    Hello, I purchased the blue automatic watch. When I was sixteen my dad gave me a seiko with a waffle dial in blue, it was the beginning of my love affair with watches. I am 58 and still adding more watches to the collection. Teddy, I love your videos and reviews.

    I grabbed the blue mechanical the first day that it was available, and it has seen a large amount of wrist time ever since. It punches FAR above its price tag, and tracks close (but not quite) to COSC accuracy. It's a fantastic value proposition.

    • @basedpatriotLT

      could you elaborate why it punch far above price tag?

    • @bipennate
      @bipennate 3 роки тому +33

      @@basedpatriotLT the finishing on the case and bracelet is excellent and the overall execution is very impressive and well-made, with touches of polished surfaces throughout adding visual details. Other value-proposition watches in this price range rarely come close. The movement is 80 hours, anti-magnetic and shock resistant, which is really unheard of at this price, or even double our triple the price. It's really an exceptional offering. If this watch was $1300 I'd still argue that this was best in class, but it's half that amount.

      How is the finish holding up? Is it thin enough to use as a dress watch?

    • @bipennate
      @bipennate 2 роки тому +1

      @@UA-camuser1aa It's held up fantastically. The finishing is still excellent, and the polished areas are very well placed and don't end up being scratched much if at all (certainly not on the bracelet). It's definitely thin enough to slide under a cuff, although it's a bit too sporty to do that with proper formal wear, imo, and although it's fairly thin, it still sits a bit higher on the wrist because of the way that the bracelet interacts with the case (my only real complaint of the watch). But it's definitely still one of my favorites in my collection and regularly receives compliments from others.

    Tissot, probably more than any other Swiss watch maker, has served as the gateway for neophytes with modest incomes to get into to the world of Swiss watch collecting. So many other Swiss watch makers make the barrier to entry so expensive, that for nascent watch enthusiasts with not much discretionary income, it becomes discouraging. That is why I love it when UA-cam channels do videos on Tissot. They deserve the exposure. Thank you Teddy for being one of the more vocal proponents of Tissot watches.

    I love the look of the design of the modern retro 80's PRX, either quartz battery or mechanical. If I had to choose one it would be the blue dial but by only a small margin, the mechanical waffle version over the quartz flat version. This is definitely a great watch for daily office wear and out and about. The beauty of the mechanical is that just wind it, set it and wear it, no battery worries here but you will have to set it more often than the quartz one.

    Yesterday I broke down and ordered blue PRX with the leather strap instead of the bracelet. I wanted to go back and watch Teddy's review from when this was released. I'm glad he addressed the strap situation, as that had been a concern of mine. However, I found a company in Europe (they also do business via Etsy) that is making an adapter for the PRX so that a standard watch strap or NATO strap can be used with it. Etsy had quite a few photos of it used on several watches, and I must say it finished so well that you'd be excused for thinking it came from Tissot. It's fairly small, but looks like a thin link where it joins the case, just enough to allow for standard pins. Now, for a small watch part, a pair of them come in at little over $100 USD, but they are custom built and finished for the PRX. Still, it's worth it to allow for a more flexible choice of straps (which are still in 2022 few and far between, usually bespoke items beyond the replacement straps offered by Tissot). The company is called aqNaut, and they also make adapters for integrated watches such as Oris.

I got a killer deal on it as well; Bloomingdales had a 25% off sale during the holidays and I had bought my wife a nice coat the day before which gave us $200 worth of Bloomingdales loyalty points through the app so it ended up coming out to $370.

    Correction: The “laser regulated at the factory” only applies to the Swissmatic C15.111 and not to the Powermatic C07/C80 - those are regulated by two eccentric weights on the balance arms and those are adjustable (if you have the tool). The C15 cannot be regulated, only demagnetized in case it’s suddenly running too fast.

    • @MrShinobi797
      @MrShinobi797 3 роки тому

      Jack from Hodinkee also mentioned that the Powermatic 80 is “ Laser Regulated " , in his review of this watch. Another UA-camr also said same. Care to share some reference to what you are saying?? Else I'll be sticking to their word over yours.

    • @peterdegelaen
      @peterdegelaen 3 роки тому +1

      @@MrShinobi797 I second @Andy C comment. The watch can indeed be regulated with the two excentric screws on the balance wheel. That does not mean that in the production process Tissot does not use some laser technology to regulate the watch (it may be as stupid as using a laser to check that the two opposing weights are in balance), but it is a hoax that the watch could not be regulated by a normally skilled watchmaker who knows what he is doing.

    • @MrShinobi797
      @MrShinobi797 3 роки тому

      @@peterdegelaen Nah ...I'm not disputing the ability to “ Regulate " the movement. A skilled watchmaker can get it done. But I believe the movement IS Laser Regulated at the factory...at least to some degree ( Hence the “ High Tech " designation on the Rotor ).

      I have an early Powermatic 80 that I dropped on concrete and it started losing time with something inside clicking when I shook the watch. I had the watch serviced by a local watchmaker who is ETA certified. He fixed and regulated the watch and now works like new. So yes, you are correct it can be serviced.

    • @TeddyBaldassarre
      @TeddyBaldassarre  3 роки тому +17

      Hi Andy, thanks for the comment. Just wanted to clarify here, you are correct in that the c15.11 is laser regulated and given that is the swatch sistem 51 movement, it is not serviceable. That said, this one is also laser regulated and is absent the traditional regulator. You are also correct that this can be serviced unlike the c15.111. As another source I have included two other places that speak to the reason for laser regulation: monochrome-watches.com/swatch-groups-powermatic-movement-a-powerful-entry-level-engine/

    Nice comparison on quartz vs mechanical. while the quartz makes logical sense over the powermatic, I’d have to go with the latter. The waffle pattern really made the watch for me. I've hesitated a long time but I've decided on the quartz. For me it'll be more of a weekend watch and I know if I need to wind it up more often than not I just won't wear it... not to mention I feel this a a much closer homage to the Oysterquartz than it is to the Royal Oak.

My other watches are at a higher price point where scratches, an impromptu dip in the ocean, showering, working out etc would muck them up. After watching several videos and pictures of this on different sized wrists, I believe wrist flatness has a lot to do with how this will fit. I saw a video of this on a 6.5” flat wrist and it looked awesome, and then a picture of it on a more round 7” wrist and it looked awful. I love both versions but for me, the quartz is more aligned to the late 70's and early 80s aesthetic making the watch feel horologically period correct.
    Auto is great too but just seems a bit more out on its own.

      I've tried on the black quartz version and if I wasn't waiting on the blue auto I'd have bought it on the spot. It's really nice and the subtle vertical brushing on the dial looks classy. I saw the blue quartz version today and maybe the lighting wasn't great but it just wasn't as good as the black one.
      As someone pointed out on a watch forum the prx looks a lot like the rolex oyster quartz. Which itself is probably just a Genta homage as well.

    The shape of the case and integrated bracelet reminds me of an Omega my parents gave me for my 21st birthday several decades ago. Sadly the watch was stolen. Although not exactly the same, I am considering this watch as a reminder of my original. Will have to see one in person to make a decision.

    I got the quartz white (really silver) dial, and I was surprised how well it reads in all light, one thing I was afraid of is a lack of any anti-reflective coating but it sure looks like there is some to me...... Like some other reviews, mine bought from Tissot official dealer has misalignment on the seconds hand but only from 55-59 which for me is not acceptible per se' but i can deal with it at this price point.
    Love the white dial, didn't bother with the automatic since I have an 15000ST already and just want a watch I can wear in ALL situations without worrying about losing my kid's college tuition from my wrist. I would recommend it.

    I've waited for something like this for what feels like years. An automatic steel sports watch around £500 with an integrated bracelet from a decent brand with heritage and quality that you can trust. Finally my dreams are answered.....but it's too bloody big!!!! This should have been 38mm and it would have been perfect imo. It looks huge on wrist :(

    • @nicerides9224
      @nicerides9224 3 роки тому +3

      Maybe the fact that the first link is fixed will make it sit large on some wrists but I thought it the perfect size. There's a lot of oversize watches out there today and this looks very reasonable in comparison.

    Love how you showcase timepieces, Teddy. I am a big fan of what you do, as you have really helped pique my interest in horology. I wanted to suggest for future reviews showing larger wrist sizes. It seems like 6" -6.5" wrists are most often showcased, but if you offer more variety and some examples in the 7.25" - 7.5" wrist size, it would be helpful to us who have slightly larger wrists. I will need to find one in person or examples of a larger wrist before pulling the trigger, but if all works well, I will add this to the collection.
