I got into Sleep Token when sundown was the only full length album and it was Dark Signs that made me realise just how big they were going to be. It highlighted not only their creativity and genre bending, but that they had a sound that was relevant, modern, alternative yet accessible to a main stream audience as well as the metal crowd. I knew them they were gonna blow up eventually.

As a musician it’s hard to find a band and lyricist that just doesn’t miss for me. Sleep Token is one of them though. Great reaction again guys, always looking forward to the next one.
Imagine being this talented... and unknown for years. I was late to the game by finding them in 2020, but I've been waiting for this project to blow up ever since. Now I get the pleasure of seeing people find their cataloged for the first time. Love you guys!

For me this song is severely underrated. I either cry when I hear it or feel very hopeful and I think it's just a damn gorgeous song
this song was SO important to me when I was freshly out of a 10-year relationship with someone I loved but had turned abusive; I was constantly praying to my gods (I'm a polytheist) that I could forget, that the memories would disappear, "levitate, up where my love doesn't matter, where I won't reach you"

Best lyricist is such a lofty title, and I love that you are both willing yet hesitant to bestow it onto Vessel. It's no small matter, but I am also tempted to agree that he just may be the best. I know that a healthy dose of bias comes with this as lyricists from generations past or genres unfamiliar may not hit for me like Vessel does. All the same, I can't remember ever being emotionally manipulated and thrust into turmoil the way Vessel does. I want to say Third Eye Blind is a close second, but honestly they've never had me up until 5am bawling my eyes out like Sleep Token does...
Sleep Token fanboying aside, I’m super glad I found you guys. Out of all of the reaction videos I watch for music, you all are my go to and always will be. Thanks for pumping out great content and focusing on not only the music but the lyrics and their meaning. You guys are fucking awesome.

What I really like about Sleep Token is their ability to blend different styles and genres. It could easily sound disjointed / fragmented but they always find a way to make it work - plus the lyrics are just beautiful. Great song!
I put Vessel in the lyrical genre of those like, MJK and MOST of the old 90's vocalists. He brings back a story telling in music that just does not exist, in too many modern songs, in my opinion. You have Cory Taylor who can do that in some of his songs and Ronnie of course. Vessel is bringing back the emotion in music and I love to hear it! Love the reactions gentlemen! #Worship

This was the first song I ever heard from them. I was taking a walk in the park when the song started playing in my Discover Weekly playlist. I had to stop, followed them on all platforms, and I've never looked back since. Now, 4.5 years later, "Sundowning" remains their best album and will always hold a special place in my heart.

Whoa, I love your discovery story; mine was similar. Nazareth showed up on my Discover Weekly playlist years ago while I was working. I obsessively listened to that one track on repeat for hours before listening to their EPs. Sundowning wasn't out yet and I should have started following them (you're smart), but I didn't and so missed that whole album coming out for months. I heard it for the first time a couple weeks after the death of a loved one in 2020; Levitate was devastating and exactly what I needed. Holds a special place in my heart, too.

Excited to see the journey through this album and TPWBYT. Hopefully you see this, but when you get to the final track on this album you should absolutely do a double feature and do Bloodsport live from the Room Below along with the actual album track with the visualizer. Two different takes on the same song, and equally powerful in different ways
This is my favorite song off of the Sundowning album, Blood Sport (from the room below) is a close second. Hell, they may be tied 😂. Beautiful songs....it's hard to pick just one!!!
His lyrics are beautifully tragic. This song reminds me of a gospel song, with the fills and how it slowly climbs to a crescendo.
Listening to the lyrics it's like you can almost tell that this is some deep trauma, be it physical with an actual accident of some kind, or emotional that he has suffered is very apparent. I'm just so glad he has blessed the world with his beautiful music and voice. He's practically the best poet/lyricist I've ever heard. He always leaves you wanting more❤

I'm freaking crying. Every time i hear "where the angels inhabit" my mind just remembers people I have lost throughout my life.
Sleep Token are so good at creating an atmosphere. I sometimes use their music as sort of a prayer aid. I was listening to this the other day, thinking about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and bawling my eyes out. Sometimes it's about the vibe of the music. I think the reason we all resonate with this music is because you can hear the hearts and souls of the people who made it. Vessel is one of those once in a generation vocalist/songwriter that we are truly blessed to have.
You guys should do "Higher"! :)

It's so interesting to hear people's reactions to Vessel's lyrics! I've spent a lot of time with poetry (and poets), both reading and writing it. There's some out-there stuff in the Norwegian canon. Like Tor Ulven, that dude's got some really obscure poems, and he's hailed as a genius. Song lyrics and poems are two sides of the same coin to me, and working with the art myself... I don't know, I don't personally think it's *that* difficult to find new ways of expressing old emotions and ideas; that's kind of our jobs as poets and lyricists. If we can't do that, then we've at least partly failed. (IMO!) So listening to Sleep Token, my mind isn't blown away, I'm more like "yes, finally something *decent!"* It tickles the poetry part of my brain, which is nice :)

I just started listening to Sleep Token last month and they rocketed to my favorite band, singer, lyricist so fast. Vessel is a person that I will likely follow in whatever projects he chooses to do either moving forward with Sleep Token or moving on to another project. No comparison in my mind. I appreciate you two going through their discography because I love seeing your reactions and it gives me a chance to see if my own reaction is similar. I tell everyone now that I consider Sleep Token "ambient metal" because they've freaking replaced my ASMR playlist and I fall asleep to them now, no matter their songs like Euclid or Fall For You or Vore lol. It scratches all the good parts of my mind. Anyway, look forward to more!
Out of all the reactors on UA-cam you two are my favorite. I don't subscribe to anyone, but as of today Rykerroad will be the first. The breakdowns are great and I'm a hip hop and metal head. I'm a lyrics first musical composition 2nd and we are all on this Sleep Token journey. Mine started on June 4th 2023, one of the best bands I have ever heard.
You guys should also check out the songs they released before the first album. Jaws is such a masterpiece of a track and their second EP is a banger.

Make sure you also check out the EPs that came out before Sundowning. I know you already did When the Bough Breaks, but there are some other gems in there. Jaws, Calcutta, Nazareth... The production is so much better now, but the raw talent was definitely there.
