Condenser Fan Upgrade on The Sharp Minisplit AC

  • This is what I've been doing mostly during quarantine; I make stuff that either I don't really need out of things I scrapped, or most people don't even think about making.
    Here's the 2nd(and probably won't be the last) condenser fan upgrade I've done on this AC unit. I just can't stop trying to maximize the efficiency of the refrigeration system. The condenser fan motor that came with this unit( • Sharp Condensing Unit ... ) was far too slow to my liking. I went back to the guy that sold me this unit to swap the original 500 RPM motor to a 990 RPM motor. The 990 RPM motor brought the lowest evaporator temp record from 19°C to 15°C. Add the water sprayers into the equation, and they got the evap to about 12°C.
    With the big beefy motor, the evaporator low temp record thing has plunged to 4°C. The air coming out of the indoor unit feels substantially colder compared to when the outdoor unit was still coping with the snail paced 500 RPM motor. Now, the 2 speed National condenser fan motor I put on can deal with a load much heavier than the metal blades currently mounted on it(this motor(and CKE grille) was once used for the window fan in my shop. The blade I had on there was 18 inches in diameter, with 4 deeply pitched blades( • My Workshop's Ventilat... )). So if I can source a deeper pitched fan blade that can fit in the unit, I might be able to get the evap temprature to go below 0°C.
    I could almost see the day when I jam in an industrial 12 bladed 3 phase axial drum fan in there. So stay tune for more dumb(well maybe not) upgrades on my AC. I'm planning on making a heatpump for my fan room too so... yeah I think it's safe to say that I'm a fan, & aircon guy now.

    Nice modification 👍👍 Reminds me of those condensors that are using metal blade Torin branded fan blades, which most of the time will make the indoor unit temp colder than usual, such as Carrier, McQuay/York/Acson commercial line of air conditioner.

      Thanks! I honestly prefer the look of condensing units that use metal bladed fans. They just look more industrial-y & strong somehow

    Basically, normal Air Conditioner's indoor air outlet temperature is 10°C - 20°C
    But you made a very Awesome Modification on your Air Conditioner that makes the Indoor unit's air outlet temperature colder. And if the indoor temperature reaches below 0°C, your room will might be like a freezer because it's very cold...

    • @TheFanUniverse
      @TheFanUniverse  3 роки тому +4

      With the original fan, the air coming out of the indoor unit was 22°C on average. With this new hack job, the air coming out is around 17°C. It's still a low power AC though, there's no way it could get the air temprature in my room to go below 19°C without changing the outdoor unit to a bigger capacity one.

    Its hell here in Manila right now very hot 🥵 For me "aircon" means "i want freezing temp" ❄️❄️❄️❄️
    Suggestion: Place hard ice on the water pan. Not ice cubes it melts easily - but hard ice by placing water in plastic ice bag fill it to the brim and place it in the ref

    • @TheFanUniverse
      @TheFanUniverse  2 роки тому

      Man, I hope it gets cooler soon up there. Actually placing raw ice in a tub of water won’t make much of a difference than placing the ice in a bag before putting it in the water. If anything you’re wasting a bit of energy by placing a barrier/insulator between the ice & water.

    You said an upgrade with a 46 watt fan. Use the OEM motor…6 watts was the design, otherwise you have a different problem. Also the first 46 watt fan was a counterclockwise rotation, hardly a good swap for a clockwise fan blade..

    • @TheFanUniverse
      @TheFanUniverse  6 місяців тому

      As far as power is concerned, nothing went above what’s rated for the unit. Fan blade rotation doesn’t really affect airflow performance as long as the motor’s rotation is correct for the particular bladeset installed. I have since stripped out all the modifications done to this unit & returned it back to original

  • @Theutmostgeek
    @Theutmostgeek 3 роки тому +4

    also you might wanna find a more weather sheilded area for that switch as I dont think it will survive the monsoon season you guys have. maybe if you want to go full fancy mode then how about a temp controlled switch which will change the speed of the fan and turn on the water

    • @TheFanUniverse
      @TheFanUniverse  3 роки тому +1

      That's what I've been thinking about. It'll be great if the unit can switch the motor power levels by itself according to the time of day, outdoor temprature, and indoor unit settings. But covering the switch with a plastic bag will do for now.
