A Genta-esque look, the class of the 70's Omega's but without the reliability issues. Affordable price. You certainly can't go wrong with that one, seems like a great daily!
I have a Tissot automatic chronograph and it needed servicing. Having been still under warranty, I was lucky to live just an half hour drive from Tissot's service center. The customer service was impeccable. Even thought they did not really find anything wrong they still brought back up to there manufacturer's brand new standard, so it like like getting it new again. I have no fear in getting a Tissot knowing they have fantastic customer service and an excellent service and repair department.
@@bboooobbyy It started running too fast. They did not know why but reset it anyway and it has been running perfectly ever since. That was about 2 years ago.
@@alexlamas6324 That's the typical symptom of a watch that has been magnetized. A few seconds on the demagnetizer and it will be running properly again.
@@benjaminbarrera214 Peculiar, as most all of Tissots movements have a good amount of silicon parts. Anti-magnetism is kinda their thing. Silicium mainsprings, silicium escapements on some, etc. Perhaps that's why it "wasn't broken" but still "needed servicing"?
I just purchased this watch as my first automatic - real time piece I agree 100% with everything he said. I am so impressed with the quality of the bracelet and I absolutely love looking into the back and seeing the movement. Saw this watch on a client’s wrist. We chatted…he loves the watch. I bought one. This is an absolutely beautiful watch. This Tissot is going to get a lot of wrist time. Can’t recommend it enough…money very well spent.
I think the entry level Swiss brands like Tissot are absolutely killing it lately. Perhaps they're vying for the void left as Seiko moves upmarket with their thousand-dollar Prospex's now. This one would be a home run if it were just a bit smaller, and for that I prefer the Tissot Gentleman. That one is very Aqua Terra-esque without the hefty price tag.
seiko is still struggling to have a more accurate movement and stable qc for their entry level watches. not to mention the size and design mostly look cheap to me. entry level swatch and some micro brands ftw
I have had the blue Gentleman for a year now and really really happy with it. Great look and feel, very accurate and a ‘strap monster’ if you can get past the 21mm lug constraint.
I believe the exact opposite.Tissot and Hamilton as part of the swatch group are taking a very worrisome path. The powermatic 80 is impressive with it's accuracy and power reserve at this price point but not everything is great. The movement is very tough to work with even for very experienced watchmakers. The supply of parts from ETA is being reduced constantly. If your watch has a problem then you have to send it to an official partner of the company.Or even to Switzerland. That would cost way more than a local watchmaker you trust and would deprive you of the watch for quite some time. Not to mention its heard they just replace your movement with someone else's repaired movement.I am sorry but my watch is most of all the movement not the case or the strap.Last but not least automatic watches are objects to last for generations.I have a Universal Geneve watch from the 60s from my grandfather. The company is closed but my local watchmaker that i trust has my watch running no problemo. Can you predict the same for a laser regulated weirdly modified ETA movement with non easily available Nylon parts if Tissot or Hamilton for example shut down?it may not seem likely but 50 years is a long time.. Seiko may have some QC issues and half the power reserve or less accuracy but their classicly built movements are proven workhorses like the simple ETA 2824-2 was. They work for decades even without service and every small town on earth will have a watchmaker that knows how to work with them. Personally i am really worried for the path Swatch has chosen for it's entry level brands..
Hello! Picking up my Dad's first proper watch this week and surprise surprise it's a Tissot. The gentleman rather than prx but this is still a great watch! Onwards and upwards :)
A great choice my friend, in many ways the "Gentleman" is much more classic, nothing but good taste. Your father I am sure, must be very proud of you. Thank you Tom, keep being awesome my friend. Best regards, TGV
It's done on purpose. Because the Tissot is just another brand in the portfolio of the Swatch group. It would compete with others. A Certina diver was available in 41mm variant, which is most popular size for a diver. And now is only available in 38 and 43.

Very impressed with the styling, fit and finish of the quartz PRX. Lots of pros (many mentioned in the review), but likewise numerous cons. I love that movement. I have a Tissot Seastar Powermatic 80 I picked up preowned. After servicing, it consistently runs within COSC standards and the power reserve is very much appreciated!
I understand for your preference the 36mm would be the perfect fit especially taking the era into consideration, I think the 40mm modern size will sell like hot cakes to the general public. Tissot’s majority of the lineup is larger sizes and honestly they are killing it. Their market share grew last year and they are one of the top ten brands now. That being said, I wish it was a tad bit smaller at 38 but I still enjoy wearing mine a lot. The finishing is incredible for the price point.
Bought the black dial quartz, after wearing it for a few days and loving it so much so that I went ahead and purchased the blue dial automatic version. Both look great.
It’s cool but… the size. I think you’re spot on at 36mm, it just presents too large as is due to the case shape. It would wear fine as is since I have a larger wrist but I’m with you, 36-38mm and I’d have one in a heartbeat.

I bought a blue one a few days ago and wow this is a real stunning looking timepiece. I really like it very much. The built quality is very good for such a quite cheap watch, but what impresses me most is how slim it is, it fits perfect on my Wrist. And it combines perfect the Attributes of a Spotswatch and a Dresswatch in my option, you can combine it with a formal dress like a suit but also with Polo and Jeans wearing Sneakers to it. And it is also a nice Effect that it has a Waterresistence of 100 Meters/330 Feet although not having a screw down crown, you don’t have to be afraid to get in contact with Water. Really great buy imho.
Seeing the watch on your wrist was really an eye opener about the size. This watch was somewhat on my radar because I like the 70’s aesthetic but the size is clearly not for me.
TGV, any other apparent watch reviewer on YT would ask Tissot to pony up for a free review watch, but you, with your integrity and reputation, purchase direct from the manufacturer as we would, as normal consumers. Your the original and best mate. Lovely watch.
Well, Mr TGV - thanks to you I am getting addicted to watches and I bought my first two watches for my collection - a Casio F-108WH-8A2CF to knock around in and a Citizen Men's AR3074-54E Eco-Drive (38mm, beautiful black dial, rose gold, sapphire crystal) for casual elegance. I will also be restoring my dad's Rolex and Seamaster for my high-end watches. NOW YOU DID IT!
It's without a doubt a beautiful watch to look at...I don't know. Neither the quartz version nor this one convince me completely. Maybe not for me, but a good value watch for sure! Thank you for the video TGV!
So glad to see a Tissot review from you. I do not own a mechanical watch and am looking to get in to them. I got on a waiting list for a HELM. I wanted the full experience of buying a watch for my first and love divers. But Tissot and Certina on at the top of my list for a second. Love your reviews. Thanks you.
Very good looking piece. I think it has the most amount of character in the Tissot line up. We all respect Tissot but we kind of saw them as good but generic watches. Now this one is going to be a future classic
I have a Omega Geneve 166.099 from the 70's and it really do looks quite similar to the PRX. I do love these style of watches with integrated bracelet.
As an apprentice watchmaker, I agree with your reservations about the movement. In my view, this balance system inhibits long-term accuracy and serviceability. Sadly, Tissot is not the only Swatch Group brand using this system. The vast majority of Hamilton's 80-hour movements have the same balance as well as a few Certina's. Regardless, fantastic review, TGV. Thank you so much for all you do. All the best to you and yours, -Branyon
Thank you so much Michael, your comment (as you are a watchmaker especially) is deeply appreciated. Excellent point about Swatch, I am so glad you share this. Best regards, TGV
@@pedronogueira8148 I apologize for the late reply. The reason the Powermatic 80 inhibits long-term serviceability is due to the use of a plastic escape wheel and pallet fork. It seems Tissot is increasing the use of plastic parts in the balance and gear train, which leads to direct replacement instead of the standard clean, oil, and adjust. Also, the balance is near impossible to accurately regulate unless you have the laser system Tissot uses.
@@darrenfry4695 In my opinion, the NH35/6 is one of the most robust and reliable movements on the market today. Plus, it is a movement that is super easy to maintain.
after viewing this video before purchasing the blue dial version, and viewing it 2x after, I have to say I agree with almost every single point TGV made for and against this piece’s attributes. Straight to it, my wrist is 7.25” (18.5cm) on a very slim frame and this watch wears exactly like a 41mm rolex datejust, which is perfect for me by contemporary standards, but anything under 7” will not wear very nicely. Only disagreement I have with the assessment in this video is the criticism of the display case-back adding unnecessary width….the thickness is just fine at a 10.9 trivial mm for god’s sake *edit* This was a great review video as consistently expected from this channel. Always a fan first, critic a distant second (no pun intended)
Very nice watch, despite its negatives. The size is interesting, and I've always said the lug to lug is more critical than size when considering how a watch wears. I'm still loving my Tissot which was the last watch I bought. It's a fantastic brand. Shame this one wasn't one for you, onwards on upwards sir 👍
It's been months I've been searching for a sub 1,000 watch and I was closing in on the Seastar but its hands looked like an afterthought. This right here, a timely release, will be my 2021 purchase. Thank you, TUG.
Very true, there are not many vintage-style watches that are actually the correct size. There are a few but they are generally marketed as women's watches, don't forget to look at those.
Very well, done my friend! First thoughts though….where the heck was the intro! Haha! I know you must be as busy as the rest of us. I find it remarkably admirable that you took the time and resources to PURCHASE this piece in order to review it, with the understanding that it very likely may not pass muster to stay in your collection. I find your preview quite fair and honest. I totally agree with every bit of what you said. The presence on the wrist was an encumbrance do to the way it wore for me. I like the “bolt action” design of the bracelet but good luck finding a non Tissot star for it. I agree. Not for me, but I can see why so many like it. Thank you very much, as always. Hope you are well! Onward and upward, my friend!
I received a Tissot Powermatic 80 last week and this is one heck of a timepiece. It looses not one second per day. I’m very impressed by the quality for 289 dollars.
Glad to see this review. As a small-wristed guy, I had been holding off based on fears of it wearing large. Glad I waited for you to check it out! Let's cross our fingers for a 36mm.
Omg thank you for reviewing this watch. I almost pulled the trigger of buying this watch but was afraid of the size since I have a small wrist. And yes if tissot made this in a smaller size I would buy it!

Your wish has come true. Tissot just introduced a 36mm version of the PRX. I’m considering one myself. Sounds like excellent quality for the price based on your very complete and nicely done review.
It is actually 35mm, not 36. I tried one today and it is super super tiny, unfortunately. I was almost sure that it would be perfect for my 17cm wrist and my preferences (I wear 36-38mm watches regularly), but no chance. The dial is super tiny, the lug to lug is 39mm (without the first link), the bracelet was actually hard to pass my hand and at max I would have to remove a link. With the bracelet it increases the l2l distance, but still...the first links are already pointing downwards and to me, it still wore small. And I can only imagine how tiny it would look on the leather and rubber straps (assuming that Tissot will release some in the future). To me the newer version just doesn't work, unfortunately. I really was super convinced that it would perfect and I was waiting for an automatic version, but I'll definitely pass. I'd rather wear the 40 in this case. I believe this is the type of watch that should always be tried in person, it is an odd one and doesn't wear like a regular watch - the case and dial dimensions are tiny, making it look smaller on wrist, yet the lug to lug with the bracelet is huge. Looks are always subjective, but I'd say the 35mm will work for 15/16cm at the max. I am super curious to hear more opinions on the new 35mm versions. I wish they released a 37-38mm, at 35 I think they shrank it too much - at least for my wrist and preferences. Maybe a mid-size is in the future, but I highly doubt it.
Thank you TGV for another great review! The only Tissot watch I currently own is 18k gold Tissot goldrun which I inherited from my grandfather. I love it’s size which is between 36-38mm. All gold including the bracelet which is very comfortable. Stay Healthy and Well! Nick
While Tissot may actually be the most popular Swiss watch brand (after Swatch?) in Central Europe, it's primarily the quartz models so I've never actually encountered a Powermatic powered model in the past. The regulation system honestly, how do I phrase it, doesn't spark joy in me. Btw. I don't think anyone can claim the concept of the smart watch, pretty sure fiction writers came up with that as soon as wristwatches became popular at some point between 1920 and 1950, maybe even earlier.
Man likes watch. Man buys watch. Man reviews watch. How refreshing that he doesn't need to be sent a freebie to produce a video. So Gentry! 👍 Oh, and that intro music had my modest car speakers kicking bass. Wow.
Very nicely done! Loved the updated and more slick editing for an unboxing / review; not on a table, measuring all the dimensions at the same time. Loved the editing going back and forth from narrative to in front of the camera... Very very slick and brilliant presentation sir! Yours in awe, CR. Tally Bally Ho!
I agree with you on the size: I would also like to see a 36mm instead of the 40mm. Also, it's a pitty that they used the 80.111 (ETA C07.111) movement instead of their 80.811 (ETA C07.811) movement that is used in the Tissot Gentleman: this one has a silicon hairspring and jewels on the pallet fork. On the other hand, I do NOT agree with you on the fact that the watch would be difficult to regulate. It does not have a common regulator, but the watch can be regulated by the weights on the balance wheel. I never hear that complaint for other high end watches that use a free sprung hair spring (like many of the high end watches). Anyway, if your watchmaker does not know what to do with the watch: a complete revision (and repair) of the watch with an official Tissot service center will cost € 150 (somewhat more in Dollars). That is by no means the end of the world and certainly an order of magnitude less than what you would pay for an high end watch.
Oris has this watch styling in the Star Crystal at 38mm, 21j, and an ETA movement. It's an 80' watch. The bracelet is jangly and not robust, but you get an OCTAGONAL BEZEL!!! Selling online for $200 or less.
@TGV. Try it on the DeLugs rubber straps, which will eliminate the problem of the over flaring bracelet on smaller wrists. You will love the PRX then 😊👌🏼
Agreed on the size. My first "Swiss Watch" was a 1978 Hamilton Military Field Watch complete with NSN markings on the back. It still keeps damn good time and I wear it a lot. But when traveling, it's the Casio Oceanus S100 for it's atomic sync and easy time zone setting. And it's the perfect size for your cultured manlet wrist. ;-)
Nice review as always. I tend to agree regarding the size, I feel the same way about the Zenith Defy Classic. I tried on the quartz PRX and was very disappointed by the strap quality, I know its couple of hundred pounds but I felt the strap was very poor.
Sylvain that ran Hamilton for 9 years now runs Tissot. Get ready for some awesome releases from Tissot! What wasnt mention in this review is that the Powermatic 80 now uses a Nivachron hairspring which is a titanium based alloy. Further more, the hairspring was co developed and used by Audemars Piquet! As for using friction pins as apposed to screwed links, friction pins are far more secure. Heck, even Patek uses friction pins on some newer models!
Love the case and the aesthetics of the bracelet and the general look and finish, but if I'm being honest, the dial looks like an afterthought to me. I think I would rather spend my $700 on a true 70's vintage piece like a Seamaster or something similar...

Its nice - I still prefer the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium. I think the look of the Gentlemen is more classic everyday. Also the extra silicon balance spring improves accuracy and is a nice value add. As for the size, I have larger wrists and 40-42mm is my sweet spot.
Tissot botched the PRX quartz release. Every review watch was unregulated garbage. No one wants a watch that the second hand CAN'T hit the indices, especially for almost $400. If my Casio Duro can do that at 1/7th the price, why would I spend one extra penny? Having said that, the Powermatic solves those issues and looks like a hit. It just sucks when a brand like Tissot screws the QC pooch.

An absolute pleasure and thank you for the support.
Best regards,
TGV
Couldn't agree with you more 👍
Wait for the Longines heritage sector black....
Your Italian is coming along great, cant wait to see your collaboration with the Italian speaking watch channels you hold dear to your heart. Cheers!
This in 36MM would be PURE CLASS.

I love that people love good sized watches
So glad to see a Tissot review from you. I do not own a mechanical watch and am looking to get in to them. I got on a waiting list for a HELM. I wanted the full experience of buying a watch for my first and love divers. But Tissot and Certina on at the top of my list for a second. Love your reviews. Thanks you.
Very good looking piece. I think it has the most amount of character in the Tissot line up. We all respect Tissot but we kind of saw them as good but generic watches. Now this one is going to be a future classic
Great review. I would totally dig a silver dial, 36mm version!
Watch for the 36mm version coming out soon.
Another example of the "TGV" effect... Beautifully edited, honest & masterfully presented. Keep up the stellar work, my friend.
All the best to you and yours,
-Branyon
Thank you so much Michael, your comment (as you are a watchmaker especially) is deeply appreciated.
Excellent point about Swatch, I am so glad you share this.
Best regards,
TGV
Why does this movement inhibit long-term serviceability?
Hi I'd like to ask what do you think of the NH35/6 movement ,thanks.
@@pedronogueira8148
I apologize for the late reply.
@@darrenfry4695
In my opinion, the NH35/6 is one of the most robust and reliable movements on the market today. Plus, it is a movement that is super easy to maintain.
The quality of your videos never fails to amaze me. Thank you for such great content!
after viewing this video before purchasing the blue dial version, and viewing it 2x after, I have to say I agree with almost every single point TGV made for and against this piece’s attributes. Straight to it, my wrist is 7.25” (18.5cm) on a very slim frame and this watch wears exactly like a 41mm rolex datejust, which is perfect for me by contemporary standards, but anything under 7” will not wear very nicely. Only disagreement I have with the assessment in this video is the criticism of the display case-back adding unnecessary width….the thickness is just fine at a 10.9 trivial mm for god’s sake
*edit* This was a great review video as consistently expected from this channel. Always a fan first, critic a distant second (no pun intended)
This has the feel of some of your older videos, really enjoyed the breakdown and macro camerawork. Well done Guvna' !!
And then you pull out the Speedy. Damnit. HAHA
the size is the only reason I didn't buy the quartz or this version
Yes, the size is ridiculous.
It’s so annoying that vintage style watches are often so huge, it makes a beautiful watch look terribly out off proportion on most wrists
Very true, there are not many vintage-style watches that are actually the correct size. There are a few but they are generally marketed as women's watches, don't forget to look at those.
I do agree with your statement, I have small wrist and 40mm seem big but I just don’t care, I just buy them if I like them
A very thorough review for an 'unbox quick review'!! Always enjoy hearing your assessments, very edifying to me. Thanks so!
Gotta love that dial but idk I think I'm still edging towards the quartz version! The ease of use of a quartz plus a great price is just too good😁
Very well, done my friend!
The same piece from the movie ?
I just picked up a Gentleman Powermatic 80 and really love it. It keeps incredible time. Better than some of my other Swiss-made watches.
Brilliant watch just got it as my first swiss watches for my 21st birthday and I'm in love with it.
Saw the IG post, been eyeing this piece and had to jump straight into YT to see, cheers
Glad to see this review. As a small-wristed guy, I had been holding off based on fears of it wearing large. Glad I waited for you to check it out! Let's cross our fingers for a 36mm.
Almost perfect !! Cut that size down, similar to the Q Timex, and it would be an instant buy.
No thanks
Any smaller and I can give it my 8 year old daughter....
Couldn't agree more. I was so disappointed when I found out the size. Such a handsome, quality watch
My very first thought was that it looked similar to the Timex Q!
@@MisterMaster4life expensive gift
Omg thank you for reviewing this watch. I almost pulled the trigger of buying this watch but was afraid of the size since I have a small wrist. And yes if tissot made this in a smaller size I would buy it!
Oris has this watch styling in the Star Crystal at 38mm, 21j, and an ETA movement. It's an 80' watch. The bracelet is jangly and not robust, but you get an OCTAGONAL BEZEL!!! Selling online for $200 or less.
This watch is a beauty, but im going for the quartz version👌
What is the best bro?
Tissot gentlemen quartz or gentlemen powermatic
It is such a gorgeous watch and very understated but it really would be better at 38mm. I think wearing as a 40mm would be perfect.
That intro is one of the greatest thing i've seen
Thank you TGV for another great review! The only Tissot watch I currently own is 18k gold Tissot goldrun which I inherited from my grandfather. I love it’s size which is between 36-38mm. All gold including the bracelet which is very comfortable. Stay Healthy and Well! Nick
Nice work TGV,... as usual. Always a pleasure.
So Gentry! 👍
Oh, and that intro music had my modest car speakers kicking bass. Wow.
If this had the same dial as the quartz version, I'd own it already
Very nicely done!
Loved the updated and more slick editing for an unboxing / review; not on a table, measuring all the dimensions at the same time. Loved the editing going back and forth from narrative to in front of the camera... Very very slick and brilliant presentation sir!
Yours in awe,
CR. Tally Bally Ho!
I have the quartz version and absolutely love it. It's like a more dressy version of the Q Timex.
AHHHHH LOVE THIS! I've been waiting for someone to get their hands on one of these. A fantastic watch!
YES LOVE THE WAY YOU SHOW THE F-91 in your intro
Man, if it was 36mm I would be all over that!!

Pulling the trigger on a great watch is not a moment of weakness, it's a moment of fun!
My friend has one, great for the value.
@TGV. Try it on the DeLugs rubber straps, which will eliminate the problem of the over flaring bracelet on smaller wrists. You will love the PRX then 😊👌🏼
The friendliest Godfather I've had the pleasure of meeting..."Leave the [watch], take the cannoli!"

That's the most well though review I've seen on them. Kudos.
How do his intro’s get so good
Bought this blue variant as my first ever automatic watch this week.. Awesome watch.. Love it so much..
Absolutely brilliant video review. No BS, some great detail and opinion. Well done
They made such a great piece just to mess up on the size! I was so ready to pick one up. What a disappointment...

Great videos as usual, keep up the good work and good luck for the future.
Tristano, you're the boss of the watches community on UA-cam, love from Sicily
Tissot botched the PRX quartz release. Every review watch was unregulated garbage. No one wants a watch that the second hand CAN'T hit the indices, especially for almost $400. If my Casio Duro can do that at 1/7th the price, why would I spend one extra penny?
Having said that, the Powermatic solves those issues and looks like a hit. It just sucks when a brand like Tissot screws the QC pooch.
I have the Tissot gentleman powermatic 80 Silicum. Which was my 15th birthday 🎁. My favorite watch ever.
