risk of tearing when your baby's head crowns. This is not always the case with all women, every woman's vagina is different. Some may require the episiotomy because the vaginal opening is too small for the baby's head, so they have to cut the tight skin around the baby's head. Others will not need it. Either way, you'll be fine. Some women say it feels like a slight sting but it's nothing compared to the baby's head crowning.

This video needs to be updated! Telling women they will have pain in labour is not necessary... it can actually cause pain to be worse due to the fear of pain causing tension in women before and during labour. A woman lying on her back is NOT the best pose for natural birth! Squatting is the best way to deliver babies because it allows the greatest opening of the pelvic bones, so a larger passage for the baby to fit through. The skull bone movement is important and good to show women, it's important to know that a baby's head can change shape to fit through her own pelvis so she doesn't have to worry about being too small. The hands receiving the baby at the end should not be shown twisting or bending the baby's head, this can cause neck injuries! Babies naturally turn during normal birth, and do not need to be helped by an outsider... hands off techniques are safer and better, unless there is an unusual issue... but even shoulder dysplasia, when a shoulder is caught behind the pelvic bone, should not be dealt with by twisting or pulling the baby's head... in a case of shoulder dysplasia, the best solution is for mother to turn onto hands and knees and deliver doggy style, or try other upright and squatting positions. Standing up, or partial standing/squatting during labour are also great ways to deliver! Showing the umbilical cord being cut right away is also not necessarily wise, it's possible cutting the cord early makes the placenta deliver more quickly, but does this increase the risk of postpartum haemorrhage? Massaging the placenta downwards gently (massage mother's belly while she is nursing the baby) helps the uterus to contract, and the baby can stay connected to the placenta for awhile to make sure the oxygen and blood volume going to the baby is maximized. (I've had five babies, etc.)
Also, episiotomy is not even standard practice anymore in many hospitals, so why bother including it? Perhaps these vids will help the world population go down... which seems to be a good thing considering climate change... is this the reason the video includes some of the potential negatives?
hello
They are still done, that's why it is included.
I HATE that an episiotomy is part of this. An episiotomy should only be used in emergency situations.
I agree. I am just shy of 18, (I have three other sisters) and my mother only needed an episiotomy with one of her births because one of my sisters had the cord wrapped around her arm. She was born blue. I don't know if you believe in God or not, but I think that anyone can see that our bodies were made to deliver babies perfectly if we were in a perfect world without complications. So let our bodies do the work! :)
Brittany Wallace Hell yeah. I'm a guy, well you can tell because I have Dude in my name LOL and after watching this I was like "Oh my GOD I would have FLIPPED my shit if I was born a girl........This looks so painful......." I know they make it sound normal but it isn't! With my first child I wasn't informed and the Dr told he had to do it but later found out it wasn't necessary! With my second I had a birth plan that I made my Dr sign and everything went according to that plan thankfully! And the recovery time was much faster. Huge difference.
Being in the delivery room needs guts. On our first day of duty my group was assigned in the DR and was a able to witness a live vaginal delivery (first child or called gravida one/primi). We were like "Oh My God!" and I almost fainted when the midwife performed episiotomy. It was needed cause the baby won't come out. The mother had a second degree laceration and that was just "Ugh!". But despite all the hurt..we were able to see and witness the mother and childs first hug. It was beautiful :)
1:40 wait what?? ouch!!! everything else is push like your baby's life depends on it and im ok with that, but cutting the skin??? no thank you
***** Better to 'cut the skin' than to allow the baby's head to naturally tear the frenulum of the labia minora, the perineum and then the anal sphincter, potentially leaving the mother with faecal incontinence, don't you think?
Hannibal Lecter ;_; yes very true but oh my god...
Hannibal Lecter
it sounds painful but your in so much other pain you dont really notice at least I didnt and also I healed alot quicker with a cut than a tear pluss it was less painful
+Shakiba Inside A Screen (Shakibzz) unless you're in america where birth is unnecessarily over medicalised, episiotomy is not routine and only done when there is a need to get the baby out quickly.
Don't think of the pain, think of your baby. Do your best and cooperate with your doctor on your delivery and your baby will be out before you know it. Everything will be worth it once you see your baby. :)
Maybe not think of the pain you are going through think of the fact that you aren't pushing out a baby that's equivalent size to a 7 year old kid. Thats what a certain animal goes through

Holy molly!!! 33 and still not ready
I do not like how this clip demonstrates that they think it is a normal thing for an episiotomy to be performed or for midwives/birth attendants to tell a woman when to push. . A women's body works in amazing ways and she is made for childbirth. There is no need for them to expect to intervene in these ways if the pregnancy and birth are progressing naturally ! !
i thought the exact same thing. its patronising to imply that all women wil require interventions and unnecessarily scares women!!
Well said

Rebecca Mew Yes, yet with an epidural the waist-down is numbed and the contractions (usually) can’t be felt. The contractions are what let a woman know when to push. So, with an epidural a woman really may just need help pushing.
There is no way in God's name I'm having a kid
#1, no one has to "tell you to push," your body knows what to do! You will have an uncontrollable urge to push. #2, luckily episiotomies are usually rare these days. If your doc does them a lot get out of there! Find a midwife! Your body is made to stretch and open. #3, there's nothing about the importance of letting the cord pulse. 1/3 of baby's blood is in the cord and is necessary for baby not to be hypovolemic. A baby gets 80% of their cord blood in the first 30 seconds and most of it by 3-5 minutes. It does NOT need to be cut immediately. #4 I take offense to "in a normal birth your baby will turn to face your spine." Persistent posterior babies or "sunny side up" babies are still a variation of normal, even if it can be a longer process with back labor.

Nice video, but I read somewhere that it maybe good to hold off cutting the umbilical cord until the baby gets its last 200mL or so of blood from the placenta. In fact , it may be normal to hold/ treat the baby and the placenta as one unit after birth.

@@hootoftheowl. because you don't understand it. Evolution doesn't make you invincible. It selects traits the best fit the environment. But that doesn't make us immortal or invincible. And actually humans are good long distance runners, or ar least our ancestors were. Because we had less hair and were smaller, more agile and can walk on two legs, we can out run most animals by distance. Most predators can run fast but get tired quickly.

Does it pain
on a scale of 1-10, HOW DOES IT HURT?
Damn, that looks painful. Especially the cutting bit ;__;
Pain is in the eye of the beholder.
If you expect pain. You will get exaxtly what you're expecting and then some.
If you expect challenging work that is really hard. You will get that.
It really just depends on how you prepare for labor and birth.
I thought birth was hard but not painful at all. Many of my clients say birth is painful, but not in a bad way, more like the way you feel the first time you try something that is physically demanding like CrossFit or hot yoga or training for a marathon.
Do those things hurt? I would say yes. But do those things make you feel like you are in danger? Like something is wrong? No. They don't.
Pain is relative to the individual. Each person will experience birth differently. We are all unique and as such our perceptions of what hurts us and how much will be different too.
It's 57 units if pain..
Human can take upto 45 units if pain.
